Hello lovelies!! Welcome back! Today, I’m taking a short break from thrifty makeovers to share a new way to display that Christmas Village that always takes up so much space!
I absolutely love putting together our little village every year!
I started with this David Winters cottage my mom gifted me in my twenties:
Then after the holidays one year, I found several Christmas village pieces on the clearance and my obsession began!
I used to only have enough to display on our mantel, but then I kept collecting…and collecting.
I searched eBay, found a couple at thrift stores, and also acquired several from yard sales!
Pretty soon I was filling two four foot tables:
(That’s a photo from 2017.)
This has worked for many years, but finding an empty wall in our new house to display two four foot tables is getting harder! I hate to have to move what lives on this wall in my office to display it all, and the other locations we’ve tried haven’t been ideal.
A new way to display that Christmas village
This year, I was determined to find a new solution! I was actually searching for shelving units to use solely for displaying our village.
Here’s what normally lives along that wall in my office:
You can see the original makeover of this dresser HERE.
This dresser holds many of my staging props. Besides being my home office, this room also functions as my workout space. (I really did not want to have to move everything again.)
So one day as I was sitting at my desk, which is just to the left, I got to looking a little closer at that dresser I use for storage.
What if I could turn it into shelving to house my village??
So I took the drawers out to inspect a bit further…
Luckily, there was thin plywood beneath each drawer. I took a quick measurement to see if the shelves were tall enough to house my houses and they were just the right height!
All I needed to do was paint the inside white to make it the perfect backdrop!
So the next day, that’s exactly what I did, using Silk mineral paint in Saltwater since it doesn’t require a topcoat:
I just gave it one coat, and that was it.
The only thing left to do was drill a hole at the back of each shelf for the cords…
I had it all prepped when Jack came home from college for Thanksgiving break, and we spent the last day unwrapping it and putting the village together!
When he was younger, I would let him stay up late into the wee hours to help me build it, and it has become one of our favorite Christmas traditions!
Setting up our Christmas Village
Here’s a video of it coming together and a close-up up tour of the after as well:
If you have trouble viewing, you can see it on my YouTube channel HERE!
The After
And here is how it looks all set up:
I love that I didn’t have to move this large piece, I could keep my weights where they were, and I didn’t have to relocate my side table in the corner either.
I did have to find a place to house all the drawers that came out of this piece, but that was much easier!
You could remove the drawer slides also, but as you can see, I just painted those as well…
The space between each shelf was just right! I needed about 9″ clearance for most houses…
The few that were a tad taller went on the top shelf that had a bit more space…
The church was the only piece that didn’t fit inside, so I set it up on top!
If you don’t have enough pieces to fill a whole dresser, only remove enough drawers for what you have.
I shared close-ups of all the houses in the video above, but here are just a few photos.
This is a new piece I found at Walmart this year:
I had a fantastic toy store, but we placed it on the kitchen table as we were unpacking last year, and Lyla got ahold of the cord somehow. It crashed to the floor, breaking it into several pieces. I haven’t found one I like better yet, but I thought this was cute!
I’ve found a few of my pieces on eBay, like this gas station:
This was another eBay find. It’s an older piece, but I really liked it for some reason…
I also found this Fire and Police station on eBay several years ago:
This pretty one was part of a set of five pieces that were still new in the box that I picked up at a yard sale for only $20!
The LED lights shimmer and sparkle which you can see in the video above. The toy shop was part of that set, and it had a rotating Christmas tree on it. It came with a church also which no longer works and another piece that is also on that top row.
This one in the background was a yard sale find…
This was one I found at the thrift store the last time I went thrifting with Nancy!
I will say that my previous set up made for beautiful pictures with all the wonderful natural light and my stone wall as a backdrop:
While the dresser may not be as condusive to light bright photos, it is so much more enjoyable in person!
I love how contained everything is now, and everything gets to be up front!
Miss Lyla agrees!
And at night, it absolutely glows!
This is my favorite!
This was the perfect solution for displaying our Christmas village this year!
You can see more of our Christmas Village tradition and more photos in this post HERE.
