Amazing friends, I am so excited today because not only do I have a fun makeover for y’all, I also get to brag on my dear friend, Jen! You may know her from her blog, Girl in the Garage. We have been teaming up with our blog friends sharing furniture makeovers for several years now. I have also had the pleasure of meeting her in person, and she is just as sweet in person as she comes across on her blog! **Be on the lookout for an awesome GIVEAWAY she has put together at the bottom as well!
I’m bragging on her today because she wrote a book and not just any kind of book, but MY kind of book! It is gorgeous and filled with beautiful photos and step-by-step instructions for 25 brand new never-seen-before furniture makeovers! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
It’s called Amazing Furniture Makeovers: Easy DIY Projects to Transform Thrifted Finds into Beautiful Custom Pieces:
And it is amazing!
It officially goes on sale on June 4th, but you can pre-order HERE now! (It’s only around $15 on Amazon right now!) You can also find it at Book Depository HERE if you are outside the U.S.
BONUS: You’ll also get some fun pre-order gifts if you order before June 4th:
Visit HERE to claim your gifts after you pre-order! You’ll just need your confirmation number.
How cute is this dollhouse she created from a bookcase?
She shares exactly how she did it in her book.
And how about this awesome dresser made to look like stacked suitcases:
I love this makeover!!
Or this Frenchy beauty:
Perfection! Jen shares the before photos as well as each step of every makeover.
Today I’m drawing inspiration from this pretty stenciled dresser:
And here is what I’m using that inspiration on:
Yup. I’m telling y’all, it was hard finding inspiration for this one!
I found this chair for $6 at the thrift store a few years ago. Yes, this chair moved with us two years ago and has just been taking up space ever since. I finally gave up and decided to sell it at my yard sale:
Everything in that photo sold EXCEPT for the chair. Go figure. I had it priced at $5 and NO takers! Clearly, they weren’t inspired by it either!
So I added it to my yard sale rescue pile and here we are.
As soon as I saw that dresser in Jen’s book, I knew what I wanted to do with this sad chair!
And here is my take on her idea:
I didn’t use the exact same stencil that she did. I found this one HERE on Amazon.
But cute, no?
I used Dixie Belle’s Manatee Gray (Available in my shop HERE.) as the base. It is a little darker than these photos show. All the light brightens it up a bit. (The photo below is more accurate.)
Then I used my stencil and similar pouncers that Jen used to add the detail…
Then I sanded with 220 grit sandpaper to smooth everything out. This does wonders for the imperfections as well.
To seal I used Dixie Belle’s Satin Clear Coat and applied it with their applicator sponge. This worked great for getting in the tight spaces since I could squeeze the sponge in there.
I had a lot of fun with this one!
It could be great for a dorm or any small space that could use a folding chair.
What do you think? Isn’t it awesome to be inspired??
And now for that incredible giveaway I mentioned!

Wow, that turned out amazing. I love that chair now, I bet if you put that out in a garage sale now it would be sold in minutes. I hope who ever walked by that chair and didn’t buy it sees your transformation! Is this staying in your home or selling in your booth. I bet it doesn’t last long in your booth. Thanks to you and girl in the garage for the great inspiration, you are both totally amazing!

Cute, cute, cute chair! When you showed the picture of your yard sale I was thinking she should totally paint that chair instead of selling it and since it didn’t sell it worked out! I am really loving gray right now so this looks perfect to me and you had fun doing it, too! 🙂
Christy says
Thanks, Betty! Yep it was meant to be saved, and I’m so glad now that I got the chance! This really was fun to do! XOXO

ACK! I can’t believe you didn’t want to keep the chair! I LOVE finding those….and it doesn’t happen very often. For some reason, when I use the rafflecopter to pin, it does not allow me to “see it now” and get the url. As soon as I try to do that, it disappears and goes back to this page. I finally just went to my pinterest page and found it that way. LOVE the dresser where you got the inspiration. I have a couple of dressers to paint and I want to use this idea. Could really use the prize package. Thank you for such a generous offer!
Christy says
I know…I am so glad no one bought it ha ha! I’m glad you were able to figure out the rafflecopter…it can be tricky sometimes. And yes, I love Jen’s dresser…such a great inspiration piece! Good luck on the giveaway! XOXO

I have a ‘thing’ for deco chairs….. and I love your creation !!!!
Christy says
Thank you!! It was so fun to create! XO
Debbie says
This is adorable! And I actually have 2 (unlatching) wood folding chairs!
I have a question about the table you have the chair pictured with. What is the size of it and how would you describe it so I can hunt for one on Craigs list.
Christy says
Thank you, Debbie! I would call that table an antique writing table with turned legs. It is such a great size and I love it for staging! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Okay, what can you do with a wood chair, I thought. Ha! It really looks like something now! Great color, and the stencil is the perfect accent.
Congratulations to Jen on the book! I’ve been following the progress for a while and it’s exciting to see it in print.
Christy says
Right?? I am surprised at how cute it turned out myself! I am so excited for Jen as well…she is very talented! Good luck on the giveaway…it’s a good one! XOXO

Christy says
Thank you so much, Sue, I appreciate that!! XOXO
Robin says
Hi Christy, Did you use your spray gun? How did you get coverage between the seat slats? This is a very cute chair, but labor intensive, maybe?
Christy says
Thanks, Robin! I painted it by hand with a brush and it took me about 25 minutes for each coat. I probably could have given it only one, but I did two coats. It wasn’t labor intensive at all, and I really enjoyed being creative with it! If I don’t mention how I painted it, I used a brush. I’ll always tell ya’ll when I spray something. XOXO
Lizzy Leff says
Love it. It’s just perfect.
Christy says
Thank you, Lizzy! XOXO
Debbie says

Mary says
Christy, when are you going to write a book? I just pre-ordered GIG’s book and will be eagerly awaiting yours! You have so much talent (your “smalls” count big time) you really should spread-the-love with a book…..that might be a good title!
Christy says
I really should! I have thought about it. I appreciate the encouragement!! You are so sweet, thank you! XOXO
Jerri says
Once again you inspire me. I picked up 2 similar chairs from the curb last summer. I stared at them the other day, wondering how to paint them.????
P.S. I preordered the book and can’t wait for to come!
Christy says
Oh yay!! This was really fun to do! You’ll love the book…it has so many great ideas! XOXO

Christy, I love this chair, but you are the amazing “chair lady” in my book! I love every chair that you’ve ever “created”! I have a double set like your chair that I was going to sell, but maybe not now. Would be so cute on a porch! Your ideas always surprise me – in a very good way, of course! 🙂
Christy says
Wow thank you so much, Patty! You are so sweet!! A set of these would be fantastic on a porch! I hope you keep yours! XOXO
