Hello beautiful friends!! Now that my sister’s kitchen is done and her table and chairs are complete, it’s time to get back to my favorite of all…thrift store makeovers!!
Back in November, I took y’all on a thrift store field trip to see what I could find for my next big haul. You might want to revisit that trip HERE first because today, I’m going to share what came home with me!
I saw a ton of goodies, but I’m cheap so not everything made it to the checkout. Here is what I brought home!
The first thing I found was this Bombay table on my first stop at the Goodwill closest to our house:
Ya’ll know for 50% off of $15.25 that I wasn’t leaving without this one! All this needs is a simple paint job.
I didn’t share this lamp in that post, but you may have seen it in my cart. It was $5.25:
I love lamps for my booth because they add nice soft lighting and they usually sell well for me.
I showed y’all this lamp, but didn’t buy it that day. I did, however pick it up on my next trip in:
It was still there and half off of $5.25, I really should have grabbed it on the first stop.
I also bought this tray for $3.25:
I rarely pass up a wooden tray!
And I picked up this wooden box for $5.25 on that same trip:
Remember what else I found on that trip?? My Meowy Catmas sweater! I sure did rock that thang at our annual Christmas Eve family gathering:
One of the cats looked just like Lyla! Haha!
That was a great start, but I wasn’t so lucky at the next stop, the DAV on my side of town. I did spy this night table just as I was leaving:
It was $27 and I thought I could pair with these $12 headboards that I redid with transfers. They both sold already though!
I made my way to one of my favorite thrift stores next where I spied a couple of gorgeous dressers for $99 each, and I know that is not a ton of money for a dresser, but I decided to pass on them and left empty-handed.
The next stop was the Salvation Army across the street and I found several pieces there, but a couple needed too much work and some were just more than I wanted to pay, but I did buy this petite secretary for $34:
Remember it had unmentionables hidden inside at the thrift store?
It needs a little tightening here and there, but I think it could be a really sweet piece!
I also bought this cookbook holder there:
I have bought a few of these…they are easy sellers, so I decided to buy this one too for $3.99.
Next, I headed to another thrift store by my Mom’s house that usually is lucky for me. I shared a couple of things I saw at that store, but I only ended up buying this flatware chest:
Ya’ll knew I would buy that, I’m sure! (And because I told you I was buying it!) I especially love them when they have a drawer. It was $5.
The next day, my sister was feeling generous since I had been helping her with her kitchen and she offered to come thrifting with me! I saw some great pieces there as well, including several chairs, but only this one for $15 made it home with me:
I love the style of it.
Also remember this huge mirror?
Unfortunately, the wind blew it over and the frame cracked…
I told y’all it was windy at our house! I am hoping it will be an easy fix. For around $28 after my sister’s military discount, I thought it was worth getting for the size of it.
Then just before Christmas, I shared this picture on my Facebook page:
I was supposed to be Christmas shopping, but I couldn’t resist sneaking in a thrift store stop and found this beauty for a steal at $25:
Now that is in my price range! It has some veneer damage on the drawer, but that can easily be remedied. I can’t wait to tackle this one!
And just last week, I stopped back in at the DAV on our side of town and came home with a carful:
I found this desk for $35:
I also found this huge round tray:
I think it was around $5…I’ll have to see if the price is still on the bottom. It is already pretty cute, but I think it still has some hidden potential.
I also found this tray with a weave look to the bottom for $4.95:
This probably just needs a simple paint job too. Trays always sell quickly for me, so I rarely pass them up!
I also picked up this interesting case for $4.25:
It held a gift set at one time:
And finally, as I was pulling around the back to load up my desk, I spied these night tables that had just been dropped off:
Mama want!! I told the guy I was interested and he said, “How does $10 each sound?” SOLD!! I’m sure they would have been much more had they made it to the sales floor. I actually redid a set very similar to this that I found at an estate sale several years ago:
You can see how they turned out HERE!