And here’s a fun thrifty holiday makeover to tide you over:
See what I did with this cabinet door HERE!
I’ll be back on Tuesday sharing what I did with this mirror from my Free-to-me haul:
See ya then!
Update: This mirror had some challenges, but it came out a winner… see it here now!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!
Mary Kaiser says
Wow, that is AMAZING!! I LOVE it!!! I think it is better in the dresser than on the tables! It all looks so cozy in the dresser! You and your creativity never cease to amaze me! WOW!! Makes me want to start collecting them, my husband would be so thrilled if I did, NOT-LOL! I love this display!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary!! I love it in the dresser too! I’m so glad it worked out! And ha ha…wouldn’t he just love that?? Have a fantastic day! XOXO
K says
I agree…genius! Better than the table!
Christy says
Thank you, K! XOXO
Elizabeth says
What a clever and interesting way to display all your houses. After Christmas, could you just put the doors back on and close it up so you never have to put the houses away again??!! 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Elizabeth! I was so thrilled when it actually worked out so nicely! It is actually a dresser that holds drawers, so unfortunately I will have to take it all down to put the drawers back in, but building is half the fun so I don’t mind! XOXO
Christina says
What a wonderful, creative way to display the Christmas Village, I love it! I love that Lyla really likes it too. 🙂
Fun cabinet door makeover!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Christina! Lyla is a fan ha ha! XOXO
Elizabeth K Downes says
Merry Christmas ! Wow, that young man of yours sure does work quickly
LOL! O love your little village and enjoy seeing it every year. I still have a nativity scene that I have had for as long as I can remember. My father would insist that the baby Jesus could not make an appearance until late on Christmas Eve…he would arrive while we were at midnight mass! Until then, He stayed in a drawer. ;0) I am 70 now, and I remember helping my mother or my sister put it up when I was a little thing. It brings back so many memories. We didn’t do much for Christmas in those days as we didn’t have a lot of family, or a lot of money, but I find myself thinking back to how many times I have wrapped and unwrapped those figures. Time goes by so quickly. Enjoy your family and your holiday and as always, thanks for sharing. Liz
Christy says
Thank you, Liz! Jack is super fast, right? Ha ha! Those are special memories for sure. I hope Jack keeps our tradition going with his children. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season as well! XOXO
Courtney says
You continue to inspire me! I inherited my 101 year old Nana’s village (nana was 101, not the village 😉) when she passed away this March. I have nowhere to put it but I DO have a wall that needs a beautifully painted dresser (fluff chalk paint, of course) to live there. Thank you! Amazing, once again!
Christy says
Aww yay! I was hoping this idea might help someone else to enjoy their own Christmas village, and it sounds like you have a very special one!! Enjoy! XOXO
Christine says
Genius!
Christy says
Thank you, Christine! XOXO
Karen says
Kristy, I absolutely love your village! It is so well laid out in the cabinet and you get to enjoy it from your office! It makes me want to start collecting as well! Beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Karen! It has been in two other places the last two years, so I am so happy to have it back in here where I can enjoy it so much more! XOXO
Denise says
I don’t know what to say! I just love it!! You did find the perfect solution and everything looks so warm and cozy. Your night time shot is amazing. Great job. Please enjoy your Christmas. May it be a happy and healthy one for you and your family!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful solution and beautiful pictures!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Denise! I am so thrilled it actually worked! Wishing you a wonderful holiday season as well! XOXO
Janice Holt says
What a great idea to display your village. They look so pretty and so glad Jack was there to help you because I remembered it was one of your holiday things you done together.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! I am so glad we were able to set it up together again this year! XOXO
Nancy Sharp says
I love the new place for your village collection. I had a large collection for many years. It was a lot of work to set up. This year I am cutting decorations way back. I’m 75 and not in the greatest health.😝 I had always told my granddaughter that when she got married she could have it all. She got married but has no room. Well, her sentimental mom who was upset I wouldn’t put it out this year, took it.😄 It looks beautiful on her buffet that has an extra shelf above. Who knows if my granddaughter will ever get it now?😂 But I’m showing my granddaughter the picture of your great idea.
