Hello beautiful friends!! I hope y’all are still hanging in there! I can almost sense a shimmer of light at the end of this crazy tunnel…almost! On Thursday, I shared my new haul that I shopped our garage for. Who knew I could pack that much stuff in there?? I have serious stacking skills, y’all!
Before I get to my haul, I wanted to tackle a table that I now have in my office. If you’ve seen our bedroom makeover, you may remember that it once sat on my side of the bed:
I found this table at an estate sale for $60 a couple of Summers ago and it worked perfectly with my Hubby’s furniture. He only bought one nightstand when he bought his set, and I had a dressing table near my side of the bed at our old house which didn’t leave much room for a bedside table. I loved this table as soon as I saw it!
I ended up switching it for this drum table that I had in my office as it was a bit taller, and it had already been painted in Fluff:
See its original makeover HERE. It was in seriously sad shape when I found it!
Plus, I wasn’t quite ready to take a brush to this pretty, ornate table just yet.
Well today’s the day! It stuck out like a sore thumb in my sea of white and neutrals, so I went for it!
I started by giving it a good wipe down with wipes. If you can’t find wipes at the moment, any cleaner will do, and Dixie Belle also sells a cleaner you mix with water called White Lightning.
Then I gave it a base coat of Driftwood.
I actually loved it with the Driftwood while it was still wet, but it dried darker and I decided to keep going with Steel Magnolia!!
I love this color so much! When I used this gorgeous color on this night table, it took three coats for complete coverage, and I suggested that a base coat of a similar color like Driftwood would give more solid coverage. I took my own advice this time!
Before making that suggestion in that post, I tested it on a piece of scrap wood. This is one coat of Driftwood, followed by one coat of Steel Magnolia:
The coverage is amazing!
I love the new look of my pretty marble-topped table in my office!
It works so beautifully with the colors I have in there!
And I love how all the details still stand out although it is all one color now!
Dixie Belle has eight gorgeous metallic colors in all and they are self sealing, so there is no need to apply a topcoat.
If you’ve followed me since our last house, you might remember when I slip-covered this sofa:
My sweet MIL gave this to my Hubby before we were married and it used to live in our bedroom. It started out yellow and didn’t match a thing but it is so darned comfy and I loved the shape of it, so I decided to make a cover for it. It is perfect here in my office!
There are so many gorgeous details on this table!
I only painted the drawer fronts since they were a snug fit already…
My roses are still hanging in there two years later…
See how I made this arrangement with faux water HERE.
This frame was a thrift store find:
You can see it and a couple other smalls HERE. That’s me and my oldest about six or so years ago. He is a senior in high school this year…
That’s my heart right there!
My own projects usually sit in waiting for forever so I’m so glad to have this pretty piece done!
I’ve got something super fun for y’all on Thursday…
Nancy and I are taking you thrifting!! We went thrifting together literally days before everything shut down, and I’ll have a brand new video to share of our trip woohoo!! I don’t know about you, but I am going through some serious thrifting withdrawal!!
I found a bunch of smaller items on our trip and I’ll be sharing what I did with these pieces:
UPDATE: No need to wait!! Our brand new thrifting video is up and I’m sharing these smaller pieces HERE!
Take care, stay well, and I’ll see ya Thursday!!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Robin Stephens says
What a stunning piece…and putting it beside that kidney-shaped sofa…wow! A perfect pairing. I’m with you on no-thrifting-withdrawls. It’s just *insert bad word*……but, it will all return…….eventually…….I hope. Loved the post, loved the redo. Good job per usual!!

Cheryl Atkinson says
Hi Christy! I love this table. I have a very ornate sofa table that is very old and I have been thinking it needs some color.
something to show off all the pretty details. This may be the one I choose. I have not worked with the metallics yet so I dont know. When I make up my mind you will see my order come thru. Thank you for the inspiration you always give.
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! You know it is my pleasure to share always! I’m not usually a metallic kind of gal, but there’s just something about this color that I love! XOXO
Christina says
Wow, Christy, beautiful makeover and what a handsome young man. I see such kindness in his eyes.
So glad you took on this table. It looks perfect next to your sofa. Yes, I do remember you making the slipcover and it still blows my mind. 🙂
Thanks for always bringing joyous makeovers to start my day!
Be well!!

Christy says
Thank you, Christina! Jack is one of my best DIY projects ever ha ha! He is such a sweet young man too. I looked back at a post from several years ago the other day and I saw a comment from you…you have been with me a long time and I thank you so much for following along with me on this journey!! Stay safe and well! XOXO
Lori says
Your son is so handsome ! It’s funny how they grow & mature so quickly !!
