I think my favorite thing in the whole world is repurposing things, how about you?
Amazing friends, today I am sharing how I gave this $10 thrift store spindle headboard a whole new purpose:
I always have a hard time passing up a good deal on a perfectly good twin headboard, and one that has spindles? Well that doesn’t stand a chance…it is definitely coming home with me!
One of my favorite ways to repurpose them is to simply cut off the legs:
Paint it, and add a few hooks:
Voila! An instant coat rack or perfect towel holder! So simple, and charming right?
This is painted in Bit of Sugar by Behr made into DIY chalk paint. (Recipe HERE.) I sanded then sealed with Annie Sloan’s clear soft wax.
The hooks are from Hobby Lobby and were originally black. I spray painted them in Rustoleum Robin’s Egg blue.
I put them in a Ziploc bag and shook them around to get a distressed look.
Oopsie…the one on the end there is hanging a little to the left…that’s what you get with handmade things sometimes. 🙂
I adore anything with lots of spindles!
I get questions about what I use to hang some of the things I make and I always forget to take pictures. I remembered this time! I like to use these D-ring hangers for items with a little weight to them:
I have some with two screw holes as well, that I use with really heavy items.
I hope you enjoyed this quick and simple update! This cutie will be making its way to my booth very soon.
If you liked this makeover, you will surely LOVE this one:

I’ll be back here on SUNDAY with a brand new CRAFT JUNK GIVEAWAY!! I’ll be joining several other ladies who will all be giving away craft junk of their own, so there will be lots of chances to win some goodies!
Then I’ll return with my Trash-to Treasure girls on Tuesday! I’ll be making over something I’m keeping for my own house this time, these outdoor chairs:
UPDATE: These chairs are all refreshed and ready for another season! See how they turned out HERE!
See y’all this weekend! 🙂
XO,

Oh Christy, can you hear me purring with delight over this one? 🙂 I love the white, lightly chippy finish, the blue hooks and …. everything. 🙂 Someone may take this out of your hands as you are walking it to your booth. 🙂
I admit I really want a Homeright paint sprayer.
Your posts always start my day with a delighted thrill. Thanks so much.
Christy says
Aww yay! Thank you SO much, Christina! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Claudine says
Beautiful! And, that hook turned a little to the left? Happens in machine-made and store bought too! lol.
Christy says
Thank you, Claudine! And yes you are probably right! 🙂

I have to tell you how you inspired me with the headboard redos. I found 2 on the curb and had to bring them home with me. I haven’t done anything with them yet but someday I will get the inspiration to create something with them.
Christy says
Aww thank you, Debra! And what a great find for you! I do love some headboards! XOXO
ColleenB.~ Tx. says
Love that. I’m think about doing something like this only hanging small potted plants / herbs from coat hooks. Then again my hubby really needs something to hang his outdoor and go to town caps on
Christy says
Thanks, Colleen! The plants would be fun…never thought of that! XOXO
Janice says
Love the hangers painted Robins Egg Blue. Just gives it a sweet look although black would have been fine. Love it.
Christy says
Thanks, Janice! I love the little pop of blue too, but yes black would have worked great as well! XOXO

Christy, this turned out so nice! Love it! I noticed that you hung the coat rack on your wall in your office and other than putting holes all over the place how do you hang your items. Because I do a lot of items that need to be hung to display for photos I don’t want to keep making nail holes in my walls. I hope I explained what I’m talking about. I was thinking command strips might be a solution, but that could get costly. Do you have any suggestions? Also what software are you using? I’m using WordPress and I’m not very happy with it although it seems to be the software of choice. Sorry about the questions and thank you for your time.
Christy says
Thank you, MaryJean! I was able to wedge the nails in between two pieces of stone here so luckily I didn’t have to make any holes. However in my old house on one wall of my bedroom, I had a large map hanging and that is where I would photograph wall pieces a lot. I had all kinds of holes in that wall, but the map hid them, and I just photoshopped the extra holes that could be seen in my photos. Hope that made sense, and I use WordPress also. Perhaps if you change your theme, you might like it better? XOXO
MaryJean says
Your idea of the map wall sounds great and photoshop the nail holes. I was thinking of making a section of my wall in the garage display friendly. Then I won’t have to worry about how many nail holes I make. Yes, I think I’m going to just change my theme. Right now it’s one of the free ones. Thanks for the advice.
Christy says
My pleasure! 🙂

Charm galore! If I lived near you, it would be gone from the booth already. When I see a headboard I always think of your benches, which is more work than I’m willing to put in. But this darling idea doesn’t seem so intimidating. (BTW, I see you’re getting plenty of use from that chair!)
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie! This really is a super simple way to reuse a headboard! And yes…ha ha I am surprised I’ve been able to use my little chair so much! 🙂 XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
Love the repurpose! And I agree, most fun! 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you are sharing for T2T! I have no idea what I’m sharing yet!! 😉 xo
Christy says
Thanks, Nancy!! I will be sharing two of my outdoor chairs that are going to go on my side porch. They are looking super sad at the moment! XOXO
Debbie in TX says
Very nice! I could see this item out by the pool holding beach towels!
Christy says
Thanks, Debbie! That is a great use for it!! XOXO
Jeneane Dunmyer says
You have very imaginative ideas and I like what you do to repurpose items; however, I know it’s the fad now but do all your projects have to have scraped up and chipped looking paint jobs?
Christy says
Thank you, Jeneane! I do what I love myself, and that is just a look that I really love. Every once in a while I pass on the distressing if it fits the piece, but not often. XO
Debbie says
As always, another great idea! I think I actually have a few of those sitting out in my shed – looks like some future projects for me! Love the colors!!
Christy says
Thank you, Debbie! You better go dust them off and get busy ha ha! XOXO
Denise Zdziennicki says

You never stop amazing me. You are my favorite go to girl and you never let your followers down with your creativity. I almost have a spindle thingy done(not sure on its previous life) I painted it in the bit of sugar and put hooks on the bottom like you do. My problem is I want to keep EVERYTHING lol. Once again great job. Hugs, Bonnie
Christy says
Aww you are the sweetest ever, Bonnie, thank you!! I feel your pain…I want to keep SO MANY THINGS!! It was really hard when we first moved in here because I needed a lot of things to fill it up, but it is getting easier now that I am running out of places to put things ha ha! XOXO
Becky says
$10!?! How do you do that!? What a great refinish! From beast to beauty. I love the blue and white combo. Very pretty!
Christy says
Girl, that is why my storage room and garage runneth over ALL THE TIME lol! You couldn’t by a cheap coat rack for $10, right?? I will buy all the headboards ha ha! XOXO
Julie Briones says
Perfect for a cottage style bathroom! Love this… the aqua and white look perfect together, but they always do! 😉
Christy says
Thanks, Julie! You know how much I love my white and aqua! ???? XOXO