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! It sounds like your daughter came up with the perfect solution for displaying your set, and I bet she’ll keep it now too ha ha! It’s nice that she wanted to continue the tradition! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
Your wonderful village may have gotten me in the Christmas spirit! I’ve been in a funk lately between working on crafts for my booths and setting up my booths (and my husband in the hospital). I love all the details in the little village right down to the sleds propped on the porch! Blessings to you and your family during this special time of the year. XOXO
Christy says
Oh good! I’m so glad to hear that! I don’t do too much holiday business where I’m located, so I don’t usually add much in the way of holiday items. I can imagine that has kept you very busy! Wishing good health for your hubby, and now take some time for you! XOXO
Cecilia says
What a great solution! It not only contains it but it just looks good. The tables were a nice way to display them but this! Wow. Great solution!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! I am so much happier with this set up! XOXO
Lori says
Very nice! A fellow at work has a village that is about 4′ deep and at least 20′ long. It’s huge and dominates the living room when it’s set up. Quite a site to see.
Christy says
Thanks, Lori! Wow..sounds like your coworker has an amazing set up!! XOXO
Molly says
YOU ARE BRILLIANT, CHRISTY!!!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Molly!! XOXO
Cara says
This my friend is absolutely the best way to display your village. I love it. I’ve always wanted to collect these homes, but never had the perfect solution to display, and you have found it! It is quite lovely. I can’t stop looking at it. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us all. I always find such inspiration from you!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, my friend! I get so much joy out of my Christmas village every year, but it just takes up so much space. I am so thrilled that this worked out so well! XOXO
Patti says
Ok! This is brilliant and beautiful! Bravo for thinking outside the dresser! 😁
Christy says
Ha ha thank you, Patti!! XOXO

Brilliant idea and beautiful result! You have inspired me to get my Dickens village out which hasn’t seen Christmas in 10+ years!
Christy says
YAY!! I love that so much!! Enjoy!! XOXO
roberta says
Beautiful! Are they all David Austin or do you mix and match.
Christy says
Thank you, Roberta! Mine are all different makers. I just buy what I find that I like that is reasonably priced! XOXO
Carolyn says
GENIUS!!! Your creativity blows me away!
How sweet you and Jack continue this tradition. ❤️
He’s getting awfully tall, Mom!
You all have a blessed Christmas!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, my friend! I love that he still wants to build it with me…I feel like those days are numbered for sure! Merry Christmas! XOXO
Carolyn says
Thanks, Christy!! I think of you every year I pull my cute Christmas skis out of storage!
XOXO … right back at ya!! ; )
Christy says
Aww I love it!! Mwah!! 😀
Denise Cox says
It’s lovely!! And how clever!!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Denise! I’m so glad it worked! XOXO
Debbie in TX says
Well this is very cool, such an unexpected display case! It’s nice to be able to see the details of each piece up front, and the light really bounces around inside the dresser to add some extra glow. That cute pic of Lyla on the floor put a huge smile on my face : ) Lovely display. Happy Holidays to you and your family, my sweet friend!
Christy says
Thank you, Debbie!! I couldn’t be happier that this actually worked out as well as it did! And that Lyla is a ham lol! Enjoy the holiday season, my friend!! XOXO
MrsSW says
I was wondering if Jack was going to be able to help you with the C’mas houses this year, Christy. I’m happy for you that he did.
Every time I read about you and Jack assembling your village I am reminded of a happy family tradition from my childhood.
The year I was 12 Mother started collecting Nativity pieces from Woolworth’s, adding to it each year. We had a huge built-in corner cabinet and at C’mas she pushed the dishes back and draping fabric to cover them to make a display area. Like Jack, one of my younger brothers loved to help arrange the pieces and by the time he moved away it had every imaginable item in the display, taking up three staggered shelves about 5′ wide.
When Mother died and Danny came home for her funeral I sent the box with the collection, camels, sheep, chickens, drape and all, home with him. I’m sure he shared it with his children while they were growing up.
