Hello sweet friends! This week I’m heading out of town for a conference so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to take a visit to my booth! For those of you that may not know, I have a booth space at the Virginia Beach Antique Mall here in Virginia Beach where I sell most of the pieces I make over.
I like to share my booth space by talking about what pieces, mostly the larger ones, have come and gone since the last time we visited.
When I last shared it back in April, business had been pretty slow. I hadn’t been as consistent last year at keeping my booth stocked and fresh.
I started redoing entire hauls piece by piece this year, and not only has it kept me on track, but my booth has benefited as well as I have been much more consistent at keeping it fresh and new, and thankfully, I had a fantastic Summer season!
It looked like this the last time we visited:
That quilt tray on the coffee table is one of my favorites and sold right away.
In came the estate sale shelving unit to the left:
I became a Dixie Belle retailer in May and started selling their products both in my Etsy shop online and here in my booth. I made this decision because I truly love Dixie Belle products!
The estate sale shelving unit made for a great display piece:
I also brought in this pretty cabinet that I found at the same estate sale:
And this desk that I found for $19, also at the same estate sale:
Adding the mirror that I redid to match turned it into a sweet dressing table. I also brought in that cute lamp and that small coastal-inspired basket.
Then I added the Duck Egg Blue mirror…you can barely see it on top of the blue-washed dresser to the right:
That mirror and the tall gray and white cabinet sold quickly and I brought in this cute antique chair I redid with the mini check seat:
The black chateau drop-leaf side table at the back of that group above sold.
I decided to bring the dresser from the first picture with the stained drawers home and give it a second chance with this gorgeous transfer:
So much better! That cane-backed chair to the left in the above photo sold, and I brought in the small antique table with the Farmhouse green top to the left and the sewing machine table that I used a leftover transfer on:
Several things in that photo above sold: the white end table to the left and the small coastal-inspired basket on top of it, the set of French provincial side tables in the corner, that gray tote on top there, and the striped dresser peeking out from the back wall.
That made room for this whitewashed drop leaf table, the rooster lamp, a white yard sale chair that is perfect with the desk, and the kids’ blue rocker…
I also brought in that gray folding chair inspired by a project from my dear friend, Jen’s book, and my secret stash box!
The floral transfer dresser sold as well as the secret stash box, so I moved the blue-washed dresser to that spot. You can see here how when I use too many colors or patterns in the same space, that the whole mood of the booth feels a bit cluttered:
That’s just my opinion. The blue dresser sold quickly thereafter though as well as the rooster lamp and the coffee table above, and in came the antique headboard bench and the shiplap tray…
Lamps are usually good sellers, and they really add a nice soft light to the booth. I need to get a couple more in there.
That little Farmhouse green table sold and I brought in this round pedestal table that I had given a quick update to with some Dropcloth. (If you prefer an off-white, this is my favorite.) I also brought in my enjoy basket with the lace top, my sweater pumpkins, and that pretty stenciled shelf on the back wall…
The black chair that I bedazzled with stencils made its way in as well:
And this fabric inlaid night table and the basket with the transfer on the lid:
My Dixie Belle display was starting to get pretty crowded:
So I decided to expand by moving it to the opposite wall:
And adding another shelving unit:
This shelf used to be in my booth to display smaller items before, but it was painted blue.
You might recognize it here at the back of my Fall haul:
It was a pretty blue, but it was a bit on the bold side and stuck out in my booth. I painted it about five years ago so I don’t even remember what color I used. I just wanted a simple white so it wouldn’t stick out so much, so I ended up giving it a couple of coats of Coffee Bean to cover the blue, then I gave it two coats of Fluff.
It wasn’t a very exciting redo and I needed to get it back in my booth, so I didn’t bother posting about it separately.
I missed having this in my booth because it has a drawer at the bottom that is perfect for holding a few cleaning supplies, and extra price tags, lights, etc.
When I stopped in the other day to make another drop-off and reorganize, someone bought the tufted stool above, along with the black stenciled chair behind it and this cutie that was buried at the back:
I love when that happens! That made a little more room for this recent dresser makeover:
The blue ceramics transfer dressing table is still waiting for its forever home, but in the meantime, it looks pretty in my booth:
I also added the Mint Julep drop leaf table…
and this super cute white mini cabinet:
That striped bench that it’s resting on has been here a long time!
You might remember me sharing this painting I found not long after we moved in. I never did find a place for it, so I painted the gold frame white and brought that in too:
Would you believe I only paid $1.98 for it? I also shared the necklace holder above it recently.
And this is what my booth is looking like at the moment:
There are still a few pieces holding on for dear life. This set of barstools holds the record for lasting the longest in my booth:
You can see them in the second photo of my booth at the top, but they are just out of the camera shot to the right of my new Dixie Belle display in all the other photos. They have been here since the Summer of 2016!! That photo is in front of the kitchen island in our old house.
Maybe most people need a set of three or four? Ah well. Many pieces have sold and I am so grateful!
I usually experience a slow-down again in the Fall, then it will pick back up when it’s freezing outside when people are looking to get out and do something.
I hoped you enjoyed this little field trip to my booth today!

