Hello lovelies!! Well, I haven’t quite found everything for my new haul of goodies, but when I saw that today was Furniture Fixer Upper Day, I knew just the piece that I wanted to share!
This table is one that my mom painted around seven or so years ago for a craft market we did together:
It is one of the few pieces that didn’t sell. I put it in my booth for awhile with no takers, so I brought it home and there it sat. And sat. You know how that goes.
I hadn’t planned to share it with y’all because I was just going to slap a quick coat of paint on it and call it a day. However, it is definitely a furniture fixer upper, so here we are!
Good bye beautiful artwork
There was really no way to save the artwork on the top:
Oh yah and did I mention it had been sitting in the garage getting filthy? I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
I took my rotary sander to it using 100 grit sandpaper first to get most of the paint off, then I followed up with 220 grit to smooth everything out.
That was when I realized that the top may have actually been leather underneath. It did sand nice and smooth though!
Remove existing wax
I knew my mom had used Annie Sloan’s clear wax to seal this piece which is oil-based, so I used Odorless Mineral Spirits and a clean cloth to remove any old wax before repainting, so there wouldn’t be any issues with the paint adhering.
Be sure to wear gloves for this part!
Paint
I then gave it a coat of Fluff.
There were just a few small areas that bled through, so I spot primed with white BOSS in those spots and sat it out in the sun for a few hours.
I gave it another coat of Fluff and we were good to go!
After painting, I sanded across the top with 220 grit sandpaper so I would have a super smooth surface to apply my transfer to:
Adding a transfer
I have been wanting to try the new Magnolia Garden Transfer that Dixie Belle just came out with, and this little table was perfect for it!
It comes with four sheets:
I decided to cut out all the larger water color looking blooms:
Then I arranged them how I wanted. These transfers are fantastic because you can arrange the pieces and layer them any way you like.
Here’s what I came up with:
I started with the largest stem, using the included tool to burnish it to the surface of my table:
Next, I added the leaves:
Followed by the blooms…I have found the best way to apply these transfers is to hold one edge and then burnish with the tool, pulling it up a little at a time:
Adding Stripes
Once I was satisfied with the details on top, I decided to add stripes around the perimeter of the top using FrogTape:
I chose this pretty Moonshine Metallic paint called Wedding Belle:
I gave the stripes two coats and removed the tape immediately after applying the second coat.
I felt like it was a little stuffy for my taste, so I decided to add some faux distressing using my distressing block and Coffee Bean paint:
You can see more on how I do that in this quick video:
If you have any trouble viewing, you can see it on YouTube HERE.
Sealing the table
Finally, it was time to seal this table, and for that, I chose my favorite sealer, Clear Coat in Satin. I applied it using the Blue Sponge Applicator, which makes applying the sealer so easy!
You can rinse it out with warm water and use it over and over again!
The grand finale
And here is how this cutie pie table looks now:
And a little closer…
I love the subtle metallic stripes around the edges.
And here is how the top looks:
It’s pretty even with some of the pattern covered.
Here is the whole thing:
This is one of my favorite transfers! And I still have all these pieces left to play with:
And that is one more piece done that I’ve been storing for ages woohoo!
Don’t go anywhere just yet! My Furniture Fixer Upper Gals have their own pieces to share with y’all today!
I’m still on the hunt for a few things for my next haul, I started a new home project, and we are working on another home project, so I’ll be back next to share what we’re working on around here! Plus I’ll be sharing this old favorite:
Update: See what we’ve got going on around here plus see what I did with this little table to freshen it up HERE!
Have a fantastic weekend, dear friends!!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!

