Can I tell y’all how excited I am to reveal our bedroom?? Amazing friends, today is the day!! And to think it all started with these $4 thrift store mirrors I made over for this space:
Then I suggested to my Hubby that we buy a new bedroom set, and he was totally on board. However, I nearly died of sticker shock and decided that painting our existing set was worth a try. I wasted no time getting to work before my Hubby changed his mind!
I shared the bed reveal and how I painted it already. It started like this:
I love it painted!
I was purposely not trying to give away the rest of the room when I shared it.
But today I’m revealing the rest of the space! I needed a few more decor items and I wanted to replace our ugly ceiling fan first. I’ve included a few affiliate links in this reveal so you can find the products I used.
Here is my Hubby’s dresser before:
And after…
I found a few new things to decorate his dresser including this cloche from HomeGoods that I dry-brushed:
My Mother-in-Law gifted us the family of figurines after we had Brennan, and I got a couple more as gifts. This a great way to display them.
I found these concrete looking candle holders at the At Home store:
Still need candles for them, but they looked a bit masculine for my Hubby and they matched the room.
Up next is my dresser before:
Can I tell you that I do not miss this wood at all??
And after some paint magic:
I love you, paint!! This is Fluff by Dixie Belle and I just love it!
I never imagined this set could look so pretty!
The hardware is perfect in Rustoleum’s Champagne Mist:
{And look at that pretty sheen the Satin Clear Coat leaves behind!}
I bought a couple of new frames from HomeGoods for my dresser:
I’ll eventually have to find something to replace the Winter greenery, but these candle holders will definitely stay:
Remember when I mentioned that I found the perfect curtains for $69 a pair, but I just couldn’t bring myself to pay that? These $30 alternatives that I found at HomeGoods are perfect!
And what about my night table that I couldn’t bring myself to paint?
It ended up on the opposite side of the room by the bathroom:
I’m still not sure if I will eventually paint it, but I was not able to come up with a solution for making it taller anyway, so I just moved it out of the way. UPDATE!! I did paint it…see how it looks now HERE!!
Four more of those $5 terra cotta molds that I found at Tuesday Morning are perfect on this wall.
To replace my estate sale night table, I brought this drum table up from my office to put beside my bed:
I like the darker top and it was free! It ‘s not quite tall enough to match the height of my Hubby’s nightstand, and. I took y’all’s advice and tried to raise the lamp with some books. While that did make the lamps match in height and looked so much better visually, I didn’t love the look of the books.
That’s where the flatware box that I redid on Tuesday came in!
It was the perfect height!
And now this lamp matches the height of the lamp on the other side!
The lamps came from HomeGoods, and you can find the rug on Amazon HERE.
When I was imagining our bedroom furniture painted, I was thinking about how much fun it would be to decorate this room for Christmas!
I found this flocked pre-lit tree at Walmart for only $79:
I always love traditional pops of red for Christmas, so I went with that in here also. I used red ornaments I already had and bought a few boxes of glass balls in red, champagne, and white at Michaels. The berry picks are from our main tree last year.
And then I borrowed a tip from my blogging bestie, Nancy from Artsy Chicks Rule, on how to add a snowy look to your tree. (She shares several ideas HERE.) I added dusters from the Dollar Tree in between the branches:
It kind of looks like snow collected in those places! It does have lights as well, but they were giving off a weird yellow glow in the photos, so I unplugged them.
The yellow chair that was in this corner still needs to be dealt with, but that can wait for now.
And remember our old ceiling fan/light fixture?
We don’t use a ceiling fan, so I couldn’t wait to replace it!!
Tada!!
Better, no?
I was looking at several options and although I was leaning towards some sort of drum shade, there is just something so timeless about a crystal chandelier! Plus this was half the price of the drum shade I liked at only $140 on Amazon. Find it HERE.
What I loved about this one is that the body matches the drawer hardware!
I did have to assemble it, but I had a helper…
I assembled it and my Hubby installed it.
I love how it looks in here though!
Here are the Supplies I used to transform this furniture:
- Fluff by Dixie Belle {I used two full 32 oz size containers and about 1/4 of another to give two dressers, a nightstand and a king-sized sleigh bed two coats.}
- Dixie Belle Clear Coat in Satin {I used less than 16 oz and applied one coat to the body of the dressers and nightstand, two coats to the tops, and one coat to the bed.}
- Dixie Belle’s blue sponge applicator
As always, get FREE SHIPPING on any orders over $50 in my Etsy shop. No code necessary! Get $8 flat rate shipping all orders under $50.
When I say this color of white has excellent coverage, I’m not kidding!
Find my Step-by-step guide for painting furniture HERE.
