Hey there, amazing friends! Did y’all score any Black Friday deals this weekend?? Brennan is getting taller by the minute and is in need of a bigger bed. I have been on the hunt for something I could possibly redo for his room but have not had any luck finding a whole set that I liked, so we were waiting on Black Friday sales in hopes of getting a deal on something new. Unfortunately, there weren’t any huge savings to be had on what we were interested in. We ended up buying something though and yesterday, I did find a desk at the thrift store for only $13! At least I got a deal on something! I’ll be redoing that soon.
I also started decorating for Christmas…and decorating…and decorating! Of course that means I didn’t finish up all the goodies I had started on in time to share, but I dug around and found a super cute oldie to share instead today!
This project was in desperate need of some TLC:
Am I right?
I picked this up at the thrift store for $25, hoping I could love it back to life. These are my favorite finds. I love that it can only get better from here ha ha!
I’ve include a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Here is what the top looked like before:
Yikes! After about six minutes with my rotary sander, it looked better already:
I started with 120 grit, then 220 grit sandpaper.
This was back before I discovered my beloved BOSS, so I sealed the rest of the dresser with stinky shellac, knowing it would likely be a bleeder. I am so glad I don’t have to use that anymore!
I stained the top in Walnut and sealed with a Poly I had on hand at the time.
Then, I painted it in two coats of a color very similar to Haint Blue.
I sanded lightly here and there with 220 grit sandpaper, and sealed with Clear Wax.
The After
Here is how this hot mess dresser looks now!
This mirror I redid shows how close this color is to Haint Blue:
See that makeover HERE.
How pretty are these knobs?
They were my inspiration for this dresser! I found them at Hobby Lobby.
The Drawers
The drawers were a hot mess too.
The layers of wood that made up the sides and back were separated in several places.
Wood glue and some clamp action fixed them right up:
The inside of the top drawer was the worst:
This was AFTER a good wipe down. How does this even happen?? That red spot is where a warhead candy had melted and was still stuck to the drawer.
I did stain all the sides of the drawers inside and out to make them look better.
Then, I primed the bottoms of the drawers with some primer I had leftover from our kitchen cabinets before lining them:
Now I would use BOSS instead. It blocks stains and odors.
I have had stain and whatever else bleed through my fabric before, plus I wanted a nice white backdrop for this fun fabric…
I love this pop of pretty when you open the drawers!
I used my rotary cutter and cutting mat to cut the fabric, then adhered it to the bottom of the drawer with matte Mod Podge.
You can see exactly how I line my drawers with fabric in the video below:
Here’s a peek at the stained sides…
I considered painting the sides, but with this dresser having so many issues to begin with, I didn’t want sticking drawers to be another!
Wasn’t this a cute one? And all it needed were some fancy new knobs and paint!
My next new post will be this headboard and footboard that are no longer a headboard and footboard!
Update: See what I turned this set into HERE now, and it’s not a bench! 🙂
Have a fabulous week!!

Absolutely love this piece and the color you chose. It’s amazing what a little work and a whole lot of love will do for old finds. If this piece could talk!

Love this one! It’s great there are products now that seal and block odors without stinking themselves. I needed Boss on a few projects I did several years back. At least I know about it now! Have fun decorating!

I love how this dresser turned out. The color is beautiful. I stopped in your booth on Saturday. I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time. My brothers live in VA Beach. Your booth is wonderful! I bought some of your “dented” paint. LOL
Christy says
Thank you, Jan! And yay! I’m so glad you got the chance to stop by. It needs some filling in as far as smalls go and I am working on that. I also have my latest dresser to deliver, but I have no idea how I’ll fit in ha ha! I appreciate your business!! XOXO

Hi Christy! Why have I not seen this before? I have this. Color and have never used it. I bought it as a highlighter for a blend but I never got brave enough. It really is pretty. Love that fabric and the knobs.
