Hello amazing friends!! I really missed y’all last week! Today, I’ve got two repurposed picture frames coming your way! They are the final two pieces left from my huge Summer 2021 Haul!!
Can you believe it?? I started with ALL THIS STUFF:
And I’m down to two piddly frames!
A few pieces from this haul came from an estate sale my sister’s in-laws had HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Repurposed Picture Frames
After the sale was over, my sister grabbed three pictures for me including one that I turned into my Fall wreath, and these two misfits:
Repurposed Frame #1
Up first is this gem:
It’s plastic, but it does have some really pretty details!
I started by removing the artwork from both frames and giving them a good cleaning with White Lightning:
I changed out my water for clean water and gave them another wipe down to remove any residue and these frames were ready for paint!
This one got two coats of Driftwood:
All those details were perfect for white wax! I applied it with my Best Dang Brush:
I removed the excess with a soft, clean cloth:
Then I went back and lightly sanded also, and that was that.
I cut hardboard to fit the frame and turned it into a chalkboard.
See how I make my chalkboards here.
The after:
So pretty in Driftwood with the white wax!
Up close…
You can see where I sanded it a little here and there also.
Chalkboards are still selling, so I’ll keep making them!
Frame Makeover #2
The second picture would have fit in our parent’s kitchen perfectly in 1987:
2021? Not so much.
After removing the Duck family portrait and cleaning the frame, I gave it three coats of Cotton:
(This first coat was actually Fluff, but I switched to Cotton.)
When that was dry, I sanded it with 220 grit sandpaper…
Then I sealed with clear wax.
When I was deciding what to do with this frame, I remembered the leftover tile from our kitchen floor install. Four pieces fit almost perfectly in the frame opening side by side. I did have to cut the length a bit though which I used my tile saw for:
Then I laid them in the opening of the frame. There was a tiny bit of space on either end which I filled with narrow strips of wood I cut to fit to keep the tile from shifting side to side:
The tile wasn’t completely level with the frame, so I added a thin piece of ply (that was originally the backing off of these mirrors I shared a couple of weeks ago)…
Then I cut a bit thicker piece of ply called luan to fit the bottom:
I screwed that into the bottom of the frame to hold the tile securely in place:
It’s a big tray! (And those are some sexy slippers!)
I originally cut a remnant of fabric to cover the bottom that worked so well with the weathered tile, but I ended up cutting it too small dang it. Measure twice, cut once.
So I just ended up painting the bottom and then added these felt discs to protect furniture from the screws I added to the bottom…
The After
Now this frame has new life as a tray!
I figured it didn’t really need grouted since it just looks like wood planks…
The handles came from Hobby Lobby…
I love these because they can be attached with any screws. I did pre-drill my holes first so the wood wouldn’t split when I screwed the handles in place.
This chunky frame made for a fantastic tray!
And it matches our kitchen floor!
And that’s the two final pieces of this humongous haul complete!!
Crossing off the last item is so SWEET!

I’m working on a new haul. I have several furniture pieces, so I need a few smaller things to mix in there. I have a really fun theme for this next haul, so stay tuned for that!!
Hopefully, I’ll be ready to photograph it and share it all by next week.
In the meantime, I’ll be back with my Furniture Fixer Upper girls on Thursday with this brand new find I picked up at the thrift store for only $35:
See y’all then!!
UPDATE!! You have to come see how this dresser turned out!! See it HERE now!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Yay your back!! I missed you last week! I love how both of these frames turned out. How fun that you are working on a new haul, can’t wait to see it. That dresser is a nice size and I am looking forward to seeing what magic you will do on it! I am so happy that your back!
Christy says
Aww I am SO happy to be back too!! It was a very quiet week around here! I’m hoping to get my new haul photographed soon…just hunting for a couple more pieces! See ya Thursday, my friend! XOXO

I LOVE the tray!! If I had the tools, I’d try to make one myself!!! It’s lovely!!! As for the first tray, as always, I love the details on anything. I like Driftwood, but Cotton is ALWAYS my favorite! I think in the two years I’ve been following you, this has been my FAVORITE haul.. ❤️🦇👻🎃
Christy says
Thank you so much, Denise! I was so happy to be able to use up some of that leftover tile for this tray! And this was such a great haul to work on too because unlike past hauls, most everything was something I acquired this year! XOXO
Janice Holt says
So glad you are back. Me and my granddaughter looked at your Halloween decorations together. I loved the sewing machine and knew you would think of something to do with it. Had to chuckle at the “duck family” in today’s post. They were in style at one time for sure. Good job as always on the two frames.
Christy says
Yay thank you, Janice!! I’m so glad you and your granddaughter enjoyed looking at the decorations together! That machine was such a good fit for my display! XOXO
Christina says
Welcome back! 🙂 Love these frames! Brilliant use of the tile and adapting it to the frame. I hope the tray finds a home in your kitchen. 🙂 I love chalkboards also so that is a beauty.
Have a wonderful week and give Lyla some lovins for me!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! I’m trying hard to keep the tiled tray lol! Lyla thanks you for the love! XOXO
Denise - Salvaged Inspirations says
Love both of them my friend… and I think I had a pair of those sexy slippers at one point too! 😂 XOXO
Christy says
Thank you, Denise!! Those are my favorite slippers lol…when I’m not in flip flops, I’ll be in those lol! XOXO

