Hello sweet friends! I’m taking a quick break from my latest thrift store haul makeovers to bring y’all an easy Spring Hydrangea wreath I created for our front door.
I’m joining the Seasonal Simplicity Series hosted by my friend, Krista of The Happy Housie, and today is all about spring wreaths!
There are 28 fabulous DIY Spring wreath ideas to inspire you!
Be sure to look for links to the others at the bottom if you see anything you fancy there. (I know I do!)
Here is my contribution…a new spring wreath I made for our front door:
Do you make your own wreaths? I usually do just because they are so darned expensive to buy them ready-made! What is up with that?
I love hydrangeas and I knew this could easily take me all the way through the summer months. I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
My wreath started out as a thrift store find for $2.25. I always keep a look out for nicely shaped wreaths that I can reuse when I’m at the thrift store. You can often find out-of-season wreaths for super cheap.
How to Make a Hydrangea Wreath for Spring
First, here’s everything I used to create my new wreath:
3. Two Spring bouquets from Michaels
4. Hydrangea bushel from Hobby Lobby
5. One of these clematis bushels from Michaels
I picked up the small white bouquets when I was shopping for florals to make my Drawers Repurposed into Spring Arrangements that I shared a few weeks ago in this series. Good thing I never returned them since they worked great here!
I started by cutting the hydrangea blooms apart, leaving a few inches of the stems intact:
I grouped a couple together to create a larger bloom and tucked them into my wreath:
Then I snipped a few of the white blooms:
And tucked those in as well…
(I would cut the stems a bit longer than I did here.)
Next I cut a few pieces off of my clematis bushel:
I added those to either side, adding more pieces until I got the fullness I wanted:
Then I tucked in a couple more small hydrangeas and a a few more of the white flowers as well:
I shifted them around a bit until I got a look I liked:
And that was it! Simple, yes?
Now our front door looks refreshed and ready for spring!
I didn’t hot glue or wire anything in place since everything tucked in snuggly.
Front doors aren’t the only place you can hang a pretty seasonal wreath. This one looks great hanging on the mirror in our dining room as well:

That is beautiful on your black front door, it really stands out very nicely! I have to get busy and get one of them made for my front door. I have to paint my front door this year, but that wreath will go a long way in making the door look better until I get it painted! Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks, Mary! Have fun making yours! XOXO

Christy that is so pretty. I appreciate how you take pictures of each step because I, for one, can’t arrange flowers. Next time I find an ugly wreath at Goodwill I’m buying it. I will send you pictures if you promise not to laugh. God Bless you girlfriend.
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! I’m glad you enjoy the step-by-step…it always looks harder than it really is. I’d love to see yours if you make one!! XOXO

As I expected, beautiful! I really like the clematis greenery in there. Which brings me back to my favorite wreath of all time: your last year’s spring wreath. I like this year’s really well, but I LOVE last years still! ???? You are my favorite wreath designer! Happy spring!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Becky! I love making wreaths because they are much quicker than waiting for paint to dry ha ha! Happy Spring to you as well! XOXO

Tauni says
Christy, your wreath is lovely! I live in Utah, where hydrangeas don’t grow “in the wild” or even in the carefully curated garden very well. Such a shame, because they are one of my spring/fall favorites! It’s so fun participating in this series with you! I’ve pinned your wreath to my favorite wreath board to share with others!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Tauni! Hydrangeas are my favorites! We planted several bushes of them at our old house since we had the perfect shady spot for them. I’m afraid we don’t have as nice a spot for them at this house. I miss them! Thanks for pinning! XOXO
Jennifer says
Beautiful! You have inspired me to make one!
Christy says
Thank you, Jennifer! Nothing like a new wreath to welcome Spring! XOXO
Teri says
Hi, your wreath is beautiful. Can you share your methods of hanging wreaths? My new husband does not want a hook in our wood door and it will not accommodate a wreath hanger. I used to have a metal door with a magnet hook. Was your hook adhesive?
Christy says
Thank you, Teri! Yes, I used a command hook! XO
Carl Anthony says
WOw amazing
Christy says
Thank you! XO
Just emd, no company says
I loved this wreath so much! I tried my own version with a vine wreath I made myself several years ago and about $6 worth of flowers from Walmart! It turned out great, in my humble opinion! 😉 If I knew how to attach a picture here, I would…
Thanks for your inspiration. emd
Christy says
Thank you! It’s always so satisfying when you can do it yourself, isn’t it? XO
