Beautiful friends welcome back! I am so excited because today is Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday!! That means not only do I have a trashy makeover for you, so do four of my favorite blogger friends! Be sure to look for their projects at the bottom.
A few years ago we acquired a stack of furniture from my Hubby’s Grandma’s house (like this dresser and this dresser).
We also found two of these tables in the shed:
I painted one to use in my office to hold my printer, and the other has just been hanging out in my storage room. And do you know what else has just been hanging out in my storage room?
Brace yourselves…
ALL of this!!
Yes. I had ALL of this stashed in my storage room and there I was out thrifting for MORE stuff! Oh the shame!! I’m calling this my Storage Room Haul of Shame!
I had pulled a couple of things out to start a new pile to work on, and then I had plans to go yard saling this past Saturday to find a few more things. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t cooperating and so as I started to dig a little more, I knew I could pull a good pile together without even leaving the house! Now that really IS a shame, isn’t it?!
This is what my storage room looked like AFTER I pulled all that stuff out:
Still a hot mess! I’m sure I could pull together enough stuff to create another haul! I’m determined to get that room cleared out. Now some of these items I just forgot about, but others I have completely lost my motivation for. Now I will be forced to work through them!
When I was deciding what to work on for today, I chose this table because it is the most “trashed” item in the pile. Here’s a closer look at the top:
This is also the reason it took me so long to get to it. It appeared as though it was stained, then painted brown on top of the stain, and then the elements being stored in the shed didn’t help matters any.
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
A quick sanding with my sander and it actually all came off really easily:
The paint on the legs was intact, so they just got a good wipe down. I did find a split in the wood at the bottom that I had to repair with a little wood glue…
Pretty simple prep for such a tired looking piece to start!
Then I busted out my medium spray shelter and gave it a couple of coats of spray primer just in case bleed-through was an issue:
And of course, a little paint magic goes a long way!
So bright and fresh now!
I thought this would be a fun piece to try a new Dixie Belle color…Farmhouse Green!
Such a pretty color to welcome Summer, don’t you think?
I love the way white plays up the spindly legs so I stuck with Cotton for the legs.
The beautiful hydrangeas are from my sister’s yard. I went over Saturday and stole some. Oh how I miss mine from our old house!
I sanded all over with 220 grit sandpaper, a little more on the legs than the top. I sealed the legs with Dixie Belle’s clear wax and sealed the top with Gator Hide using Dixie Belle’s applicator sponge to apply.
Sweet and simple!
Don’t forget to see what my friends have done with their finds as well!
And that’s piece number one completed from the Storage Room ‘Haul’ of Shame!

I had two of those little tables in my storage. Imagine my surprise when I went there and my storage room was empty. They accidently sold it. I am still upset about it. The little table turned out beautifully.
Christy says
Aww such a shame! But hopefully, that has given you permission to go shopping! Thank you, Jody! XO
Petra says
Well, you certainly gave that one a completely new look 😀 It was a lovely surprise to see a soft green top (my fave colour is green) – super pretty! I absolutely adore it <3
Christy says
Thanks, Petra! This green is a break away from my favorite blue hues but I love it too! XOXO
Mary Kaiser says
You saved its life!! Grandma would be so proud, and I dare say that she would want it back now! It turned out beautiful. Wow you have a big stack this time, and I love watching you work through it. I think I have you beat though, my storage room is fuller that yours, LOL!! We need serious help, both of us!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! She would love it for sure! And ha ha…we just can’t pass up a good deal, can we? XOXO
Larissa ~ Prodigal Pieces says
Your storage room rocks! ???????????? I can’t do that anymore as it drives me crazy. Haha. I just adore your table makeover! Light, fresh, and airy. Bravo!
Christy says
I am so tired of those pieces sitting in there mocking me lol…I don’t want to do that anymore either! Thanks, Larissa! XOXO
Janice Lumbra says
You really do a fantastic job making over your furniture. Your house must be gorgeous and your husband , if you are married, must be VERY proud of you. You save him a ton of money and it looks far better than a furniture store! You are an inspiration!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Janice!! I need to show him your comment ha ha! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
Well girl, I just pulled out a similar table from the depths of my garage and decided to repair and paint. I sanded the nasty top and can’t decide if I should stain or paint— I love the green top on your table. It is so unexpected! I do have some reservations about buying more Gator Hide though. The label makes it sound so toxic and dangerous. I can’t wait to see what you do with the rest of the stuff!!
