Welcome, spooky friends, to my Outdoor Halloween Decor Tour! I’m joining my friend Krista of The Happy Housie and several more friends on her Seasonal Simplicity Fall Serious. Be sure to look out for even more Halloween tours at the bottom!
If you’ve followed me for long, it’s no secret that I absolutely LOVE Halloween!!
I’ve collected things over many years. I like to think of our home at Halloween as the classiest Skeleton B&B you ever did see! There is no gore, just one big skeleton party at the James Dead and Breakfast Inn!
Let’s start from the road and work our way to the house.
It really comes alive at night with lights, including flickering lights on the porch, but today I’m sharing the daytime version. On Halloween night, we add even more, including more lights, decor, fog and spooky music! I’ll be back closer to Halloween with everything all lit up at night. I might even video it so you can see the full effect!
Outdoor Halloween Decor Tour
It’s difficult to make out the fun details that make up our display from so far away, so let’s get a little closer!
In the new garden bed next to the driveway that we added this Spring, you’ll find this guy…
This is one of our very first skeletons. His bones are so brittle from being out in the elements and then locked in the attic that a little more of him crumbles away each year.
This guy greets you as you approach the walkway to the house…
On Halloween night, fog bellows from his mouth at unsuspecting passersby.
These guys are always up to no good…
I went foraging in the treeline behind us to find some down branches I could add this year…
I got lucky! And how fun is the two-headed skeleton?
You may remember I added the window boxes to our porch this Summer.
I love them filled with mums!
They add a touch of class to this skeleton party!
DIY Halloween Sign
I made that sign several years ago using a mailbox post from the Home Depot.
To the right of the front steps is the cemetery:
No Skelton B&B would be right without one!
And Mama and her baby…
I found that rocker beside the dumpster near our old house many years ago.
The fence around the cemetery came from the garden section at the Home Depot a few years ago…
And that large window to the left of the porch is our dining room. That get’s decked out also, and is all aglow at night!
I’ll be back to share that tomorrow!
Now let’s work our way up onto the porch!
The Butler was the very first Halloween decoration we ever bought.
He was stolen once at our old house, but luckily, we were able to find a replacement.
This year, I treated him to a brand new suit! (Courtesy of the thrift store for only $10!)
And to the right on the porch…
All the candles are on timers and flicker just like the real thing. You can find them HERE. The candleholder was a thrift store find.
And hanging just above, one of these spooky prints from my Pottery Barn Inspired Spooky Mantel I shared WAYYYY back in 2014!
Pottery Barn used to share the printables of these spooky photos back then, but you can find a few similar images if you google “Headless Halloween photos Pottery Barn.”
To the right, you’ll find this gal hard at work. Can you see what she’s doing?
She’s sewing, of course!
Remember that sewing machine table I removed the machine from to turn into a dressing table? The machine looks perfectly at home in my Halloween display!
And another creepy photo. They make the best props!
Just behind this young lady, hanging from the porch is this little man:
The rocker was a thrift store find that had broken apart, so this was a great way to get some use out of it.
At the other end of the porch is this gentleman making himself comfy in my bistro set…
(I pulled those gorgeous chairs off the curb across the street. No shame here!)
There’s a porch swing around the corner and this is the view from it just a few short months ago:
Also on the porch looking out are these guys:
And finally, I thought y’all might get a kick out of this.
We had a spooky creeper looking in our bedroom window which was SUPER creepy from the inside when you weren’t expecting it, except…his head fell off.
Ha ha! It’s still laying on the grass! Not so spooky now.
That’s nothing compared to the life size Santa we had in our Santa’s workshop on the front lawn a few years ago. His head fell off and rolled across the grass after a gust of wind knocked him over. I was on my way home when I was alerted with a text message from our neighbor that read, “SOS, Santa is down. I repeat, SOS, Santa is down!” Ha ha! Luckily I was almost home, and hopefully not too many children were traumatized!
And that is our Outdoor Halloween Decor Tour!
I’ll be back tomorrow with a tour of the inside!
Here’s a peek of the dinner party inside:
Then I’ll be back closer to Halloween with nighttime version of both the inside and outside, hopefully in video, so you can see it with all the flickering lights!

Really cute! I used to create a graveyard and each tombstone had a neighbors name for fun. They loved it! Example: Here lies Chuck. Hit by a truck.
Christy says
Oh my goodness… I love the tombstones with the neighbors names! I bet they got such a kick out of that! XOXO

