Hey there beautiful friends! I hope those in the U.S. enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday. Did anyone go crazy on Black Friday? The only store I ventured out to was Michaels to buy some new garland for the railings on my porch, but that was it! I did order a trampoline online at Toys R Us and a rug for my dining room though to take advantage of the sales.
Today I am sharing how I was able to use these beautiful frames I found at the thrift store to create artwork for our dining room walls:
I loved these frames immediately when I saw them, and figured they would at the very least, make great chalkboards for my booth. They were $8 a piece, but I knew I would make that back.
When I was searching for something to hang on the walls in our dining room, I spied this set of floral prints at HomeGoods:
They are just canvas wrapped around simple wood frames. I loved them, but they weren’t exactly what I wanted for the walls in there, so I stuck them in the corner.
I really wanted to be able to incorporate some of these gold mirrors and frames I had been stashing:
But no matter how I laid them out, they just weren’t working out. Then I spied those pretty gold frames…they were just the right size…if only the artwork in them wasn’t so ugly.
Then I had an aha moment! What if I put those prints I found at HomeGoods in the pretty gold frames??
Crossing my fingers they were going to be fabulous, I started removing the staples that were holding the canvas to the wood frames:
No going back now…then I got all super professional and duct taped the heck out of them around the glass from the original pictures:
Then I just stuck them back in the frames, and voila! Perfect art pieces for our new dining room!
I do believe they turned out kinda fabulous. Don’t they look like pretty paintings?
You can see I added a few smaller gold pieces from my thrifty gold stash…
I’ll just give you peeks of this room for now since I have yet to paint the remaining five chairs to my dining set.
This set of three gold pictures is one of my favorite thrift store finds ever:
I shared them in our Make it New Facebook Group (click HERE to join.) a couple of weeks ago, and at the time thought I had paid $3 a piece for them, but when I pulled them out again, I actually only paid $1.98 each for them! They appeared at first glance to be French prints, but on further inspection, they are actually hand painted on large white tiles.
Look at those amazing tiny details!
I really did not want to paint these frames since I love the look of them, so I knew I wanted to stay with the gold hues for this wall so I could keep them as is.
I really love the details on these pretty gold frames as well…
And you may be wondering if there was a seam that showed on the canvas from where it was stapled around the original wood frame…I was concerned about that as well, but you can really only see it if you are looking at it from this angle:
See it along the top of the print? So I didn’t even worry about it!
Now just to find a few more hours in the day to get those dining chairs painted! I’d love to get them done so I can decorate this room for Christmas.
The prints from HomeGoods were $24.99 for the set, so these pieces of “art” cost me around $20 each. If you’ve got some pretty frames but are tired of looking at what is in them, this is a great way to get some new art without spending a ton of money! I’ve seen art sold like this in several places, so it should be easy to find something you like.

The pictures are perfect for your dining room! There are usually lots of nice frames at the charity shops. Love your “professional duct tape”. My husband was a construction worker and he says you can fix just about anything with duct tape.

Thanks, Donna! Oh absolutely…always keep a roll of duct tape in the tool box! XOXO

Thank you, Linda! I have just had this thing for gold lately ha ha… I’m not sure if it will spill over into the rest of the house, but I’m glad I could use it in this room for now! XOXO

Well done, Christy! Much brighter than the iris prints. Nope, didn’t even think about the fold marks on the canvas. Only noticed it once you pointed it out. As for the tragic framed picture at the bottom of the post, I would have kept walking. That was another beautiful transformation.
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie! I’m so happy this little project worked out, and now that I actually have an office, I wish I would have kept that bulletin board! Oh well… Oh and I noticed when I was viewing some comments from my last post, I spelled your name wrong in the response. I’m so sorry about that. I was answering comments from my phone and that darn spellcheck gets me every time! XOXO

AGH! I wish I had thought of that when I had the perfect artwork for my bathroom but the canvas frame was too thick. I ended up returning it. I might have to go see if it’s still there. Thank you for the idea and they are truly gorgeous!
Christy says
Thanks, Robyn, and you’re welcome! I hope it is still there! XOXO
