Hello amazing friends! Today I’m back with another piece from my Mother’s Day haul! It’s this sweet drop-leaf kitchen table I shared a sneak peek of on Thursday:
It was pretty wonky when I got it, but tightening up all the nuts on the bolts holding the legs in place took care of that pretty easily.
I started this one by giving it a good cleaning. I like to use Lysol-type wipes, but because those are hard to come by at the moment, warm water with a little dish soap works too, or Dixie Belle makes a tough cleaner you mix with water called White Lightning.
Then I painted over the legs and painted the underside in Dixie Belle’s Fluff:
I shared this photo mostly to show how I tackle a drop leaf table. I like to paint the underside completely first before flipping upright and painting the top, and this is the easiest way to paint the underside. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
I ended up going over the Fluff with Savannah Mist. I started this at the same time as the $3 thrift store box I did in Savannah Mist that I shared on Thursday, and I knew after finishing that box that I wanted to use the same color on this table top also.
After painting both the underside of the top and the top, I sanded all over with 220 grit sandpaper wrapped around an old foam sanding block:
I used my shop vac to remove all the sanding dust. (Don’t forget your dust mask while you sand!)
Then, I pulled these two cuties out of my stash:
I have a set of four of these chairs that went to a kitchen table. The set originally belonged to my Mom, and she gave them to me about 20 years ago or so. I eventually put them out at one of my yard sales and one of my besties bought the set from me for extra seating at the holidays. You may remember her lowboy that she gave me that I redid HERE this Spring. When she dropped that piece off with another piece I was redoing for her, she asked if I wanted these chairs back also and of course, I said yes! I knew I would eventually match them to something!
Well today is the day!
After removing the chair inserts and giving them a good cleaning, I pulled out my medium-sized Home Right Spray Shelter and spray primed these two chairs using Rustoleum spray primer:
It is a great size and perfect for small furniture items like chairs! It is super easy to set up also. It just pops right up.
They did not need primed, but this was just a great way to get a first coat on. Chairs are not the most fun to paint. This way, I only needed to brush on one coat of Fluff:
I could have used my sprayer, but this went pretty quickly!
I sealed both the table and both chairs with Gator Hide using their blue sponge applicator. It is the best choice for high-traffic pieces as it is water-repellent and super durable!
All I had left to do was cover the chair inserts. I removed the top layer of fabric because it had a texture to it that would show through the final fabric. I chose to recover the seat pads in one of my favorites, blue and white ticking.
I attached it using my cheapie staple gun:
Voila!
Check out this cute set now!
It’s hard to see the blue top from far away, but here’s a closer look…
I love it combined with the ticking in the chairs:
How about a different view?
This is perfect if you just have a small space. It could even function as a makeshift desk or as a table for one.
I love this blue so much. Savannah Mist is a lovely gray blue color…
If you look closely, you can see imperfections in the wood beneath the paint. There are a few scratches in the wood that I chose not to sand this time.
We’ll just call that character.
I painted the top white first also. I like seeing the white peeking through…
These chairs turned out so cute…
The style and petite size were perfect for this table!
These small ironstone saucers are one of my favorite thrift store finds. I only paid 15¢ a piece for them on clearance:
So many of my favorite elements in one…a total seaside cottage makeover!
Wasn’t that a fun one? And I was able to use up two of those chairs that have just been sitting in our garage! Win!!
And another one crossed off the list!
Visit the other two I’ve already completed at the links below. They’re good ones! 🙂
I am still working on Thursday’s makeover. It’s a total beast!
My Furniture Fixer Upper friends will be joining me too, so be sure to stop back by for a visit!
UPDATE: This was a GOOD ONE, y’all! See how it turned out HERE now!!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Oh my they are so beautiful now!!! I can’t get over how much they look like they belong together, a match made in heaven. I really love the blue ticking fabric on the chairs, it is just right!! I am always so happy to get up and get my coffee on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and get on to see what you have created, it is always so amazing!
Christy says
Aww you are the best, Mary! Thank you! I couldn’t get over how well they matched either! Have an amazing day! XOXO

I get up extra early to see your project of the day…love what you do!
Christy says
Oh that makes my heart so happy, Rowena! Thank you so much, my friend! XOXO
Christina says
Christy this turned out so well! Love the colors, the ticking and how the turned legs of the chairs work so well with the table. Someone is going to snatch these up in a heartbeat. 🙂
I love how you do just a tad of sanding. And, yes, the table has character… and sweetness.
Be well!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Christina! I just dropped this set off at my booth yesterday and it looks so cute that I almost hope it lasts for a little while lol! Have a great day! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Hi Christy,! I love Savannah Mist. If I live closer I would buy this set. It’s perfect for my small apartment. I love it.
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! Aww I wish you were closer! This is ideal for a small space! XOXO
Maryellen Webber says
This table is beautiful with the Savannah Mist on top. I need to paint our kitchen chairs, they 27 years old and have been used and abused! I think I will get one of those tents for spray painting. Thanks for the inspiration!
