Hello, lovelies!! I’m back today with piece number two of my newest haul from the Storage Room Haul of Shame!
When my old neighbor put her house on the market, she was selling several pieces of furniture. I bought this dresser from her that I often use for staging. She also had a sewing machine table that she was selling. I passed on it when I bought the dresser because I already had two in my stash at the time, but I told her that if she still had it before moving and just wanted to unload it, give me a call.
And that’s how I ended up with this piece:
I’ve been waiting for inspiration to strike for almost two years now!
Finally, it has a whole new look!
Better, no?
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
I had a few scraps of the French Ceramics transfer I used on this desk and mirror left over, and I was able to piece them together to add a little pretty to this piece!
I used it with white paint on the first two pieces, but it works great paired with navy also.
This color is In the Navy from Dixie Belle.
It gave great coverage with one coat, but I gave it two. ( Find those furniture wheels HERE!)
Since the background of the door needed to be white for the transfer, I decided to prime it with BOSS in white to prevent bleed-through first…
This is after two coats. I let it dry overnight and then decided that I didn’t even need to paint! I put the transfer right over the top of the BOSS:
The instructions don’t say you have to seal over the transfers, but for a little added protection I sealed with Dixie Blittle Clear Satin Topcoat, using their sponge applicator:
Pouring some in a small bowl to dip the sponge in helps to give a nice even coat, and you can rinse and reuse the sponge over and over again!
(Those scratch marks across the roses are part of the transfer.)
The rest of the table got a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper. The sandpaper will make it look like this:
That’s scary looking but totally normal! When you seal it, it will go back to a beautiful navy blue. I used Dixie Belle’s clear wax this time to seal because I love the soft buttery look and feel of a waxed piece and I wanted that for this table.
Finally, I spray painted the original pull with Rustoleum in Satin White.
I wanted it to be there, but not stand out, and let the pretty pattern be the focus.
There are so many of these sewing tables out there, and although not as many people are taking an interest in sewing these days, these tables make great side tables!
This one will be heading to the shop!
And that is the second piece I’ve been hanging onto for forever that is finally done! (Insert awkward happy dancing!!)
If you missed what I did with that small table on Tuesday, you can see that HERE!
I’ll meet y’all back here on Tuesday to see what I did with this bench:
UPDATE: See how this bench looks now HERE!
Have a fantastic weekend!
XOXO,

