Hello dear friends and happy Sunday!! All this week I am going to bring you the Posts of Christmas Past!
The minute I finished my last bite of Turkey, the attic stairs were flung open and Christmas bins were being thrown down! I need to let Thanksgiving have its day, but then it is GAME ON!
While I continue to deck the halls around here, I will be sharing some fun holiday oldies!
I’m starting with this super old chair project from way back in 2014:
This little chair was originally painted by my Mom. She had it stored in her attic and when she pulled it out, she realized that the red stain beneath had bled through in several places.
She offered it to me to fix up for my booth.
And fix it up is what I did! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
It wasn’t bad before, just too hard to cover the bleed-through without messing up the design on the top, so I had another idea.
Since the chair was already painted a creamy white, I taped off the legs and the back…
I gave it three coats of Behr’s Cherry Cobbler, which I made into DIY chalk paint. This was long before I discovered Dixie Belle, but Honky Tonk Red is very similar or Barn Red if you like your red with just a touch of black in it.
I found this clip art online while searching for “Merry Christmas Clip Art”:
It was perfect for the seat. I transferred the outline of the letters using the chalk method seen in this super ancient post and painted it in with watered down chalk paint. (Today, I would use acrylic craft paint as it goes on a bit more smoothly for these small details.)
I sanded, then sealed the whole chair with clear wax.
Much cuter as a Christmas chair, don’t you think?
I love the stripes!
So fun and petite enough to store away after the holidays!
At the time, I decorated with a more neutral palette, but I love pops of red for Christmas now, so I wish I had this back!
Brennan was only four when I originally shared this chair and he was so excited to see presents! He would have been very disappointed to find a box of light bulbs under that brown wrap! Ha ha!
Hope you enjoyed this little Christmas-inspired furniture makeover!
I’ll be back tomorrow sharing what I did with these mason jar lids and a just a few more supplies:
I hope to see you then!
UPDATE: Mason Jar Lids never looked so cute! See them HERE now!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

This chair is phenomenal. I would love to have it to sit by my electric fireplace during the Christmas holiday. It would be so beautiful, and it would draw everyone’s attention that’s for sure. Thank you for letting us know how it was done, just in case we run across a chair like this while thrifting. You did a marvelous job. Glad to see you kept up all the good work.
Christy says
Thank you, Jeannie! I sure wish I still had it! XOXO

Enjoyed the chair make-over. Don’t remember it but think it was before I started following you. So cute. Was surprised to hear from you today. I did place my order from you for my daughter-in-law’s Christmas. It’s already on the way which is so fast. Made shopping for her so easy.
Christy says
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Janice, thank you! I will be sharing each day this week. And I saw your order come through…what a fantastic gift for your daughter-in-law! XOXO

Oh isn’t that the cutest thing ever? Because I am a new reader I hadn’t seen it – and growing up on an island I cringed initially knowing that beautiful nautical directions thing was going to be covered up- but I really knew better. Nothing you “after” is EVER a disappointment. I think this chair is completely adorable. I am always happy to see your oldies. Thanks!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Michele! This was a fun oldie for sure! XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says
Cute!!!!

Thank you, Rose!! XOXO

Cute chair, although I wish I didn’t know there was a compass rose under there! I have a soft spot for all things nautical living here on the coast of Maine! Speaking of Christmas & nautical…I’ve been thinking about a “home” for your beach house sign….Don’t “we” know someone who is in the process of renovating a beach condo???? HO-HO-HO! : ) Looking forward to a week of Christmas postings! I’ve been pulling outdoor decorations out and will start decorating tomorrow…
Christy says
Aww yes… I really hated to paint over the original design, but mostly because my Mom painted it, but there was really no way to fix the bleed though. And yes, the beach sign would look great in Nancy’s beach house! Her place is really coming together now! Have fun decorating. XOXO
Ivory says
Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
Happy holidays
Christy says
Thank you, Ivory! XOXO

What a nice surprise to see a post from you on Sunday!! I love the makeover, especially the red stripes! You always find a way to take a plain Jane piece and turn it into a work of art! Thanks for sharing!! Looking forward to more Christmas inspiration. I really need that now!
Christy says
I’m so happy to be here on a Sunday too, Sue! Thank you so much, my friend! See ya tomorrow! XOXO

Sooo cute!! I definitely like it as a Christmas chair and the legs make it say “Christmas Elves”!!! Great re-do!!