Christy says

Karen Moore says
You do the best Halloween displays. I did love the seamstress and the skeleton peeking in the window or would be if he hadn’t lost his head. lol Seeing your window boxes, I was wondering how they did for the summer. I know you had some concern about keeping them watered. Since I put my pots on drip with a timer I haven’t looked back.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Karen! My window boxes did fantastic! The petunias had trailed over the sides and down about 2 feet! Keeping them watered wasn’t hard at all since I have a tap right to the right of the porch, and I had several others up there to water anyway. XOXO
Cindy says
Hi Christy,
I’ve followed your blog for several years and love everything you put together. Your beautiful home has inspired me. I have to take exception to the Halloween decorations focusing on the dead. I’m a retired Paramedic/RN and have lost family during this pandemic. My husband and I were sick ourselves. For me as a Christian, I’ve never been able to focus on the dark side of this holiday. A cheerful, colorful autumn celebration makes me happier. Skeleton decor represents death and I prefer to dwell on uplifting things like Christ’s Resurrection. Death is a very hard part of life, especially the mother and child skeletons. I’ve never seen that before. I have friends who have lost babies and young children, and I didn’t have the blessing of motherhood myself. In my family ancestry there are many stillborn infants and childhood deaths, so seeing the display brings pain to my heart. Your decor is to do with as you wish, but for me, it’s an opposite atmosphere of your usual happy posts and left me with very sad feelings.
Christy says
I’m so sorry this hit close to home for you, Cindy. It is all meant to be in fun. The part I enjoy the most is seeing the children’s eyes light up and their excitement when I put it up. Maybe imagining it through their eyes might give a different perspective. I’m a RN also and would never take death lightly. XO
Tracy barnes says
Wow you went all out. It looks Awesome!!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Tracy! XOXO
Constance Colvin says
So cool Christy! You may have the largest collection of life-sized skeletons in the country! Hahahaha……….
Christy says
Ha ha you might be right lol! I just can’t resist! Thanks, Connie! XOXO
Cecilia says
So much fun! I bet it looks spooktacular at night. Lol, sorry I couldn’t resist. Love the sewing machine repurpose…because of course, skeletons need a seamstress. Can’t wait to see the rest.
Christy says
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Cecilia! Thank you! I was so excited to be able to use that machine lol! XOXO
Michele M. says
Oh man, Christy, I bet your house is the one all the kids want to see. It’s amazing. I don’t decorate for Halloween anymore but even when I did it didn’t come close.
You and my neighbor would get along great. She does hers up big time too – but you win, hands down. Well done, ma’am. It truly is spooktacular!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Michele! I get such a kick out of it every year! XOXO
Robin says
Love it, love it, love it all. I concentrate on all things skeleton, too. You have waaaaayy more than I (lol). Never can have enough, though.
Christy says
Thank you, Robin! Over the years, I have slowly weeded out most of the ghouls and now I just stick with skeletons. And yes, it seems we can never have enough ha ha! XOXO
susan says
Love to see it every year! Wish I could drive by. I bet you have traffic backed up! I have always wondered – where in the world do you put it all 🤣🤣
Christy says
Thank you, Susan! My neighbors definitely get a kick out of it! It all lives in our attic…the skeletons will greet you if you have to go up there in the middle of the summer for something ha ha! XOXO
Debbie in TX says
I love how you put the sewing machine to good use! Also the headless, super creepy guy outside the bedroom window – haha, what a riot!!! I’ve been following all the fun Halloween decor since you were at your old house w/ the courtyard (such a cool and spooky spot to decorate). Love, love, love everything, and the dining room looks really fun. Can’t wait to see the video. Thanks for sharing!
Christy says
Thank you, Debbie! That machine worked so well with my spooky set up! And the skeleton outside our window…he’s still headless lol! I do miss our old courtyard as it was a fantastic set up for decorating! Have a fantastic day! XOXO
Sue Mellette says
Loved the outdoor tour! WOW! Where do keep all this stuff when not being staged for Halloween! Amazing display and quite realistic! You have thought of everything. I think my favorite was the woman sewing with the antique Singer sewing machine? Clever!! You certainly should get the “Best Dressed – Halloween Yard of the Month Award”! Thanks for sharing. Can’t wait till we see it lit up at night!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Sue!! It all lives in our attic mwah ha ha! I was so excited to get to use the machine in our display this year…it fits right in! XOXO

Shirley says
WOW this is just too much! I wish we had kids that came around but 8 years ago we moved to the country and we get “0” kids now. I was heartbroken the first year and realized afterwards that I would never have them again. : *({ I always loved to do different things where I and other friends and family would always scare the begeegees out of the kids. My favorite part of Halloween! A good friend back in the day brought her boys one year. The little one hit me and said I’m never coming back to your house again! LOL The very next year he was back for more! Lol 😝
🔥H🐶A🐱P🐸P🐷Y H🐭A🦊L🐻❄️L🐹O🐵W🦁E🐮E🐨N :*}💥
Christy says
Oh ha ha! I enjoy seeing the kids being too timid to approach one year, and then being brave enough to come up the next year! Seeing the kids’ reactions is the best! Happy Halloween! XOXO
Denise Dorn says
I don’t know what to say! Every year it gets better and better and better. I definitely wish I was you neighbor. Thank you for sharing your boo-tiful decorations!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Denise! I’m so glad you enjoy them! XOXO
Addie says
That is toooooo much work for me!!!! I know…party pooper!!!! Not really crazy about the day. You did it up though!!!…Can I have a lounge chair and a margarita and watch while you take it all down? hahahaha
Christy says
Ha ha! It is a lot of work lol! Taking it down is super quick, thank goodness! It all comes down first thing on November 1st…bring a jacket!! XOXO
ROBIN says
WOW!!! ANOTHER YEAR YOU OUT DID YOURSELF.
EVERYTHING IS METICULOUSLY PLACED. ON THE BENCH THE BLACK CAT PILLOW WITH THE BLACK PUMPKIN. THE BATS IN THE TREE ABOVE. TO THE LITTLE GAL SEWING, THE MOUSE BY HER HAND. THE PORCH WITH THE BUTLER THE SKELETON HEADS ON THE POST. THE PUMPKIN WRAPPED IN BLACK NETTING. EXCELLENT JOB, I COULD GO ON AND ON. THE STRATEGIC PLANNING THAT GOES INTO THIS HALLOWEEN CREATION IS NOT LOST ON ME. LOVE IT, LOOK FORWARD TO THIS EVERY YEAR. THANK YOU.
Christy says
Aww I appreciate that SO much, Robin! And I love that you enjoy seeing it!! I truly enjoy setting it up every year! Happy Halloween! XOXO
