Hey there sweet friends! Ya’ll know my poor booth has been suffering lately thanks to the new house and all. Well I stopped by there last week and confirmed it. Yup, it is a sad state of affairs over there at the moment. But guess what finally sold?
See more of that makeover HERE if you missed it. It took a year and a half but their new keeper finally found them! That was a nice surprise, but I may not have even made my booth fee this month so I really need to get some inventory in there!
My best sellers as far as furniture goes are dressers, and I have none in there at the moment. I have been on the hunt with not luck, so yesterday I spent the entire day thrifting all over the city in search of a couple of dressers. Still no luck, so I jumped on Craig’s list when I got home and found a small dresser for $40 that looked promising. I drove an hour each way to pick it up, but at least I have one.
I had a small project in the works that I planned to share today, but my thrifting excursion took longer than anticipated and I didn’t get it finished. So I am sharing an oldie but goodie from a couple of years ago instead.
This is a good before and after. I’m sharing this little cabinet that I found at the thrift store for $8:
The painting on this was beautifully done, but definitely in need of an update. One of the doors was warped also, but I knew exactly how to remedy that!
Looks like an entirely different cabinet, don’t ya think?
I didn’t really do much except paint, add a graphic, and swap out the doors.
Gotta give it up to my old fence picket pile:
They make so many things better.
I sanded where the decorative painting was previously to get a smooth finish. Then I just painted using white latex paint since I was painting over paint.
I used the old doors as a guide to build my new doors.
I white washed them by using the super simple process shown here. (And like I used recently on my coffee table and kitchen table.)
I attached the cross pieces with screws from the backside…
I reused the original hinges and magnetic closure.
Then I added the “Beach” graphic to the top for a little fun touch. See more about transferring graphics here.
The pulls came off of an older piece. I just spray painted them white…
You could hang this anywhere to hide a few things.
Now it’s a fun one-of-a-kind!
Here’s another oldie but goodie you might enjoy:
See what on earth I made with these pieces HERE!
I’ll be back on Tuesday with my Trash-to-Treasure girls sharing what I did with my new Craig’s List dresser:
UPDATE: No need to wait…see how I updated this cutie HERE now!
Have a great weekend! 🙂
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Makes for a cute bathroom cabinet but I am a bit surprised that there is no backing on it.
Christy says
Thanks, Colleen! I did this over two years ago and now that you mention it, why did I not add a back?? Ha ha oh well! XOXO
Christina in FL says
Oh Christy, this is yet another wonderful makeover. If you put it in your shop, I am certain it will sell fast. Love the “Beach ->” :)))
Christy says
Thanks, Christina! Have a great weekend! XOXO

Wow!!! I love the way the cabinet turned out…my oldest daughter would love Thank you and God bless
Christy says
Thank you, Norma! This was fun one to do! 🙂

I love looking back at your old projects, Christy! Is there anything that can’t be improved with some old fence pickets? I missed the old drawer/frame combo the first time around, so it was fun to see that too. Even though it didn’t have any pickets. ????
Christy says
I’m so glad you said that, Marcie! I feel a bit guilty sharing “re-runs”. Until I get the house under control, there may be a few more oldies here and there! Yes, I’ve definitely gotten my mileage out of those pickets! I still have the drawer/frame combo. I’m debating whether to freshen up with a coat of white paint and keep it or sell it as is. We shall see! Have a great weekend! XOXO

So pretty… I don’t remember seeing this one. I may have started following you after. Good luck on the dresser shopping! And… I just MAY have finished something!!!
Christy says
Thanks, Julie! This was over two years ago. It’s funny to see my old house in these posts! And again, you did an awesome job on your cabinet!! XOXO

Your picket pile is turning into beautiful treasures. This is adorable and it really does look like an entirely new cabinet! x
Christy says
Thanks, Denise! I’ve gotten a ton of mileage out of those pickets!! XOXO
Eneida Couto says
This is adorable! Love the beach theme. I am planning a trip and will go to your booth. Congratulations on your new home. Can’t wait for a tour with your personal touches. Is fun to decorate a new place, so much to do, yet so much fun to have!
Christy says
Thanks, Eneida! I have neglected my poor booth since the move, but I’m working on a few things for it this weekend to start getting it stocked back up! I have really enjoyed decorating our new house so far…I’ll continue share what I get accomplished as I go! Hope you are enjoying your weekend so far! XO

You amaze me with how you can make something gorgeous out of something that’s…er, not so great. What is the name of the font you used on this project? It’s just what I’m looking for.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Diana! This font is Felix Titling. 🙂

I have an old kitchen cabinet that is tin and glass, how would you redo something like this.
Thanks
Christy says
Hi Pheobe…it is hard to answer since I cannot see the cabinet you are referring to, and I don’t know your style. Can the glass be removed? Will this be a high-traffic piece? Your cabinet might be a good candidate for spray paint, but of course chalk paint works on metal too and would work great if is not a high traffic piece.

Please show me a good solution to this old cabinet.