And finally, this lone oar:
My in-laws were getting rid of several things at a flea market a few years ago, and I nabbed this oar. I finally grabbed it and shoved it in with this haul to get it out of my storage room!
And that is my new Winter haul!! Hopefully I can get it all done before Winter ends!
Beginning in January of last year, I started working through thrifty hauls one by one, crossing items off as I went. I love this way of keeping myself accountable and plan to do the same this year, and I can’t wait to get started!
But before I start on my new haul, I have one more piece I will be sharing. This is a cabinet I worked on this week for one of my dearest friends:
I may as well share it since it’s a makeover too, right? Actually, I would have included it in the photo with my newest haul, but there wasn’t enough room!
UPDATE: See how this huge cabinet looks now HERE!!
I’ll be back with this piece on Tuesday, and then I’ll be back on Thursday with my Furniture Fixer Upper girls sharing a furniture piece from this haul! Anything you’d like to see tackled first??
Have a great weekend!!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

WOW! What a haul along with some great prices. You end up finding the coolest items.
Sorry to see what happened to the mirror tho but maybe it will be an easy fix.
I had bought me one of them cookbook stands and decided to spray paint my red
Can’t wait to see your make-overs .
Love the design of that chair. That is really neat.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful haul.
Have fun and enjoy your week
Christy says
Thanks, Colleen! I did find some goodies for sure! I’m hoping the mirror will be an easy fix also…fingers crossed. Glad you enjoyed it…have a great weekend! XOXO
Mary Kaiser says
I am so excited that you have a new haul to work thru, I know there are going to be some great transformations in that haul. Looking forward to seeing what you do to all of it!!
Christy says
I am SO excited too, Mary!! Can’t wait to dive in! XOXO
Margie says
Looking forward to see what you do with this haul. It’s kind of like opening a present when you reveal one.
Christy says
Aww I love that analogy!! Thank you, Margie! XOXO
Jacqueline Luetschwager says
Wow you found some awesome pieces!
Christy says
Yes!! I can’t wait to get started! XOXO
Betty Bilnoski says
I can’t wait to see what you do with that brass and crystal lamp. As I mentioned to you after you bought it, 17 years ago we inherited a pair of lamps just like it along with a French Provincial bedroom set. They’re sentimental to me but the lamps and furniture could definitely use a makeover. I’m hoping this is the year to get it all done.
Christy says
I will have to rewire the lamp since it has dated wiring. That is mainly the reason I left it behind the first time, but I just love it, so I’m excited to give it new life! Sounds like you have a fun project ahead of you! XOXO
Betty Bilnoski says
Our lamps probably have the original wiring, which is working. But maybe I can convince my Hubby to rewire them.
Christy says
If I were keeping it, I might not switch it out, only because I’ll likely be selling it. 🙂
Christina in SW FL says
Mother of hauls!!! Wow, you got some great stuff!! (Love your shopping videos too!) I can’t wait to see what you do with these. 🙂
Also love your sweater. 🙂
Have a great rest of the week and weekend!!
Christy says
Thanks, Christina! The sweater was a big hit lol! I am looking forward to diving in! Enjoy your weekend too, my friend! XOXO
Ilene says
You should do the one that seems the most daunting first so you feel a sense of accomplishment for the new year.
Christy says
That is great advice, Ilene! XOXO
susan says
I wish I could go thrifting with you! You find the BEST stuff! I’d love to see what you do with the little secretary. I’ve got a similar pice hanging around in my garage that I need some inspiration for!
Christy says
That would be awesome to have another thrifting buddy! I did find some great pieces which isn’t always the case in the winter months. I was thinking of doing the secretary or the cabinet…we’ll see which one wins! XOXO
Bex says
I’m so jealous about those night stands! They’re gorgeous and $10!?!??! That’s quite the steal!