My tradition is my tree – covered in the same ornaments each year including ornaments from my parent’s first tree when I was a baby (I’m 77), my grandmother’s pincushion, things my children and my brothers made, vacation mementos, etc. It’s my memory tree – grown to 9′ and packed full of wonderful recollections. Of course I had one or two (ahem) Victorian-ish ornaments each year.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season. I know you’ll enjoy having everyone together.
Sheila
Christy says
Yes! I too was so happy Jack still wanted to build the village with me! I know it won’t last forever. It’s nice to have those special memories, and I’m sure your brother loved getting that set. Unpacking your ornaments each year must be a wonderful trip down memory lane! Enjoy the season, my friend! XOXO
Kim says
My jaw just dropped…that is pure genius! I have a collection of Snow Villages that have been boxed up because I had nowhere to display them in my current house. This is totally do-able! Major wow!
Christy says
Oh yay! I love that reaction, Kim! Thank you! Glad I could offer another way to display your set! XOXO
Kim says
Sounds like there are going to be villages popping up all over because of your creative idea! I had seriously been thinking of selling mine because I had not not taken them out of storage for years and I thought maybe someone else could enjoy them. My
Mom and Grama started gifting them to me in my 20’s. I’m 59 and they have both passed away so I really have wanted to hold onto them. Glad I saw this first!
Christy says
Oh wow…what treasures they really are now! I completely understand your thought of passing them on to someone because they really do take up so much space! I am SO thrilled this actually worked, and hopefully you will be able to enjoy yours now too!! XOXO
Heidy says
Kristy,
I look forward to seeing your Christmas village every year…and I LOVE it displayed this way. My favorites are the Grace Church for sure, Santa in the outhouse…lol…so cute, cutest little squirrels playing, The Padded Paw, the moose eating snowman nose and Green’s Garden….love!!! It’s such a fantastic idea to display like this, and so beautifully arranged. It’s captivating….I watched the video twice…lol. I have a very small collection and all pieces are white. It makes me want to keep collecting after seeing yours. So much fun…Merry Christmas to you and your family. Stay safe and Happy New Year too!
Heidy
Christy says
Thank you, Heidy! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video…I could just stand and stare at for ages…and I do ha ha! Merry Christmas! XOXO
Mary Ellen says
Wow! I think this is the best idea for a Christmas Village display I’ve ever seen. In addition to being a space saver, it would allow for separate little vignettes! I have a Department 56 village that got started many years ago. My brother gifted me the first piece, which was an Irish Pub from their Christmas in the City series. So I bought a few more pieces over the next couple of years in the same theme. I do love the pieces i have, but I was always partial to their New England Village. I resisted buying any of the New England pieces because I didn’t think they’d mix very well with what I had. When I saw your display I thought, oh my gosh! That would work! Because of the little separations the dresser provides, I think each one could stand alone. I have to see if the dresser in my guest room would accommodate my buildings, but I’m excited to try it. Thank you, Christy!! God bless and Merry Christmas!!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Mary Ellen! Yes…this would be a great way to display your pieces in vignettes so you could display them all for sure! Have fun and Merry Christmas! XOXO
Sharlotte says
This looks so good! Makes me want to get mine out and use them!
Christy says
Thank you, Sharlotte! Go for it!! XOXO
Sharon L Austin says
Ingenious! It looks great; I stopped putting my village out because it’s so much work. This might inspire me to use the dresser our tv sits above. LOL
Christy says
Thank you, Sharon! Yes, this was such a good way to display mine without giving up any space! XOXO
Leticia Beam says
Simply fantastic! I enjoyed the post.. Happy holidays to you!
Christy says
Thank you, Leticia! Enjoy the season too, my friend! XOXO
Addie says
I LOVE this!!!! It is absolutely gorgeous with the night time lights on.