And you can check out my video on how to seal furniture using the satin clear coat and a sponge below:
If you have trouble viewing, find it on YouTube HERE.
And how about those grapes?
I hardly even notice them now!
And that is the big master bedroom reveal!!
I hope y’all like it as much as I do!
The most asked question after I shared the bed reveal, was how does my Hubby like it??
He thought it looked too girly before I was finished, but when it was all done and his Mom and Sister were raving about it, I think that changed his mind. So he actually likes it now and he even likes the chandelier!
I am so thrilled that we were able to keep our existing furniture and turn it into something we love!
I’ll be back next week with some Christmas decor! Have an amazing weekend!!
UPDATE: Check out our home decked out for Christmas HERE now!

I knew it would turn out great, but never expected just how beautiful your room could be
Christy says
Thank you so much, Mary! I never expected it to turn out so pretty either! I am so glad you like it and yes, it is so much more me now and I sure did save a bundle! XOXO

Terra Maggiolino says
WOW! What can I say, except that it looks amazing?!? (TBH, I really thought you were crazy for painting it, but you were spot on!) It’s lovely! My husband and I have been married for over 40 years, and we have always had more feminine bedrooms. We had three sons, and only one daughter, so the rest of the house was pretty masculine. At one point, back in the 80’s, we even had a rose-colored bedspread! Ha! It’s not that bad, now, it’s kind of your colors, which is why I love your work so much! As usual, you did a great job! Thanks for all your great ideas!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Terra! It took me a really long time to take a paintbrush to this set, but I’m so glad I finally did as well. I think it was the right move. It’s good that your husband doesn’t mind a pretty room, and I’m glad mine doesn’t either! XOXO
Gail says
You are truly an inspiration. My bedroom suit is very similar to yours with the exceptions is has scroll work on the top and bottom headboard, as well as on the front side of the dresser and end table. I have wanted to do SOMETHING…. I would love to down-size to a queen since now it is just me. I also have an end table that is round like yours. I had to paint the top as whoever had it before me tried to sand it and ruined the finish. Re-staining it was NOT an option. You’ve given me a lot of food for thought. I so look forward to your posts. Thanks so much.
Christy says
Wow thank you so much, Gail! I’m so glad I could give you some ideas for what you could do in your own set! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says
Oh Christy, what a stellar, magnificent difference!! Positively light, bright, soothing… sigh… gorgeous! Love all the accents and that your husband has come around to liking it! 🙂 Way to go!!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! I am so glad he likes it as well… He even told me again last night, so it’s for definite ha ha! XOXO

Moriah says
What a great transformation! You did an excellent job 😍. And I love the chandelier, too
Christy says
Thank you so much, Moriah! XOXO
Claudine says
Just gorgeous! Well done and I LOVE the chandelier. The hardware looks beautiful in Champagne Mist…I have filed that away for my own use at some point. Now, I’ll see if these before and after photos inspire my hubby to let me paint our bedroom set! 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Claudine! I love the Champagne Mist. I had originally done the handles in white and shabbied them up a bit, but they needed a little bling! Good luck with the hubby! XOXO
Dorenda Dyal says
You did an amazing job. The whole room looks spectacular. It’s so much more beautiful painted. And the chandelier is just gorgeous. I’m always inspired by your creativity.
Christy says
I appreciate that so much, Dorenda! Thank you! XOXO
Patti says
It came out lovely! I painted my entire set like this about 3 years ago and I still love it more than the original!
Christy says
Thank you, Patti! I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy mine for years to come as well! XOXO
Jerri says
Absolutely stunning. Beautiful. It is so airy and light compared to the heaviness of the wood. You never cease to amaze me!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Jerri! XOXO

Christy, it looks fabulous!!! How you tackled all that with all there is to do for the holiday season is beyond me. You rock, girl!!
Have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year! <3
Christy says
Thank you so much, Carolyn! I think it was the idea that I could decorate the room for Christmas that made me want to hurry up and get it done ha ha! I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas as well! XOXO
Jackie C says
Oh. May. Goodness!!!!
GORGEOUS!!!
You need a TV show!
I mean it!
Side note: I’m very disappointed in Dixie Belle. Their paints, etc are already quite expensive imho.
I’ll use up what I bought from you and go back to your homemade recipe.
Christy says
You are so funny! Thank you, Jackie! The people at Dixie Belle were so nice about it. They sent out a video to the retailers saying how sorry they were, and that they hadn’t raise their prices in the last five years, but the prices of things they had to purchase had gone up. They are still priced below the competition. But heck yeah… If you don’t mind mixing it up, DIY chalk paint rocks! XOXO
Betty Bilnoski says
Love, love, love everything! You are so talented.
