Hey sweet Friends! Do y’all get into Halloween? I know of a few of y’all that do, but my guess is that most people do not. Around here, we really have fun with it!
We are still tweaking this year’s outdoor decorations at the moment. It has been fun decorating a new house!
One of my favorite projects I’ve created for Halloween started with this mailbox box post I found at the Home Depot for $28:
I knew it would be perfect to recreate this sign I saw at BHG.com a couple of years ago. I thought it would be a fantastic addition to our Halloween dispay! I have included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I use.
I started at Home Depot in search of what I could use to make it and found that mailbox post which was perfect!
Here is how my version turned out:
Oooooooooh spooky…
Starting with the post, I added a base to it using old wood scraps I had hanging around, followed by a sweet new paint job with Rustoleum’s black spray paint in satin:
I’m sure there are several ways I could have made this stand on its own (like I did with this plant hanger HERE), but I was trying to use what I had and it worked great (and it was free!). I cut the angled piece with my miter saw to fit flush against the post and the base, then screwed it in place with wood screws. I also added two wood screws to each side of the post, into the base.
To make the sign, I attached two pieces of wood from my old curbside-find pile together with an old piece of fencing.
Then I made a template with a piece of paper, traced it onto the top and bottom, and cut it with my cordless RYOBI jig saw:
I white-washed it the same way I usually do (see how here). To add the lettering I busted out the big guns: my Silhouette, to create a stencil. (If you don’t have a silhouette, you can transfer the words like I did here, and paint them in.)
Then I spray-painted it with Rustoleum’s satin black:
I did two coats, then peeled off the contact paper after about 15 minutes.
I gave it a few coats of clear matte acrylic sealer and hung it from the top with galvanized screw-in eye hooks and an S hook…
Not too hard, right?
What do you think of my welcoming committee?
Spooky!
Just before you got to this point was a graveyard…
I do miss this set up! Our old entry was so fun to decorate.
Here are a couple of my skeleton pals hanging out in the graveyard…
We don’t have anything on our new grass this year since they are all just babies. You may remember that my hubby had to kill off our old lawn in this post.
And just past my spooky greeters, was this gal:
And just a glimpse of how it came to life at night:
And across from her was this little fella:
I miss my window boxes!
And this was near my front door:
See how I made that large BEWARE sign including how I enlarge my letters HERE.

We are still working on this year’s display, but this sign is still a great addition!
I spent around $38 to make it which is pretty good for the impact it has.
That one isn’t too spooky at all.
I hope you enjoyed looking back at this fun project! I hear we get lots of trick-or-treaters in our new neighborhood. We’ll be ready!!
I’ll se you back here on Tuesday with the makeover of this very utilitarian caddy I found at the thrift store:
UPDATE: See how pretty this caddy looks now HERE!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Becky Winters says
I love all of your decorations…so awesome, artistic and creative! Would you come do this at my house? Please! LOL
Christy says
Ha ha thank you, Becky!! My hubby and I were unsure if we would decorate the outside of our new house this year since we are still trying to get the inside under control, but the kids in us won out! 😀
Julie Briones says
LOL!!!! That is AWESOME! SO-SO funny… and looks AMAZING!
Christy says
Thanks, Julie!! XOXO

Love! Love! Love! … this sign!! (Love all of your projects!) We threw out some wood scraps the other day and it was killing me. I thought about you and all you could have done with them. : /
Christy says
Thank you so much, Carolyn!! Oh no…well if it makes you feel any better, my hubby trashed just about all of my wood scrap pile when we moved! There will always be more, I guess! XOXO

I love the sign! This year is a little low key for me since my husband passed away at the end of June. I’m working through with the help of my wonderful family and friends. We were married 45 years and met when we were just 19 years old (we were both the same age). Anyway, enough of that . . .
I’m retiring at the end of this year so next year I will be ready to decorate! We don’t get any trick or treaters because we are on a road that the houses are farther apart. The kids tend to go to the developments, but I still like to decorate and my grandkids love it when then come over!
I definitely will be pinning your sign for future reference.
Christy says
I am SO sorry to hear about your husband. I can only imagine how hard that must be. You are blessed to have those grandkids, and I’m sure you’d do just about anything to put a smile on their faces! XOXO

Thank you Christy. I truly enjoy your posts and your decorations are always so beautiful!

Thank you! <3
ROSE LEFEBVRE says
Fun idea! I can see the sign changing over the year and with holidays and seasons.
Christy says
ROSE!! I never even considered turning it into a Christmas sign!!!! You are a genius, thank you for such a great idea!! XOXO
Rose says
I love it all???????? Is their a lot of kids that can enjoy this display of goodness? I decorate inside not scary though, but love to decorate for Christmas ????
Christy says
Thank you, Rose! the kids in our neighborhood love it! They ride by on their bikes during the day and stop and point out all the things they like. I love to see that! I do love to decorate for Christmas too. 🙂
Linda Petersen says
Hi! Looking “spooktacular”!! Do you decorate & sell Halloween goodies at your booth? ????????
Christy says
Thank you, Linda!! I do not sell Halloween goodies. I did make a ton of sweater pumpkins last Fall and sold them like hotcakes. I haven’t had so much luck with Christmas items…probably because the market is flooded with cute Christmas décor? XOXO
Olga says
I love this sign!! Added it to my own long to-do list;))
Christy says
Thanks, Olga! SO glad you enjoyed this one! XO

Hi Christy,
Can you send me the Facebook page you mentioned on one of your posts where a lot of DIY projects are listed? I looked at it last week when I was looking at one of your posts, and now I can’t find it. It wasn’t your Facebook page but a different one.
Thanks,
Penny Robinson