Christy says
Right?? Usually when I see a donation that has been dropped off, they tell me I have to wait until it gets processed. I was so excited he made a deal with me right there! XOXO
Marci says
Hi Christy! I have been following you for awhile now and you have inspired me to do some repurposing on my own. However, I have a major concern. I am worried about bringing “critters”” home with me hidden in the items I buy… especially bedbugs! How do you avoid this issue? Do you inspect each piece top to bottom? What do you do for really big pieces that you can’t turn over? What about upholstered furniture? Are these bugs easy to spot? I know you have used disinfectant wipes before. Sorry to be so blunt but this potential problem is really holding
me back!
Christy says
Hi Marci! If bugs are a concern for you, I would stick to non-fabric pieces. I imagine if a wood piece had any critters you would see them? After over a decade of buying thrift store items to upcycle, I have never had any issues, and I’ve bought a LOT of stuff! (Knock on wood!!) Most of the pieces I buy hang out in our garage for a while anyway before I get to them so they don’t come right into the house. Hope this eases your mind a bit! XOXO
Nancy says
Wow! That’s quite a haul! I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
Christy says
Yes!! The hunt is always so fun! Looking forward to getting started! XOXO
Candy says
Really great finds can’t wait to see what you do with them!
Blessings
Candy
Christy says
Thanks, Candy! Me too! XOXO
Phyllis says
I am excited to see what you do with each piece of your new haul. I am amazed at the prices of the pieces you find. I would never find pieces at those prices. Always look forward to see what you are doing. Your sister’s kitchen and table set are beautiful.
Christy says
Thank you, Phyllis! I found some great deals for sure! The two best deals, the Bombay table and the cabinet came from the Goodwill by my house and the space they have for furniture is really limited, so they price things incredibly low to move them quickly…sometimes I get really lucky! XOXO
Micah says
You’ve got some great stuff in this haul! That second lamp! It’s got the same crystal base as a scale that I made over. I painted it white (all but the glass) and distressed it. I can’t wait to see that petite secretary all painted up!
Christy says
Thanks, Micah! I love that crystal lamp…looking forward to that one. I will probably do something similar. I might just start with the secretary because I’m excited to see that one done too!XOXO
Kimberly Wollmer says
I’m so excited to see how each and every piece turns out! Since I have an oar like that in my beach-themed bathroom, I can’t wait to see its makeover.
Christy says
Oh yay! Yes, that oar could be so cute, but I keep forgetting about it! XOXO
Becky says
Wow, what a great pile! This might be the best yet! We’ve got us some good times coming up… 😁
I can’t help but think about how much work you put into getting that “haul” picture! You did some serious heavy furniture toting, just to give us a great picture! Thanks!! You’re the best!
Christy says
Thanks, Becky! It is a good one…a nice mix too! Setting it all up for the photo isn’t too bad at all until my neighbors start doing slow drive-bys to see what on earth I’m up to haha! XOXO
Kellie says
I have to say I really can’t wait to see that big beautiful $25 dollar cabinet finished. I have been searching for something similar for myself and certainly haven’t seen a deal like that around here!
Christy says
I am really looking forward to tackling that piece! I couldn’t believe it when I saw the price…I was afraid to walk away lol! XOXO
Robyn Wright says
Why am I so excited to see how you make over these pieces?? LOL!
Christy says
Ha ha! I am so excited that you are so excited!! XOXO
Johnene says
Looking forward to seeing these items redone.
Christy says
Me too, Johnene! I’m excited to get started! XOXO
Ange Mills says
Ooo, I want that tray. I bet it will be awesome!

Christy says
I hope so ha ha! XOXO
Linda C Johnston says
CANNOT wait to see what miracles you have up your sleeve!
Christy says
Yay! There is nothing better than starting a brand new year with a brand new haul of goodies and I’m excited to see what I have up my sleeve for these pieces too! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Hi Christy! You hit the jackpot girlfriend! Trays don’t sell very well here and i love to makeover trays, as well. The 2 that i have copied of yours did sell in my booth so keep bringing me inspiration. I would love to see how you makeover the china hutch. I want one so bad for myself. Looking forward to your haul. Its going to be fun!
