Hello lovely friends!! I hope everyone is still doing ok out there. We learned yesterday that restrictions will start to ease a bit in our area on Friday. I hope that means thrift stores!!
There are a few smaller, simple pieces in my Shop my own Garage Haul, and so I thought I would combine them and bring you another smalls post. Even though some of these aren’t so small, they are all pretty simple! There are four items from this haul and I am also sharing two additional items I have painted that were not included in my current haul:
Since most of these pieces are already in my booth, I’ll share what I priced them for also!
Let’s get right to it!
First up is this set of framed prints, originally from Kirklands, that I picked up for $15 for the pair at the thrift store:
I had just planned to give the frames a quick coat of Fluff and stick them in my booth, but my Mom claimed them before they made it there. I did get a chance to snap a couple of quick photos first though:
I quite liked the prints and the mats that were in them and I thought they could have more of a shabby chic vibe with the frames painted a simple white. I left the frames unsealed.
I probably would have priced these around $30 each.
Next up is this ornate box I teased on Tuesday that I found for $9.98 when I was last shopping with Nancy:
I really didn’t care for the finish on it, but the details were beautiful!
I painted it in French Linen:
I dry-brushed it in Cotton when it was dry to bring out some of those beautiful details:
This was my first time trying French Linen on something and I really like it! I sealed with Clear Coat in satin using the blue sponge.
I priced this box at $24.
Up next is this sad frame:
I have had this for years! It did have some old artwork in it, but it was Falling out. I got it from a yard sale where they were giving things away at the end of the day. It wasn’t the prettiest frame or in good shape at all, but I thought it might distress well, and of course, it was free! Funny how free things suddenly have a ton of potential!
I ended up painting it in a quick and not at all thorough coat of Cotton first, and then I followed it up with one coat of a 50/50 mix of Cotton and Vintage Duck Egg, leaving bits of white to show through here and there also.
Then I sanded it all over with 220 grit sandpaper to distress and let the original wood and the white show through. I sealed this with Clear Coat in Satin also. A rough old frame like this is perfect for this finish:
And as you can see, I turned it into a small chalkboard. And a thicker frame like this provides a perfect spot for the chalk to rest too!
You can see how I make my chalkboards HERE. I priced this one at $25.
Next up is this small lamp I picked up for $5, also while shopping with Nancy:
A simple coat of paint and a new shade I picked up at The Home Depot for $12 gave it new life:
That is more than I like to spend on a shade, but my options are limited at the moment. HomeGoods would have only been around $8 for that size if they had it in stock.
This was painted in Cotton and lightly distressed with 220 grit sandpaper. Then it was sealed in Clear Coat in satin.
I priced this one at $36.
Also found on my thrifting trip with Nancy, was this frame that I found half off for only $2:
There was absolutely nothing special about this frame except it was dark brown, which is a great base for distressing. I painted it similarly to the chalk board I shared above:
Holding a pic of my sweet babe at the beach makes it super special now!
And I love the beachy finish:
I actually photocopied this photo to stage it for my booth:
It’s been a while since I’ve shared a booth update. I’ll have to do that soon! I believe I priced this frame at $16 or $18.
And finally, I have this awesome chunky gold mirror I found for $16.98 in January:
I actually used it to stage my neighbor’s bedroom furniture that I painted in Sea Glass:
It got a couple of coats of Fluff:
Because it was gold to start, I used the distressing block trick (You can read more about that HERE!) to give it a distressed look:
This was also sealed with Clear Coat in satin. I priced that at $59.
I also found this awesome set of mirrors on that same trip:
However, they wanted $49 for each one. I might have paid that had I had a spot for them in my own home, but not for resale! Looking back, they were really cool!
And that’s how six ugly ducklings turned into fresh new decor!

