Hello lovelies!! I’m bringing y’all another free-to-me piece today! I’m sharing a lamp makeover with wax!
Wax is such a simple way to add depth to all those pretty details that many lamps have.
Here is how this curbside set started:
As I was nearing the time to share my new haul, I drove around our neighborhood on trash day checking for any potential makeover candidates that I could add to my FREE-to-me haul when I happened upon these two lamps. They were in a pile of boxes that looked like they had been placed on the curb during a move-out.
Honestly, I really wanted to linger there and dig through the boxes, but I decided to just grab the lamps and go. Imagine me grabbing them and telling the driver, “Go go go!!” Except, the driver was me ha ha.
Lamp Makeover with Wax: Easy as Paint, Wax, Buff!
Paint
I decided to give these cuties a simple makeover, starting with a coat of Vintage Duck Egg Blue that I applied using my Best Dang Brush:
I gave them two coats. This brush is intended mainly for wax but it is fantastic for getting in all those detailed parts really quickly and easily!
WAX
Once the paint was dry, I applied Best Dang Wax in White with my smaller wax brush, the La Petite:
BUFF
I applied it all over and then went back with a clean, soft cloth and removed the excess wax:
That is it!
The after
This sad set of throw-away lamps looks so much better now!
I picked up these shades at Target for $10 each…
The wax nestles in the details and adds depth…
These would have looked great with black wax also!
I had some trims that I really wanted to dress up the shades with, but for saleability, I decided to keep them plain.
This lamp makeover with wax was so quick and simple! My favorite!
And luckily, they do both work! Bonus!

They’re beautiful now, Christy.
Christy says
#Trashure for sure!! Thanks, friend! XOXO
Karen says
The lamps look really lovely. You didn’t mention using clear wax first before you applied the white wax. I don’t have much experience doing this, but I thought the clear was applied first to make wiping back the white or dark wax easier. Can the white be applied without using the clear first?
Christy says
Thank you, Karen! I only clear wax first when using darker waxes like black and brown. The white can be applied right over the paint. 🙂 XOXO
Toby says
You crack me up Christy, “GO GO GO!” LOL
I can imagine myself doing the same thing!
And they are gorgeous! Great flip!
Have a great day!
Christy says
That’s how I always feel ha ha! Thank you, my friend! XOXO
Jackie C says
Hard to believe they would throw away such good stuff instead of donating. I chuckle sometimes when I see attempts at makeovers. They look just like some of mine have 😜 You have taught me over time, how color, technique and things like wax can turn ugly into beautiful. That wax made ALL the difference! ♥️♥️♥️
Christy says
I know, right?? It also makes me wonder what else was in those boxes! The original makeover on this one needed some fixin for sure, but luckily, it was an easy fix! Thanks, Jackie! XOXO
Cecilia says
How did you resist digging through those boxes? Lol. The lamps look amazing. The wax really lets all those details shine!
I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with the ugly duckling.
🙂

Oh, if only they all were so easy, Christy! I thought this pair was going to trip you up because of the existing paint job but you’d never know now that they were treated so badly before. Simple and beautiful (my favorite 😊)
Christy says
I wish they were all this easy!! Thank you, my friend!! XOXO
Lizzy says
They came out great! Love the color. I would have grabbed those lamps, too. I must pick up one of those best dang brushes!
Christy says
Thank you, Lizzy!! That brush is awesome! Glad you were able to access it finally! 🙂 XOXO
Becky says
Beautiful! You can’t beat a “curbside special”, as my father-in-law would call it. 😊 They came out even better than I expected!
Christy says
Thank you Becky! Ha ha I like that…curbside special! XOXO
Jeri Walker says
You mentioned the lamps already had wax on them, can you paint over wax? I thought paint would not stick to anything that had been waxed.
Christy says
Hi Jeri! These did not have wax on them. However, Dixie Belle’s wax is water-based and can be painted over. It’s the stinky waxes that are oil-based that must be removed first. I think these lamps just had a bad spray paint job. 🙂 XOXO
Carroll Xavier says
Wow, gorgeous! Amazing what people will toss away and not see the potential. Awesome job, you 🙂
Christy says
Thanks so much, Carroll! I know…lucky for me though! XOXO
Connie says
Just beautiful as always Christy. I love the definition that the wax gives.
Christy says
Thank you, Connie! Yes! Wax highlights those details so nicely! XOXO
Deanna says
Go go go!! Lol. What a find. The lamps turned out lovely. I’m going to be on the lookout for a pair of lamps while thrifting to try this technique on. Can’t wait to see what you do with that dark desk! Have a great week!
Christy says
Tank you, Deanna! Can you just imagine me speeding away with my newfound treasures ha ha! Good luck in your search for lamps…hopefully you’ll find a couple! See ya tomorrow! XOXO
Michele M. says
What a fabulous score, Christy! Love that color and the white wax showcasing those awesome details took them to a whole new level. Well done, ma’am.
Christy says
Thank you, Michele! The wax really adds so much! XOXO
Sharon H says
Oh my! Sometimes you crack me up, Christy. Go go go to the driver….lol I was looking for the like button! These lamps turned out so nice and pretty. I nabbed a couple similar to these except one is smaller than the other. Then I have a nice tall one on my sideboard I’m wanting to make over. I just don’t know what base color I want! Decisions decisions.😉😉
Christy says
Thank you, Sharon! Ha ha that’s how I always feel when nabbing something curbside! Choosing a color is surely the hardest part! Have fun! XOXO
Michelle says
Your lamps are so pretty!! I love the color. The story of how you got them cracked me up!
Christy says
Thank you, Michelle! Curb shopping is an adventure ha ha! XOXO