Christy says
Oh funny! I do love the green as well…and you can always wax the top or use the satin clear coat. I always work in my garage with the big door open and I never ever even noticed it had a smell to it! Have fun with yours! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says
What a great, fresh look for this table, you gave it new life! The green is so perky! Way to go with the haul from your storage room! I love that long bench!
Have a wonderful week!!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! I can’t believe I was able to pull so much stuff out of there…lots of pieces I had forgotten about. That bench was from one of my and Nancy’s thrifting trips! XOXO
Janice Holt says
Such a sweet table. Good job as usual. Was surprised to see the green but it works.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! The green is a fun change for me! XOXO
Denise V Cox says
Absolutely lovely! You may be right… a day trip may be in order! I just wish I had the room… ????. Maybe I could switch things around a bit? After all… that’s part of what decorating is all about… ????.
I so enjoy your blog and eagerly look forward to each one!! Thank – you for your contribution!!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Denise! And ha ha yes come on down! I appreciate your kind words so much! XOXO
Kathy says
I love the green top! Sooo pretty! I can’t wait to see what you do with that headboard. You ALWAYS inspire me! Oh, and I have a room just like your hall of shame! Keep sharing!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Kathy! I appreciate that so much! And It’s nice to know I’m not alone lol! XOXO
susan says
HAHA! I love it! You should see my garage! My husband calls it auctionitis ????. I’ve got a little table I’m going to use that beautiful green on! Will get it from you now. Big fan of yours and Artsy Chicks blogs!
Christy says
Oh ha ha! That’s funny! You’ll love this pretty green…it’s even prettier in person! XOXO
sharon austin says
LOVE how it turned out! It’s so summery and cute, AND a family heirloom, which makes it even better. 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Sharon! Absolutely! XOXO
Wendy says
Love that green color for the top of this table Christy. It really gives this table a beautiful
Spring/Summery look. Those Half Moon side tables were extremely popular in the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s when homes and apts were so much smaller and you just need a table by the sofa or front entrance. My grandmother also had a couple of these in her home. They have made a come back of late, and are very popular now even in modern homes.
Christy says
Thank you, Wendy! Yes, these tables are so versatile! XOXO
Josie Smith says
Hey now…no shame! 🙂 When you find a thrifty piece, you have to get it right there and then. We all know what happens if you dither with a decision…you lose out 🙂 I think a better term for the room should be “treasure room”…or “room of inspiration”. Keep up your creative masterpieces. We all love to see the results.
xo
Christy says
Ha ha exactly!! That’s why I just have to stop thrifting for a bit because I just can’t help myself lol! Thank you so much! XOXO
Denise Zdziennicki says
Super cute makeover! And I have to admit I’m secretly happy with your “haul of fame” storage room cuz I have one JUST like it…lol
Christy says
Thanks, sweet friend! And ha ha! I am determined to work through all this junk lol! XOXO
shelley says
Oh my gosh!
Perfect!
Just goes to show that even a tired little piece can end up beautiful! I bet grandma is looking down and smiling.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Shelley! I hope so! XOXO
Nancy says
My granny had a table like that too. I love how cute it looks now. The green is a nice color.
I want to shop in your storage room.????
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! And ha ha…I could set up shop in there with all the stuff I still have left! XOXO
Carole Larsen says
Such an adorable little table…you made magic happen.
Christy says
Aww thank you, Carole! XOXO
Linda says
I adore the new color! I hope you use it often. Another can do piece for us! Thank you.
Christy says
Thank you, Linda!! I love this new color too!! XOXO
Laura says
Christy, Did you prime “Grandma’s Side Table”? So there was no bleed through? And did you use two coats of paint on the top and the body of the tiny table? Just curious and thinking about my next projects…..
Christy says
Hi Laura…thank you…I totally forgot to mention the priming part! I added it to my post, but all I did was give it a good spray prime with Rustoleum spray primer and that did the trick! For the paint, I used two coats on the top and two coats on the body. 🙂 XOXO
Mary says
Hi Christy, the table looks great, I am glad you were able to save it, I love all the curves! Congrats on your new stash, it looks SO interesting, can’t wait to see what you do with the sewing cabinet, seems like there are a lot of those around. Wonderful post!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! The curves make it so sweet! I’m excited to be tackling all these items since I have held onto most of them for a while now. I actually had two sewing machine tables in my room…the other was beautifully refinished and that always makes me afraid to paint! XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says
You definitely saved that piece! I would not have thought possible!
