Spring Tulip Basket

It’s been a while since we did some crafting around here hasn’t it? How about a little something Spingy for the front door to tell this snow to GO AWAY?

I’m not so sure it will work, but I made something anyway…a Spring Tulip Basket!

Spring Tulip Basket

Since my 31 days of thrifty madness is starting this Sunday, I have thrifty on the brain, so I incorporated a little thriftiness into this project. You can easily guess which part was thrifted, right?

You probably said the basket and you would be right. It was a $1.25 Good Will find:

It was in brand-new condition and I knew it would be perfect for a Spring bouquet after a coat of white spray paint.

The only blooms I purchased new (from Hobby Lobby) were these twiggy ones with the tiny green blossoms:

I used six of them. The white ones sneaking into the picture didn’t make the cut.

The tulips and green sprigs came from my Spring Tulip Wreath that I made for my mantel last year:

I had it hanging in the garage and it had fallen several times and was looking a little tattered, so I reused the flowers and sprigs in my basket!

The nice thing about using a basket like this is that I can hang it or it can stand upright somewhere.

It looks pretty here on the inside of my dining room doors. It was snowing outside as I was taking these pictures, even if my dining room says it’s summer.

  1. Christy, such a cute hanging basket.. I love finding a great thrifted basket. Nice reuse of the tulips too. The snow is getting a little monotonous huh? I hung my wreath up and took right back down after photographing it. It would have looked strange in all the snow. Thanks in advance for the linkup! Stay warm.

  2. It’s lovely! I like it better than the mantel wreath. Am I allowed to say that?? 😉 I also finally found those giant suction cups for hanging a wreath! I feel so accomplished. Now someone needs to make me a wreath. 😉

  3. Very pretty – sweet basket score!

  4. Beautiful Christy! I guess I had better get into the spring thing of it! LOL Have a great weekend. Jo

  5. This is so pretty Christy – I love that basket. What a find!! And it looks perfect in white with your tulips – they are such pretty faux tulips!! We have flowers blooming around here….

    • Thanks, Krista! They are great for faux tulips, right? This was just one bunch I bought last year. We have nothing blooming yet and its all pretty much covered in snow anyway…ready for Spring! 🙂

  6. This is so gorgeous, Christy! And you can’t beat the price, either! 🙂 Now if we could just convince spring to show up…

    ~Abby =)

  7. I love it. It has given me inspiration to make something similar for my front door 🙂 So glad you shared your beautiful basket!

    Have a happy weekend…

  8. This is so pretty. I love the pure simplicity of it:)

  9. Loving those tulips!! They can be used almost all year round- hope you all are staying warm 🙂

  10. I like it! Alot!!

  11. Very pretty and perfect for spring.

I made a spring wreath this week and hung it on my door yesterday. It looks kind of silly right now with the yard covered in snow!

    • Thanks, Paula! Mine looked funny too! Ice and snow that’s dripping from the roof as it melts was splashing all over it. Think I’ll wait till this snow clears to hang it back outside! XO

  12. Christy, I really love the white tulips and your basket creation….I will keep this in mind for my spring decor. Thanks for the idea!

  13. Love this! So simple and pretty; perfect for spring!! Pinned. 🙂

  14. So pretty! I love the big bow. I’m so ready for spring! 🙂

  15. Beautiful basket arrangement! I’m really not any good at the floral stuff, but you really make this look pretty easy to do:) Thank you so much for sharing this, maybe I’ll try my hand at this one;)

  16. I love your basket wreath….I have a question…is the basket hung in front of double doors…if so how did you hang it?…I have double doors and always have to make two of everything…next house…one door! 🙂

    • Thanks, Shirley! My front door only has one door, but it was snowing the day I took these photos. Just for the pictures, I hung it on the inside of the double doors in my dining room, using a command hook. We don’t use these doors, so I didn’t have to worry about the basket being knocked down. I wish I had a magic answer for you for your double doors, sorry! That’s good to keep in mind for the next house we buy…no double front doors! 🙂

  17. Such a pretty wreath….love the burlap bow too. How did you make such a nice bow? Is it all one piece, just tied, or a separate piece at the center of the loops?

    • Thanks, Linda! I did cheat ha ha. I folded the ends of one long piece across the center to make the two loops, then wrapped a separate piece around the middle. 🙂

      • That has to be the prettiest burlap bow I have ever seen. I found your site on Savvy Southern Style where your tulip basket was featured. Can’t believe you got that basket so cheap. Love your site!

  18. HI Christy, this is so beautiful and I’m going to be on the hunt for a basket to make a pretty wreath type basket for mine. Thank you soooo much for linking up to our Something to Talk About Link Party and I hope you’ll join the party again tomorrow morning at 6 am est. See you there and have a great week, hugs, Lisa at Concord Cottage

  19. Great inspiration! I’m looking at fixing up a basket for my door. Love the burlap bow!