We have a vintage French Provincial bedroom set that we‘ve been saying we’d like to refurbish/paint since we inherited it 17 years ago. I’ve been showing all your pics to my Hubby and he seems to be on board. (He’s not too sure about chalk paint though.) I just keep thinking that there’s no way we could paint our furniture in place – I’d have paint everywhere – especially with 4 kitties and a puppy.
But I’m so anxious to get started after seeing your big reveal. It’s all just so beautiful.
Christy says
I’m so glad you like it, Betty! Thank you! I’m glad I’m making a good case for painting your own set ha ha! Chalk paint works wonderfully, especially in a bedroom. Our pieces are so heavy and large that I had no option, but you could always put down drop cloths and lock the door LOL! XOXO
Stacey says
Wow!! Fabulous!!!! Incredible job, I absolutely love it!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Stacey! XOXO
Maria Rivera says
The bedroom looks amazing, so beautiful!! I’m actually in the middle of renovating my home and the first thing I did was paint my bedroom furniture white and it’s gorgeous also 😊
Christy says
Thank you, Maria! Good for you making your bedroom a haven first! I don’t know what took me so long! XOXO
Jacki Gherardi says
I was so excited to see the big reveal, and sister it did not disappoint. I am blown away by the total transformation. You are indeed the guru of all things new and beautiful, this is simply stunning. The chandelier you picked was perfect, and the box to raise the lamp was genius. And that Lyla is such a cute baby. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, you’ve got to be the hardest working woman I (kinda) know!
😘🎄🐾
Christy says
Oh yay! I’m so glad you like it! The chandelier might be my favorite and Lyla with lots of help with that LOL! I do have a hard time sitting still ha ha. I hope you have an amazing Christmas as well! XOXO
Cecile says
What a beautiful job in your re-do of the bedroom! It looks fantastic and now I’m thinking of doing our spare bedroom the same color. When it’s completed I will send you a picture.

Christy says
Thank you, Cecile! Enjoy making over your spare bedroom, and I can’t wait to see pictures! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well! XOXO

Denise Cox says
Oh my goodness, Christy!!!!! It’s absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! You did a fantastic job!! I have been a convert to a neutral/white palette only since this past year or so because of several of my blog friends…you being once of them. I am sooooo in love with this room!! I was hoping to do a DIY project or two when I moved into my brand new apt. in the summer of ’18, but was then diagnosed with ol’ arthritis in both of my hands. Soooo… looks like I’m stuck with the ol ‘ brown color. I was hoping for a distressed beachy look in my living/dining area… oh well… 😋. At any rate, you have a wonderful talent and thank – you so very much for sharing your projects/home with us.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Denise! It is always a pleasure to share! Maybe some day you’ll be able tackle a couple of projects if you take it slowly! XOXO
Janina says
Oh my goodness, Christy, this is a stunning transformation! The white is gorgeous and light. I SO can tell you don’t miss that dark heavy wood! And if hubby has to live with “girly” – hey, you had to live with his dark wood for how long? 😊 And the chandelier is perfect! I think your night table looks just fine…but I know you are a perfctionist. Lol. And the Christmas tree just finishes off the look for the holidays. Love the white duster effect – how clever!!!
Thanks for such an exciting reveal and a very Merry Christmas to you and your family, anc thanks for another year of beauty and inspiration! 🎄🎄🎄
Christy says
Thank you so much, Janina! And yes… I never even thought about it that way. I sure did have to live with this heavy dark furniture for years and years and years ha ha. He really does like it now though, thankfully! Merry Christmas to you and yours! XOXO
Janina says
Glad to hear that hubby loves thectransformation, too!
Christy says
Yes, me too! 🙂
Cindy says
I’m such a fan of your work and creativity. I can’t believe how fast you did this makeover! I would have been hesitant to paint that furniture, as I love the original look of the wood, but it really looks great painted too, and makes the room look bigger.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Cindy! I was hesitant to take a brush to this furniture because although I didn’t care for it in its original state, it is really well-made furniture. But now I get to really enjoy it and I agree that it does make the room feel larger! XOXO
Cathy Klose says
Stunning!!! As soon as I retire, I’m painting our bedroom furniture!! Excellent job and you must feel so proud of how it turned out!!
Christy says
Thank you, Cathy! I really am so pleased at how it turned out! XOXO
Nancy says
Your bedroom looks beautiful! Your husband is a nice guy.😀 Mine freaks when I mention painting furniture.😀
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy!! My Hubby was such a good sport, and he actually really likes it now. I know some really like their wood though! XOXO
debbie tracy says
Just fantastic! ALL OF IT!
