Hello beautiful friends! The Thanksgiving holiday is over and Christmas is in full swing around here!
We got our tree on Friday. My hubby always wants a huge tree and I have to rein him in every year, but this time, I just let him go for it. I guess because he has been so good about me taking over the master bedroom, I was feeling generous.
Of course, he picked a huge one. We had to cut several inches off the bottom so it would fit in our house:
Our ceilings are nine feet! We decided to put it in the kitchen this year because it’s really the only place it would fit. I didn’t realize Miss Lyla was posing so nicely when I took this lol.
I spent all day Friday and Saturday decking the halls. I’ll be sharing some of it in the next couple of weeks. I’ve included a couple of affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
On Sunday, it was back to business in the bedroom! I am moving quickly in this space and only have a few details to finish, and I cannot wait to see it done!
Today I’m sharing some progress and a peek at some of the elements I found for this room, plus, I’m pulling out my favorite DIY ornament I made from an old sweater!
Let’s start with the bedroom!
The furniture is all completely painted. Here is my hubby’s dresser as I was painting:
Aren’t those hidden cubbies on the sides cool? They are meant for ties and belts and such. My hubby owns one tie and one belt lol.
It’s hard to get an idea of what the dressers look like without the drawers, but here is a peek at the hardware:
Were you expecting Champagne Mist??
I didn’t take too many photos as I was working since I was just trying to get it all done.
Because I saved thousands of dollars by painting our existing bedroom set, I decided I could splurge a little for a few new things to add to the space.
One of the things on my wishlist was a rug. I found this one at HomeGoods that was perfect:
I also wanted to replace the white sheers at our windows with something more substantial. I found these gorgeous DKNY curtain panels the same day I found the rug, but I needed three sets and at $69 a pair, I just couldn’t do it:
Aren’t they dreamy though?
I dragged my sister around with me on Sunday to look for something more in my price range, and we found these:
Only $30 a set…that’s more like it, plus I like the grommets because we like to close our curtains at night.
We also found these for the wall beside the bathroom at Tuesday Morning:
I’m not sure if they are clay, but that’s what they feel like and I just love the texture they add. I found six of them.
I also bought this at HomeGoods that I thought I could do something with:
I pulled this box from my stash:
I have a purpose in mind for it and I may use this as my Trash-to-Treasure Tuesday project for next week.
I also looked in a few places for a light fixture to replace the fan and found this one at The Home Depot:
I could paint the darker parts, or maybe the contrast would be nice? What do y’all think of this one? I’ve looked online and everything I’ve seen that I like is so expensive. This is the only one I’ve seen in person that I kind of liked.
And that is my master bedroom progress! I’m so excited about how it looks so far!
Now, here’s my favorite DIY ornament that I made several years ago!
This ornament is made from scraps of a sweater I used to make these sweater stockings:
These were in my Goodwill donation bag and I am so glad I hadn’t had a chance to drop them off yet! Not only did they become our family’s stockings, but I also turned the scraps into mini sweater mittens!
No knitting required here because they were made from sweaters!
Here’s how:
I simply made a pattern, cut out my mittens, placed the right sides together and ran a stitch all around the outside. (You could definitely hand-stitch these as well!) Then I turned them right side out.
I used fine fishing line and these beads I found at Hobby Lobby for $1.49 to join the mittens together.
The beads add a touch of sparkle to the textured mittens.
I cut these out of the sweater sleeves and used the finished edges for the wrist part.
I made another set, but I didn’t have any finished edges left from my sweater scraps, so I cut the wrist part a bit longer, then folded them over and sewed them to create a finished edge.
They still look just as cute:
I hope you enjoyed this sweet holiday craft and seeing the progress of our bedroom! I’m still trying to pull the decor together in there, and I’m also deciding on bedding, but I’m hoping to be back here on Thursday to share at least the completed bed.
See ya then! 🙂
UPDATE!! The bed is ready for its big reveal!! Click HERE to see it completed!

You go girl!! You are amazing! I love how when you decide to do something you just DO IT!!! I can’t wait to see the finished bedroom, I am sure it will be beautiful. I LOVE your little mitten ornaments, I have some scrap sweaters that I have been saving for something, and now thanks to MIGHTY CHRISTY I know what to do! Thanks once again for the inspiration! Your beautiful little kitten is getting so big!!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Mary!! Sometimes I have to go when the idea hits me, ya know? And I’m so glad I went for it! Yay…I hope you make some mitten ornaments with your scraps! And yes, Lyla is growing so fast! XOXO
Sheila DelCharco says
Ooo! How exciting! Can’t wait to see how it all comes together! Those mini mittens are adorable!!
