Hello lovelies!! I’m back today with the last basket from my Spring 2022 Haul! I just love a chalk painted basket, and this one is definitely asking to be painted:
I had two very similar baskets in this haul that made for a cute set:
If you missed it, I shared the one on the bottom on Tuesday HERE, but I had so many photos to share that I decided to break them into two posts!
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Clean
As I mentioned on Tuesday, really the only prep I do when painting baskets is give them a good vacuum with the brush attachment on my shop vac.
Paint
I started this one off the same as the first by spray priming it inside my small spray shelter with a good spray of Rustoleum spray primer:
Even though I plan to use chalk paint, this will help to get a quick first coat on. It is not a necessary step!
Chalk Painted Basket
Once again I enlisted the help of my Belle Brush to paint this basket in my go-to bright white, Dixie Belle’s Cotton:
It gets into smaller spaces that my Best Dang Brush can’t reach as well…
Then, I decided to add a stripe of Vintage Duck Egg Blue around the sides and also on the top.
To do that, I taped it off with FrogTape for Delicate surfaces:
After adding a little dot detail around the top edge and giving it a good sanding, I sealed with a spray sealer.
The After
I took all my photos at once, so the staging is the same, but paint gave this basket a whole new look!
I didn’t mention my hydrangeas on Tuesday, but I am SO thrilled to see them all blooming! I was heartbroken to have to leave behind three humongous hydrangea bushes at our old house.
These are actually from what started out as a cutting from my husbands’s great grandmother’s hydrangea bushes.
His mom had given us a small part of one when we lived at our old house.
When we moved, we dug it up and brought it here!
I just love the lavender toned ones that our soil gives us! They were deeper blue at our old house.
Back to the basket!
Sanding this basket gives it a bit of a time worn look…
And I decided to embellish this one with a simple Hobby Lobby handle on the top:
Of course, I painted the inside as well…
Because it had that wood piece across the inside of the lid, I was able to screw the handle on top right into it.
This basket originally had a piece of thin wood across the bottom, so instead of lining the whole interior like I did the first one, I only covered the very bottom:
I just cut the fabric to fit and then attached it with matte Mod Podge, brushing it on like a glue with a chip brush.
And that is basket number two from this set complete!
While I like them individually, I really like them stacked as a set!
These would be cute in just about any room for a little extra hidden storage!
Visit the first one HERE if you missed it. I shared how I added those sweet feet and how to make a NO SEW fabric liner for the inside.
That’s another two pieces crossed off the list!!

I’ll be stepping away from my haul for Tuesday’s Trash-to-Treasure project though since none of the four pieces I have left are very trashy.
This CD holder I found this week will be my project piece instead:
It’s not that trashy either, but there isn’t a high demand for a CD holder these days, so this one will be getting a whole new purpose!
UPDATE: You’ll love how cute this turned out! See it HERE now!
Have a lovely weekend!

Love your hydrangeas!! Just lovely! And I like this basket better than the last one…I like the handle and didn’t realize the top was domed. 😃
Christy says
Thanks so much, Denise! It must be the blue in it…we love that blue! XOXO

Hope you keep the two baskets; they look so pretty together. The fabric on the inside of this one matches so well but not surprised. Love the little dots on the outside of this one also. Can’t wait to see what you do with the CD holder. Have a great week-end.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! I don’t have a spot for them unfortunately, so they will be heading to the booth, but I hope they sell together! Enjoy your weekend too! XOXO

HI, BEAUTIFUL BASKETS! I HAVE A QUESTION…..I SEE SOMETIMES YOU MENTION YOU USE WIPES FOR CLEANING SOME OF YOUR ITEMS. DO THESE WORK WELL AND DO THEY LEAVE ANY RESIDUE? JUST CURIOUS TO KNOW IF THIS IS A GOOD ALTERNATIVE? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND FOR SHARING YOUR WONDERFUL PROJECTS. HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!
Christy says
Thank you, Julie! If you ever see me use wipes in a post, it is a pre-pandemic post lol. I used to use wipes until they were no longer available during the height of COVID. That is when I decided to give White Lightning a try, and I will never go back! I would sometimes use a dozen or more wipes to try and get something clean enough to paint and they would leave fibers here and there. The White Lightning is a degreaser and deglosser and my pieces have never been prepped better! You can use wipes though if you like as they did work fine for me for years. And thank you so much! XOXO

It would have been so cute anyway, but that top stripe and handle are genius! (I would never have thought of those! 😩 Haha!)
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Cyndi! It’s hard sometimes to know when to stop. I keep looking at this one and thinking that I should have added something cute dangling from the handle lol! XOXO

Thanks for sharing the baskets with us. I have a few that are just stack up in basement. How i can go forward and do something with them. One I have is the shape of a purse. That will be the first one I do. Also wanted to add on this comment the stool you did and place on front porch. You style it just right!!!. But I do have a question where did you find the black and white figures of the cats. I love them. I would be grateful if you would share where you find them. Have a wonderful day and keep on sharing.

My pleasure, CeCe! That purse one sounds very unique. And thank you! I found the kitty statue at HomeGoods a couple of years ago, but if you search “kitty with butterfly statue”, there are several retailers that sell them. I believe Grandin Road has the best price on them at the moment: https://www.grandinroad.com/clowder-of-cats-garden-statues It is on sale and only about $10 more than I paid at HomeGoods. XOXO

Thanks I will look. Have a beautiful day!!!!
