Hello lovelies! Welcome to my favorite day of the month: Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday!! Not only do I have a trashy makeover for you, so do my friends…be sure to look for their projects at the bottom!
Do you decorate for Halloween? I totally get that it’s not for everyone, but I absolutely love decorating for Halloween! That’s okay if it’s not your thing…we can still be friends, right?
Today I have a spooktacular idea for these thrift store lamps:
I picked these three lamps up from the thrift store for $13. Two of them had been hanging around so long that they were half price, but I had a fun idea for them.
I knew they could make an interesting and unique set of candlesticks for our Halloween display!
Kind of cool in a gothic Halloween way, right?
I placed them here for now to take photos, but I will probably end up moving them…
I spent most of the weekend decorating for Halloween, and I can’t wait to share some of it. I don’t do blood and gore at all, just lots of skeletons mostly.
To turn these lamps into candlesticks, I needed something to attach to the lamps to hold the candles. I spied two of these candle holders on the same trip as I found the lamps:
These were perfect since one of the lamps had a similar piece on it already:
When I got home, I started taking my lamps apart…
There is a rod that runs all the way through the center of the lamps and you can rearrange the pieces as you like. I reworked mine so that I had a flat surface to add the candle holder to. Then I used E6000 glue to attach the candleholder.
Then I taped off what didn’t want painted on the red lamp:
My friend, Larissa from Prodigal Pieces, made a lazy susan for spray painting which I thought was genius, so when I saw this really large one at the thrift store, I grabbed it. (She is so smart!)
It made it super easy to spray paint everything:
Then I just added some candles!
I actually found these candles at the thrift store a couple of years ago still in the wrapping for $2 each.
This would be a great idea for creating unique candlesticks to use year round as well.
These ones had some pretty details that really stood out once I painted them:
I love the base of this one:
I might be fun to take all the pieces apart and just use what you like to create a whole new look and one-of-a-kind lamp!
Don’t forget my friends have Trash-to-Treasure makeovers of their own to share! Visit their projects at the links below:
{Lauren from Bless’er House and her family welcomed a brand new precious baby girl on October 4th, so she is taking a break from sharing amazing makeovers this month.}
I’ll be back on Thursday with a brand new THRIFTING VIDEO of me and Nancy! This was my haul from that shopping trip:
I’ll be sharing what I did with the mirror. Don’t worry, it will NOT be Halloween-related! You can see what I did with that sad lattice tote HERE if you missed it.
UPDATE: See how this mirror turned out, and check out our new video while you’re there HERE!
See ya then! 🙂
XO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

I think the green one would’ve looked really cool without being painted like the red one. OOH! Christmas! LOL!
Christy says
You know what…I bet you’re right! I didn’t even think to keep the green! XOXO
Debbie in TX says
Love the idea for the candlesticks! I was actually hoping you wouldn’t paint over the green one since it already had a cool creepy vibe happening, but they turned out terrific anyway! Maybe they would look great on the skeleton’s vanity and help light up his mirror. Looking forward to all the Halloween decoration photos!! XO
Christy says
Thanks, Debbie! Someone else just mentioned keeping the green one green and I never even thought to do that. I bet it would have looked great with all the Halloween decor! And yes I may end up moving them up to the vanity. Can’t wait to share it all! XOXO

You are too much, Christy. Those horrible, horrific, hideous lamps look great now! Who would have believed?
Christy says
Ha ha thanks, Marcie! I’m sure they were fabulous thanks in a past life, but yes they needed some help ha ha! Perfect for my spooky display! XOXO
Linda Petersen says
Very cool!! I see lamps like those at Goodwill & other thrift stores all the time & never thought about candlesticks! I can now see some done in silver & gold during Christmas & New Year. You are one clever cookie ❤.
Christy says
Thank you, Linda! Oh yes these could be gorgeous I in gold and silver and maybe even with a little glitter for the holidays? I love that idea! XOXO

Such a cool (spooky) makeover for those old lamps, Christy! I always see tons of those at thrift stores. And how lucky to find those candle holder pieces there too!

Christy says
Thank you so much, Kaycee!! XOXO
Petra says
I really like them – that fat green one looks the best – so interesting 🙂 I tried Rustoleum chalk paint last week on a desk for the first time, not the spray, the tin, and it was very nice to paint with, very similar to Annie Sloan’s paint 😀
Christy says
Thanks, Petra! These older lamps have such cool details. I haven’t tried Rustoleum chalk paint yet, but I have heard good things. Glad you had a good experience with it! XOXO
Sheila DelCharco says
I popped into a GW last week and saw three brass lamps that would look amazing as tall candlesticks. But I’m on a decluttering run so I didn’t get them. I don’t have a store to fill! Just a house to dejunk but these are so cute that I’m tempted to go back and get them!
Christy says
Oh ha ha! Go get them! 😀 XOXO