Christy says
Thanks, Sheila! I am so excited to finish this room and share it! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says
Oh Christy, I’m loving the evolution of your bedroom. The light fixture is gorgeous and the price… wow… I’ve seen similar for three times the price. Love the rug also.
Lyla is so cute in front of the tree. 🙂
So much in this post, I instantly got lost in wonder. 🙂
Have a great week and stay warm!
Christy says
Yay! I’m so glad you are liking the room so far! I really like that light fixture too …wish there was a way I could see it in the room before I buy it lol. XOXO
Janice Holt says
You are making great progress on the bedroom. Looking so good. Love the light fixture and think the dark contrast would look good with the white. It’s going to be so pretty when you finish. Anxious to see what bedding you choose. What size are the mittens because I love them also. There is a youtube lady I follow called “White Sparrow Living” and she has such great style and does some cloches (think they are called) decorated for Christmas but it might give you some idea what to do with it.
Christy says
Thanks, Janice! I agree about the light fixture. I think the contrast will work well in the space. The mittens are small…maybe about 2” x 4” finished size. Yes, I have seen some really pretty cloches with scenes in them! I like that idea! XOXO
Phyllis says
I don’t know how you do so much so quickly. Loving the progress on the bedroom furniture and decor. Excited to see the complete de project. I have been looking for a light fixture for our bedroom forever but can’t seem to find what I want for a price I can live with. If I never see another boob light fixture, it will be too soon. Looking forward to see more progress and great to see Lyla.
Christy says
Thank you, Phyllis! I have a really hard time sitting still for very long, so I just keep moving! Ha ha boob lights are the worst! I had them all over my first house, and I actually picked them myself. Luckily, this one doesn’t have any! XOXO
freidia says
Love the chandelier just the way it is! You need a little dark/black to bring it all together : )
Christy says
I think so too, and I do have a couple of darker elements that might make it work like it is! XOXO
Lilly T says
I just want to say Thank you for being real!!! Love that you not only DIY but also are careful with your spending and down to earth. I find your blog helpful, enjoyable and budget minded. I can relate to you as you’re not buying $200 curtains and other items not everyone can afford or wants to spend that kind of money on. Keep up the great ideas and beautiful décor!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Lilly! Yes, I have a really hard time spending that kind of money knowing I can find something I like just as well for less! XOXO
Sandra Stone says
Really like your blog! Have been inspired by your creations and creativity! I even bought a 5 inch circular saw, don’t know what do with it yet, lol.
Christy says
Thank you, Sandra! I’m sure you’ll put that saw to good use one day!! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
WOW! you packed a lot of information in this post! The cloche on the wooden pedestal is lovely…I can see a little white wash on it 😉 and the mittens are so cute! You are moving along nicely on the bedroom! The largest town near me is 60 miles away that has any larger stores…but…I am headed there tomorrow and plan to swing through Home Goods! Can’t wait! Happy Holidays!!
Christy says
You know me so well!! I already took a brush to the cloche ha ha! I hope you found some goodies at HomeGoods!! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
I can’t wait to see your bedroom! It’s going to be so beautiful!! Loving all your choices for in there! xoxo
Christy says
Thank you!! Girl, it is looking so good!! I’m so pleased with it…that furniture has kept me from loving our bedroom for far too long! XOXO
Wendy says
The bedroom suite is looking great so far Christy. I really like the side openings on the armoire. Your right belts and ties LOL Although long jewelry chains, earring, ring and pin boxes would be awesome on the little shelves. Sort of a hiding place. No one if ever, (heaven forbid) you were burgled, would know they were there. 😉 I love the color of the handles. I was wondering if you could find a light fixture in that brushed nickle/pewter color ? Would really tie the suite in all together. Just a thought. So far everything is looking so awesome!
Christy says
Thank you, Wendy! I never thought to hide things in there in case of a break-in…great idea! Not that I have much to hide lol. I was just looking online today at a fixture that has that pewter color in it…I like that idea too! XOXO
Lorraine Castellon-Rowe says
Darling! Love the beaded detail holding them together. 😍
Christy says
Thanks, Lorraine! XO
Gloria Wyssbrod says
Can’t wait to see your bedroom furniture completed.
The mittens idea is cute.