Christy says
Thank you, Debbie!! XOXO
Carmen says
Wow! this is so beautiful. When I first saw the brown furniture it looked heavy, dark. But the white makes the whole room feel airy, soft and comforting. I would have never thought it would turn out so well. I was waiting for this. Question: Did you have to sand the furniture down a little in order for the paint to take? Did you use something else on top to lock in the color? I’m new to this, but want to see if I could redo my room with thrift furniture.
Please keep these ideas coming this was something I was looking forward to seeing.
Happy thrift hunting and happy furniture makeover 🙂
Carmen
Christy says
Thank you, Carmen! I agree that this furniture was just so heavy looking before. So much so that I almost wasn’t sure paint would fix it. I sure am glad I gave it a try! I did not sand at all, just gave everything a good wipe down with Lysol wipes. No need to sand or prime with Dixie Belle chalk mineral paint! I used their clear coat sealer in satin to seal. I shared all the products in my post as well as my tutorial for painting furniture with chalk paint, which you may find helpful! Good luck! XOXO
Becky says
Wow! what a difference paint made for this room. It is brighter and cozier. Looks great. Love the chandelier too!
Great job overall!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Becky!! XOXO

Judy Nykiel says
You are amazing and I am your # 1 fan! I wish I had the courage to do that to our old bedroom set.
Christy says
You are so sweet, Judy! Thank you! I figured if I messed it up, I could always replace it…glad I didn’t have to! XOXO
Marie says
Wow, what a difference, it looks so good! Glad to hear hubby is liking the transformation too. The room is quite lovely and your impeccable attention to detail shows! So pretty decorated for the holidays – you know I’m loving those hits of red.
Christy says

Susan says
Just beautiful! I especially love the transformation of your dresser. You are so very talented.
Christy says
Thanks so much, Susan! I am really pleased with how my dresser turned out as well. You couldn’t even see all those pretty details before! XOXO
Sue Duffy says
Love it! Not sure I would have the guts to completely cover the burl wood.
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! I believe it was veneer since the top of my husband’s dresser had a spot that swelled when a plant we had on there kept overflowing. XOXO
Kathy M says
I’ve been anxiously waiting for your bedroom reveal and it did not disappoint! Drop-dead gorgeous! (I tried to find a suitable replacement for that description that didn’t include the “d” word, but nothing fit the bill.)
Oh, the power of paint! You have proved it once again.
Christy says
You are the sweetest, Kathy, thank you so much! XOXO
gwen says
Oh my Christy, where to start? It ALL looks WONDERFUL! Besides the beautiful color of the furniture, I think the rug was a great addition, it really anchors the color of the furniture over the carpeting. If you hadn’t shared those more expensive drapes, we would never have known the ones with grommets weren’t your first choice! Can you tell us, or give us a link that explains your textured ceiling?
I heard on our news this morning that an At Home store is coming to Billings, MT, a mere 2-hour drive! I’m excited to check it out.
And it was sweet of you to include the figurine from you mother-in-law – does she read your posts?
Christy says
Finally made it to your comment, Gwen! You were comment number 51 today! Thank you so much! I’ve always wanted a rug to anchor the bed, so this was my chance. I’m so glad those inexpensive curtains worked out so we’ll. The ceiling is just swirled plaster, just like you might see on a wall except the light hits it in a different way on the ceiling and it almost looks like waves. Nope, it’s flat. 🙂 You’ll love the At Home store…they have so much stuff! My MIL does not read my posts, but she is super sweet, so I am glad I was able to display her gift! XOXO
gwen says
thanks for plowing through all these comments!
the ceiling looks so uniform – good job! and thanks for the tip, not sure my neck could take it though!
obviously you have a Home Run with this room makeover, everyone loves it!
Hope you have a great Holiday season!
Christy says
I love getting my youngest to bed and then curling up on the couch with Lyla and a blanket and reading through everyone’s comments. They make my day! I found a post of our Hot Mess Tour from when we first moved in where I shared a close-up of the ceiling because others had asked about it as well. You can see it here if you like: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/new-house-the-hot-mess-tour/. Enjoy your weekend!! XOXO

Larissa ~ Prodigal Pieces says
Refreshed!! My first thought…bravo. Beautiful new room.
Christy says
Thank you, Larissa! I keep wanting to go in there LOL! XOXO
Linda C Johnston says
Astounding results! I would have been interested to see the drawers left in that burled wood. Wonder how that would have looked? New lamps, chandelier, etc. are the perfect choice! Great job! Question if I may: Did you have any brush strokes? I have tried many paints and absolutely cannot eliminate those darn brush strokes. Any words of wisdom?
