Hello lovelies!! I’m back today with a quickie makeover for y’all from my Biggest Thrifty Haul of them all. I also have some Dixie Belle news at the bottom!
I picked up this funky little table at the thrift store for $19.95 a couple of years ago:
I’ve been using it in my storage room to hold a lamp since there is no overhead lighting in there. I had almost forgotten about it! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
I thought it would be a great candidate to try out a new-to-me color.
How about Kudzu??
I’m not much of a green person usually, even though as a child, green was my most favorite color in the whole world (I had a green fern bedspread to prove it!), but this particular green is a good seller for me, so I wanted to give it a try!
I gave it two coats and when it was dry, I decided to add just a hint of something with a sweet mini transfer:
This one is from a set of mini transfers called Classic Vintage Labels by Re-designed by Prima. If you search that name on Etsy, you’ll find several retailers that have them.
I then sanded lightly all over with 220 grit sandpaper wrapped around an old sanding sponge:
Finally, I sealed with Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in satin using their blue sponge applicator:
The sponge makes it super easy to get around all those curved parts. Just be sure to not let the clear coat pool anywhere as those areas will yellow. If that happens, just touch up with paint and reseal.
I love how this color looks on this sweet side table!
The tiny transfer adds just a hint of charm…
Isn’t this green lovely up close??
I also added a bee to the top…
Exciting Dixie Belle news and necessary business
Now for some exciting news and necessary business! For those of you who may be new around here, I’m a Premier Dixie Belle Retailer selling both in my booth here in Virginia Beach and in my Etsy shop online.
I’ll share the necessary business first, and then the exciting news!
According to Dixie Belle, the raw materials, plastics, and packaging materials have all increased 8-9% as a result of COVID. To cover these increased costs, they will be raising the prices on some of their items.
These changes will take effect on January 1st. Dixie Belle will still be priced below the competition! I wanted to share ahead of time in case there is anything you want to buy before the increase.
Here are the products that will be affected:
- Paint
- Patina collection
- White Lightning
- Slick Stick
- No Pain Gel Stain
- Easy Spray Wax
- Gator Hide
- Boss
Although we are allowed to price as high as we want to help cover operating costs, I will always price as low as I am allowed and will still continue to offer FREE shipping on all orders over $50 in my Etsy shop. (All other orders are $8 flat rate shipping.) I ship USPS Priority Mail and same day or next business day in most cases.
Now for exciting news!
Gilding waxes are finally back! They just went on sale today, and I placed my order first thing, so I expect to have them in stock very soon!
Be on the lookout for those in my shop if you have been waiting for them! They are also coming out with a new line of Silk Screen Stencils that I have also ordered that I am super excited about!
And in January, Dixie Belle is releasing an entirely new line of paint called Silk All-in-One Mineral Paint:
I will be carrying the full line in both my Etsy shop and in my booth.
This paint is different in that it’s not so much for those that like a distressed look, which the chalk-mineral paint is perfect for, but more for those who prefer a clean, crisp look.
It is a one step paint that has a primer, paint, and sealer in one, so although I am partial to a distressed look, I am really excited to give it a try! Maybe on our bathroom cabinets??
That is all the Dixie Belle news I have for today.
And, I am thrilled to cross another project off the list!!
Woot woot!

Mary Kaiser says
Wow, first of all I LOVE the table, and the color of the table. The transfers make it so sweet! Second, I will have to go and order the stuff I have in my cart before the price increase, I have had it there since you were doing your give away (just in case I won-lol) I appreciate the heads up on that. It is very exciting that Dixie Bell has a new paint line coming out, and such great colors from what I see. That is certainly exciting news since I am not typically one who does distressing on the pieces I paint! I will be looking for dates for that to roll out!
Christy says
Yay thank you, Mary! I don’t usually do greens, but I love this one! Yes, order soon so you get the best price. And I am so excited about the new paint! I’ll be sure to update in a post when they are in stock! Have an amazing day, my friend! XOXO
Pam Walsh says
Love the new color!!! Perfect for any room or on a porch too!
