Hello amazing friends! Today I’ve got a repurposed cigar box from my latest haul to share with you!
I found it at the thrift store for $3.75 and it started out like this:
I always look for small boxes when thrifting and this one was in great condition! The possibilities are endless!
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Paint
After giving this box a good wipe down, I painted the inside with this gorgeous blue-gray color, Savannah Mist:
When that was dry, I painted the outside also. I ended up giving the entire box two coats.
Then I lightly sanded the surfaces with 220 grit sandpaper to smooth out the finish.
Embellishments
While everything was drying, I looked through my stash of supplies for something pretty I could embellish the top with.
I absolutely love these decor moulds!
I used this Amazing Casting Resin that is so easy to use! Just add equal amounts of both of the liquids in the pack to a cup and give them a good stir.
I immediately poured it into the moulds:
You can find the one I’m pouring the resin into HERE. I use that one often, but for this project, I ended up using one from the top mould and a couple of pieces from the bottom mould.
It takes about 10-15 minutes for them to completely firm up.
I painted them before attaching them to the top of the box:
I painted several options to see which ones I would like best.
Once I decided on which pieces to use, I adhered them to the top of the box with E6000 glue and let them dry overnight.
I painted some of the pieces white first and they were just too stark against the Savannah Mist, so I instead opted to just dry brush them with Cotton white paint over the blue.
Then, I followed up with white Best Dang Wax to seal, applying it with my Best Dang Brush:
I buffed it back with a clean soft cloth and this makeover was nearly complete!
Let’s see the after and then we can check out what else I added to this sweet box!
Repurposed Cigar Box: The After
It no longer resembles a cigar box now!
The resin pieces really gave the top dimension!
The lighting in those first two photos makes the color appear more blue than it is. Savannah Mist is more gray blue like the photo below:
And you can see one of the details I added after was this simple row of dots using my stylus tool:
I also added a pull from my stash that I painted white…
The Inside
Here is the inside before:
And after…
You can see I added one of the resin pieces inside also. That metal thing that was on there had left a sticky residue, so I just covered it right on up!
And for the inside of the bottom, I used FrogTape to add stripes:
I also added a small transfer:
My favorite part though might be the sweet feet:
I had fun reimagining this one!
I’ve got three boxes in this haul. One down, two to go!

Ei Conklin says
This is just gorgeous! I see nice boxes but assume that the work involved to make them as fabulous as this can cannot be recouped. How do you price this for your booth?
Christy says
Thank you, Ei! I usually price my boxes between $35 and $45 depending on the size. This didn’t take too long to redo at all and all the components do add up, but if you are able to use them for multiple projects, you’ll recoup your money. The resin, for example, makes a ton of those small embellishments. XOXO

It’s lovely, Christy! The feet, the appliques, the transfer (and, of course, the stripes 😉) all work together so beautifully. I thought it was a flatware box from the outside. So much better though, with no stinky innards to rip out!

Hello my friend and another great save.
Everyone is talking about the feet and I am no exception.
Always loved when you would do this and that color is to die for. I have a lot of it around my house. Is both boys going? Well you have a wonderful time.😍
Christy says
Thank you so much, Bonnie! The feet add so much for sure! It will mostly be just my hubby and my youngest, but Jack will be driving down from college to spend one night with us! XOXO
Robin says
Great job, Christy. I’m a fan of less is more, though. I would have left the corners alone and just had a medallion on top since you added the pretty feet, dots, and handle. The inside is nice.
Christy says
I appreciate your honesty, Robin! It felt kind of naked to me still, but it is hard sometimes to know when to stop lol! XOXO
Sue H Mellette says
Christy, you are so creative as well as talented. What a delightful makeover! I love all the details you added to the top of box, but also inside. I am always curious what you decide to do to the inside, whether it is a cabinet or drawer. The stipes and transfer make such a statement. Of course, I too, love the feet and the dots along the front! This will be a treasure for some lucky person! Have a great weekend.
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Sue! Those surprise details are the most fun sometimes! XOXO
Patty says

Have an awesome vacation…you definitely deserve it 😉
Christy says
Thank you, Carroll! That box is definitely living its best life now ha ha! And thank you…looking forward to some fun!! XOXO

This is just beautiful. Those feet are perfect. Where did you find the fleur de lis mould on the inside of the box? I didn’t see it on any of the moulds shown. It would be perfect for a small buffet project I’m working on and I’d love to find it. You scored a 10 on this perfect little treasure box!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Claudia! I just hadn’t gotten to your comment yet ha ha! I responded on Etsy, but just in case, you can find that mould here: https://amzn.to/3LL8WEA Have a fantastic weekend! XOXO

I love it; boxes are one of my favorite things to do; they’re so versatile and they don’t require too much commitment LOL. Been wanting to try my hand at resin for a while now. Maybe this will inspire me! 🙂