Very chic now!! I bet that will sell in about 5 minutes in your shop. I am going to have to get one of those transfers, they are beautiful! Good job on finally giving that cute sewing machine table some love!!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I sure hope it sells quickly! These transfers are so fun and easy to use…you must try them! XOXO
Holly says
Now that made me go “wow”. The dark blue with the transfer is truly beautiful.
I really wish I still had the energy to do even small transformations but illness prevents that now 🙁 Love seeing your work each week, it brightens my day.
Christy says
Aww thank you, Holly! I’m sorry you haven’t been feeling well enough to create. I know that must be hard. I’m glad I can give you a little makeover fix a couple of days a week! XOXO
Petra says
Well I’m crushing on those furniture wheels 😮 🙂 My mother had, up until recently, a Singer sewing machine table but not nearly as pretty as this one. You’ve made it look awesome, and the handle looks so much better in white 😀
Christy says
Aren’t they awesome?? I first saw one of my blogger friends using them and I had to have some too! Thanks, Petra! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says
Great makeover Christy! Love the navy and how well it goes with the transfer.
I have a sewing table with a 1948 Singer 15-91 machine in it which sews fabulously. There are many groups on Facebook of people who collect and use Vintage machines. So you have given me an idea to update my old cabinet. 🙂 It isn’t an antique and has a few dings.
Thanks for the inspiration… always!!!
Christy says
Thanks, Christina! I have come across many vintage sewing machines and it is always fun to see if they still work! This one still has the machine in it but the cord has frayed apart. Glad I could inspire you for your own cabinet, my friend! XOXO
Jody says
Navy blue, who knew it made my heart go pitter patter. Love it.
Christy says
Aww yay! There’s something so sophisticated about navy blue. Thanks, Jody! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
I know you are feeling like “Yabba Dabba Do” excited clearing out that stored up stuff! I pulled a side table out of my “get to it one day” pile and I had taken the doors off last year. I painted it thinking I would dig around and find them. Well, darn, where could they be? How does a person lose a couple of doors? I’m trying to decide what to do with the hole in the bottom of the table! At least I have the drawer! Any suggestions? Love the blue and transfer on this little sewing table. XOXO
Christy says
Yes, I am beyond thrilled to be tackling these pieces I’ve held onto for forever. Each one feels like a victory! Oh darn…can it be left without the doors? Can you add some pretty paper or fabric to the back to create visual interest? A basket? Good luck with it! Thank you, Cecilia! XOXO
Dee Ann says
Where did you get the coasters to use under the legs of this table? That looks so handy for painting!
Christy says
They are awesome! I found them on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/31lF7UO 🙂
Dorothy says
Love the sewing table makeover- is that navy paint a chalk paint or a mineral paint? I love the transfer on the front- where can you get them, I have never seen that before.
Another great makeover Christy!
Christy says
Thanks, Dorothy! Dixie Belle Paints label their paints as chalk mineral paint on the label. Maybe a bit of both? I found the transfer here on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2WH71Mk They are so easy to apply! XOXO
sharon austin says
Wow; what a difference. I’m gonna have to try this transfer idea. I really need to start thinking outside the box. My new motto: WWCD; what would Christy do? LOL!!
Christy says
Thank you, Sharon! These transfers are so easy to use…I hope you do give them a go! And ha ha I love that!! XOXO
Jo Ann says
I can’t wait to see the bench makeover. My MIL gave me one of these sewing tables and it is in the attic. Now I just have to get through the rest of my workday before my attic expedition this afternoon!
Christy says
Ooh an attic expedition sounds exciting!! Hope you find some good forgotten treasures up there! XOXO
Marie says
I loved the transfer on your white pieces but I’m loving it equally paired with navy blue. Such a pretty makeover, Christy!
Christy says
Aww yay! Thanks, Marie! I love it with the navy too. Have a great weekend, sweet friend! XOXO
Ellen says
Hi Christy, love your transformations! I too have an old sewing table in my stash. I’ve been dragging my feet because I couldn’t decide how to deal with the hinged top. Did you paint the “inside” of the top? I was considering dropping in a basin for a bar. Or removing the lower top and attaching the top so it looks like a regular table. What was your thought process for this one?
Christy says
Thank you so much, Ellen! I just painted the area around where the machine goes, and I only did that because when it is closed, you can see that that part is unpainted if you don’t. I taped off the backside of the top though and left it stained. The double top doesn’t bother me at all. I see it as a vintage piece that has been repurposed, and I actually like that you can tell that it was once a sewing cabinet. I’m not sure how difficult it would be to remove the lower top, but that sounds like a good option as well. Good luck! XOXO
tina boggan says
hi Ellen, I had an old sewing table like the one Christy did, I took off the table top, reinstalled the very top, w/o hinges, added a 1/2 inch bottom to it…that way no one would have to remove anything from the top to get inside the table , they just had to open the door..i painted mine solid white with a “diamond” type handle, wish I had a picture of it , it sold at my booth for 125.00….I do love the blue/ white thing that Christy did!!!!!!
Christy says
Great idea, Tina! Thank you! 🙂
Becky says
Very pretty! I like the navy! You’re right, there ARE a ton of sewing tables out there. More than one has made it into my home, haha!
Christy says
Thank you, Becky! The other sewing cabinet I have left is prettier and the gentleman I bought from said, ” I hope you’re not planning to paint this.” Apparently, he restored it all and it is very pretty as is, hence the reason I haven’t touched it yet. I really need to stop bringing nice pieces home lol! XOXO
Sheryl Danner says
I love what you did with the sewing table! I’m curious what the inside under the lid opening looks like. With my hubby’s help last year, I turned a sewing cabinet into a cute bar. When you opened it, there was space for bar accessories, and the open lid could be used as a server. It sold quickly????
Christy says
Thank you, Sheryl! I left the inside as is, but I love the sound of yours!! XOXO
Tracy says
Love the contrast of dark navy & the light blues. Also appreciate the tip about what it looks like after sanding & how it goes back to navy after top coating. Very pretty.
Christy says
Thank you, Tracy! I love how they work so nicely together as well. And yes, the first time I sanded a dark piece, I freaked out a bit ha ha! XOXO
Carole Larsen says
This sewing machine cabinet is now beautiful. You and your talents are amazing

I have the same floral transfer in my inventory… just haven’t found the perfect piece yet. You sure did though!… this is lovely. XO
Christy says
I love this transfer! I can’t wait to see how you work your magic with it! Thanks, Denise! XOXO
Barbara Warner says
I like the blue flowers on the drawer but I’d like the wood better painted white, or pale blue. I don’t like that black at all.
Christy says
Thanks for your input, Barbara! It’s actually navy blue, but that may be hard to tell by the photos. XO
Margie says
Oh my goodness,I absolutely love this ❤️. All blues are my favorite color with navy at the top. This won’t be in your shop for long.I like watching you redo all your “treasures”.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Margie! I don’t ever use navy blue, but I think that is about to change!! XOXO
Alison H says
Well that sure went from ho-hum to cheerful and lovely!! Beautiful work!! Congrats ????????
Christy says
Thanks so much, Alison! This was a fun one to work on! XOXO

I love what you did with the sewing table! It is so pretty….beautiful job as always!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Char! XOXO
Betty Bilnoski says
I’m here today at your suggestion for the navy paint color.
I love how you transformed this sewing machine cabinet. It’s beautiful. Now I’ll be looking for a sewing machine cabinet at the thrift stores.
I chucked my old sewing machine & cabinet out when I purchased a new Sears sewing machine about 30 years ago – which has been sitting in a closet for almost 30 years so it’s almost like new! I just can’t throw it out. One of these days I’m going to get my Hubby to oil it and see if I can remember how to thread it. And all I need is a cute cabinet.
Christy says
Thank you, Betty! I love this sweet piece. I wish I had a spot to set up my machine full time! This color is going to be gorgeous on your lamps with some gold peeking through! I hope you’ll share a photo when you’re done! XOXO
