Is there anything better than finding a brand new purpose for something old and forgotten? Amazing friends, today I’m sharing another 15 thrifty items that I have repurposed in some way.
I say another because I have shared several similar round ups in the past, all new and different! I will link to them at the bottom.
But first, we got Jack moved into his apartment this weekend! Woohoo, or as UVA students say, Wahoowa!
Remember his dorm last year? It started like this:
And the after:
So organized. So together. So perfect. That was me helping to organize every last detail before leaving him on his own.
THis year
Here is his room this year…the before:
And after ha ha:
He insisted that we leave it for him to organize, and although that made me a bit crazy, I’ve got to let him go at some point, right?
Luckily, this year he has a dorm apartment instead of just a room with a communal bathroom, so this apartment has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a living/dining room combo:
That’s my sister and her 16 year old who helped us move Jack in. He’s on the fourth floor, so we really appreciated the extra help carrying everything!
It also has a tiny kitchen:
And Jack has grown a beard…remember when he was 12 helping me paint furniture??
The kitchen is what we mostly had to shop for as he did not want to eat dining hall food again this year. He’s planning to cook and needed all the kitchen basics. Hopefully he’ll learn a lot having to take care of all of his own meals this year.
And, I didn’t cry at all this time! Yay!
I started on a brand new makeover to share with y’all on Thursday, but today, I’ve gathered some fun repurposed items for you to enjoy!
15 Ordinary Items Repurposed
1
The first item on the list that I repurposed are these thrift store sweaters:
Remember I turned them into the cutest NO SEW sweater pumpkins ever?

Yes! I even made a video that you can see here:
If you have trouble viewing, find it on YouTube HERE.
Now is the perfect time to go in search of sweaters for your pumpkins!

Next on the list are these cabinet doors that my dad had left over from cabinets he used to build:
I was able to create for new decor pieces from these doors…two signs and two hanging organizers:

3
Up next is this coaster set I picked up for next to nothing at the thrift store:
I decided to remove the coasters and use the holder for my business cards. It was the perfect size!

This next item is something that is abundant at thrift stores…magazine racks!
I turned this one into a pretty centerpiece by adding flowers:

At number five is this headboard and footboard I picked up for $10 at a yard sale:
I turned them both into hanging storage pieces. The headboard became this fun piece:
And the footboard became something a bit more simple:

Up next in this repurposed round up is this chair that my hubby put his foot through a couple of years ago:
Instead of repairing the seat and keeping it as a chair, I decided to cut it up for parts.
Some of them became this shelf:

7
How about another repurposed cabinet door? This one came out of our kitchen when we redid it:
I turned it into another shelf:

This next repurpose is one of four pictures I shared in one post:
This one that I added the remnants of a transfer to was my favorite of the bunch.
It became a chalkboard:
Thrift Store Frames Repurposed
9
This next one only cost me a dollar!
This started out as a harp that holds a mirror on top of a dresser. I added a shelf and some embellishments to give it a whole new purpose:

10
This $3 thrift store basket never knew it had so much potential:
I was able to cut it in two and create a Summer basket wreath for our front door:

AND I was able to use the other half as a “vase” for my hydrangeas:
$3 Thrift Store Basket and Lid Repurposed
I also repurposed the lid of the basket which you can see at the link above!

I also have a couple of recent repurposed projects I’m sharing in today’s round up, including these frames:
One of which I paired with this lamp:
To make this cute mini memo board:
The other frame was paired with a mini pineapple lamp I had to create another cute one:

I shared two more in this post. You can see the other two at the link above.

This is another recent share…how I repurposed this swivel mirror I had left over from a dresser makeover:
If you remember, I cut off the top and the bottom parts and turned them into shelves:
Lots of shelves in this group!
How to Repurpose an old Swivel Mirror
I still have the mirror and intend to redo that as well.

Up next is another headboard set I also picked up for $10 at a yard sale:
This one became a bench!

At number 14 is this hanging cabinet that also made it into my 21 White Painted Furniture Ideas post:
My sister was getting rid of this cabinet from her bathroom, and I snapped it up!
I flipped it upside down, added feet, and turned it into this petite floor cabinet:

And finally, I’ve hardly met a flatware box that didn’t come home with me. This one was $4 at the thrift store:
It was a bit beaten up but cleaned up beautifully:

Wahoowa, I love it! I can’t believe that cute baby face Jack has a beard!! It is amazing that he is starting his 2nd year of college! It is so nice that he is in a house this year and can cook for him self, way to go Jack!! I love seeing the replay of all things re purposed, and once again I remember all of them! Glad your back and that Jack is getting all settled!
Christy says
I know…a beard?? Yes, he has a much better set-up this year, thankfully! Thanks so much, Mary! XOXO

