Hello lovelies!! I have a quick makeover for y’all today! Can I tell you how excited I am to dive back into painting? Now that our kitchen is complete and our landscaping is done, AND the cooler weather is on the way. (I hope!)
Today I’m sharing the simple makeover of this high chair I picked up for $5 at the thrift store at the beginning of the Summer:
It was really dirty, almost like it had been stored in a barn or shed for about 50 years.
I just loved it though and had to bring it home with me.
One coat of my favorite blue, Sunken Pool by Behr, made into DIY chalk paint (Recipe HERE) gave it a fresh new look:
It also looked like it may have been in a fire?? Otherwise, I have no idea what this gook all over it was:
I sanded it lightly all over and most of it came off pretty easily. Older pieces like this distress so beautifully…
Like I said, I only gave this piece one coat of paint, then I sanded all over to distress. Luckily there were no bleed-through issues!
A simple paint job is all this chair needed since it has so many pretty details…
I especially love the details on the back…
I thought this would be so cute to use as a plant stand, or how about outside on a covered patio holding pretty white Fall mums??
I’ll be back on Thursday sharing what I did with this mirror I picked up for $6!
See y’all then! 🙂
UPDATE: Check out how this mirror turned out HERE now!

Oh that blue is just perfect – and great idea to turn it into a plant stand 🙂 And that mirror for $6? 😮 In Australia we’d pay at least $50 if we’re lucky!!! Looking forward to seeing what colour you paint it 😀

These are great chairs to put at the table for toddlers to use when they graduate from a regular highchair. We have something similar for the grandkids. 😉 My mom has had the same one since my son was born. 🙂 Love that it was such an easy makeover!
Christy says
Oh yes, this would be great for that! You know I love an easy makeover, my friend! XOXO

Hi!
Love this! I dodo have a question: Did you use any type of cleaner/degreaser or did you just sand it?
Thanks!
From another Christy 🙂
Christy says
Thanks, another Christy! 😀 Normally because I use chalk paint which does not require any sanding, I just use clorox wipes to clean a piece before painting. However because this had that gunk on it that needed to be sanded away, I sanded, but then just vacuumed away any dust with my shop vac. Then I wiped it down with a clean soft cloth before painting. I knew I was going to shabby this up a bit so I wasn’t too worried about it being super clean first. That’s the long answer lol! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
This is just adorable!! And you staged it so pretty, too. 🙂 xoxo
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy!! Staging is always the fun part…couldn’t bring myself to make it more Fall inspired lol! XOXO

Growing up, my mom always had an old highchair in the kitchen with a plant sitting on it.
Christy says
Oh funny…that is a great purpose for it! XO

I have a similar rescued “toddler chair” with beautiful rolled arms that I painted years ago, when my little girl was falling out of her booster seat on a regular basis. I put this at the kitchen table, and it was perfect for her! She’s now 8, and she still prefers it over a regular kitchen chair because she gets to sit higher. Your paint color is gorgeous! Did you seal this with anything after you painted it?
Christy says
Thank you, Kay! This is great for pulling up to the big table. I sealed it with Annie Sloan’s clear soft wax. 🙂
