Hello lovelies! As I continue to take it easy on my back, I’m bringing y’all a smaller makeover, but it’s a brand new one! How about a repurposed cabinet door project using this cabinet door from my current haul?
It came out of our kitchen a few years ago when we redid it:
Nice…a sea of dark and dreary!
I removed those two cabinet doors above the stove to build a custom range hood instead.
See what our kitchen looks like now HERE!
I did something with the mate to it a couple of years ago, but this one was still hanging around.
Paint
After a quick cleaning with White Lightning and a good rinse…
I gave this door two coats of Fluff white:
Sand
Then I followed up with a good sanding with 220 grit sanding paper to smooth everything out and distress just a bit.
I paint in white a lot not only because I would paint everything white if I could, but it also sells the fastest for me AND it is almost always a great backdrop for transfers!
Adding a transfer
I’ve wanted to use this sweet Delicate Roses mini transfer on something and this was just the piece!
Roses add such a feminine feel and I really love taking something very dark and hard edged like this cabinet door to something soft and lovely!
Most of these mini transfers have several pieces you can add and layer as you go. I started by cutting most of the pieces apart, and then I arranged them how I wanted them.
Then I started with what would make sense to be on the bottom of the layers:
To apply a transfer, pull off the backing, line up your transfer, and then use the included tool to burnish the image onto your surface. Basically, you are just rubbing the back with a little pressure until the image releases. Then, peel the top clear layer off and your image should have transferred to your surface. If not, lay it back down and rub some more.
I continued to layer on the transfer pieces until I was satisfied.
Seal with Clear Coat
Then, I sealed with Clear Coat in Satin using the blue sponge applicator:
They start out round, but I cut mine along one edge so that I can get right up against straight edges more easily.
And finally, I added an ornate hanger that I bought at Hobby Lobby years ago. I painted it in Fluff also and then distressed it. I brushed on Clear Coat to seal. I also added two sawtooth hangers to the back for hanging.
Repurposed Cabinet Door, the After
Here is how this once very masculine cabinet door looks now!
Now it’s pretty!
I mostly layered the single pieces here and I could have kept adding!
I still had all these larger pieces left over:
This hook is so pretty and I’ve had it for years, but I only had the one…
It’s perfect on this door.
Also, there was no need to fill the hole from the knob since the transfer covered it right up!
We could have easily tossed these doors, and my trust me, my hubby would have if I let him, but now this one is totally functional again!
Find this and over a hundred more transfers in my Etsy shop HERE!
Can anyone remember what I did with the other cabinet door that was above the stove??
See what I did with it HERE!
I get to cross another project off the list…and B-I-N-G-O!!

It is so pretty now, you would never know that it was so dark before. I love the hook and the transfers, so beautiful now! I hope your back continues to get better.
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I’m so glad I finally did something with it ha ha! My back is doing better each day…just trying to ease back into it. 🙂 XOXO

Janice Holt says
What a cute wall hanging this turned out to be. I had to look back to see what you had done with the other one. Two cute wall hanging from something that could have been trashed. Hate your back is still bothering you. Just continue to take care of it.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! Yes, I was so excited to use them both up! And my back is getting better but I’m just trying not to push it. 🙂 XOXO
Jenny says
What beautiful transformation from “trash to treasure”!! Oh, I have one of those dark gloomy kitchens with “Honey Oak”. Boy I wish I could paint them and not see the wood grain.
As always, great job!!
Im praying your back pain goes away!!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Jenny! Painting our kitchen made such a difference for sure! XOXO
Dawn Shelley says
Yes Christy….I remember! You turned it into Christmas decor! I believe it was a countdown thingy
(For lack of better words lol). All nicely striped in red n white etc! Am I correct?
Christy says
Yes! I was so excited to be able to repurpose them both! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
So beautiful, Christy, no one would know it was a previously unloved cabinet door! And layering the transfers gives them even more impact. Yeah, that one’s not going to stick around long. Take care and feel better.
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie! I think this one will go quickly too! Appreciate the well wishes, my friend! XOXO
Denise - Salvaged Inspirations says
Perfect use for that single hook and the florals are beautiful! Take good care of your back, my friend. XOXO
Christy says
Thank you so much, my friend! I am slowly easing back into it and my back is getting better each day! XOXO
Cyndi says
Oh, that is SO pretty! It looks like you might have cut the transfers where the cabinet door had a sharp edge. Is that correct or does it just look that way? How do you do that?
Christy says
Thank you, Cyndi! I did not cut the transfer this time, just carefully burnished each edge as I went, but I have cut them apart before and then just matched the pattern back up. This one did actually split a bit at that lower lefthand corner and I just added a single leaf over the top to camouflage. 🙂 XOXO
Susan says
This turned out so cute! I was thinking that since you took that cabinet out over the stove, that would’ve made a cute little bench. What did you end up doing with the cabinet itself?
Christy says
Thank you, Susan! The cabinet box is still there, I just built onto it. 🙂 XOXO
Nancy@Artsy Chicks Rule says
Love it!! So sweet and feminine. Hope you are back to your old self soon!! Back injuries are tough!! Hugs xoxo
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! This one just wants to linger lol, but it is slowly getting better! Appreciate it, my friend! XOXO
Gloria says
Always love getting your emails to see your lasted project.
I have a question for you. I bought a jar of Boss I want to use on a piece of furniture that is the shiny mahogany that came from Bombay stores.
What kind of prep do I have to do before I paint this type of furniture. Thank you in advance. Gloria
Christy says
Thank you so much, Gloria! Those super slick surfaces can benefit from a little sanding first or you can use Slick Stick to prep. Either will work to help your paint adhere well! XOXO
ROBIN says
I LOVE THAT, VERY BEAUTIFUL. I WOULD HAVE MY BRACELETS OR MY NECKLACES ON THE HOOK.
I HOPE WITH EACH DAY YOU ARE HEALING. I ALSO, HOPE THAT YOU GET WELL ENOUGH FOR HALLOWEEN….I SO LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR DECORATING YOUR HOUSE.
Christy says
Thank you, Robin!! I hear you…I want to get up in the attic and pull ALL the halloween things down right now! I’m taking it easy for a few more days though, so I can hopefully get well enough to decorate!! XOXO
Charleen says
So CUTE!!!! This would be so sweet in a young girls room. Charming. Take care and don’t rush back to haulin’ stuff .!
Christy says
Thank you, Charleen! It would for sure! The perfect landing spot for those tutus! And I am trying to be good ha ha! XOXO
Petra says
I really like that. The hook is gorgeous too! And yes, everything is better in white! Actually if it sits still long enough in my house, it gets painted white ☺️😝
Christy says
Thank you, Petra! Ha ha same!! Better not sit still too long around here either! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Hi Christy! I sure hope you feel better soon. I remember the first time I saw you upcycle a cabinet door. I was in love and had to find some, so thanks to you I have upcycled and sold many. This one is very pretty. I think it was your countdown to Christmas one you did. I don’t remember.
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! I appreciate that. I’m so glad you are having success with cabinet doors… they are perfect for so many upcycles! XOXO