Christy says
Thank you, Lori! It is crazy how one day they’re 12 with braces and a goofy haircut that they would not let you have any say over, and then in an instant they are full grown! XOXO
Kelly Howard says
You not only make fabulous furniture redo’s but you make very fine and handsome young men, too! My youngest just turned 21..OUCH!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Kelly!! Wow 21? Nope, I’m definitely not ready for 21 ha ha! XOXO
Dee Dee says
I like the table a lot! I have a similar table and haven’t had the guts to touch it lol! Your senior is so handsome. It always hurts my heart a little to compare pictures from young to older. Time goes by so quickly! So happy y’all are healthy, take care!
Dee Dee
Christy says
Thank you, Dee Dee! It took me a little while to get up the nerve to paint this one. And thanks…Jack is such a kind, sweet young man and yes, how do they grow up SO fast?? Stay safe! XOXO
Sandra says
What s handsome young man you have.
Christy says
Thank you, Sandra!! XOXO
Janice Holt says
First of all, your son is so good-looking. Bet the girls love him. You have a right to be proud of him. Now the table, at first I thought “oh no she’s going to paint that pretty table” but it did turn out beautiful. It’s such a unique piece. Loved it.
Christy says
Aww thank you, Janice! He’s had a girlfriend for about a year and a half now, so luckily, we don’t have to beat the girls off ha ha! You know I had a hard time taking a brush to this table, but I’m glad I finally did it. I think the pretty metallic did it justice! XOXO
Carolyn Price says
As I have said before, you are amazing, Christy!! That table looks fabulous and is absolutely perfect in your office!
Your son is so handsome. So sorry he and his classmates have such a strange/sad closing to their high school years.
Better days are ahead for us all!!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Carolyn! My son is handling this all pretty well. I guess he doesn’t have anything to compare it to really…but I do feel sad for what he is missing out on. At least he’ll have a story to tell when he’s older! Stay well! XOXO
Maryellen Webber says
Another beautiful transformation Christy! I’m going through thrifting withdrawal too! I usually buy small items, mostly craft related. I really enjoy your blog and look forward to your video on Thursday!
Christy says
Thank you, Maryellen! I’m so glad you enjoy what I share!! One good thing about not being able to go thrifting is that I am getting a lot of things completed that I probably would have kept on the back burner lol! Better days are ahead! XOXO
Toby says
Love it! I love how all your pieces have such a classic authentic feel to them. They don’t look “crafty”–just beautiful. Christy do you have any info anywhere for someone who is getting ready to open their first booth? Or at least entertaining the idea…. Thanks and if you haven’t noticed I really love and appreciate you sharing your projects and knowledge. Have a good day!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Toby! I did write a post a few years ago on tips for a successful booth that you may find helpful here: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/10-tips-to-a-successful-booth/ I hope this helps and thanks again!! XOXO

Love this table you did a beautiful job. Love the sofa too I need to find one like it. Handsome young man they grow up fast.

Christy says
Thank so much, Candy! Wow…they really do grow up so fast!! XOXO
Michelle says
Christy…that table is more than beautiful, it’s stunning!
You did a great job on the color choice for it . It looks rich & classy. That whole space is put together so beautifully. I love the different textures you’ve used as well, the pillows and their stripes complement the tones in your Stonewall. I am currently 3/4 of the way through my interior design course and fabric was my last assignment. I never realized how important making the right choice in fabrics can be , it’s exciting but nerve-wracking at the same time. I always look forward to seeing what you’re doing .
thank you for sharing
Christy says
Thank you so much, Michelle!! I think I would have loved going into interior design…but only if all my clients wanted the look I like ha ha! XOXO
Susan Cox says
I would never have had the guts to paint that pretty little table and it turned out great! (P.S. You have a great-looking kid too.)