Love it all – especially the box and the lamp. Well done :D. That little sideboard you’re going to do is so pretty – can’t wait to see it 😀
Christy says
Thanks again, my friend! I’ll be working on that little sideboard today! XOXO

Oh my goodness, I love it when you do the smalls!!! My favorite out of this batch is the ceramic urn with the cover you painted in French linen, so beautiful! I love the cotton dry brushed over it. I love all of the things you have redone, and your mom was so lucky to get the pictures, they are so beautiful. You are amazing!!
Christy says
Aww thank you, my sweet friend!! I enjoy the smalls too…quick and easy! And yes, my Mom nabbed those pictures right away ha ha! XOXO
Christina says
Wonderful makeovers Christy! My favorite is the lamp. I really like the dry brushing over the linen color on the one box.
Be well and have fun!
Christy says
Thanks, Christina! That box was so pretty under that weird paint job lol! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Pam Walsh says
Love all the small pieces especially the lamp!!! So pretty… looking forward to the next post! I have the same piece and keep going back and forth about what to do with it ?
Enjoy your weekend and take care,
Pam
P.S. You may have thriftitude (n.) – when you start to get grumpy and sassy because you miss going thrifting ????
Christy says
Thank you, Pam! I’ll be working on that piece today! And ha ha…that may very well be the case! XOXO
Maryellen Webber says
I love how you gave new life to all of the smalls you had! My absolute favorite is the box, I love the color. Thanks for the inspiration!
Christy says
Thank you, Maryellen! I do love that color too! XOXO

As restrictions have lifted a little, estate and tag sales and thrift stores have reopened as long as masks and social distancing are observed. There is a sale starting today, and your smalls projects are totally inspiring me to shop with an eye for good lines and details. I enjoy your posts, keep them coming!
Christy says
Oh yay! I hope you find some treasures…good luck! Thank you!! XOXO
Robin Stephens says
I’ve followed you for years, Christy. I’ve always wondered, “How DOES she do it?!” Now I know. You never eat or sleep! Per usual….good, good job!
Christy says
Oh ha ha! I do eat…that is for sure. Sleep is more of a struggle lol! Thank you, Robin! Have a great weekend! XOXO

Will you please come and paint everything in my house! I have several things I want to use chalk and am now completely motivated after watching your video on applying top coat. My first project will be bathroom cabinets made from oak. Before I make my purchase from your site, do you think the top coat product you used will be appropriate? I’ve put off the project because I am not a fan of the wax finish. Thanks so much, and keep posting those videos, especially your Goodwill trips. Lots of fun to watch.
Christy says
Oh ha ha! I was just thinking as I was photographing these items that a great idea for an HGTV show would be to go to people’s houses and help them update pieces they already have! If you are planning to use this paint in a bathroom, I would recommend the Gator Hide since it is water resistant. I’m not a fan of applying wax either. And just a head’s up that my items ship directly from Dixie Belle and they are delayed about a week in processing orders due to such high volume of online orders with everyone closing their doors. Glad you enjoy the videos…we love making them! XOXO
Denise Cox says
WOW, Christy!!! These were WICKED projects!!! My favorite was the box. I loved the color choices. I’ve been looking at French Linen myself and wasn’t sure that I liked it. But the way you used it, especially with the other color, was lovely! I’m pinning this! And it’s a great reference to see what some of the more popular colors look like. Thank – you.. 😘😊.
Christy says
Thanks so much, Denise! I’m glad you enjoyed this group! This was my first time using French Linen, so I wanted to try it out on something small and I really like it too! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Janice Holt says
Love every one of them as usual. I had trouble seeing your post Tues (kept getting an error) but finally did see it on FB. Beautiful table and bet it sells now even though I loved it before also. Stay safe and healthy.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! I’m sorry about Tuesday… I had accidentally scheduled my post for Wednesday morning and didn’t realize it until about 8am Tuesday. Glad you got to see it though. Yes, I think it will sell much more easily now! Enjoy your weekend! XOXO
Iris says
You are such an inspiration!! I love everything you do. I’m a new follower and I always look forward to your posts. Thanks so much for making my day!
Christy says
Oh I appreciate that so much, Iris! Thank you for making MY day! XOXO
Rosie says
Beautiful transformation to all!
Would love to come by your booth, if only I was close by. Great job! Have a good weekend🤗
Christy says
Thank you, Rosie! I wish you we’re closer to visit too! Enjoy your weekend as well! XOXO