Christy says
Thank you so much, Linda! It could have been pretty to leave some of that wood… Too late now ha ha. I get very minimal brushstrokes by using a high-quality brush like a Purdy brush and I use a very light hand on my final strokes. Hope that helps! XOXO
Kathy says
What a beautiful transformation! I love the rug and light fixture too. Be proud girl, you did a lovely job.
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Kathy! XOXO
Kimberly Smith says
You are my hero, girl! WOW!

Turned out gorgeous, just as expected. Remember all us little people when you’re turned into the next Martha Stewart!! 😉
Christy says
Oh you are so funny, Sharon! Thank you my friend! XOXO
Liz Shivel says
Hi Christy, this all looks great! So beautiful & peaceful! I’m glad your husband likes it too! Great job!! I think that one table that you didn’t paint, I’d leave it as is. It looks antique to me, and I wouldn’t paint over id. Plus not everything needs to match in the room! Great job!! You make me to “not be afraid” to try to paint furniture, altho I won’t do my French antique pieces. But now I go to thrift shops and Habitat for Humanity Restores with new vision! 😎🎄 Thanks! Hug Lyla for me!
Christy says
Thank you, Liz! I don’t think I’m going to paint that small table. I love it as is. Happy painting! XOXO
Donna K says
I love how your bedroom makeover turned out!! So beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you, Donna! XOXO
Ellen Shook says
It all looks so beautiful and romantic! When I was a working decorator, I discovered that men who shared a bedroom with a partner always seemed onboard with a romantic somewhat feminine look for their bedroom. As long as there are no dolls and teddy bears, the softer sensibility seemed to be very pleasing to men, too. This room is quite gorgeous. I love your tree in here, too.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Ellen! That means a lot coming from a decorator! And it’s nice to know that men don’t mind a softer look. My husband has really come on board with our space! The tree is beautiful it up at night! XOXO
Mrs Shoes says
The ceiling is the only pat of the entire white room with any personality. jmo.
LeAnn Hileman says
It is so pretty! I love all the white with pops of red! I bet you find it restful.
Christy says
Thank you, LeAnn! It is so restful! XOXO
Debbie in TX says
Wow, this is so much better than before. You truly have a gift for this, Christy. I really love the lamps and the flatware box (genius idea), the hardware and the rug, and the chandelier is the icing on the cake! I like this chandelier much better than the one with the drum. Looks like you had a lot of help from Miss Lyla!!! I’m sure she was with you every step of the way. Your Christmas tree is a nice touch, too. Awesome job!
Christy says
Thank you, Debbie! I’m so glad you like it! I am so pleased how everything came together. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner! Miss Lyla was a big helper haha! XOXO
Tammy Ganci says
Beautiful…girly yes but beautiful. After the Holidays why not bring in some Navy Blue or shades of brown for a real country/farmhouse/shabby look.
just a thought
Christy says
Thank you, Tammy! I love the idea of bringing in navy! XOXO
Terry P says
Love your bedroom makeover…and that chandelier… oh yeah!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Terry! XOXO
Tara C says
It is perfect! The room is so much prettier now. Paint can really be magical.
Christy says
Thank you, Tara! Paint can work miracles for sure! XOXO
Carol Iskenderian says
I absolutely love this bedroom transformation!! I have dark oak antique dressers and a dark bed and I have been wanting to change it to a much more light and airy room. I always thought , or believed, that this oak furniture should stay original, but I am a widow and I am going to follow your lead on this. After the holidays I am going to make it happen!! Thank you for sharing your expertise and fabulous makeovers. I have been following you for a few months and now I have a plan!! Thank you thank you. Carol
Christy says
I am so glad you like it, Carol thank you! Your bedroom should be however you like it. If you want it light and bright, I say paint it! Have fun with your makeover! XOXO
Beth Smith says
Just gorgeous!! Love the kitty helping you. How does hubby like it? Tell him happy wife, happy life! If it’s too feminine tell him his eyes are closed in the room 90% of the time he is in there!
Christy says
Thank you, Beth! He actually really likes it now. He even mentioned it again last night without prompting ha ha! XOXO
Indie says
I am in LOVE with your bedroom makeover! I’ve been going back and forth on how to redo my bedroom but your transformation is so beautiful that I absolutely must copy it! After all imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Love it!!!