Ya know what you can do? Since you are always out there finding great pieces of furniture….take this one after Christmas, put it on a dolly, put a drop cloth or heavy type plastic over it and put it in the garage in a corner. Then get a new piece of furniture for the office. You will be ready to go!!! A lot less work and all contained. A friend of mine does that for her heavily decorated tree….she just wheels it in. Harbor Freight has very reasonable dollies. You can decorate that too so it can be all ready to go… no lifting off and on. Wheel it in …wheel it out!!! The end to opening and putting away all those boxes and styrofoam!!!
There is always so much to do!!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Addie! I’m so glad you love it! While it would be convenient to store it away as is, I really truly enjoy the assembly part, especially when I get to do it with Jack! Now if I could do that with our tree…I’d be down ha ha! XOXO
Addie says
You and Jack could wheel it in!!!….am I being a Scrooge?
Assembly is aways fun…putting away…not so much.
Christy says
Ha ha…you’re right about the packing up part…no fun! Have a fantastic weekend!! XOXO
Addie says
Oh!!!! I forgot to mention……of course you were drawn to the “gas station” one……trying to remember the good old gas prices!!!….lololol
Christy says
Ha ha right??? 😀
Jan says
What a great idea! I have been asking my husband for years to build something to display my village. I have photos saved on pinterest to give him ideas. So far…nothing. LOL I use ladders to display mine, as well as a set of shelves in my living room.
Christy says
Thank you, Jan! That’s exactly what I was planning to do…build something that was more vertical so it would take up less space. Then I started looking at shelving options. Then one day, an idea sparked and I’m so thrilled it actually worked out! I do love the ladder idea too! XOXO
Anita E says
It’s soo beautiful! I never would have thought of that! Great for people with smaller houses like me. How do you manage the fake snow? Does it make a mess or what? I love it , though! Merry Christmas!
Christy says
Thank you, Anita! The snow isn’t really an issue unless Lyla goes sticking her nose it, but it vacuums up super easily. Merry Christmas to you as well! XOXO
Marian says
Happy Holidays, Christy,
It is true. You are brilliant! That is the perfect place to showcase your wonderfully delightful village. I also want to look in all of the windows and talk to the home folk. You have done an amazing job of collecting. I hope you and your lovely family have a bright and happy Christmas, and may the new year be healthy and prosperous.
Christy says
Happy Holidays, Marian! Thank you so much! I love to imagine what’s going on in the village and can just stand there looking at it for forever! So glad this idea worked out. Enjoy the season! XOXO
Sharon Caulineau says
What a beautiful way to display your wonderful collection.
Christmas Blessings, Sharon
Christy says
Thank you so much, Sharon! Merry Christmas! XOXO
Kim says
I love it!!!! It looks fantastic! It was fine on the tables but I love it so much more like this. Like others said, it looks so warm and cozy like it was made for your houses.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Kim! I too prefer this so much more and it is so nicely contained for sure! XOXO
Lynda says
I love this idea! I put my village out this year for the first time in a while. I wasn’t able to use very piece because I don’t have the space. This is awesome! So pretty!
Christy says
Thank you, Lynda! It is a challenge to find enough space to display them. This worked out really nicely! XOXO
Jean C Smith says
Christy,
Look what you did with the door. I also LOVE ALL the VILLAGES!!!!! We collected villages back in the 80’s. I’ve since given them to Goodwill but kept a few. I love the cabinet makeover with the villages. The Church is Beautiful; simply Beautiful. The top of the cabinet is exactly where it belongs. I love the trees around it and the cute sign showing the name of the church. I have enjoyed your emails this year and are looking forward to seeing what you bring to us in the coming new year. You are so talented and through with all your projects and I just love how you makeover furniture. You have such a Kind and Sweet Spirit about you Christy and it does not go unnoticed!!! Merry Christmas!!!!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Jean! I truly appreciate your very kind words! And yes, how fitting that the church had to go on top, right? I love it up there also! Thank you so much for following along with me…I’m excited for a brand new year!! XOXO
Carroll Xavier says
Clever girl! Now that’s resourceful…and makes for a gorgeous display. It reminds me of an old fashioned toy shop window. Love it!
