Amazing Friends, I finally finished the little table and chair set I brought home from my booth to redo! That set has been in my booth for well over a year and I just could not figure out why it hadn’t sold.
Here it is as I found it:
I found the chairs for only $5 for the pair at one thrift store, then a few months later, I found the table to complete the set at another. Lucky, huh?
Here is a peek at their first redo:
You can see the whole first makeover HERE.
I just loved how it turned out but it just sat and sat in my booth. Finally I decided to bring the set home and give it a redo. I started by sanding to smooth away the graphics I had added. Then I went to pick up one of the chairs by the top and realized it was broken! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
No wonder it hadn’t sold!
I had already started to sand the top of the table with my orbital sander, so I continued sanding the top smooth and then painted over it with a navy blue I had on hand. Unfortunately you could still see the impression of the Eiffel Tower though the paint.
I had no choice but to remove all the paint on the top. To do so, I applied my favorite paint stripper, Citristrip (No harsh fumes and can actually be used indoors!), then covered it with Saran Wrap to keep it moist. After letting it sit for about three hours, I used a plastic putty knife to remove the old paint:
Follow the instructions on the label for use and clean-up. I cleaned any remaining residue with mineral spirits when I was finished, but still had a few areas that needed attention. I decided to just sand the whole thing lightly one more time:
Because I took it down to the bare wood, I decided to white-wash the top surface this time. I started by applying this weathered wood product:
UPDATE: I’ve since switched to VooDoo gel stain in UP in Smoke to get this look.
Clearly I hadn’t removed all of the old stain because it looked like a hot mess, but after playing with the white-wash finish a bit, I got a pretty nice result:
You can see step-by-step how I got this look in my pedestal kitchen table makeover HERE. It basically involves watered down paint and a rag.
I won’t keep y’all in suspense any longer…here is what this set looks like now:
I decided to go more masculine since all of those sets I’ve done have sold right away.
I used a whale I found in the Silhouette Design Store HERE for this one. I used it on another set in the past HERE.
I love how it turned out, and the whale is just so cute!
To add it to the top, I cut out a “stencil” using my Silhouette Cameo and some transparent contact paper:
Then I filled it in with Behr’s Inked in a Satin finish:
I gave it two coats. After removing the stencil, it still looked like it needed something more, so I used my trusty FrogTape to add a couple of stripes:
It’s hard to tell in the photo, but to create a slight gap in between the blue circle and the stripes, I cut the middle part of the “stencil” in two and applied it to the table just below the bottom of the circle and just above the top of the circle. You can see the separation below:
I am thrilled that this set has a new life now! Oh and a fixed chair!
I just gave the chair seats a coat of the blue paint and kept it simple.
The legs of the chairs and table were all originally spray primed and painted and were all still in perfect shape.
I love the white-washed look for this table!
I am so happy to have this little set done! Here’s hoping this one won’t last long in my booth this time!
I’ll be back on Tuesday with my Trash-to-Treasure girls sharing what I did with this trash:
I grabbed these wood scraps before my hubby could chuck them, and I was able to create something super functional with them! 🙂
UPDATE!! See the project I created using this pile of scrap wood HERE now!
Have a fantastic weekend!

Wow, that turned out amazing! Well first of all the pink was so cute, I can’t believe that it didn’t sell. As cute as it was in pink, I really like it now much better. It won’t last long in your store now! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the scrap wood pile, I have a ton of scrap wood I could use some inspiration for.
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I liked the pink too, but like it much more now as well. That scrap wood filled a big need around here and came at just the right time! See ya Tuesday…have a great weekend! XOXO

Super cute makeover Christy! This set isn’t going to last long in your shop. I bet you felt super shocked about the broken part. Love the spikey haired lion on the chair. 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! I was so surprised it was broken and now I’m wondering if it was always that way and I just didn’t notice? Glad it is fixed now! XOXO

Christy,
So cute – I loved it in pink, but this one could be used for either a boy or girl, so I can’t imagine that it won’t sell quickly! You have such creative visions for furniture! Thanks for all the great tips that you give us.
Christy says
Thank you, Patty! It is my pleasure to share! And yep this sure could work for a girl or a boy. XOXO

Wow, what a beautiful transformation. The other was nice but this just pops when your eye catches it. Another great redo and a lucky child who receives it.

Such a crisp and bright makeover! Even though I adored the Frenchy design, this time it’s not going to hang around the booth long.

Both ways looked great! But what caught my eye was the way it looked against the stone wall you did…I’m loving it more.
Christy says
Thanks, Barbara! It is fantastic having my stone wall to use as a backdrop! XOXO
Marie says
Well that would explain why that super cute pink set didn’t sell. I loved that makeover! The remakeover is super cute too and I’m sure it’ll be gone in no time 🙂
Christy says
Right?? That makes more sense now…but it was fun to give it a whole new look too! Thanks, Marie! XOXO

A beautiful transformation, I can not understand why it was not sold before when it was pink, really both styles were beautiful each one in its style, I loved both !! … surely this time if you sell it. fabulous all your transformations to this furniture.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Karine! I was sad to have to redo it, but I had fun with makeover #2! 🙂 XO
Becky says
I love this! The pink was cute, but as a mom of 7 boys, I can tell you there is too much girly stuff out there!!! : D We’ve had somethings that we had to go for the pink on (and convince the boys that it’s OK!), but when I find an item that’s usually aimed at girls done in neutral/boy?… it’s celebration time!!! : ) This set is SUPER cute now!
Christy says
Seven boys?? Girl, you are one busy mama!! And I totally agree…there are always cute things for girls, but rarely cute things for boys. That’s probably why they sell so much quicker when I designed them with little boys in mind! Thanks, Becky! Oh and by the way, any girls? XOXO
Diana Hatmaker says
Where in Virginia Beach is your store? I am going there in the fall and will for sure make it one of my stops!
Christy says
Hi Diana! We are located at 3900 Bonnie Road, near the town center of Virginia Beach in the Virginia Beach Antique Mall. I hope you get a chance to visit! 🙂
Julie Briones says
I thought I recognized the whale stencil. Loved it then, love it now! I loved the pink version… I’m sure it didn’t sell because of the break… the finish was lovely!
Christy says
Thanks, Julie! Hoping for a quick sale now! XOXO