Christy says
Yay I’m so glad you like it, Indie! Thank you! Copy away and have fun! XOXO
Kelly Schulte says
This is GORGEOUS, Christy!! and it’s official, I am painting our master bedroom furniture. It’s almost identical to yours, and I never thought it could look this good. Thank you for the inspiration! xo
Christy says
Thank you, Kelly! I am so thrilled you are inspired to paint your own set! Honestly, I never knew it could look this good either! Have fun with yours! XOXO
Robyn Wright says
Christy! This is STUNNING! I LOVE the little pops of color. You could change them with each season. Oh my gosh! You must LOVE walking into your room so much! Oooh, I am going to get on to painting my dresser! Great job!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Robyn! Yes, I can easily add different pops of color for different seasons now. I do love going in there, and I’ve actually made my bed every day ha ha. Yes get to painting that dresser! XOXO
Carolyn says
Well done! Looks awesome! I love using something I have and just changing it to look better. And think of the money you saved!! Beautiful.
Christy says
Thank you, Carolyn! That is always my motto, but I did have my doubts about this furniture. I am so thrilled that I was wrong! I saved so much money!! XOXO
Denise says
The entire time I was reading your blog, the only word that kept repeating itself in my head was — “STUNNING”. There is not one thing I don’t love about your new room. It is absolutely STUNNING!!
Merry Christmas and I wish you and your family a Happy and Healthy New Year!!
Christy says
Wow, thank you so much, Denise!! I appreciate that!! A very Merry Christmas to you and yours as well! XOXO
Denise - Salvaged Inspirations says
Looks amazing my friend. And so glad it’s hubby approved. 😉
Christy says
Thank you so much, Denise!! My Hubby even mentioned how much he liked it again without prompting haha! XOXO
Paula says
Amazing transformation Christy! I love it! What a great space to wind down the day. If there was a coffee cart in there, I would never leave. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this featured in a magazine soon. Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us; very inspiring.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Paula! I could hang out in there all day! XOXO
Kimberly Wollmer says
Wow, you have totally outdone yourself! I am in awe. I can’t say enough nice things about it. And I also love the chandalier. So clean and beautiful! May I ask you a question? Do you think I can use chalk paint to paint my circa 1989 crown moulding in my den? I dread thinking of sanding on a ladder and the mess. Have a great day.
Christy says
Aww thank you, Kimberly! I’m so glad I went with the chandelier! As for your crown molding, I would stick with regular latex enamel since you don’t plan to distress it and it does not need to be sealed. I would prime it first, but there is really no need to sand it since it won’t be touched at all once it’s painted. XOXO
Lizzy Leff says
It’s beautiful! I love everything you did. I bet you can’t wait to go to bed every night. It’s truly amazing what paint can do, especially when it’s done so well. Where did you get the rug?
Christy says
Thank you, Lizzy! I actually want to make my bed now ha ha! The rug came from HomeGoods! XOXO
Denise says
This is absolutely beautiful!! I have 2 dressers that I have wanted to paint and now I know what I will use!
Christy says
Awesome!! Thank you, Denise, and lots of luck with your dressers! XOXO
Ronda Olson says
OMG Christy! I love, love your work! Both your master bedroom redo and your parents bedroom redo are gorgeous!
If I wasn’t in need of a hip and knee replacement, I would try my hand at painting my bedroom set that I have owned since 1979!
I’m hoping to win your prize package giveaway! Wouldn’t you love to visit Southern California?
Ronda
Christy says
Thank you so much, Ronda! I did spend quite a bit of time on my knees, so I imagine that could be hard on yours. Maybe tiny steps to get it done? Southern California doesn’t sound too bad right now…I’m sure it is much warmer this time of year than it is here! XOXO
Robyn says
SO pretty!! I love how the paint brings out the details in the furniture! Great job!
Christy says
Thank you, Robyn! I love that too! XOXO
Sharon says
Wow what a beautiful job you’ve done! It looks like a pic straight out of a magazine! Love it and love your blog… you inspire me. Thank you!
Christy says
Wow thank you, Sharon! I appreciate that so much! XOXO
jenifer says
It looks spectacular!!
Christy says
Thank you, Jenifer! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Now it really reflects your style. If I ever found a set of candlesticks like yours, I would definitely keep them, too! But what happened to Brian’s “before” dresser decor? 😂 I can only imagine what happens after the camera gets put away. I used books to lift my bedside lamp, too, until I got a taller one, but the box is a better solution. I love how you got the fabric motif in the center of the lid and I’m inspired to try fabric instead of paper.
I hope you enjoy the bedroom for a long time!
Christy says
It really does feel more like me now and works with the rest of the house. Why did it take me so long?? As for Brian’s decor, most of it is in his nightstand lol. The only thing that made its way back to the dresser was a wooden box that I gave him for our 2nd anniversary. He keeps his watch, etc in there. He didn’t care about anything else, thank goodness! he’s pretty easy like that. And yes, the box is working great! Great idea to lift it up thanks to you guys! Fabric works great for lining the boxes! Thanks, Marcie!! XOXO
Addie says
LOVE~LOVE~LOVE it all!!! Really turned out great. Like you can breathe in there without all the heavy dark wood. LOVE the chandelier…but as menopause closes in….you might want that fan back!!! lolo! UGH! to have to put it together …me not so keen on that.
