Hi there, sweet friends, and welcome to Furniture Fixer Upper Day!! Were you expecting a cute little tote makeover today? I was too, until my friends reminded me that it’s the fourth Thursday of the month already! Where has March gone? So instead, I will be pulling out a simple makeover showing how easily you can update a side table with paint. Just paint alone can do wonders!
You’ll find my talented friends’ makeovers at the bottom, so be on the lookout for those!
The piece I chose for today is one I shared in 2020 when the world was in chaos, so it may be new to you:
It was offered to me by the sweetest lady who had several pieces she could no longer hold onto.
The rest of them are all absolute treasures, and I’ll link to their makeovers at the bottom!
This table is such a great example of how just paint alone can really change things up!
I had originally planned to sand the top of this table and stain it since some of the stain had started to come off:
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
However, after sanding with my sander, I could see that it was actually veneer and had already been sanded before down below the veneer:
Paint
So, I gave it a good cleaning and then opted for paint instead. I gave the base two coats of Cotton (this photo is just the first coat) and the top got two coats of this delightful Farmhouse Green:
I wanted to distress this one more than usual, so I used my orbital sander to do that using 220 grit sandpaper.
Seal
Then, I sealed with Clear Coat in Satin using the blue sponge applicator.
The after
Here is how this simple table got a major update with just paint!
I don’t usually do a ton of distressing, but I liked it for this piece to add some character.
Using an electric sander is a great way to easily get this look.
And that pull was a sweet finishing touch to add a little more charm!
This could be cute in just about any room!
I had hoped to find some antique wheels to add to the legs. I thought they would add a bit more charm, but I couldn’t come up with a complete matching set.
I love this green and if you have a lot of greenery, it is almost a neutral.
This pull is one of my favorites from Hobby Lobby…
Sweet and simple!
And as promised, here are four more fantastic makeovers from my friends!
4. Girl in the Garage (This is an oldie…hoping to have Jen back next month!)
These are all the pieces I was blessed with when I got this table…she used the magic word “FREE”, and I came running lol:

I missed that back in 2020 so I am glad you shared. I love that green – it’s such a spring green, and is especially welcome right now. It’s been grey here and this is just what my eyes needed! : – )

Thanks, Michele! Many of the posts I shared in 2020 were missed since we didn’t know which end was up lol, so I’m glad I get to share them again! And yes, this is a fun one for spring!! XOXO

I remember the first time around. Still pretty. It’s good to see how pretty straight and bad tops can come out. I am getting ready to do a small roll top and side table for my makeup and dressing goodies. I am liking these colors together. I think I already have that green. Unfortunately, they are all boxed up as we try to get the new eM Rose Cottage Building up and going and my website and my Etsy shop.
Christy says
Thank you, Marietta! I hope the weather cooperates, so you can get your building all set up! XOXO