Christy says
Thank you, Pam! It would be perfect on porch! XOXO
Ann says
Kudzu is by far my favorite Dixie Belle color!
It reminds me of a true 1940-50’s green.
Actually, just painted some ornaments with it yesterday.😊
Christy says
I sell it really well and have been wanting to try it…it is the perfect green! I can see why it’s your favorite…perfect for ornaments! XOXO
Denise Cox says
I have never liked the color green!! That being said, the market is now coming out with some lovely shades of green, especially shades of soft sage. I’m still not sure about this one, but I seem to prefer the ‘close up’ pics more than the ones further away. Sounds odd, I know. But, in my eye, the color appears more ‘mint’ shade, close up, than whatever the original color is supposed to be…?
Christy says
I know exactly what you mean…the up close shots really capture the color perfectly! That is the true color…it appears cooler in the shots that were further away. I’m looking at green in a new way these days! XOXO
Christina says
Oh Christy, this turned out so cute. It’s a very soothing green. The transfers are adorable.
Good to know about the price increase and so understandable. Sweet of you to hold your prices as low as possible. I can’t wait to see what you do with the new silk paint!
You, and your family, be safe as well. Have a wonderful weekend!!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! It is such a lovely shade of green! I am super excited about the new Silk! Stay safe and enjoy your weekend too!! XOXO
Val says
Hallo Christy, a simple makeover but very effective! love it !!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Val! XOXO
Sue H Mellette says
The color fits the design perfectly, in my opinion, and the small transfer sets it off. I think this table should sell quickly! Good news about the new paint line and the gilding wax. Thanks as always for sharing your talents with us and keeping us up-to-date with Dixie Belle Paints! Have a great weekend.
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! I couldn’t imagine it in any other color for some reason. Hoping for a quick sale! And yes, super excited about the new paint and wax! Enjoy your weekend too, my friend! XOXO
Rebecca - TN says
I have a jar of Kudzu I bought with intentions of painting an old art deco hoosier that I can see was previously green but have waffled on my decision. Your table is pretty and appears a softer green than I expected. Your project gives me inspiration to try the Kudzu on something.
Christy says
Oh awesome! The close up photos really show the true color. It appears cooler in the far away photos for some reason, but it is warmer in person…just lovely! XOXO
Cecilia says
Ooo, I was right! You used green. It’s very pretty too. I have a small cabinet that’s going to go into my studio bathroom when it gets built…I was going to wait to get paint then but maybe I should decide on a color and order it. Hmm, but then there’s the new line coming out… lol decisions, decisions!
😊Cecilia
Christy says
Good guess, Cecilia! I have been wanting to try this color on something! And sorry to offer other possibilities ha ha! They are both very different…one for a perfect distressed look and the other for a clean look. Have a fantastic weekend! XOXO
Michelle says
Happy Thursday Christy! I am so excited to hear about the new mesh stencils! I was literally on the verge of ordering several from a DB competitor. I can’t wait to see what you have to offer and I am sure you’ll be doing a tutorial on how to use them as well! By the way, LOVE the green!
Christy says
Thank you, Michelle! I am really excited about the stencils too! I should have them in stock early this coming week since they shipped out today woohoo! And yes, isn’t this a lovely green? It was fun to use a different color for a change! XOXO
Joanne Dibelius says
I LOVE this green. I have a vintage round wicker table that I use outside under our deck during the summer and have painted it different shades of green over time. Your eye is amazing for bringing a ho-hum piece into a breath-taking “new” treasure.
Christy says
I appreciate that so much, Joanne! Thank you! This is a fantastic green and I know it would be perfect in an outdoor space! XOXO
Becky says
How cute! I love the tiny transfers!
Christy says
Thank you, Becky! XOXO
Kathy M says
Hi Christy,
The little table is truly transformed! I absolutely love it! I love green! I think it’s especially wonderful next to something white. I thought Kudzu looked like it has yellow undertones in the first picture but perhaps blue in the rest of the pictures. It’s hard to get an accurate idea of a color on a computer monitor, but which picture would you say is the most accurate representation?