PLEASE don’t paint the antique little side table!!! I think it looks great in there with the lighter color and lighter feel to the whole piece. It is a treasure.
AND congrats you got it all done before Christmas…YOU speedy!!!
Christy says
Yay!! I’m so glad you like it, Addie! Thank you!! It is so much lighter feeling for sure. My hubby has issues with dry eyes, so the fan won’t ever be an option, but as I am reaching 50, I have the stick your leg out to cool down trick working pretty well right now haha! I do keep a small fan on my desk at all times though! I don’t think the side table will be painted for now. I love it too much as is. I am thrilled that I got it all done in time to decorate it!! XOXO
Cynthia Quintanilla says
WOW! Your furniture turned out fabulous. As I mentioned before, you’ve inspired me to paint a table for myself. I pray I have as much luck and patience as you do. Thank you so much for all of your glorious posts and ideas you share.
Cynthia 🙂
Christy says
Thank you so much, Cynthia! I have not doubt your table will turn out beautifully! XOXO
Sandra says
This is absolutely a beautiful transformation Christy!! Huge undertaking no doubt, but so worth it!! Very soothing atmosphere!!🙌👍
Christy says
Thank you so much, Sandra! I think the fact that this set was so huge is what kept making me put it off, but it really wasn’t too bad! The excitement of seeing the end result was a great motivator! XOXO
Mazuryk says
Wow, I love it, so much better than new furniture, love, love, love!
Christy says
Thank you, Mazuryk! I agree…I don’t think I would have found anything that I liked as much if I had bought new! XOXO
Margie says
Absolutely gorgeous even better than I thought it would. You have a fabulous talent. I would have a hard time leaving that room 😏
Christy says
Thank you, Margie!! You are so kind! I do love going in there now!! XOXO
JAMALA WALLACE says
I usually cringe when I see painted wood but your items look fantastic..I can’t get over how beautiful your furniture looks with a fresh coat of paint. I’m actually glad you chose to keep it because the new furniture out is so pricey and not worth it. Your bedroom looks absolutely beautiful. Great choice on your chandelier… it’s perfect. Clapping big time on the makeover
Christy says
Thank you so much, Jamala!! I too am so glad I chose to try paint first. I don’t think I could find something new that I liked better if I tried! Choosing a light fixture was hard, but I’m really happy with this one! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Dianne says
Christy, this bedroom makeover is outstanding! I just can’t stop looking at it. The chandelier is so beautiful and goes perfectly in your room. Also thanks for the tip about your Dixie Belle price increase. I’ve tried the clear coat from your room at the Antique Mall and really like it so I’ll get some other products before the price goes up.
Christy says
Thank you, Dianne! Funny that this chandelier was hundreds of dollars less than many of the choices out there. It is so pretty! And you are welcome! It’s not a huge increase, but every dollar counts this time of year! XOXO
manelle says
Absolutely lovely! The shimmering Christmas additions are just perfect! Love that your wooden box turned out so well for the lamp problem! Also I really like the pop of wood your Estate table provides. It ‘grounds’ all of the white for me! Take a bow!
Christy says
Thank you, Manelle! I’m so glad you like the finished space, and yes, the box worked wonderfully! The estate sale table is safe from paint for now haha! XOXO
Cheryl says
What a difference paint makes!! I love it!!
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl!! XOXO
Petra says
Well what a difference 😀 . Absolutely gorgeous all of it – furniture, rug, light and that gorgeous tree with pops of red 😀 . Have a great weekend! xo
Christy says
Thank you, Petra! Enjoy some warm weather for us this weekend! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
OH MY GOSH Christy!! This is so pretty! I can’t believe how it went to so drab to so, well, Beautiful! What a transformation. Did you hand paint it all?? You need some wood accents. White washed or maybe Driftwood dry brushed wood accents? Whicker is coming back from the 80’s you know. I’m going to start calling you Cinderella. 🙂 haha. Love the Chandelier. Perfection!
