Welcome back, thrifty friends!!
On Tuesday I finally shared my Mother’s Day haul and what a haul it was!! Today, I’m sharing what I found on my first thrifting day out post shut-down. I’ll be working on both of these hauls simultaneously since one is mostly larger furniture pieces that need some TLC and the other is all smalls.
I teased y’all with this shopping cart loaded down from that first day back thrifting:
This is my favorite thrift store closest to my house and it took a while to finally open back up. However, they had still been accepting donations so I knew it would be loaded down with goodies. I just happened to be driving by the first day it opened and I had to stop! I had missed thrifting SO much!
Here’s everything I found that day.
My first find was this clock:
It is a great size, especially for $6.25. That is a fantastic deal for a pretty good sized clock!
I always browse the basket aisle and I found this small picnic basket for $4.95:
I found two ironstone pieces. The first was this very large pitcher that likely went with a bowl:
I paid $6.25 for it. Aren’t those details so pretty?
The second ironstone piece I found was this tea pot that matches a pattern I already have several pieces of, also for $6.25:
I picked up this sweet coaster set for $2.25 and I actually already have a plan for it:
This olive tree is looking a bit sad, but I was drawn to it for some reason:
For $6.25, I decided to bring it home and see if I could do anything with it.
I am always a sucker for metal baskets, and on this trip, I spotted three of them!
First up is this one that has a cute shape to it:
It was only $2.25.
Next up is this very heavy duty industrial looking one I picked up for $8.25:
That’s a lot more than I would normally pay, but I noticed some things weren’t priced quite as reasonably as they usually are and I really liked this one!
And finally, this one is my favorite of the bunch:
It looks like it might have some age to it. It was $6.25.
I also found this pretty, decorative bottle for $2.25:
I’ll probably just stick that one in my booth as is.
Same with these little ceramic starfish I found for $2.25 for the pair:
I also found this silver tray for $2.25:
I see these trays all the time, but I love when they have feet!
Next is this set of bookends:
Looking at that price tag of $7.25, I must have been high on thrifting after not having been able to for months, that I didn’t even care! I know I’ll make my money back when I sell them though!
This gold box is one I’ve redone in the past:
It sold quickly, so I grabbed this one too! Not too bad at $5.25, and all it needs is a quick paint job.
And finally, the last piece I found on that day was this pretty shelf:
It was only $3.95.
These next two pieces were not part of that day’s haul. I picked these up just prior to the shut-down.
The first is this wooden box I bought for $3.25:
And how about another basket? I passed on this the first time I saw it when it was $5.25, but I picked up on the next trip when it was 50% off:
I love the shape of it and the base is the ideal color for paint!
And that is my Post Shut-down Thrift Store Haul! I will work on these smaller pieces in between furniture pieces since I have a feeling those are going to be time-consuming and I will be ready for a few simple smalls. Plus, my booth is in dire need of some smaller items!
Oh and that poly-fil was $2.25…not super cheap, but I always like to keep some on hand and my supply is low.
I hope it was fun seeing everything I found on my first trip back thrifting!
I started prepping this tall dresser from my Mother’s Day Haul yesterday:
It’s looking (and smelling) better already! I’ll see y’all back here on Tuesday with the reveal if all goes well!
UPDATE: All went well and it is a beauty now!! See it HERE! 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend, and to my friends in the US, Happy Independence Day!! Be safe!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Hello from Australia!
Hi Christy, I am a newcomer to your blog and I just LOVE YOUR WORK!
One quick question: do you paint the underside of your “smalls ” eg trays, boxes, silverware, baskets etc? Whatever you do, I’m sure to do the same!
Thanks, Sarah 😊
Christy says
Hi Sarah from Australia!! My Dad is an Aussie..born and raised in Sydney, and we lived near Perth when I was a child for a couple of years. Thank you so much! Regarding painting the underside of things…if an item is in really great condition on the bottom, and there is a clear line to stop the paint, I may not paint it, but I usually do! XOXO
Mary Kasier says

I so enjoyed looking at what you thrifted. As I saw an item that I liked I would say to myself I’d have bought that, and then I see another one that I liked & say the same thing. I kept doing this. It was like going shopping with you and you were showing me each item that you were going to buy. Thank you for taking time to do this post!
Christy says
I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing what I found and “shopping with me”, Becky! XOXO

Nice finds. Some of our thrifts have beenopen for 5 weeks. But prices have definitely gone up. And one of our favorites is closed permanently.
Christy says
I noticed our prices had really gone up too, and I’m so sad to hear one of yours didn’t make it! XOXO