A beard. No tears. 2021 is a whole new world…. Lots of good vintage shopping here in Charlottesville, let me know if you need any suggestions 😘

You have been one busy girl. Jack has a nice apartment. You know I love looking at your posts whether new or not so new. I do have a request; you sent me the Christmas village houses you painted and my computer crashed so I lost the email; I was so careful to keep it in my saved emails. I am almost too embarrassed to ask you again but in your spare time (like you have any spare time), would you resend it to me. Thanks so much and look forward to Thursday.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! And I don’t mind at all, my friend! I’ll do that now! 🙂 XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
Congratulations on not crying! It is so difficult to let the babes go! I know he appreciates y’all helping him get moved. I like looking at the before & after pictures together. You have such beautiful pieces and I love how you cut up things and create shelves and stuff! Have a nice week!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Cecilia! It is hard to let them go for sure, but I know it has to be done. Having a 6th grader still at home definitely helps! Have a great week! XOXO
Christina says
Christy, I love Jack’s beard and new living arrangements! Yay!!!
My favorite in this group was also in the white group… the hanging cabinet to which you added feet. Love that piece.
I can’t wait to see what you have created with the sewing cabinet and stool. 🙂
Have a wonderful week!!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! I know… a beard?? He’s definitely full grown now ha ha! I love that cabinet too…so glad I didn’t let my sister toss it out! XOXO
Linda Young says
Love all your “makeovers” Just tried my sample jars of Silk and I love it. One question: To clean the brushes can you still use just soap and water? I did that but it didn’t seem to really clean the brushes. Thanks.
Christy says
Thank you, Linda! Silk is wonderful! I usually just use warm water, and I thought I was getting my brushes pretty clean. We just started selling a new brush cleaner that I have yet to try, but one of the Dixie Belle brand ambassadors, Brandy of Brushed by Brandy, demonstrated how fantastic it is in this video: https://youtu.be/MmbN8_ZNcuk. Now I want to reclean all my brushes! XOXO
Cecilia says
Aw, I remember moving my kids into their dorms (was it really 13&16 years ago?!?) good grief! Having a living area and kitchen is a huge plus!
Love seeing these makeovers again. Maybe this year I’ll actually finish the cabinet door sign I started long ago! Lol. Thanks for the inspiration.
😊Cecilia
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! Yes, having a kitchen is huge for him this year! Go pull out that sign and get to work lol! XOXO

What a difference a year makes! Jack is becoming more independent. I think it is great that young men like to do their thing when it comes to settling in to an apartment! I am sure it is a nice change from the last year! You have given him wings to fly and he is ready to take off! But not quite yet!!! Love the past posts and I do remember them all as well. I have to say, I still am amazed at the signs you made out of lamp bases! What a clever idea and so practical for many reasons! Thanks for sharing this post. I know you are so proud of Jack! Have a wonderful week.
Christy says
Oh a year makes so much difference! Jack is really becoming so independent, which is the goal right? It’s still nice when he calls for advice though! And yes, I am super proud for sure! The lamp signs are so fun and would make great gifts! See ya tomorrow! XOXO
Mary Ellen says
What a treat today! Fifteen for the price of one! LOL I would be hard-pressed to choose a favorite, but I think Number 13, the white bench from the bed would probably be it. LOVE that so much!! I always love your staging as much as seeing how you’ve given the pieces new life. I love that white fringed throw that you use sometimes. It’s on the bench. I don’t suppose it’s something I could find to purchase online? Thank you for all the inspiration!
Christy says
Oh yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed this post, Mary Ellen! That bench sure didn’t last long in my booth. The white fringed throw is part of a chenille blanket I found at a yard sale. The moths had gotten to it, so I trimmed it up to use for staging! XOXO
Constance Colvin says
Oh Christy! UVA is such a wonderful school. This might seem a little dated, but my first cousin Becky was the drum major of the UVA band in the seventies (-: Don’t know if they even have those anymore? Jack must really be an awesome kid! (-:
Christy says
Thank you, Connie…he is such a great kid, and I am so proud! I don’t know if they still have drum majors, but I would imagine so. It’s a small world! XOXO
Lauri Kunze says
Do I have any favorites? Are you kidding? I love everything you do! Not once have I thought to myself, hmm… not what I would have done. You are by far my favorite blogger ever, and there are some good ones out there. You’re the best!
Christy says
Oh my goodness, Lauri, you are the sweetest!! Thank you so much!! XOXO
Kim Petersen says