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl!! I used a brush. but it wasn’t too bad at all. Listening to a few podcasts got me through it! Have a fantastic weekend!! XOXO
Mary McDonnell says
I am blown away with the beautiful transformation, Christy! It looks fabulous! I have wanted to redo/ paint my 1920’s bedroom set but didn’t want it to look like a little girl’s room. Your room definitely is elegant and chic! Perhaps I have a painting project on the horizon for this winter! Thanks for shari g all of your hard work. The results are fantastic!! Enjoy your holidays,
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Mary! I bet your set would be gorgeous painted! Enjoy your holidays as well! XOXO
Janet Schen says
Christy, it turned out so gorgeous! Love the white tree, too! Very elegant to have a Christmas tree in your bedroom. The entire room is just lovely!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Janet! I love having a tree in our bedroom…it is so cozy when it’s all lit up at night! XOXO
Patty says
Christy, the room is just gorgeous! It has a calming look – just so lovely – but I am not in the least surprised 🙂 I’m so glad that your sweet hubby is happy! Thanks for the info about the paint – that should get me on the ball to place my order sooner rather than later. Wishing you & your family a peaceful Christmas. XO
Christy says
Thank you, Patty! Although my Hubby would have lived with it either way, I am so glad he likes it too! And yes, get your order in before the prices go up. Merry Christmas to you and your family as well! XOXO
Becky says
Absolutely gorgeous!!! I wondered if the room would look a little washed out, going from all the dark wood to all white paint, but I figured Christy knows her stuff, this is going to be fabulous. And it is. 😊 Abso-bloomin’-lutely GORGEOUS!!! Well done!
Christy says
Aww yay! I’m so glad you like the finished result! Thank you, Becky!! XOXO
Jamie says
Beautiful room, Christy! Where did you get the lamps on your bedside tables?
Christy says
Thank you, Jamie! I found those at HomeGoods. XOXO
Donna says
The room is beautiful. The dressers oh my I can not believe how amazing they look. I love the room top to bottom! You have my brain going over here, I am thinking maybe some new year projects.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Donna! I am so pleased with how paint worked its magic in this room! XOXO
bev says
You are ammmmmazing! What a transformation. I love doing stuff like this, but I’m a bit intimidated when it comes to my bedroom furniture. Next tome my husband takes a trip, maybe I’ll muster up some courage, I can’t stand my dark, old fashioned bedroom furniture. Thanks for your great inspiration.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Bev! I’ll admit, this project seemed daunting to me as well, mostly the bed because of its size, but it wasn’t too bad at all! XOXO
Karine says
Perfect, fabulous, I loved everything!!!… and the Christmas touch is beautiful, it makes the place wonderful
Christy says
Thank you! Really enjoyed getting to add a little Christmas to our bedroom this year! XOXO
Sue Mellette says

Annie says
Wow, Christy!! You hit a home run on this makeover 💕
By the looks of all the amazing comments I think this might just be one of your most popular post.
Now I’m inspired to paint the bed in my spare room 😊
Christy says
Thank you so much, Annie!! I think you’re right! It is one of my favorites too! XOXO
Sue says
Absolutely awesome!!! I can’t wait to start on our bedroom set now. If I’m never heard from again, it means my husband didn’t like it!
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! Ha ha!! I bet he will love it…good luck!! XOXO
Ronda Olson says
Did you paint or paper the drawers? You have inspired me to paint my dark bedroom set. I have everything that I need and I’m starting tomorrow! Curious about drawers tho. Thanks
Christy says
Hi Ronda! I did not paint the drawers and I usually try not to if they are in good shape, so that the inner working of the drawers stay working smoothly. However, when I am painting a piece to sell, I almost always line the bottoms of the drawers with fabric just for a little extra wow. For my own set, I did not. I hope everything is going well so far! XOXO
Veronica says
It looks amazing! I came across your post, in my research to redo my bedroom set and I’m just wondering how long each piece took you to do? This will be my first time using chalk paint and I want to prepare myself time wise! Also, when you say you sanded all over, do you just run the sandpaper lightly all over and a little heavier in the areas you want to add detail too? Do you have a video or tutorial on the sanding part you could share? Again, the furniture looks amazing, hoping my pieces turn out nice, otherwise I’ll be having to fork out the $ for a new set!
Christy says
Thank you, Veronica! It took me about three or four days from start to finish, but that was with me painting all day a couple of those days. When I sanded after, I did exactly as you described. I sanded lightly across the entire surface and a little heavier on the areas I wanted to distress. To do that, I took a 1/4 of a sheet (I buy them in sheets and cut them in four.)of 220 grit sand paper and wrapped it around a foam sanding block. Then I ran it across each surface going in straight lines in the same direction that I painted. I don’t have a video, but I hope that helps! Good luck with yours!
Nikki says
Hi! Your furniture is beautiful! I just purchased a used bedroom suit and was wanting to paint it white. Do you have an update on how this paint and finish has held up? I was worried about the durability of the chalk paint.
Christy says
Hi Nikki! It has been six months since we painted our set and it still looks as good as the day I painted it! Not even a single scratch! XOXO
Aarsun Woods says
Wonderful and awesome!!! Thanks for sharing this post.