I’ve been trying to figure out the best topcoat for a finish on this kind of paint. I actually like the look of chalk paint but by the time I finish with a wax finish, it’s too shiny and completely takes away the chalk paint look. What kind of a Dixie Belle top coat would you recommend?
Thanks for any input you can share.
Christy says
Thank you, Kathy! I love this green! It is more warm in color like in the close up photos. The far away photos make it appear a bit cooler than it is. My favorite topcoat is DB’s Clear Coat in Satin. It has a subtle sheen to it. If you prefer a more matte finish, the clear coat comes in flat also! XOXO
Kathy M says
Thank you Christy. That’s very helpful. 🙂
Christy says
You’re welcome! XO
Kim Dooley says
Christy,
I look forward to seeing what you do with the new colors, especially the Hampton Olive. As far as the green goes I love it. I think we are going to be seeing a lot of greens in the future, maybe the new go to color. Love your blog. Never miss it. Thanks for sharing ! Kim
Christy says
Thank you so much, Kim! I am so excited about the new colors! And I agree…I think we will be seeing a lot more greens in the future! XOXO
Rosie says
I am not too much of a fan of green but this one is actually lovely. It turned out sweet! Thanks for sharing 🤗
Christy says
I feel the same about green, but I really loved this one too! Thanks, Rosie! XOXO
Denise - Salvaged Inspirations says
This turned out so stink’n cute Christy! I’m a huge fan of Kudzu green and can’t wait to try the Silk line! 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, my beautiful friend! I love this color and will definitely use it again! I too can’t wait to try the new Silk…you’ll probably get it before me if you haven’t already! Dixie Belle always keeps it fresh! XOXO
Michele M. says
That is a gorgeous color of green. Green is my very favorite color and one I am seeing more and more. Not a surprise green sells well for you!
As for all the new paint coming soon in your Etsy shop, WOW! Sounds perfect for cabinets!!!!! Whoot, indeed!
Christy says
I don’t usually go for greens, but this is really lovely for sure! I will definitely use it again in the future! And yes…I am so excited for the new paint!! XOXO
Jenni Floyd says
Ooh! I’m excited for the new line of paint! Did I miss it or was there info on the sheen of the paint? I am exceptionally partial to a satin finish.
Christy says
Me too!! I didn’t mention the sheen, but I believe it will have a subtle satin sheen. XOXO
Heidy says
Beautiful! At first glance I saw lime green but the final look, so pretty and more like a jungle green. Gorgeous color and I love the transfer, so perfect. You are amazing!
❤️Heidy
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Heidy! Yes, it is a really lovely green! XOXO
Leah says
Christy,
I’m really getting hooked on all of your creative ideas. They help me to think outside the box. I’m attempting to repaint a wicker lamp. Yay.
What are gilding waxes used for and do you know what finish the new colors will be for example glossy or matte?
Christy says
Oh yay! I love that! The gilding waxes are fantastic for highlighting details like raised moldings. It is also great for giving pulls and knobs a new look. The new Silk line will have a subtle satin sheen. XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Hi Christy!! I haven’t tried Kudzo yet. Everything you paint looks good though. Love that little bee. I have tried Palmetto and I love that one. Lete know how fast it sells
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! I need to try Palmetto too! Hoping this sells quickly so I can use it again! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Dale says
So if you use the new paint coming out, you don’t have to have any sort of sealer??
Christy says
Hi Dale! From what I hear so far, no. This paint has a slight sheen to it, which I assume that much like a satin paint, it has the ability to be easily wiped clean. Can’t wait to see it for myself! XO
Petra says
I’m a bit late in commenting on this (I’ve been moving from Australia back to New Zealand) but I wanted to say how much I love this little piece – the colour is AMAZING 😀 (I like the little transfer too) and I hope to see you do other little bits and pieces in this colour 🙂 Just love it! xo
Christy says
Thanks so much, Petra! I will definitely be using this again in the future…I just love it! I hope your move was a smooth one! XOXO