Christy says
It took me a minute to get up the nerve to paint it myself ha ha! Thank you, Susan!! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
Did I miss something–or did you not distress this table? Love how the metallic paint enhances the details. Your young man is adorable! Have a great week and stay safe and strong. XOXO
Christy says
Ha ha…nope I left this one alone. I’m not sure how the metallic finish would do with distressing, so I chose not to. So unlike me lol! Thank you, Cecilia…Jack is such a sweet young man. Enjoy the rest of your week and you stay well too! XOXO
Rhonda Storey says
Be still my heart!! That table is gorgeous. I absolutely love the color you painted it. I’m thinking about painting my mahogany dining room table and chairs, but I’m worried about bleeding. It was my grandmother’s from 1949, and it really needs updating! Any suggestions to prevent bleeding?? Thanks! Rhonda
Christy says
Thank you, Rhonda! I love this color too!! And YES! BOSS by Dixie Belle is by far the best thing I have found to prevent bleed-through. It comes in white or clear…the white is perfect if you are painting white anyway as it also saves a coat of paint. Just paint it on and wait overnight before painting. In one or two instances, I have had to add a second coat, but not usually. I just used it recently here: https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/antique-bookcase-makeover-tips-for-styling-shelves/ XOXO
Sue H Mellette says
Love the metallic finish on this piece. I think it elevates the look so much! You are so talented and BTW your son is a handsome young man then and now. Thanks for sharing.
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! I thought it was perfect for this table! And Jack would appreciate your kind words…he is such an awesome young man! XOXO
Jeannette says
Absolutely gorgeous! What a lovely piece now. I must admit I get a bit of a twinge whenever I see you paint a piece but they all come out beautiful! You are so talented. Thank you for sharing my coffee break with me 🙂
Christy says
Thank you, Jeannette! I actually had a hard time taking a brush to this one, but I knew I could do it when I found this color! XOXO
Denise Cox says
What a sophisticated look! You do such a great and intuitive job of selecting colors/ combination of colors.
Christy says
Aww thanks so much, my friend! XOXO
Debbie says
What a handsome young man, I am a retired high school guidance counselor and my heart breaks for all the seniors this year. Closure is such a part of anything and this year’s senior class will not get to experience that, I am afraid they will have a lot of “What ifs” and no one will have the answer.
Christy says
Thank you, Debbie! I know…it is so sad, but at least he will have a story to tell down the road, I guess. He is taking it really well. XOXO
Julie says
The table is beautiful the way you refinished it…I love it.
Handsome son you have. Love your work.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Julie!! XOXO
Carol S says
That color and table are so perfect in your office. I am missing getting out but so loving getting projects done. I have such a backlog that this time-out has actually made me feel better. Pretty much ready to be over, though. Always love your projects. Thanks for sharing your talent!
Christy says
Thank you, Carol! I really love it in here! I have to agree with you…one good thing that has come out of this is I am getting a lot done too! But yes, I am ready for it to be over lol. Take care! XOXO
Bev says
Oh Christy! So beautiful. I’m so inspired & can’t wait to start painting. (I have a huge list!) This quarantine has to get over with soon, & Michigan has to defrost sooner or later! My Granny had a table similar to that but my brother has it & won’t let me paint it. Grrrrr! You’ve redone so many similar pieces my grandparents had that have been passed down to us now. Thanks!
Christy says
Thanks so much, Bev!! I love that you are feeling inspired!! That is the best! Happy painting when you finally defrost up there lol! XOXO
Lizzy says
It turned out beautifully.
Christy says
Thank you, Lizzy!! XOXO
Shirley says
oooola la, tres chic. Love the details, the metallic, Steel Magnolia. It’s beautiful, Christy.
Christy says
Merci beaucoup, Shirley!! I was so fearful of painting this one, but I love the results! XOXO
Debbie in TX says
Wow, you knocked it out of the park! The metallic paint brought the finish up to a whole new level and looks awesome. There are so many details on that piece that stand out now.
Love the photo of your son. Every time you say “That’s my heart right there,” I totally feel what you mean because that’s how I feel with my own daughter. Those feelings never seem to change, no matter how old they get : )
Have a great day!!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Debbie!! I agree…I was afraid to paint over all those details, but the paint still let them shine! And yes, there is truly no feeling like being a mother. We are so blessed!! XOXO
ROSE LEFEBVRE says
What a cute piece! And your son is so handsome! I so love seeing all the things you do with just about anything. So creative
Christy says
Thank you, Rose! You are the sweetest!! XOXO
Sharon Word says

Christy says
Aww thank you, Sharon! XOXOXO
Marian says
Ohhhhh Christy, that is one of the most beautiful tables I have ever seen! You always have an eye for what is needed. I would love to work in your office. I could get so many things done. Not only that, but I would feel like a queen doing them. You are so talented!
Christy says
Aww yay! Thank you!! I’m so glad you like this one, Marion! I was so afraid to paint it, but as soon as I saw this gorgeous color, I knew it was the one! I do love my office…it is such a nice upgrade from my desk in the living room at our old house ha ha! XOXO
Patty says
Christy, the table is really beautiful! I must say I like it even better than the original finish. Love that sofa – looks lovely with the “new” table!! My favorite updates always include your sweet boys & Lyla, too 🥰. Jack is so handsome & way too grownup!
