I found a new thrift store about 20 minutes from my house last week and it was like Christmas morning! It benefits Disabled American Vets like one of my favorite thrift stores, and it was amazing! I left with a full cart, y’all.
One of the items I found was this sweet $6 farmhouse stool and it is thrifty makeover #25! (Only six more left yikes!)
Everyone can use a little step stool, right?
I decided to stick with gray and white like my Farmhouse Headboard Bench I shared yesterday:
I actually started by painting it all white. But like many makeovers, I decided to change directions mid-project. I felt like it needed something else.
Then I remembered I had saved the numbers I used to make this Numbered Tray:
Numbered Tray (& a Free Download!)
I used contact paper and my silhouette machine to make a stencil for that tray, but I kept all of the numbers I had punched out…just in case!
I arranged them how I wanted them…
And then painted over in Behr’s Sparrow made into DIY chalk paint…
I peeled off the numbers right away, then sanded and sealed with Annie Sloan’s clear wax.
This is what happens when my youngest is home while I’m taking pictures:
He said Hulk wanted his picture taken too.
And look at those little piggies…not so little anymore!
Here they are two years ago sniff sniff…
I used him to model that little stool I redid for the boys’ bathroom. Time sure is flying by. I try to enjoy as many moments as I can!
Hope you liked this one. You could probably recreate this with number stickers as well!
Remember this drawer that came from this Crab Dresser I shared a couple of weeks ago?
I made something out of it and it will be tomorrow’s makeover! See ya then, Friends!

The numbers are perfect for this little stool. If I were close to you I would visit your shop to buy this. I need a stool at the lake to reach the highest shelves in my kitchen.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Paula! This would be perfect at your lake house! XO

Sweet step-up stool. Perfect for kiddos!
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Rose! I think so too…our old one that I showed had a tendency to tip if you stood on the edge. This is much better. 🙂
andi says
He looks like Captain Hulkmerica. =D I haven’t done anything with numbers like this yet, but I love the look! I’ve also been waffling over whether or not to get a Silhouette. Apparently you like yours. 😉 Love the stool!

Christy K. James says
Ha ha exactly! Tomorrow he’ll be Hulk-Iron Man…he loves to switch up the parts. I have a love-hate relationship with my silhouette, but the more I learn the more I like. If only I had the patience and attention span to sit through a few tutiorials, it really I pretty cool!
Cristina says
Such a charming little stool you’ve gotten yourself! I love those numbers and the little piggies! 🙂
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Cristina! Aren’t the little piggies the best? I sure will miss them!
Tania says
I am just so impressed with your creativity with all these projects! I saw that little stool and while I knew you were going to paint it, I never imagined the numbers on the top! Way cute!
Can’t wait to see what you’ve done with the drawer!
Tania
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Tania! I’m glad I can still surprise ya ha ha! XO
Joanne Taggart says
Oh Christy, sweet stool and adorable piggies. What a cool picture. You could print them and hang them up side by side for posterity. Only a mother could understand. Oh, and by the way, I really liked the numbers traced and cut out of contact paper. I’m one of those people that when I visit someone’s store or booth I fall love in with what is used to set up their creations. Thanks so much for sharing all your lovely work. I’ll be sad when it’s over.
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Joanne! Printing the photos is a great idea…I may just do that. I love the display that goes into setting up the merchandise as well. Creating the vignettes for my photos is one of my favorite parts! I’ll be sad when it’s over as well, but I still have five more on the way. 🙂
mare williams says
I too love all your posts!!!! And, I’m so proud of you as a mom that you allow your little guy’s Hulk or whoever he is (lol) to stay on your made-over bench and keep it on the blog!! Also, I love your ideas – just super, and you’ve inspired me so much in repurposing!!! Now that our sons are grown up (tears), and I’ve retired from teaching K-8, I have time!!
Christy K. James says
Thanks so much, Mare! My son got a big kick out of seeing his hulk America on the blog. He used to be around a lot more when I would take my photos, but now that he’s in Kindergarten, I do a lot of my work when he’s not here. I miss those days a bit! I love that you are feeling inspired…that is the best compliment ever! Have fun!! XO
Marie, The Interior Frugalista says
Thanks for the chuckle, I miss those days of little piggies and toy photo bombs. Your stool is fabulous and so was that price! How exciting to find another spot nearby for treasure hunting.