Christy says
Thank you, Rose! It took me so long to tackle it because it looked so bad…luckily, it turned out to be a pretty quick redo! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Your Haul of Shame just cracks me up, Christy! I don’t know what it is about finding new stuff, even when you have plenty already – glad to know I’m not the only one!
I’m not surprised that you were able to make this old table look fresh and bright. Looking forward to seeing what you’ll do with the rest of this group.
Christy says
Yes!! You totally get it…it’s so nice to find fresh new pieces that inspire. Meanwhile what’s waiting at home looks less and less inspiring! Glad to finally be tackling these pieces! XOXO
Robyn Wright says
I LOVE this new way of doing your makeovers. Showing us a big batch of “befores”. Kinda keeps you motivated, too, by having to show us what’s coming up.
Christy says
I’m so happy you like this new way of sharing! It absolutely does help me too!! XOXO
Robin says
Oh my, the table evokes a breezy summery feel. Just wonderful. I, too, have a sewing table that I would like to tackle. My small stash of small items is in the basement on shelves. My hubby doesn’t know (lol). I can’t wait to see what you do to yours. Please give detailed instructions so that I can Copy YOU!!!!!.
Christy says
Thanks, Robin! My hubby has no idea what I bring home…I just keep stashing it in that room lol. And you know I will share all the details!! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Hi Christy! What a cute little table. You brought it back from the dead!! So cute. Are you saying all of that stuff was in that room?? How fun! That headboard! Oh My Gosh and that coffee table is screaming for help but it looks solid. Cant wait to see what you have in store for us. Love your blog.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Cheryl! Yes all of that came out of that room! Actually I had moved the headboard out to the garage a while ago to force me to work on it, but so much for that idea! Now I will have to lol! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
What a bright, fresh new look for that sweet little table! And I LOVE the name Haul of Shame hahaha! Perfect. Your room looks positively empty now. 😉 xoxo
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! Do you remember how full it was?? Ha ha haul of shame is right! XOXO
Naomi Shelton says
Christy, I like what you did with the little side table except for the color on the top. But that’s just because I am not a fan of yellow and that “green” looks way yellow to me. However, I really appreciate your tutorial on this piece because I have a little side table similar to yours that belonged to my grandparents and needs some rescue and up-dating. I’ve been wondering exactly how to tackle the job as I’m not an experienced furniture painter like you. Now I think I can manage it, especially the prep steps. It also has a stain and varnish finish.
So thanks for this project post. I know I’ll refer to it when I get ready to do my side table.
Christy says
Thanks, Naomi! I’m so glad you still found this helpful! After waiting so long to get started on it, it ended up being pretty quick and easy! Have fun with yours! XOXO
Jen @ Girl in the Garage says
So pretty, Christy! I love the fun fresh look it has now. xo (p.s. I just got an old sewing table too! Can’t wait to see yours.)
Christy says
Thanks, Jen! This is a new color for me, but I think I love it! XOXO
Nette says
So fresh looking! Love the lime green.
Christy says
Thank you, Nette! Fresh and perfect for Summer! XOXO
Marie says
Such a pretty makeover, Christy! Love the pretty green top.
Christy says
Thank you, Marie! I am loving this color for Summer! XOXO
Alison H says
I Looove the Spring Green!!! One of those rare colors that is tranquil and energizing at the same time…so, so lovely!!! ❤️. I want to thank you for all the humor and realism in your blog Christy. I’ve been feeling really down about my own hoard of unfinished diy projects and you’ve made me remember that “accumulating” is part and parcel of being an artistic person. You see the potential and that is a gift. Thank you for reminding and inspiring me when I need it most ????????????❤️Xoxo
Christy says
Thank you! Yes, such a great description…tranquil, yet energizing! And you are SO welcome! You are absolutely right…sometimes we need lots of options of what to work on to keep us inspired and motivated. I’m so happy to be a bright spot when you need it! XOXO
Julie Timmerman says
I get so much inspiration from your posts,so please keep them coming! I noticed when you pulled out your painting shelter that it has something in it? Is it a large lazy Susan? If it isn’t a lazy Susan what is it? We want to know because you always think of how to do it better or easier? So please put us out of our misery????
Christy says
Ha ha you are so funny! Yes, it is a huge lazy susan I found at the thrift store. I can’t take all the credit…my friend, Larissa from Prodigal Pieces was using one and I thought it was so smart! It is a game changer for sure!! It makes spraying things so much easier and quicker. Thank you, Julie!! XOXO