Christy says
Thank you, Patty! I was so afraid ya’ll would be mad at me for painting it lol…but I think this color really suits it! I love when I get the chance to share my babies, fur babies included ha ha! And yes, Jack is full grown lol! XOXO
Darlene says
The table turned out stunning and so is your young man. I have four handsome grown grandsons as well. They do grow up too fast . Keep up the good work. Excited always to see what you have done.
Christy says
Thank you SO much, Darlene!! They really do grow up so fast! XOXO
Patti says
Your steel magnolia table is beautiful! I have a question…I ordered some Dixie Belle products from your Etsy site. Great delivery and no problems. I’m wondering if you get a commission when I order from you as opposed to ordering from Dixie Belle or Amazon. I would rather support you than Amazon! Thx!
Christy says
Thank you, Patti! Yes, if you order from me, although the Dixie Belle Warehouse fills my online orders, I still get a commission. I appreciate your support so much!! XOXO
Cecilia says
Ooo, pretty! That one gorgeous table – unpainted or painted! I like its new look. And your boy! He’s a cutie. They grow up fast, don’t they? I’m having thrifting withdrawals too and restaurant and shopping…ha! Just ready to get back to some normalcy!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! This really is a beaut of a table! And my Jack is all grown up…and yes, it happened so fast! Oh yes…restaurant withdrawls here too for sure!! Better days are coming! XOXO
Robin says
What a nice subdued pop of shine. The color elevated the marble veining! OMG I’ve been starving (to go thrifting)!! I usually go once a week & also hit the garage/rummage/estate sales each week too. Btw, Your son favors you.
Christy says
That is a perfect way to describe it…subdued! It was a bit over the top before with its gold details. And YES…I miss thrifting the most!! I have a feeling this will be a great Summer for yard sales with everyone stuck at home…hopefully they were creating huge yard sale piles ha ha! People used to tell me all the time when Jack was younger that he looked just like me, but not so much as he has grown. He looks a lot like his Dad and he also favors my Dad. XOXO
Cynthia says
Another excellent painted table. The metallic paint is gorgeous.
What a cutie your son is. I remember my son being that age. Enjoy him being at home while you still can.
Cynthia
Christy says
Thank you, Cynthia! I am going to enjoy him as much as possible! XOXO
Ashley says
Such a beautiful table, Christy!💕
Christy says
Thank you so much, Ashley!! XOXO
liz says
SOOOOOOO beautiful!!!! I absolutely love to see what you’re going to post next. I’m so impressed with everything you do. I redid my bedroom furniture b/c I was inspired by your work! I’ve since moved and purchased a new headboard & some mirrored furniture to go with it. I also bought a gorgeous dark wood piece that I think would go beautifully with the color combo you did the marble top table with. I’m about to purchase the driftwood & either Steel Magnolia or Silver Bullet. B/C the piece is dark, and I have the mirrored pieces I’m thinging Silver bullet might be better. Can you help….or maybe driftwood is not good b/c my piece is a dark wood? Appreciate you suggestion(s)
Christy says
Thank you SO much, Liz! I really appreciate that!! I love that you were inspired to make changes in your own home…that is the best! The Driftwood will work great, even over a darker stain, and honestly, I think it could work as a base for either metallic color if you were going to use both on different pieces. If you just go for the Silver Bullet, Manatee would be a great base. XOXO
Hilary says
Christy, that table is beautiful but I wonder if others have warned you about the drapery puddled on top of the air vent in your reveal photo.
That makes me very uneasy. Please tell me only cool air blows there or that it is an intake vent.
Christy says
Thanks, Hilary! My Hubby is in the HVAC business and he said it doesn’t get hot enough to be an issue. Also, we have two vents on that wall. I appreciate your concern though! XO
KATHY BINKLEY says
Christy, I really liked the table that color, so pretty! I can’t believe your son is a senior either. He is really handsome. Some little girl will be lucky! I have two boys and they really do grow up fast.
Christy says
Thank you, Kathy! And yes…when did he grow up lol?? He’s had the same sweet girlfriend for about a year and a half now and I’m so glad for that ha ha! Yes they really do grow up fast! XOXO
Rosie says
Hi Christy, the table turned out beautifully. I too am not a fan of metallic but this style of table suits the metallic paint. Nicely done!!
Christy says
Thank you, Rosie! I think maybe it works because of all the fancy parts on this one! 🙂 XOXO