I always have the same thought when I look through these posts, I want to go to YOUR Goodwill! Mine never has cute things like you find and certainly not at those prices! I so love the metal baskets and can’t wait to see what you do with them. The pitcher is super cute also!
Christy says
We are very lucky here to have such nice things donated. It helped that they had a lot of inventory from being closed, but still accepting donations. I found lots of goodies especially on this trip! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
Oh fun fun fun! I shared my latest thrifting trip today too! Lol xoxo
Christy says

Addie says
Hello!!! Nice haul!!!
I am betting the last, your favorite, wire basket is an egg gathering basket.
I pick those up too!!! I love them. I have them tucked in all over my yard. There is an old idea?…saying??? tradition??? That I love and I do with them.
I think it is in the Bible or at least biblical times people did this. Whenever you get an answer to prayer you stack a rock. Well, I never could get them to stay stacked….so I put them in a wire basket!!! Then during times that are under stress, you can see the stacks or baskets and see how God came through before…AND He will again…keep the faith!!!! The baskets are “see through” so you see all the prayers answered and the rain/snow just falls off!! Prayers answered can be big or little…an answer is an answer!!!!
God Bless!!!!….
Christy says
Thank you, Addie!! I think you are right about that basket. It is really neat in person! Oh I never knew that about the rocks. Is that why we sometimes see them stacked in people’s yards? I love that, and I love your idea to collect them in baskets!! XOXO
Addie says
Originally yes!!!! …about seeing stacks. But I wouldn’t be surprised if people do it now just because they think it looks cool. Out walking my dog, I have seen some. If I see the people I ask if they know….some do and some don’t. Most of the ones that don’t say they are going to start!!!
Christy says
Yes you are probably right, but I love the original idea and looks like the people you talk to do also! XOXO
Margie says
I always look forward to your “hauls”. I have a pitcher that’s more on the gray side that was my grandmothers just waiting for inspiration,so you probably are going to be it. Happy 4th.
Christy says
Oh yay…I’m so glad you enjoy seeing what I found! I have a sweet reader who is interested in purchasing the pitcher. I don’t know how you feel about painting your Grandmother’s pitcher, but white gloss spray paint does wonders! I used it on a pitcher here: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/easy-pitcher-update-and-spring-in-the-dining-room/ Happy 4th to you and yours too! XOXO
Vicki says
Great finds! I pretty much always expect cheaper prices at thrift stores, but I know I would probably pay more if the same item was at an antique/vintage store! You found some really nice things, I also love metal baskets! Enjoy your makeovers!
Christy says
Thanks, Vicki! I agree… I also expect things to be cheap at thrift stores, but I also know I would pay way more elsewhere! I was really excited to come across those baskets! XOXO
elaine says
I always enjoy seeing your hauls, one item at a time and the price you paid. Also enjoy seeing how you redo them.
Christy says
Thank you, Elaine! I’m so glad you enjoyed this post. I always enjoy sharing my finds! XOXO
ColleenB.~Tx. says
You hit the Jackpot when it came to finding & getting some wonderful items. I love them metal baskets but then I can’t turn down a basket of any kind.
I can’t wait to see the make-overs that you will be doing with your new treasures.
Stay safe, stay healthy and have a wonderful weekend.
Have a safe 4th of July
Christy says
Ooh I sure did! I love metal baskets too and was surprised to find three of them! Have a safe and happy 4th too! XOXO
Janina says
Well thanks for that! I needed it. It was (almost) as good as going to my favourite thrift stores myself! And it didn’t cost me a dime. Lol!
Christy says
You are so welcome, Janina! Ha ha! Glad you could come shopping with me!! XOXO
Susan says
I think that last metal basket is an egg basket.
Christy says
Yep…I think you are right…that’s my favorite of the bunch! XOXO
Melanie says
I have spent the last 4.5 hours on your website. Just yours! Everything is beautiful, I’m in awe of it all. Where are you shopping? Kansas? I’m so sorry n Minnesota and our thrift stores, FB sites all want such high prices it’s truly not worth the time and products to flip anything. It’s actually sad because a lot of people don’t have money to even shop the thrift stores up here.
Christy says
Oh my goodness, ha ha! It is easy to get lost down the rabbit hole! I am in Virginia Beach, and we have a huge military population here, which means lots of people moving in and out. I think that really helps to keep our thrift stores well stocked! Our prices have gotten higher since things have opened up after Covid, and there are some thrift stores here that are crazy high too. I just avoid those! XOXO
