Cabinet Makeover with a Secret Identity

If you read my Top 10 Project Wish List for 2013, you might remember number 10 on my list was to replace this table: This was my husband's table, and I'm on a mission to replace all of his furniture find a piece that would provide some storage, something my very open-concept house is sadly lacking. I am happy to announce that Wish List Project #10 can officially be crossed off the list! I found this cabinet at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago.  I paid a bit more for it than I … [Read more...]

How to Transfer Letters Old School Style

I love to create signs and add graphics to my furniture pieces.  Today I'm sharing with you how I do it. There are a lot of ways to add words/graphics to a project with all the awesome cutting machines and fancy stencils circulating out there.  When I want to add a little something extra to my pieces, I have to use what I have on hand which sadly, does not include awesome cutting machines or fancy stencils.  So,  I transfer them old school style. Transferring to Lighter Surfaces: Step … [Read more...]

Accidental Kitchen Organization

Really, organizing almost my entire kitchen was not the plan when I installed my new spice cabinet.  But one thing led to another and to another. You get the idea. I promised I would show you what I did with the rest of the spices plus all the awesome organization that followed. So here it is! I built and installed this really cool spice cabinet which I shared with you last time. (Can a spice cabinet be cool? Why not.) All of my spices unfortunately did not fit so the rest ended up … [Read more...]

Finally, a Solution to My Messy Spice Cabinet!

What started out as a plan to get my spices in order steamrolled into an entire day of kitchen organization. You see, my husband and I have our own spice cabinets. Sound crazy? Well, yes it is.  When we combined households we just kept them separate for some unknown reason. Something needed to seriously change! I couldn't take digging through these cabinets any longer: Hers:  His: Trying to find what I needed between these two messy cupboards was so frustrating.  The closest I … [Read more...]

The Cutest $5 Table

I found this little table at an estate sale this summer for five bucks.  I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it so it sat in my garage. I recently purchased a cabinet that I was thinking of painting a teal color.  The paint I'm interested in using is Annie Sloan chalk paint (ASCP) in Provence. If you don't know about the wonders of chalk paint yet (not to be confused with chalkboard paint), it is awesome because it adheres to just about any surface with NO sanding or priming … [Read more...]

Garage Sale Chair Makeover

This is the story of four neglected, filthy, rickety dining room chairs.  I don't know what possessed me to buy them except they were super cheap. Do you do that? Do you buy things sometimes just because they're a super good price? I read somewhere that if you wouldn't be willing to pay $100 for something, you shouldn't buy it because it means you don't love it enough. In other words, only purchase things that you love enough that you would pay good money for them (not that those … [Read more...]

Just in Time for Valentine’s Day

The awesome thing about being crafty is you can make gifts that cost very little. This works out great for me since I'm crafty(and cheap)! You may remember the "Bless this Barn" sign  I made out of my neighbor's old gate. It was heading for the trash and I saved it's life. Poor gate never saw it coming...the sign I made out of it was a Christmas gift for my husband's parents. They have horses and I thought this would be a perfect gift to hang at the entrance to their barn. You may also … [Read more...]

New Winter Wreath

I'd like to say that the ideas on my blog are all my own and I am a creative genius, but there are times when I'm inspired by the amazing work of others. Most of my projects are the product of  "I'm cheap"+"Hey I found this (insert any miscellaneous item here), what can I do with it?!" However in this case, I was inspired by this adorable wreath Karianne at Thistlewood Farms made. I always have a hard time with what to hang on my door after the Holidays, so I hang nothing.  When I saw … [Read more...]

Kids Say the Darndest Things

Even at 10 years old, my son still comes up with things that crack me up. The other night at dinner, we were talking about the upcoming Superbowl. If you don't follow football, its down to the 49ers and the Ravens.  Both teams'  head coaches are brothers. We were talking about how it would be harder to enjoy the win if it were against your brother.  After much consideration,  my beautiful, very smart son says. "Well, technically if they share a room, they can share the trophy!"  He was so … [Read more...]

10 Tips to a Better Closet

When I was laying out the plan for my Master Closet Makeover and looking to create a new closet space for my husband, I did a lot of homework.  That's the fun kind where you get to dream about all the possibilities of a new space by looking through tons of pictures.  I made notes of what I liked about some of the closets that I saw so I could incorporate those ideas into my own. After completing both new spaces, I thought it might be helpful to share what I learned along the way as well my … [Read more...]