enjoyed looking at your “smalls” collection. Each one is unique and turned out so pretty and fresh. I love the mirrors that you did as well as the covered box in linen. As always thanks for sharing your work. Tuesdays and Thursdays are my favorite days!!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, my sweet friend! I’m so glad you enjoyed this group. I love Tuesdays and Thursdays too because I get to hear from all of you! XOXO
Sharon says
Good morning, I look forward to ever single email you send. You are a beautiful inspiration and sooooo gifted. Stay safe and well. 🥰❤️🙏 Sharon
Christy says
I appreciate that so much, Sharon! Thank you! XOXO
Rebecca says
Love them!!! I think the sideboard is actually the lower half of a high boy. Some people call it a low boy. But because most people don’t use high pieces and they are easily separated, it’s not unusual to have one without the other. Still practical!! 😂
Christy says
Thanks, Rebecca! And yes… I think you’re absolutely right! Thank you! XOXO
Donna says
I loved how you revamped all the small items!! Keeps me motivated to update some of my things. I sure hope the thrift stores get to open up soon too. My daughter has started to do some refinishing of furniture now that school is fine for her and I would show her “look what Christy has done with this”. She likes your style too! Have a good weekend!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Donna! Well you know where I’ll be tomorrow LOL! Thanks for sharing my posts with your daughter! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Hi friend! i love every one of them. Love that French Linen. I haven’t tried that one either. You didn’t say what you priced the lamp for. Well my booth opened up Monday and you can definitely tell people were ready to shop. I sold several pieces in 5 days. I sold my American Flag dresser finally. I knew someone would come along. I was just about to repaint it. I used the Re-design with Prima American flag transfer. Well I’m going to go back and look at all of your past smalls. I need inspiration and you definitely give it to me. Stay safe and well yourself!
Christy says
Hi Cheryl! Thank you! Congratulations on your sales… I know that feels good! I should have linked to my past smalls post at the bottom of this one. I didn’t even think about it LOL. I hope you have a blessed weekend and I hope you sell lots more stuff! XOXO
Christy says
Oh and the lamp is priced at $36! 😊
Carla says
Oh, how I love the smalls!! They all look amazing, but I’m especially admiring the container in French Linen.
Christy says
Thank you, Carla! I’m not sure what that original paint job was all about LOL! XOXO
Lizzy says
I love them all, but the lamp is my favorite. Beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you, Lindsey! Painted up super cute! XOXO
Christy says
Ack! Lizzy! Sorry I’m using talk to text ha ha! 😜
Lizzy says
Lol. That’s ok!
Patti says
Hi Christy! I love the ornate box and I am wondering if you did anything to the inside, as it looks like the top is removable. I just love all of your diy-ing…you’re my favorite of the blogs I follow! Great talent!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Patti! I never even thought to show the inside…it was painted a pretty gold metallic already, so I just left it. 🙂 XOXO
Ellen Shook says
My furniture book from design school says that piece is called a lowboy, and if it had the tall chest sitting on top, it is called a highboy. Ha! Are you still shipping paint orders? I am going to make an order this weekend for a few things in the dixie belle line. I didn’t know because of the pandemic … thought I had better ask first. BTW I ordered those dolly wheels you told us about, and they have changed my life! I have about finished reupholstering a sofa (pandemic boredom) and they were a lifesaver.
Christy says
Thank you, Ellen! I can totally see that now! I appreciate the info. Yes I am open for business. Processing is delayed about 5-7 days due to such an increase in online orders, but we are definitely still shipping! I’m so glad the dolly wheels have been helpful. I don’t know what I would do without mine! XOXO
ROSE LEFEBVRE says
They all look so lovely! I am crazy for the lamp.
Christy says
Thank you, Rose! Those details really painted up nicely! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
I’m sure those small incidentals really help with sales! I appreciate you including your selling price on each. I love French Linen, especially mixed with a tad of Cotton. Your work is stunning.
Christy says
Oh yes, the smalls certainly do add up! And you are welcome, I am happy to share the prices. The French linen is just lovely! Thank so much, my friend! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Your mother has the best interior designer, doesn’t she? 😂 I think the lamp has to be my favorite in this haul.
Christy says
Ha ha she sure does! I always check out the lamp aisle! 🙂 XOXO
