Hello, amazing friends! Has anyone else experienced a cool-down this week? It’s crazy that just a week ago it was sweltering here. That makes it so much easier for me to share my project today! I’m joining the Fall Seasonal Simplicity Tour, hosted by my lovely friend, Krista of The Happy Housie. My friends are sharing lots of DIY Fall inspiration as well so be sure to look for their projects at the bottom!
You may remember last year I joined this talented bunch with my fabric pumpkins:
I wasn’t quite ready for full-blown Fall decor so choosing a Fall project that used not-so-Fall fabrics worked out great. See how easy they are to make HERE!
Guess what? I’m still not quite ready for Fall!
But I do like to dress up my kitchen island with something seasonal, so I set out to do just that.
Those of you who are regular followers of mine know that I am working through another haul of things that have been taking up space in my storage room for way too long:
I decided to choose one of these items to create my island centerpiece.
And I knew this little cutie would be the perfect candidate:
This was marked down to 99¢ at the thrift store.
Here’s how I used it as a base for my new Fall centerpiece:
Does it look like Fall to you? Of course I painted the basket because I paint just about everything!
Today I’m going to share how easily this came together!
I started by giving my basket two coats of Dixie Belle’s Fluff, painted with a brush and sealed with Clear Coat in Satin that I applied with a sponge.
When I was looking for inspiration for my arrangement, I dropped by Michaels to see if anything jumped out at me. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Right away I liked these pretty blue stems that I found with their Fall blooms:
That was all I needed to get started…here’s everything I used (minus the mini pumpkins):
1. Thrift store basket, painted in Fluff
2. Floral foam
3. Greenery stems from Michaels’ Fall florals (3 stems)
4. Blue floral stems from Michaels’ Fall Florals (6 stems)
5. White sunflowers from Walmart (1 bunch)
6. Wire cutters
I started by placing the foam brick in the center of my basket. This is styrofoam floral foam that I had leftover from making the flowers for my bother’s wedding arch:
It’s sturdier than a traditional foam brick, but either is fine. I chose not to glue it in place so I could reuse my basket later if I like.
I started with the greenery stems by cutting them down to a more appropriate length:
Then I stuck them in the foam until I had a nice base of greenery for my arrangement:
Next, I cut the blue floral stems and started adding those also…
Until I had a look I liked:
The white sunflowers were a Walmart find and were a great deal at only $3 per bunch! I cut those…
And added them as well:
I thought I was done, but then I remembered these mini pumpkins I had that I had painted a few years back:
They got spray painted back then in Rustoleum’s Heirloom White, followed by a spritz of Stone spray for some added texture. It worked great!
I used a few of the excess stems that I snipped off the others to add to the bottoms of these:
Then I added them to my new arrangement as well.
And that was that!
I like the blue for a change!
The little sweater pumpkins are made from sweater sleeves…
I originally shared them HERE.

Christy, the colors are so soothing; the blue is perfect. I just gotta make some of the cloth pumpkins (since I’ve been hoarding fabric a year to make them) and maybe I’ll be ready for Fall when it shows up. XOXO

Very nice arrangement— I love the blue flowers as well. It is such a nice change from the usual fall colours of oranges and rust tones but still has the subdued tone of autumn. Great idea Christy.
Christy says
Thank you, Dorothy! I agree…the blue is a fun change! XOXO

Debbie in TX says
Wow, you are a master florist for certain! I would have looked at those individual flowers and thought they never would have looked good together, but they surely do. And I love, love the blue and the addition of the pumpkins. Now the floral arrangements on that arch for your brother’s wedding definitely look professional. You truly have a talent for this. Love it!
Christy says
Wow thank you, Debbie!! I really appreciate that! My new sister-in-law had this vision for their arch and I am so glad she loved the result! XOXO

I’ve been reading your posts for a long time and really enjoy all your projects. This arrangement looks so so good and you make it look so do-able I think I may give it a try.
I am really curious about that round box with a lid in your to-do photo, that looks like an antique cheese box…..unless it’s hardboard then probably a hatbox? Very cool.
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! You have been following along with me for a very long time and I appreciate you so much! You could definitely make this arrangement. I believe that box is a replica of an older antique piece. It’s been holding toys for the last several years…time for some TLC! Have a great weekend! XOXO

I loved the basket the dark color, but since I love white decor (been decorating with white for 19 yrs-when I started buying antique furniture painted white) the basket is gorgeous now. Your arrangement is one of the best I’ve seen.
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Karey! Nothing beats white! XOXO
Jo-Anna says

Marie says
Christy, you always do such a lovely job with your floral arrangements. This is so pretty and the pops of blue work so well with your home. The florals on your brother’s wedding arch are gorgeous too. Did he get married in your back yard?
Christy says
Aww thanks so much, Marie! Yes…my brother and his new bride got married in our back yard…it was just perfect! XOXO
Krista says
I love using non-traditional colours for the holidays! The blue, the sunflowers, the pumpkins, and that basket came together nicely. Happy Fall!
