Hello beautiful friends! Today I’m continuing to work through the rest of my Fall Haul with this beautiful ornate table:
I thought it was a steal at $25! I was surprised to find such a deal at that particular thrift store because their furniture is usually overpriced. I scooped it right up!
This is one of the easiest makeovers I’ve done in a long time.
I didn’t expect any issues with bleed-through on this one because I think this is walnut, which generally does not bleed. I went ahead and gave it one coat of BOSS in white anyway just in case. I didn’t mind if a little white showed through the final paint finish. BOSS also comes in clear if you want to seal in the tannins on those older pieces but don’t want white to show through when distressing.
I decided on Vintage Duck Egg mixed with about 30% Cotton:
This color is quite difficult to capture in photos.
It looks more like this in real life:
A beautiful subtle hue. However, it appears bluer in most of the photos, possibly because of the way the light is hitting it.
This only got one coat of the Vintage Duck Egg/Cotton mix. Then I followed up with 220 grit sandpaper.
I just love all those details on the legs!
I’m looking around to see where I could use this piece in our house!
I sealed with white wax, only because I am almost out of my satin clear coat. Wax gives such a lovely finish, but I don’t miss all that work, especially on a piece with all this detail!
And that’s another one done woohoo!!

Oh it is so beautiful now. I haven’t seen you use that color in awhile, it turned out great. Good luck in finding a place for it in your home. Another beautiful make over.

Thank you, Mary! It was nice to bring this color back out… it’s one of my favorites! I’m thinking it might make a great bedside table! XOXO

Christy, as usual, this is lovely and I have always loved this color!! If I lived close to your shop, I would be a constant visitor, even if it was to just to say ‘ hello’ and see what new items you had. It would probably be quite difficult to leave the shop empty handed… 😉.
Christy says
Aww you’re so sweet, Denise! Thank you! And I love this color too! XOXO

Love your table and what a great find as well as great price. I remember my mother having a table very much like that. A person just gotta love them table legs.
I do have a ?. I’m painting a full size bed frame in a black semi-gloss for a friend, but I just don’t know what type / kind of sealer I should put on it. The bed frame does have a lot of detail to it but don’t know which sealer would work best. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Christy says
Thanks, Colleen! Yes the legs are delicious! If you are using semi gloss, there is no need to seal. XOXO

I absolutely love this color. Keep it .Was your mix of paint 2 to 1 ?
Christy says
Thank you, Margie! I’m going to try it beside my bed. I used about 1/3 white, but 50/50 would be a beautiful mix also. XOXO

It IS lovely, Christy! Those legs are fabulous. Although I can imagine how challenging it was to wax. It’s a great size and shape, and if you decide to take it to the booth I predict it will sell quickly.
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! I’m hoping to find a home for it in our house…beside my bed, maybe? XOXO

This is the thing that always amazes me about once a piece is painted. I never saw those delicious grooves on the legs until after you put paint on them. A craftsperson spent a lot of time making those legs beautiful and the details get lost once the dark stain was applied. I love what happens when paint is applied to an old stained piece. Suddenly it comes alive – almost like it is smiling and happy to be released from bonds of obscurity. Thanks for your inspiration and for making so many things pretty and cheerful.
Christy says
Yes!! That is so true! Paint really brings out all those beautiful curves and details! Thanks so much, Carol!! XOXO
Marie says

A wonderful table with fabulous legs. Would be great at the end of a hallway…

Thanks, Robin! Yes, it sure would! Our hallways have doors to rooms on either end boo. I might try it beside my bed though! XOXO

What a wonderful table – I want it so bad. Everything about it is perfect. AGAIN, you made it beautiful and probably even prettier than it was originally.
Christy says

Petra says
Gosh it’s beautiful but I don’t envy you doing those legs – I love detailed legs but I don’t enjoy painting them 😀 I’d love that piece in my home 😀
Christy says
Thank you, Petra! Painting the legs really wasn’t too bad, but waxing them wasn’t too fun lol…worth it though! Enjoy the rest if your weekend! XOXO
