Hello dear friends! I’m back with the second piece from my newest Spring 2022 Haul. Today, I’ve got a pretty stenciled mirror makeover to share with you!
It started out like this:
Hello, 1973! No really, the stamp on the back read 1973. I was still in diapers.
I don’t know why a pair of these added to one dresser sounded like a good idea back then, but if you do have a set of them…they look pretty cute separated and hung above your bedside tables on either side of the bed:
This is from when I painted our bedroom furniture a couple of years ago…the whole room got an update! I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
You can see the whole bedroom makeover HERE.
I did not have a pair of mirrors this time, but for 50% off of $12.98, I brought the lone mirror home anyway!
Prep
Before getting started, I removed the mirror from the frame. I find it easier to work on the frame if I don’t have to worry about the mirror as well.
PLUS, when you remove the mirror, you can paint the area on the back that will be reflected in the mirror, so I like the overall result much better.
I gave it a good cleaning with White Lightning while I was cleaning the hutch I shared last week, so it was clean and ready to go!
Paint
I chose one of my best sellers, this beautiful French Linen color for this mirror…
It’s a great neutral!
I gave it two coats and then sanded lightly all over with 220 grit sandpaper.
Stencil
Then, I chose this pretty Floral Silkscreen Stencil:
I share how to use silkscreen stencils in THIS POST.
They have a sticky backing and can be used up to ten times, but I pushed that limit on this dresser for sure!
They give beautifully detailed results. I used the included spatula to apply my paint:
Then I removed the stencil as soon as I scraped away the excess:
I used Fluff chalk mineral paint here, but I did have to rinse my stencil after every few uses as the chalk paint dries so quickly. HOWEVER, I was amazed that I was able to dry it with a paper towel and get right back to it, and it was STILL STICKY!
The Silk paint or acrylic craft paint like my favorite Delta by Ceramcoat brand works great without needing to rinse it mid project.
When I was done adding the stencil where I wanted it, I sanded liberally to distress it with 220 grit sandpaper once again.
Wax
Then to give it more depth, I added white Best Dang Wax all over, pushing it into the details with my La Petite brush and my French Tip brush. They’re great for getting into those deep details!
Then I used a soft, clean cloth to remove any excess wax…
The white wax is a sealer also, so that was it!
Stenciled Mirror Makeover: The After
Here is how this 70’s charmer looks now:
You know I had to add more function with hooks as I often do with mirrors:
I found these at Hobby Lobby when I was picking out hardware for last week’s hutch and knew they’d be perfect!
They got a couple of coats of Fluff:
They’re perfect for necklaces, coats, leashes, etc.
Here’s a closer look a the stencil…
It just adds a little something.
Sweet and simple!
If you liked this makeover, here are 15 more mirror makeovers, including one very similar to this that I did in a gorgeous color!
See them all HERE!
And I get to cross off another piece from this new haul!
If you missed the hutch, it was a perty one!
I’ll be back with this round of smalls on Thursday:
UPDATE! See what they all look like here now!
See y’all then!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!

This mirror sure don’t look dated anymore. Turned out so pretty and love the stencil and the hooks.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! Good bye 1973! XOXO
Christina says
Love the life you gave this mirror! Love the stenciling but it makes the top look kind of bare. I wish there was a bit more white up top. I still bet this doesn’t last long in your booth!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! It’s hard to see the white wax in the photos, but it is more prominent in person so that helps on the top. Have a great week! XOXO

I loved looking back at all the ways that you have redone mirrors over the years. I also enjoy looking at all the variations of your feet….different in every one! It’s the first thing I look for. hahaha no, really!
Christy says
Oh ha ha!! That is SO funny! I’ll have to go back and look too! Thank you, my friend! XOXO

Love the idea of the stencil! Looks great! And I always add hooks for function to windows but didn’t think about it for mirrors! I have two mirrors waiting for me to do!
Christy says
Thank you, Jeannie! Yep…why not add a little more function, right? XOXO
Cyndi says
This is so pretty! And interestingly enough, I’m working on a very similar mirror right now, also using French Linen and white, and you’ve given me some ideas. Yay! 😉
Christy says
Thank you, Cyndi! Perfect timing!! XOXO
Cecilia says
Yep! Much better and I love the extra touch from the stencil. It would make a great addition to either bedroom or entry.
Hugs, Cecilia
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! Absolutely! XOXO

Christy, the mirror is lovely 💗
Christy says
Thank you so much, my friend! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Much better, Christy! I’m not crazy about that carving, so I think adding the stencil took some of the focus away from it. You are so precise with your application, I’m sure I would be getting paint all over the sides. And, of course, the hooks are always a little added bonus.
BTW, two mirrors so two people can get dressed at the same time without knocking into each other! I think hanging mirrors over bedside tables would have made people question your taste in the 1970s – what, put a mirror where? 😉 Funny how styles and tastes change over the years.
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie!! And yes, I can see that makes total sense ha ha…although we never get ready in front of our dressers, but at least it’s an explantation that does make sense! It really is funny how styles evolve over the years! XOXO
ROSE LEFEBVRE says
I usually don’t like mirrors and avoid them, but you made this look so adorable. I would make an exception for this one and actually put it in my house!
Christy says
Aww yay! Thank you, Rose!! XOXO

Ooooooooo aaaaaaaah!
Christy says
Ha ha love that response! XOXO

Cecilia from Georgia says
This mirror went with our first bedroom suit! I thought it was fabulous! Now, not so much, until your makeover! Too bad I donated it! Love the details with the stencils. Thanks for another inspiration!
Christy says
Oh funny! Too bad you don’t still have it! Thank you so much, my friend! XOXO
Michele M. says
Looks fabulous, Christy! Love the color/s you choose and the added hardware to make it so functional as well. The ONLY thing I think it needs is for the original fancy feature at the top – it is screaming to be whiter to be pals with the stenciling and hardware. Seems they need to be more cohesive. Pls don’t be offended. It is truly magnificent re-do.
And two side notes: haha on being in diapers in 1973, and all your perfect leg shots in the collage of mirrors. If my legs looks that nice I would show them off too, haha. ♥
Christy says
Thank you, Michele! I’m not offended at all, and someone else mentioned that also. The top is accented with white wax that is not showing up in the photos as well as it does in person. 🙂 And ha ha thank you…it is funny to look back and see my lower half in all the photos! XOXO