Christy says
I sure did, Cheryl! I’m surprised your trays don’t do well where you are? Although I almost always do mine in some shade of white and that helps! I am excited to work on that hutch! XOXO
Brenda says
Hi! Noticing the efficiency of your car- what kind of vehicle is it? I have a minivan, but I have to remove middle row of seats to haul larger pieces, which is annoying.
Christy says
Hey Brenda! I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is quite roomy, but not quite as tall as my four-runner was inside. I used to be able to fit a huge china hutch with the top stacked on top of the bottom with no problem. This one isn’t quite that roomy, but still nice! XOXO
Sandi says
You have found the neatest things!! I can’t wait to see what happens. I love the chair with the cool back and arms. Hugs,
Christy says
I think so too, Sandi! I’m super excited about this round, and yes, I love that chair also! XOXO
Gloria Wyssbrod says
Please paint one of your pieces in the Antebellum Blue. I love that color.
Christy says
I have a small jar of the antebellum that I have been wanting to try, so I might just do that! XOXO
Kathy says
Wow, you got some great deals. Those night stands are beautiful and what a bargain! I get so excited when I get a good deal that I usually want to start on the next project right away. Then I remember I have a hubby and kids to feed and have to take care of those things first. I feel like prices in the thrift stores in my area (Central PA) are going up. I’ve been getting better deals off FB marketplace (and yard sales in spring and summer). Looking forward to seeing what you’re gonna do with that lone oar. 🙂
Christy says
I sure did get some great deals, Kathy! Sometimes in the winter, I end up having to pay a little more so I’m glad I had some luck. I agree… yard sales are probably the best. I’m not good with having to drive out to people’s houses when it is convenient for them, but I’m sure I could get some fantastic deals that way! Glad that works well for you. I’m sure the oar is so glad it is finally his turn too ha ha! XOXO
ROSE LEFEBVRE says
You have some amazing pieces to reclaim and bring back to life. I so look forward to seeing them all finished up.
Christy says
Yes!! I got really lucky this go round! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Another great haul, Christy. Can’t wait to see what you do with it all. I’d like to see the curvy table first. But I also want to see the desk. And the night stands! They can’t all be first, and that’s okay, because enjoying the process is so much fun.
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! I’m excited about this one!! It is hard for me choose what to start with too ha ha! XOXO
Debbie in TX says
The secretary will be an interesting makeover to see. I’m not quite feeling the love for that chair because of its style. Maybe you can work some magic on it! And I remember those Bombay tables from way back when and actually wanting one at the time. Looking forward to the renovations!
Christy says
I think I may start with the secretary! There is a reason I chose the chair, which you will eventually see. It is perfect for what I have in mind! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Constance Colvin says
Oh Christy I just LOVE your blog! I just got caught in your whirlpool again, following link after link and re-seeing all the projects you’ve done……..you are a human tornado upcycler! So much skill and creativity Thank you for showing us what you get done! You’re also a master of time management! Love from Connie ;-* ;-* ;-*
Christy says
You are the sweetest, Connie, thank you!! I get lost going down the rabbit hole of old projects sometimes too ha ha! You guys keep me on task lol! XOXO
Lori says
This is a great haul! I love the pieces. I have an old oar and haven’t decided how I want to repurpose it. Maybe when I see yours, I will get some ideas. Happy painting and repurposing.
Christy says
Thanks, Lori! It will be fun to finally do something with that oar! XOXO
Jerri says
Hi,
I like how you show us your haul and then each piece as you finish it. I have to ask…
How long does it take you to complete bigger pieces? How many projects do you complete in a week? How much time each day do you spend painting and redoing projects?
Thanks!
Christy says
Thanks, Jerri! I often have more than one project going at once so I can work on one while the paint is drying on the other, but I usually complete at least two pieces a week for Tues and Thurs posts. I can really hustle if I want and complete a piece in a day if I need to, but most can be completed in a couple of days. My time is also taken up with staging, photographing, editing photos, and writing my posts as well, or I could get much more done. XOXO
Petra says
What a fabulous haul 😮 . I have a petite secretary almost identical to yours, and I’ve just repainted it again from mid-grey to taupe with a white interior – I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do with yours 🙂 . Can’t wait to see all your other great pieces revamped too. Have a great weekend 🙂 xo
Christy says
Thanks, Petra! I think I’m going to start with the secretary…I love that one! I bet yours is gorgeous! XOXO
Rosie says
You have rounded up some great pieces. I am looking forward to all your upcoming projects but I must say the petite secretary has me really interested in how you will turn that to a beautiful piece!
