Hello lovelies and welcome back! I’m excited to be here on a Wednesday! I’m joining the talented ladies from the Seasonal Simplicity Series hosted by my beautiful friend, Krista from The Happy Housie.
It’s all about summer DIY projects today, and there are eight in all!
You’ll find the links to their projects at the bottom.
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
My summer DIY
I decided to do what I love most and give a piece of furniture some love, except with a summer vibe.
A few weeks ago I took a break from working on my Spring Haul to share this pretty sofa table:
See more of this makeover HERE.
I had just picked it up from an estate sale and wanted to go ahead and get it done to clear up space in the garage.
I also picked up a friend at that same estate sale…
Can you see the cobwebs on that stool?
It was buried in the corner of the garage with a one dollar tag on it. Only a dollar and free cobwebs?? It was definitely coming home with me!
It’s been through it though:
The top especially was in need of some major TLC:
Clean
I started this makeover with a good bath in White Lightning, using a terrycloth pad. I just mix one TBSP of White Lightning in half a gallon of warm water.
It really needed it!
I decided to fill in all those imperfections on top with Dixie Mud instead of sanding them out, and since there were so many, I just covered the whole thing!
If you plan to use Dixie Mud To fill in any imperfections, you’ll want to clean it first.
While that was drying, I used wood glue to secure a couple of loose dowels…
Once the Mud had dried completely, I sanded it smooth with my orbital sander and 220 grit sandpaper:
I used my shop vac and a clean cloth to clean up any sanding dust. I was left with an ugly but very smooth surface to work with!
Paint
I decided to use one of my favorite summer colors, Dixie Belle’s Farmhouse Green, to liven up this stool:
It’s so cheery and fresh!
I gave it two coats, and then I followed it up with some leftover pieces I had of this gorgeous Blossom Botanica transfer:
I used the majority of it on this table I shared recently…
See the full makeover of this table HERE.
This transfer is called Blossom Botanica and you can find it in my Etsy shop HERE!
I saved one good piece for this stool…
It seemed like it needed just a little something more, and this transfer also had a few butterflies in it, which were just what this stool needed…
It’s really feeling like summer now, right?
I sealed with Dixie Belle’s Clear Coat in satin using the blue applicator sponge:
The After
Here is how this cutie looks now:
I decided to photograph it on our porch because it looks right at home out here!
I really need a rug for this space. I bought one last year that was too small, and I just never looked for another!
Let’s get a closer look at the pretty part…
This stool is kind of on the tall side, but it would make a super cute plant stand, or a place to rest your drink while you’re having a swing on the porch!
It’s hard to see, but the top ended up being super smooth after filling in all the imperfections!
Here’s a few more photos of our summer porch!
This first photo is from a couple of weeks ago…my petunias in the planters have really grown since this was taken!
See our latest landscaping update HERE if you missed it.
These photos are all from the same day I photographed the stool…
Hydrangea Wreath
My Tray turned House Numbers Sign is still doing the work!
You can see how my petunias are starting to spill over the sides here…
These were just the $11 hanging baskets from The Home Depot. I have two in each planter.
See more about these window boxes HERE.
I love to sit out here and eat lunch, watching my neighbors come and go.
And if you turn left at the bistro set, this is where you’ll find me most mornings when the weather is nice, on the swing!

Gorgeous stool, I love the colour and the transfer is really pretty. It looks so perfect on your porch, and that sweet little kitten is adorable.xx
Christy says
Thank you, Janette! I might just have to keep it out there! And I had to have that sweet kittie! XOXO
Karen Lee Rogers says
Love the color and the gorgeous transfer !
What a great before and after.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Karen! XOXO
Cathy says
The stool turned out so cute!! But I have to share what my Aunt called cobwebs… if company was over and we had missed a cobweb she would say something about “French Lace” and we would check out where her eyes were looking and then as unobtrusively as possible my cousin or myself would remove the “French Lace”. To this day I still refer to the cobwebs as “French Lace”
Christy says
Oh my goodness, that is such a cute story! I will have to remember that ha ha! Thanks, Cathy! XOXO
Petra says
I just love that shade of green and the stencil really gives it a wow factor! I think you should keep it on your verandah – which by the way is gorgeous! In Australia it’s our first day of winter today – and depending on where you live it can be snowing or sun bathing weather!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Petra! I do love it out there! Your weather is so funny…I hope it is mild where you live! XOXO
Denise Cox says
I love it!! You need to keep it on YOUR porch… it looks right at home there!! That transfer really is gorgeous!!

The way you can take a ragged, ugly old stool, and turn it into a work of art, well I am just running out of complimentary adjectives. So I will just say: what a superlative, sensational, superb, magnificant, monumental, and marvelous makeover.
Christy says
Oh ha ha! You are the best, Marietta! Thank you, my friend! XOXO
Christina says
Love the stool now! It looks so happy, pretty and totally representative of Summer! 🙂
I can visualize you enjoying all the beautiful spots on your porch. So cheerful and the petunias look marvelous!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Christina! I am definitely ready to get this summer party started now! XOXO

I hope you are going to keep this pretty stool because it looks so pretty on your porch and matches the pillows on your swing so well. Your Petunias look gorgeous also as does your entire porch. Was a treat to see a make-over on Wed.
Christy says
I think I might have to keep it out there now! Thank you so much, my friend! This is my happy place, so I am thrilled to get to spend an extra day here this week too! XOXO
Niki says
Beautiful porch Christy. The stool does go well out there especially with the green checkered pillows on the swing. I can’t believe how established your flowers are already. If I had a porch like that I would be out there almost every morning myself.
Christy says
Thank you, Niki! I knew I had to photograph it out there…it really does fit right in! And I know…the petunias are really growing! Have a great day! XOXO
gwen says

Christy says
Thanks so much, Gwen! A dollar well spent ha ha! And yep, my sign is still hanging in there! XOXO
cilla watkins says
LOVE! Beautiful work as always! I couldn’t find the beach glass link? I tried beach glass in her search box and nothing came up but egg shells and knobs. Maybe she isn’t posting today? Thank you for another great post. I might have to try that with a stool I am going to paint.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Cilla! Sorry about that. I just messaged her…she may be in a different time zone and perhaps had the time to go live mixed up? It looks like a good project! XOXO
Teresa Farrell says
Oh Christy, she is so beautiful. She fits right in with sunny days and your lovely porch.
Christy says

Love, love, love it! Green is my favorite color and this is a very beautiful green. Then that transfer! Oh goodness, I couldn’t use it for anything that would cover it up. Lol. That was well worth a dollar! Great makeover!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! This green is lovely for sure! And I don’t think I would want to cover the top of it either ha ha! XOXO
Cindy says
Christy, you have revealed her hidden potential beauty! It’s like she is saying”don’t you judge me by my age.” Now a fresh , sprightly, practical piece of inexpensive but lovely furniture. You always inspire , thank you!

That green is so fresh this year. I just used an old lamp base and a fluted tart pan to make a bird bath and sprayed it a similar color. It really brightens up my garden. Loving the bench!!!🥰