Good morning Christy! This was fun and I am so happy for your success. Is the end table with the whale still in your booth? I love that and hope it has sold. I just got a small booth in a good mall but I only rented a small space that doesn’t have walls so I have to figure out what I can sell there. I am just testing the water right now and you have given me so many great ideas to use on my thrifty finds. Have a lovely week and thanks for your tour!
Christy says
I’m so thrilled you enjoyed the tour, Cecilia! The blue whale table sold to the same person who bought the coffee table. They bought them both for their beach rental. I forgot to mention that one! I wish you lots of luck with your new booth!! XOXO

Your booth is always lovely and inviting. I’m in Michigan and Florida. Unfortunately
Virginia Beach is not a spot I can stop by.
Christy says
Thanks so much, Sue! Too bad you can’t visit! XOXO

If I could re-do my house, I would head straight to your booth and buy everything!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Sharon!! XOXO
Wendy says
Christie, what a lovely booth. One thing I might suggest for your bar/kitchen stools is to paint them black with a Paris stenciling or some other cool stenciling on top in white /perhaps a Zebra motif or just plain white stripes. I can almost guarantee you will sell them immediately. Right now, the color they are may not appeal to many kitchen colors but black will go with everything and yet not show any dirt or scuffs. If I have a wood turned piece that does not sell, it seems painting it black always does the trick and they fly off the shelf per say. Hope this helps.
Christy says
Thank you, Wendy! I may take your suggestion as black seems to always sell for me too! XOXO
Candy says
Thanks for sharing! You have gorgeous pieces I love them all.
Blessings, Candy
Christy says
Thanks so much, Candy!! XOXO

Your friend in Easton, Eastern Shore of Md… 😉
Christy says
Aww thank you, Denise!! Nope…always Va Beach…we’re not too far from each other!! XOXO

Absolutely beautiful and inspiring. I am a retired lady who has refinished furniture since I was a newly wed on a very strict budget. This past year I took the plunge and found a small booth space of my own and am having fun with it. What I struggle with is pricing. I seem to be too high and end up marking things down after a about three months; or too low. I am still kicking myself over two pieces that I spent weeks on and got gun shy (see prior sentence 🙁 ) and priced too low. I wasn’t even home yet when they both were bought and out the door. Ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Christy says
Thank you, Joyce! Pricing is always the hardest part. I too have let things go for too low and wanted to kick myself after. I say continue to start a bit high and mark down as needed. When I do mark things down, I generally make a whole new tag as I think it looks better if it doesn’t look like it’s on clearance. Also shop your own store and see how others are pricing things. The best way I’ve found to get things moving is by moving things around. Good luck! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Christy! You do really well in your booth. I did sell 2 pieces my first day and i have sold a few smalls. I am still working on getting more furniture in there. Right now i am working on my small table in Mint Julep and an antique dresser i am going to paint in fluff and use the American Flag transfer. We will see how that goes over. You are a true inspiration to me and i appreciate you. thank you
Christy says
I had a rough Spring, but I’ve been keeping my booth stocked so much better this year and I think that really helps! Congratulations on your sales! It’s always nice to hear things have sold and gives you the encouragement to keep creating! I bought a flag transfer too ha ha! I bet that will look fantastic with the Fluff! Thank you so much, my friend! XOXO
Tammy Ganci says
Oh how I wish I lived closer!!!!!! I am in love with the distressed twin headboard with hooks you have on the wall. If I may, can I ask the price along with the shipping and handling if you even do that? I live in Toms River NJ. If you can email me that would be amazing
Christy says
I wish you lived closer too, Tammy! I believe I have $45 on that piece, but I don’t ship larger items. I’m so sorry! XOXO
Susan McCall says
love the tour of your booth. wish i lived in Virginia Beach. i love the colors. i’m so tired of seeing everything in gray.
Christy says
Thank you, Susan! You can implement a little coastal flair no matter where you live! XOXO
Robyn Wright says
I want to live in your booth. It looks so cozy and pretty. 🙂 I always look forward to seeing the updates.
I’m curious about the spoons…are they a makeover as well?
Have a fun trip!
Christy says
Aww you’re so sweet, Robyn! Thank you! The spoons were provided by Dixie Belle…they are each painted a different paint color so buyers can see a sample of the colors. XOXO
Ange Mills says
Well, that was a fun field trip this morning. I had a little cuppa tea and looked and all your pretty treasures. I particularly loved ❤️ the foot stool. Just in case I haven’t told you lately-
I love your blog and all your creative advise that you share with us. You’re the best!
Christy says
I am so glad that you enjoyed it, Ange! That footstool lasted a bit longer than I thought it would, but I was glad to see it finally go. You are the sweetest! I always appreciate your encouragement and kind words, my friend! XOXO
Julie Briones says
I always love your booth tours. I remember those bar stools… I LOVE them! I’m so surprised they haven’t sold. They would be perfect in a tiny home!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Julie! Yes, they would be perfect in a tiny home! XOXO
Sue Mellette says