Have a good weekend☺️
Christy says
Thanks, Rosie! I love that piece too and I’ll probably start with that one since many of ya’ll are interested in it too! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
Ohhhh, lots of good stuff!!! I went thrift shopping yesterday and plan to post my haul next week. I’m going to TRY HARD to do them in a timely fashion this time!! The last time I posted a picture of a haul…it took forever to get through them all. lol And yes, we need to get together soon! 🙂 xoxo
Christy says
I was really lucky with these pieces finding them in the winter! I usually have to break down and spend more than I like in the winter months just to have some inventory to work with! Can’t wait to see what you found and I can’t wait to see your bathroom reveal! YES…let’s get a shopping date on the calendar soon! I’m going to text you right now lol! XOXO
Addie says
GREAT haul!!!! I would love to see the china cabinet with the missing veneer issues first. I love how you plow through these things. You have some good pickens over there.
I loved your sister’s kitchen. It came out great. What a transformation !!!!
Have a great and blessed weekend!!!!….XXOO
Christy says
Thank you, Addie!! The china cabinet will take a little more time to get done, so it probably won’t be first, but I am really excited about that one! I did find some great things…the picking is the funnest part lol! And my sister’s kitchen…what a beast that was, but we tamed it ha ha! Enjoy your weekend too!!! XOXO
Robin says
What a terrific haul!!!! I am currently looking for a dresser to ‘stage’ my grandson’s bedroom. Is it easy to fix veneer? I’m not that handy and I have passed on several chests because of this issue….
Christy says
Thank you, Robin! I had lots of luck this go round! If a piece has small areas of missing veneer, but the rest is still intact, I will just use wood filler to fill in the missing areas. I might even glue some loose areas back down and then use wood filler. Some pieces have really loose veneer that comes off easily with a putty knife, and I have had others that were a total pain. My friend, Larissa from Prodigal Pieces, swears by the wet towel method where you lay a wet towel on the veneer overnight and it comes right up. I haven’t tried it, but I just may if this one gives me trouble! XOXO
Sharon says
Hi Christy. You find the best stuff. I can’t wait to see what you do with the cookbook stand. I picked up one from and online sale a few years back and it’s just not doing it for me. So hopefully when you do yours I will get that “Ah Hah!” moment I have been waiting for.
Christy says
I did have some really good luck this time! You can see a cookbook stand I did in this smalls post: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/painting-the-smalls-for-my-booth-part-one/ I just painted it white, but it looked so much better! XOXO
Rhonda says
That is a great haul:) I have the exact same Cheers tray that I picked up at a local thrift store here in SC. It has been sitting in my closet waiting for a redo. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
Christy says
Thanks, Rhonda! I thought the bottom of that tray would look like shiplap if I painted it which people seem to go nuts for, but we’ll see what I end up doing with it. Funny that we both found the same one at the thrift store! XOXO
Shelly Alford says
No offense but I wish I had beat you to those nightstands 🙁 I’ve been looking for that pair for 6 years now. Can’t wait to see what you do with your haul !
Christy says
Aww…so sorry! They were such a lucky find! Thanks, Shelly…I’m excited to have a whole new haul of things to play with! XOXO
Marlene McCormack says
The oar! I am curious as to your plans for the oar. Why? I have one to do over after I repair a small split on the paddle. I’ve checked out some ideas on Pinterest but would nothing really made my heart jump. I can’t wait to see what you do.
Christy says
You’re not the first to mention the oar! I keep forgetting I have it, but I’m looking forward to doing something with it finally! XOXO