Have you painted anything in the Antebellum Blue yet? I love that color and want to paint a piece of furniture. Gloria
Christy says
I can’t wait to share it, Gloria! I am so pleased with it! I ordered an 8oz jar of the Antebellum because I love it too but haven’t used it yet. It looks like a gorgeous color! XOXO
Tina says
I have been following you several years now. And in the post of doing your bedroom curtains? You said that 89 each pair wasn’t in your price range. I have to comment today on that. You make me feel good because it has been my way of decorating my home for 48 years. I have always decorated on a budget, and I’d see the tv shows, magazines etc. we’re thousands of dollars are spent to do there home. You have a way of making it real, for the folks like me who need to be on a budget. And not some low life because I didn’t put up 3000.00 designer curtains. Thank you for that, Keep the posts coming, I enjoy them so much. And your junk store posts??? Wish I was with you…….,Tina
Christy says
Well I am so glad you commented today, Tina! Thank you! There’s no need to spend crazy amounts of money to decorate your home. Those shows that do that drive me crazy too! You sound like my kind of gal! XOXO
Lauri Kunze says
Champagne Mist, yes!! I bought some on the recommendation of your friend Nancy, the artsy chick, and I love it so much. Love everything you’ve done with the MBR so far. Can’t wait to see the rest of your holiday decor.
Christy says
Oh cool! Yes, I love it too! Glad you like how it’s coming along!! XOXO
Kelly Schulte says
Thanks for all of the holiday inspiration. I’ve been so busy with projects for my booth that I haven’t even put up my tree yet. Eeek! 🤤
Also, don’t purchase the light fixture that you just kind of like.. it’s beautiful but you should wait and get something that YOU LOVE! xx
Christy says
Great advice, Kelly! Thank you! I hope you sell out in your booth this season!! XOXO
Mary Loveland says
I really like blackout curtains! They do a great job blocking sun/heat here in AZ and mine are holding up really well (machine washable also). Can’t wait to see your bedroom……keep looking at overhead lights; maybe something a bit more romantic/softer.
Do you think the mittens would hold up if you made them adult size and actually used them?
Great post. Thanks
Christy says
I hung the curtains yesterday and they were fantastic at keeping the room dark this morning! I didn’t even think about how they could help block the heat or keep out the cold. I’m still looking at lights…it’s hard to choose! As for the mittens, as long as you zigzag the seams, I don’t see why not? XOXO
Linda Charlton says
Isn’t it a shame that money always enters into what one really wants. Personally, I am tired of taking “almost” what I want. It is getting on my last nerve. lol You are so clever with your makeovers, though. Evereything you do is the best, not “almost”.
Christy says
Aww thank you, Linda! Wouldn’t it be great to just once, buy whatever you wanted for a space with no limits? I don’t know if it would be as satisfying though! XOXO
Addie says
LOVE the mimi mittens!!!! Soooo cute!!! I need a pair. Since we got 8″ of snow in Arizona! Can’t wait to see the reveal on the master bedroom. I can’t get over the fact that you started that project during the holidays.
Love your work ethic!!! Go Girl!!! I was thinking you would leave the tops the stained wood…but no? Also, since hubby doesn’t have too many ties or belts, one side of his dresser could be used for YOUR necklaces. don’t get me in trouble for saying that!!! XXOO
Christy says
Thanks, Addie!! What?? Arizona got 8”?? I am so excited to share it all…this is the first time I have been this happy with our bedroom in a very long time!! My hubby wouldn’t mind at all, but I would probably forget about them in there haha! XOXO
Terri Norkus says
Hi Christy: Adorable those mittens! You did it again fabulous holiday project. Best wishes on the bedroom. Yes I do like the light darker color of the chandelier think contrast would be nice. –Terri from snowy Cape Cod
Christy says
Thanks, Terri! I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! I agree about the chandelier. I do kind of like the idea of some contrast. Stay warm up there! XOXO
Eneida says
Hello Dear!
Went to your booth this past weekend and loved all your pieces. Had a lot of fun there!
Keep up the fun
Christy says
Oh yay!! I sold a couple of pieces this weekend, and I need to get up there to rearrange! XOXO
Debbie in TX says
The darker contrast of the light fixture for the bedroom could be nice, depending on what other dark elements are in the room. I like the fixture though.
Miss Lyla is going to have a time with that Christmas tree! Just be sure to use nonbreakable ornaments. Our cat used to knock ornaments off and chew on the lights. Miss Lyla is a little cutie!