Christy says
Thank you, Carroll! Yes…that is a great way to describe it! XOXO
Liberty says
What an amazingly lovely idea! I’ve pinned it!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Liberty! XOXO
Deborah says
What a great way to display your village! Mine hasn’t come out of the attic in several years. You have inspired me to bring the pieces down this year and be on the lookout for a dresser. Merry Christmas!
Christy says
Thank you, Deborah! I love that you are feeling inspired to display yours again! Good luck in your search and Merry Christmas to you as well! XOXO
Deborah says
My village fits perfectly in a vintage (roadside snag, much to the chagrin of my hubby) hutch! Thank you for the inspiration!
Christy says
That’s awesome! I love that so much and even better that it was free!! Thank you for sharing and enjoy your village! XOXO
Karen says
Such a clever and creative solution that is also beautiful. It must be wonderful to sit at the end of the day and watch it “glow ” You have really showcased your village! Love the vintage gas station, Five & Dime store, and fire station. The church ended up in the perfect spot, after all, “it is the reason for the season!” How many pieces do you have now? You’ve created a family heirloom, as well as a family tradition! So special.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Karen! I’ve had it in our living space the past two years and I really missed having it in my office! I spend a lot of time in here, so I really get to enjoy it again. I have 16 houses plus the little toy shop addition, a Christmas tree lot, and an ice rink. It holds quite a bit! And yes, the church is definitely where it should be! Enjoy the season! XOXO
September Whisenant says
I also used tables for years to display my Dept. 56 Snow Village pieces until I got a china cabinet. Now I use it for my Christmas display. Luckily all my parent’s china that I normally have in the china cabinet fits in the cabinet underneath the shelves. The bottom cabinet has solid wood doors while the shelving part has glass doors so the china is hidden and my Snow Village is the star of the show. I’ll have to admit tho, it was very clever of you to figure out you could use a dresser in the same way and it looks fabulous!
Christy says
Thank you, Stephanie! I have wanted to use my china cabinet for forever, but I didn’t want to drill holes for the cords as mine does not have doors and you would see the holes after. I bet your display is absolutely beautiful in yours! XOXO
Marietta Walker says
I love this idea! It solves so many problems we’ve all had wehn it comes to our Christmas Villages. Thank you for putting visions of chnges in my head. I am sure my husband thanks you too. He loves how I move all the furniture around because once I put this or that in the room, then something else did not look right, so I had to move item one and item two where Item three and item four were, but then I had to figure out where to put those…
Yes, I will be sure to give you credit for my next great organizational change! LOL
Christy says
Thank you, Marietta! And ha ha…apologies to your hubby in advance!! 😀 XOXO
Jack says
Amazing, that brilliant idea
Christy says
Thank you, Jack! XO
ROBIN GREEN says
WHAT GREAT IDEA. LOVE IT. I HAVE TWO TALL BOOKCASES I GOT FROM TARGET AND DID THE SAME THING CUT THE HOLE IN THE BACK. THE VILLAGE TRULY LOOKS LIKE VILLAGE SET UP THAT WAY. JUST FLOWS TO THE NEXT SCENE. LOVE YOU TASTE AND DECORATING STYLE. BY THE WAY SOME HOW IF HAVE FALLEN OFF THE EMAILS I KEEP SUBSCRIBING BUY I’M HAVEN’T GOTTEN ONE SINCE YOU SWITCHED OVER. COULD YOU PLEASE GET ME BACK ON THE LIST? I HAVE AN OLD EMAIL AND THAT’S HOW I FIND YOU. I LOVE CHRISTMAS VILLAGES.
Christy says
Thanks, Robin! I was looking into something similar to what you do when I had the idea to try my dresser…I bet your display looks beautiful!! As for the emails, I am showing that you received and opened the first one that was sent by my new email carrier on 10/26. That was the estate sale frames post. It is showing that it “bounced” after that which means your address is no longer deliverable? Do you have a new address you’d like me to add? I’d be happy to! If you respond to this email, it will be a private conversation and will not be posted on the site, so now worries of your email address getting out. XOXO
Ashley Walter says
I love the Christmas Village. What a great idea! My son and I started collection a few years ago. He always looks forward to setting up the village. What did you use for the snow?