What a tremendous feeling of joy to finish this huge pile! It has everything imaginable! Have you had a good October in your booth? From what I’m hearing, this month has been very slow. Hopefully, buyers are saving up for Christmas goodies at our malls! Have a good week making over that chest!
Christy says
Oh my goodness, yes!! I can hardly believe this haul had so many pieces in it! My booth has still been selling paint products and smalls, but I don’t have much in the way of furniture in there at the moment. I am typically slow when the weather is nice outside though…everyone is doing yard clean up, etc and enjoying the nice weather. It will pick up here as folks are looking to get out of the cold. Hoping for a successful holiday season for us all! XOXO

Love both makeovers! The first one looks great as a chalkboard. And like you said, you make it, they will buy it. I do like the color you used as well. The second frame make the perfect tray. I like the idea of using left over flooring for the insert. The white really brings out the color of the insert for a nice contrast. Thanks as always for sharing EVERY detail! Can’t wait to see what you share Thursday! Have a great week.
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! I was so glad to be able to use up some of that extra tile! Have a great day and I’ll see ya on Thursday! XOXO
Addie says
Congrats on finishing the haul….that was quite a bit!!!!
Best part was the slippers!!!! keep up the good work and get out there and go shopping!!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Addie!! I love those slippers lol! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Another haul done! I cannot believe that first frame is plastic. It looks fabulous with the paint. And I don’t think we’ve seen a tray in a long time – the floor tiles were a great idea for that one (and yes, it does look like wood planks 😁)
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie! I’m not sure I would have grabbed either of those myself, but I’m glad I was able to use them! Our floor totally looks like wood…but nope, tile lol! XOXO
Kimmylouwho says
Congratulations on finishing that haul! You are an inspiration for all of us procrastinators! Your tray using leftover tile was so timely for me. We just redid our guest bathroom and I have some beautiful Mexican tile left over. What a great idea. Thanks!
Christy says
Thank you! It’s hard to believe this haul is done when I look back at that photo lol. And ooh yes…I bet that tile would make for a gorgeous tray!! XOXO
Robin says
Both nice as usual although the tray took quite a bit of work ;).
Can’t wait to see the new haul, though!
Christy says
Thanks, Robin!! XOXO
Lori says
I never would have thought to make a frame into a tray.
Now I’m thinking of the frames I have stashed……..
Christy says
Ooh yes! They make great trays! XOXO
Carolyn Lacy says
How do you get the old smell out of dressers?
Christy says
Hi Carolyn! I use BOSS in the clear formula. You can see where I used it on this super stinky, musty dresser, and there is a link to it there as well…it dries clear and matte. https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/how-to-paint-an-antique-dresser/ Hope this helps! XOXO

Love the look and smoothness in navigating your new site! (iOS platform here) I’ll say it again, although I know ads generate money, it is SOOO nice not to have pop ups, sidebars, and videos covering content. I’ll make sure to click on the ads tastefully done at the bottom on this site, just for that reason.
Still one of my favorite old Home Interior items, that ornate frame will never grow old! I’ll always love it.
What you did with the 2nd frame is the PERFECT example of why to save those scraps and extras. My goodness these are both lovely makeovers. The instructions on everything you do are so complete. Not to mention your time spent responding to every comment. I know it’s time consuming, but it sets you apart from EVERYONE else. Thank you! It’s noticed and so very appreciated. That is why yours is the only DIY Blog I subscribe to (said that before too).
Sorry for the loooong post. xoxoxox
Christy says
Thank you SO much, Jackie!! I thought that was a Home Interiors piece but I wasn’t sure. The frame on it sure was pretty! I truly appreciate your kind words…thank you!! XOXO
Peggy says
Christy, you are skilled, talented, and blessed with creative energy. Love the picture frames!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Peggy! XOXO

Christy
Thanks for the video on cheater distressing. I’ve seen it on so many pieces but was afraid to try and now I see how easy it is!! Thanks. AND I had braces when I was in my early 40s. Hated the process but LOVE the results. You will be happy you did it.
Christy says
My pleasure, Kathryn! It is a fantastic way to get that distressed look! And it’s nice to know I’m not alone ha ha! I can see now how my crooked teeth were damaging each other as they were, so it will be good for oral health too. Hoping I don’t have too much longer! XOXO