Christy says
Thank you, Maryellen! That tent is awesome! It allows me to spray away without worry of the mist getting on anything else! XOXO
LORI Troxclair says
I look forward to seeing your post every Tuesday & Thursday, you make everything look like so much fun !! Thank you !!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Lori!! XOXO
Petra says
I do love a good drop-leaf table – and I like that you painted the legs a different colour to the top 😀 Another great project done and dusted! xo
Christy says
Me too…I am a sucker for a pretty drop leaf table! Thanks, Petra! XOXO
Elizabeth K Downes says
Good Morning! I enjoyed seeing this little table makeover. It is just like one I had in my room as a child. It was my arts and crafts table..haha
Then when I was in college, I used it for a restoration piece in a design class. Then I used it in my tiny kitchen in my first house. My kitchen was “done” in orange and avocado green. It was the 70s after all. ;o)
I loved it for a very long time…..not sure how it got away from me but it was nice to visit it and see how you have perked it up!
Stay cool!!!
Christy says
Good morning, Elizabeth and thank you!! It is a great little table…so versatile! I’m glad you enjoyed seeing it made over! XOXO
Jerri says
Love, love, love! Love the colors, love the fabric, love the pieces together.
I do have a question about the gatorhide. Do you use this with wax or varnish or in place of these options?
Thank you!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Jerri! The Gator Hide is used in place of wax or varnish and it is fantastic on these high-traffic pieces…very durable! XOXO
Denise Cox says
Love the ensemble… but am LOVIN’ that adorable table! You know how I love shades of coastal colors… 😉!!
Christy says
Thank you, Denise! These coastal colors give me all the feels too! XOXO
Janice Holt says

You had me at ticking…😍😍😍
Christy says
Right?? Ha ha!! XOXO
Mary King says
Thanks again Christie for putting a smile on my face. The table looks lovely and the chairs are perfect for it!
Christy says
Oh I am so glad you like it, Mary! It was such a charming little table to start and I’m so happy I could have fun with this one! Thank you again for blessing me with these pieces! Have a beautiful day! XOXO
Toby Peplow says
Adorable Christy! So I am just curious … did you end up putting a sealer on over the chalk paint? Or were you done after you sanded it? and your chairs too, did you decide that they really didn’t need a sealer? Thanks!!
Christy says
Thank you, Toby! I sure did…I talked about what I sealed with after sharing the chairs. I used Gator Hide on all three pieces! XOXO
april says
Same question here sweetie..also is the white spray paint all that you did to the legs of the chair?
april says
I couldn’t do both so will you please contact me thru email with the answers Thanks So Much!
Christy says
Hi April! I shared how I sealed all three pieces in the post after I shared the chairs. I used Dixie Belle’s Gator Hide. As for the legs, I spray primed the entire chair and then I painted the entire chair with one coat of Fluff. 🙂
Cecilia says
What a cute set it is now. There’s just something charming about a small drop leaf table – guess it reminds me of the one my grandparents had in their kitchen. I like the blue too! Very pretty!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! I too love the charm of a small drop leaf table! XOXO
Nancy says
What’s the difference between chalk paint and chalk mineral paint?
As always, I loved today’s table and chairs project.
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! That is a great question. I do know that Dixie Belle’s paint has a smoother finish than a traditional chalk paint and that may be one of the differences. XOXO
Stacey says
So sweet, love that blue color!! Beautiful transformation!!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Stacey! XOXO
Sharon says
I always look forward to your posts and you turn ugly into beautiful. I have this same table in our little kitchen. Been looking at it trying to decide how to redo it. I believe this will be my inspiration. The chairs I have were purchased from a friend 45 years ago (6 of them). They need to be repainted and am thinking about that pretty blue as they have red for 45 years! Thanks again and have a blessed day.
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Sharon! I love that you are feeling inspired! This blue is a fantastic color! XOXO
joan says
Christy, this came out so cute! I also am a sucker for drop leaf tables: can never pass by one at a sale. And the blue top is perfect.
I was wondering what the piece hanging on the wall is? Did you make it or did it have a purpose originally? I have one in my basement that needs to be cleaned up and now i will hang it up after seeing how cute yours looks.
Christy says
Thank you, Joan! I do love a cutie pie drop leaf table too! That is a window frame I found at an estate sale years and years ago for $2. I put a piece of decorative sheet metal that my husband had left over from a project in it. I usually have a wreath hanging on it… It makes the perfect backdrop! XOXO
Julie Ritter says
Very cool project I love it. People are always looking for a small set for their porch or balcony etc. NICE !! Also I have a sprayer but have not used it yet. Thanks for the tip on the shelter !!! I was wondering where i was going to do it without making a mess. :):)
Christy says
Thanks, Julie! Yes, that shelter is awesome! XOXO
Dianne Noffke says
Love this Christy! I’m a sucker for blue and white ticking also. All looks as if they were meant for each other. Thanks for all your inspiration.