Christy says
Thank you, Ashley! It is such a wonderful tradition to do with your kids if they are into it! I used Buffalo snow flurries from Michaels. This one looks totally legit. I believe this is it if they don’t have it in store:https://www.michaels.com/buffalo-snow-extra-fine-flurries/10193327.html XOXO
Ashley says
Thank you so much Christy!
Christy says
You’re welcome! 💕
Patty says
Kristy, you are truly the most creative person that I know! Your village looks perfect in this dresser – I especially love the lighted night time – just lovely. So special to have Jack home and still helping you setup – he looks so grown-up! 🙂 Seeing Lyla just makes my day!
Christy says
Aww I appreciate that, Patty, thank you! I’m so happy this idea actually worked out so well, and it was really fun to build it with Jack once again. He is really growing up! And that Lyla is a ham lol! Enjoy the season! XOXO
Paula@SweetPea says
You are so clever, Christy! I love this idea so much.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Paula! I was so tickled when it actually worked! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
OH christy, it is so beautiful. I love how you set your village up this year. I read above that you dont do much of Christmas in your booth. Why is that? I have been so busy trying to keep my booth decorated and I think I’m going to give up my booth. It is just too much work for me. Talk me out of it. Haha I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas. This is our first without my daughter. It has been very rough.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Cheryl! I can only imagine how difficult this season must be without your daughter. Only time will help to heal that loss, I’m sure. It’s probably a good thing that you’ve had your booth to keep your mind busy! I don’t do much in the way of Christmas items because the season is so short, and you really have to have your Christmas items ready to go and in store before Thanksgiving. I have sat on many a Christmas item after the holidays, so I just don’t stress about it now. It probably has a lot to do with my location too though since I am in an antique mall which is not where most people do their Christmas shopping. I do generally have a good January-March season though, so I work towards being well stocked with all-season things for that time. People like to visit the antique mall for something to do when it’s cold outside. A big hug to you from me, my friend! XOXO
Phyllis says
This is brilliant and so versatile. My husband loves the Christmas village but we haven’t added to the collection because of lack of space for display. I will be looking for a chest of drawers for his village. Thank you.
Christy says
Thank you, Phyllis! It has worked out so well! Good luck in your search! XOXO
Cheryl says
What a genius way to display! Very beautiful!!
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! XOXO
Becky says
This is the prettiest, most practical Christmas display I’ve ever seen! You’re a genius! And it is LOVELY!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, my friend! It has worked out amazingly well!! XOXO
Shelley says
What a spectacular way to display your Christmas village. It is beautiful!
I have a comment, or maybe it is a question 🙂 At night, when there is lighting in the display cabinet, does that come solely from the pieces in the village that have their own lighting? It seems to me that it would be easy to take Velcro to attach some under cabinet lighting to your shelves if you wanted to add more illumination to the dark areas. I have a few Christmas village pieces, but none of them have their own lighting, so I think if I were to try to “borrow” your idea, I would need to fashion some kind of additional lighting.
Wondered if you had done anything like this.
Again, what a great idea. It’s perfect!

Thank you, Shelley! Great question! Most of my houses do light up, but when I moved my village into this dresser, I did have a few dark spots here and there. I went online and found these mini spotlights from Lemax at Michaels: https://www.michaels.com/lemax-round-spot-light-set/10674965.html
that worked perfectly to illuminate those dark areas! They are battery operated, but you can buy this A/C adapter: https://www.michaels.com/lemax-white-3output-power-adapter-4.5v/10674971.html that will connect to up to three Lemax battery-operated items so you don’t have to worry about turning on all the battery-operated things…you can just plug them into one power strip. You may be able to find those at your local Michaels, but mine was out of them. I hope that helps! XOXO

This is insanely clever! What a lovely idea & a lovely village. Is that wallpaper on the wall or airstone? I’m loving that wall. Details, please.
Merry Christmas! 🎄
