$5 Yard Sale Chair Makeover

This is the story of a sweet little yard sale chair I found for $5 at a yard sale last summer.  I think I love it so much because the elderly couple I was purchasing it from was so sweet.  As a nurse I have worked with many elderly patients in the past and they are by far my favorite. They all have a story to tell and I love to listen. I've seen the spryest of 90 year olds and you can't help but feel joy in their presence. This couple seemed like they had shared a happy life together, but the … [Read more...]

How to Remove Stain without Sanding

Hi friends! Today I'm sharing how I removed the stain from my dining room table top without sanding. The first thing I usually reach for when removing the stain from a piece of furniture is my handy dandy sander. I thought I'd share another option that is pretty simple, that doesn't remove any of the original surface through sanding, leaving those pretty curves completely in tact. I'm including a few affiliate links so you can find the products I used. Read my full disclosure here. You … [Read more...]

How to Build a Headboard Bench

Hello lovelies! Today I'm going to share with you what I did to my pineapple bed I found at Lucketts this Spring. You may remember it looking like this: Both the headboard and my garden look much different these days! Here's what that headboard is looking like these days... Isn't that bed in the back gorgeous?! I know it's a … [Read more...]

What to do with that Old Headboard

Hello, beautiful Friends!  Today I am sharing what I did with an old headboard I found at a yard sale for a mere $5.  My car was already packed, but I squeezed her in! Here she is as I found her: And here is how I repurposed her: Aint she perty now?? The previous owner had already spray painted it black which was the perfect background for my Cottage White DIY chalk paint. I'll tell you, after going back to Annie Sloan chalk paint to paint an entire dining set, I did not … [Read more...]

Fun Drawer Upcycle

Remember when we sawed off the awkward hump on Brennan's changing table?  Feel free to see the madness for yourself here. We had this drawer left over. Of course my husband claimed it as trash and I could feel myself in slow motion saying, "Nnnoooo.." as he was headed out the door to toss it. I saved that drawer's life, you know. Here it is in it's beautiful new life: Oh but you need to see the before... B.O.R.I.N.G.! I found the legs at a yard sale for a dollar for all … [Read more...]

This Small Mirror Makes a Big Impact

How do you like my new mirror? Bold, right? I like that it makes a BIG impact. If I'd have seen this at Home Goods, this would have gone straight into my cart. That above pic is from my most recent Summer Home Tour. It was so simple to make. It's actually a smaller mirror mounted onto plywood that's framed out. The title of this post should have been, "From Epic Fail to Awesome".  This project started with a plan to use the mirror below that was removed from the boys' bathroom last summer, … [Read more...]

What should you do with your old gate? Don’t throw it away!

Last Summer, my neighbors were having a new fence put up.  One day while the installers were working, I happened to head out to the mailbox just as they were leaving for lunch.  They had left a huge pile of old fence parts at the end of the driveway.  And there it was...just gleaming in all its glory...this beautiful gate: I had to think fast. I grabbed my son who was nine at the time and had him help me haul it into the garage. I had no idea what I was going to do with it ( I was … [Read more...]