Christy says
Thank you, Dianne! They really do look like a matched set, right? XOXO
sharon austin says
Love it! Fluff is the color I’ve picked for my kitchen cabinets! Now I just have to get them done LOL.
Christy says
Thank you, Sharon! I love Fluff!! Good luck! XOXO
Vicki Bauerle says
I love this table!! I wish I could find one it would be perfect in my little kitchen. Colors and chairs are beautiful, one of my favorite projects.
Christy says
Aww I’m so glad you like it, Vicki, thank you! It really is a cutie…I wish I had a spot for it myself!
Addie says
Cute set ….nice save!!! How come your spray tent is so clean? No paint splatters? I would think that thing would be covered.
There are a lot of uses for that set and I am sure it will not last long in your space!!! Keep it going girlfriend!!!
Christy says
Thanks, Addie! And ha ha…nope…that’s the beauty of using so much white lol! Actually, this is my second one…my other had become quite crusty! XOXO
Tina Matteson says
Love these so much! Always amazing.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Tina!! XOXO
Donna says
What a lovely set!
Christy says
Thank you, Donna! XOXO
Sue H Mellette says
So fresh and lively! I love the gray blue of Savannah Mist. Paired with the white chairs and blue and white ticking stripe, these pieces make the perfect cottage vibe. Thanks for sharing as always!
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! This is one of my favorite looks…I am a sucker for anything coastal-cottage inspired! XOXO
ROSE LEFEBVRE says
I used to have a table just like that! You made it look so cool! Love the chairs, too.
Christy says
Thank you, Rose! This was a trip down memory lane then ha ha! XOXO
M. Constance Colvin says
Beautiful job as usual Christy! Can you tell me how you get such nice, neat corners on your chair seat cover?
Christy says
Thank you, Connie! I pull the fabric that is on the corner of the seat straight down on the corner, and then I fold the fabric on either side in to create a single pleat in the corner. Then I pull it taut and staple in place. I also cut some of the excess fabric off the corner so it lays nice and flat. I will share pics the next time I cover a seat! XOXO
Sue Duffy says
Love this adorable set!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Sue! XOXO
Sandra says
I’m thinking of getting a spaying tent like you have for my daughter for her birthday…is it strudy?
Christy says
Hi Sandra! I usually put a 2×4 on the inside on either side because we always have at least a breeze here being near the water, but if she doesn’t get a lot of wind, it works great as is! They also make a smaller one for small projects and a larger one that takes a bit more to set up, but can hold projects as large as a dresser. XOXO
Paula says
Hi Christy,
This is a sweet table and chairs set. The striped fabric is perfect. I like that the top of the table is blue. It actually brings out the details. Savannah Mist is like a breath of fresh air. Thanks for the inspiration and your expertise.
Xoxo Paula
Christy says
Thanks, Paula! I too love this color…it is so relaxing too, if a color can be called relaxing! XOXO
Robin says
So, so sweet. Amazing that the chair legs match the table legs. Must have been from the same era… Is the color really a blue/gray? It looks more like a baby blue shade.
Christy says
Thank you, Robin! It really is so great how well the chairs match. This is more of a blue gray. I know some computers/phones may show the color differently though. XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
I like that new color! and it does look so good with the ticking. You did a great job on the table and chairs! The legs on the table and chairs match so well!! Be safe and have a good week!
Christy says
Isn’t this blue so pretty? It isn’t the aqua that we love, but if aqua weren’t a thing, I would have this blue in our home for sure! Thanks, my friend! You too! XOXO
Zefi Famelis says
Absolutely gorgeous. Do you ship to a greek island? LOL
Christy says
Thank you, Zefi! Ha ha! XOXO
Rosie says
So cute!!
Love the two colour combination. Fitting for one who has a small space in their home weather it be in a kitchen or den.
Great job!
Christy says
Thank you, Rosie! Yes, it is ideal for any small space! XOXO
JANE NELSON says
As always, I love what you’ve done. One question – can Gator Hide be used over stained wood, or is it just for painted wood? Keep up the awesome projects!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Jane!! Yes! Gator Hide can be used over either. Just be sure your stain has had plenty of time to dry first! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
I love this adorable set! And the pin stripe seats are perfect. I need to pull out my smaller tent…I haven’t even used mine yet! I have the big one too and always go for that one…which is almost never too! But I am getting ready to paint some chairs (I think that’s all I ever use it for) and they are the worst…and why they always get sprayed! haha xo
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! This set is such a perfect example of the style I love…costal beach cottage! If I didn’t have aqua in our decor, this would be my next choice for sure. I hadn’t used my tent in ages…it is such a great size for smaller furniture though and so much easier to set up than the large one! Have fun with your chairs…can’t wait to see what you do with that set! XOXO
Judith Laurence says
Once more, you have made the perfect marriage of pieces. Your patience in saving the chairs is commendable because this set looks like it was made professionally! I am always impressed with your creativity, but the simpler the project the more versatile it seems to be. You definitely hit this one out of the park!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Judith! I was so excited to see that these chairs matched so well! It will make a sweet set for someone for sure! XOXO