Christy says
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Susan! I wish you lived closer too! XOXO
Ilene Goodenough says
Your booth tours are my favorite..I love to see what sells! It’s also good to see that not always do we get it right the first time sometimes you have to repaint and freshen up a piece to get it out the door. I do agree that lining the drawers makes a difference. If someone is interested they open the drawers and it is a nice surprise. I usually use a black and white toile wallpaper.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Ilene! Oh yes, there have been several things I’ve had to bring home and redo to get them sold. I love black and white toile! It is so timeless and elegant! XOXO
Gail says
I keep seeing the buffalo plaid suitcase. Did it sell? I was thinking if you displayed it opened with a picnic set inside or something else suggested, i think it might have sold immediately. I love it but can’t “see” a use for it.
Christy says
Nope it’s still there! I don’t mind that it still there though because it makes for a cute prop in my booth. It will eventually go, but I like the idea of adding a picnic set to it! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
I always enjoy these field trips and seeing your projects again, Christy. I hope you and Nancy have a great time at the conference!
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! Poor Nancy…She came down with a fever and chills this morning and couldn’t fly out with me boo-hoo! She’s my travel buddy and it’s not the same without her, but a couple of the girls that are in our furniture fixer-upper group are here so I’m not alone! XOXO
Mary Loveland says
Just wonderful! That just has to make you feel good! I bet that re-do dresser with the flowers across the front sells soon; if I were there I would probably talk you out of that step cabinet with all the curlycues you got at the estate sale…that is just gorgeous! I can’t believe those stools haven’t sold, they are really cute; maybe they need a removable top cushion? I’ve seen them where they have a cushy top (lined) and elastic or tie that fits under the wood top of the stool. Sometimes they are simple like that or sometimes they have a little skirt.
How exciting to see what’s selling! Are you noticing any new trends? Does it pick up a bit for the Christmas holiday?
Christy says
Thanks, Mary! The dresser with the flowers did sell and pretty quickly too! And to think it sat in my booth for forever with those brown drawers! Someone suggested painting the stools black and it seems that everything I paint black does sell, so I may just do that and see how it goes! I haven’t really noticed any new trends but like always, white sells the quickest. That and things that have function like trays, lamps, etc. I actually do not get great business around the holidays, but oddly enough, January is usually a great month for me! XOXO
Tammy Ganci says
Thank you for getting back to me!!!! I would have snatched that up ASAP.
Enjoy your day,
Tammy
xo
Christy says
You’re welcome! 🙂
Susan Duffy says
Sure wish you were here in the Midwest! Love your ideas. A new little shop near me has started carrying Dixie Bell paint – can’t wait to try it.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Susan! And yay! You will love their products! XOXO

Christy says