Christy says
I agree with the light fixture adding some contrast. I’m on the hunt still, but I do like that one. Thanks for weighing in! Lyla was gong crazy trying to get to the lights the day we were decorating, but luckily she hasn’t messed with it much since. Our old cat used to climb the tree! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Christy! Your tree is humongous. I hope little Lyla stays out of it. Yikes! I love the light fixture. Get it! I’m so excited to see the bedroom reveal. You have great taste in everything and of course I am super excited to see what you do with that silverware box. 🙂
The mittens are super cute.
Your website is beautifully done. I think i have touched base on everything. I look forward to Thursday.
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! Our tree is really big for sure. I kind of love it though LOL. Miss Lyla has been staying away from it luckily. I’m thinking I might bring that fixture home and hold it up to see if I like it in the room. I really think it could work! See ya Thursday! XOXO
Jacki Gherardi says
Loving the bedroom so far. That rug is fabulous, the color scheme will be so inviting. Have you looked at Wayfair? I just installed this light for a friend and it is lovely, won’t break the bank either.
It’s the Hawkins 6-light drum chandelier, it looks so good in a bedroom.
Christy says
Thanks, Jacki! I didn’t think to check Wayfair… I will definitely check them out! It’s hard to pick a light fixture with so many options! XOXO
Pg Boszko says
The bedroom is going to be gorgeous…don’t tell me you sprayed the hardware in there…did you?
Christy says
Thank you! And no way haha…sprayed in the driveway outside. 😀 XOXO
Carole Larsen says
I really love all of your little mittens & stockings, that you make from sweaters. They are so sweet just like you.
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Carole! XOXO
Michelle says
Love the Rug! I got the same one 2 years ago at HomeGoods and it has held up well! Excited to see how it all comes together.
Christy says
Oh yay! Good to know! Thank you, Michelle! XOXO
Becky says
I can’t wait to see the finished results! Also, I LOVE it that you look for lower prices and don’t just blow the family fortune on your decorating! THAT is decorating that I relate to!!!
Your mitten ornaments are adorable!
Christy says
Thank you, Becky!! Well you know one thing about me and that is that I am cheap haha! I will always try to find the best deal, hence the reason I still have not settled on a light fixture! I think I was secretly hoping I would happen upon one that I could redo just in time for my big reveal. I think that’s asking a bit too much lol! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
You are one driven woman, Christy! I can’t believe you’ve done so much in such a short amount of time. I love the hidden panels on the dresser, I would have taken that one for myself and filled it with jewelry. The mittens are so cute, great idea for unwanted sweaters!
Christy says
Haha once I set out to do something, I am all in! It will be nice when I no longer have any rooms that need attention and I am almost there! If I had a lot of nice dangly necklaces, I probably would have taken up one of his secret panels, but then I would forget all about them lol! The mitten ornaments were a fun project! XOXO
Esther says
Oh my, those mittens are so sweet. Love, Love, Love them. I’ll try and make them with my grandies.
Christy says
Thank you, Esther! This would be such a sweet project to do with your grandies! 🙂 XOXO
Esther says
And (my second comment) you have inspired me to make my bedroom beautiful, instead of just a place where random furniture goes to die. I have a dresser from the 60’s, and one from the 90’s that looks like the 1900’s, a bed frame we bought two years ago and an old singer sewing machine table that the tv rests on. Come on!
Christy says
YAY! That made me chuckle…where random furniture goes to die haha! It’s true though. Most people don’t pay much mind to their bedrooms, but I am really loving having a pretty room to retreat to now! Best of luck with yours! XOXO
Judy Elliot says
What color of spray paint did you use for the hardware for the dresser?
Christy says
Hi Judy! I used Champagne Mist by Rustoleum. I found it a home Depot and you can find it here as well: https://amzn.to/364zv2T 🙂
Patty says
Christy, you are such a sweetheart!! I’m not the only one who appreciates it that you are “real” with us. I can’t help but love everything that you do and I’m so looking forward to your “finished” bedroom (if we can ever really call a room finished. 🙂 Getting ready for a bedroom makeover – paint choices are just so hard!! Love seeing sweet little Lyla and how she is growing. One of my first cats climbed our Christmas trees and one was happy just to lay under it! You are so blessed to have a husband who lets you be “you” (I have one, too) and appreciates all that you do to make your home beautiful and that you keep a budget in mind while doing so. Such sweet little mittens, too. A project that I will try. XO
Christy says
Aww you are the sweetest, Patty, thank you! It really is hard making those color decisions! Our last kitty also liked to climb the tree…luckily, Lyla isn’t too intrigued by the tree. And yes, my hubby is so good at letting me have free reign in our home, and for that, I am very thankful! Sounds like you are lucky that way too! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! XOXO