Oh my Lord that is so beautiful now! I LOVE that transfer. I noticed that transfer when you added the line to your Etsy shop. I am so glad that you used this one because it is MORE beautiful now that I see it then I thought it would be. I am going to have to get one of that transfer. Your mom will be proud, you gave her table a beautiful new look. I wouldn’t be surprised if she took it back now! LOL!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Mary!! I am so happy that I finally found something to use this pretty transfer on, and yes, my mom will likely want it back now ha ha! XOXO
Sandra Mills says
I recently bought some of the transfers you recommended. I love them but it’s harder to rub them on than it looks.
Christy says
Hi Sandra! I have found with these ones that it is much easier if you pull up one corner and then work from that corner rubbing and pulling the transfer up as you go than if you rub the whole thing and then try to pull it up. Give that a try next time! XOXO
Janice Holt says
This table is just lovely now. Beautiful transfer and the stripes match the transfer so well. Another great job. Have a great week-end.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Janice! Enjoy your weekend too, my friend! XOXO

Christy, I love this revived table! Beautiful! The transfers are just so perfect. The stripes are the perfect color and the faux distressing (thanks for turning me onto that tool) is just right.
Too bad Lyla wouldn’t pose on the table. 🙂
Have a wonderful rest of the week!
Christy says
Thank you, Christina! That tool is awesome for sure! If Lyla could have jumped that high, she would have been right up on there lol! Happy weekend! XOXO

Christy, The hexagon table came out lovely!
But I had trouble with the links to Salvaged Inspiration (error, not found) and GITG didn’t go to mirror, just main page.
Christy says
Thank you, Betty! And thanks for the head’s up on the links! XOXO

I just finished the small round table –again– this time using the transfer with the clock and it is so cute! I wasn’t sure how to seal it but you told me exactly what I needed to know. Love your little table!
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! Yay…don’t you love when things work out so well?! I bet your table is so cute! XOXO
Denise Cox says
Sooo pretty!! I LOVE flowers, but rarely see a Magnolia in my neck of the woods. I like how the stripes match the transfer, as well. Have to admit though, I would have bought your table as it was before. With my love of anything coastal, I thought it was “cute as a button”.. 😋!
Christy says
Thank you, Denise! This was a really pretty table before, when it was still clean that is! It just wouldn’t sell! XOXO
Paula Pentoney says
Christy,
The table is beautiful! I love the transfer you used, and the metallic stripes are subtle but add so much. 😊
Congrats on finishing this sweet piece.
Christy says
Thanks so much, Paula! I don’t know why I waited so long to redo it! XOXO

Aw, such a sweet painting your mum did that you sanded off! Oh well, sometimes you’ve got to do these things. I love the new look and those transfers take it to next level! I’m sure it will be whipped up 🙂 I’m trying MMS Milk paint at the moment – haven’t decided if I like it or not! But I’ve very excitedly ordered some Dixie Bell Cotton which I’m dying to try. Costs a fortune here in Aus but I love trying new (to me) things. Have a great weekend, and I’m sure you’ll find some neat stuff to upcycle! xo
Christy says
I know…I hated to destroy what she had done, but she gave the go ahead so it’s done now lol. I think that is honestly why it took me so long to tackle it! I have a love/hate relationship with milk paint. I love the chippy look that you can get with it, but in my experience, it has been wildly unpredictable. I like to know how my paint will respond lol. I hope you have a good experience with it! And yay! you will love Dixie Belle, and while it is pricey, it does go a long way!! Thanks, Petra! XOXO
Sue Mellette says
Hi, I am a day late responding to your Thursday post. I really do like the new look of your octagon table! The color and the stripes in the metallic are both appealing. I love the transfer, especially the magnolia blossom and leaves! You arranged them so professionally! Really stunning. As I reflect back on the fact that your mom painted the picture that was the on the top, I was wondering, did you think to take a picture of it? That way it could still be preserved. Your mom could even paint over the picture as well and then you would have a wonderful handmade item to remind you of your mom. I guess I am thinking too much about preserving things as I go through my late mother’s house and furnishings! I sometimes have a difficult time of letting go!! Have a wonderful and safe weekend. Looking forward to your Tuesday’s post.
Christy says
Thank you, Sue! I have two special pieces that my mom painted for me that are similar, so I just said good-bye to this one. It wasn’t easy though and likely the reason it took me so long to redo! It must be difficult to go through your mother’s things, and I can imagine it is not an easy task. Enjoy your weekend too, my friend and I’ll see ya Tuesday!XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
Sad to see your mom’s artwork go, but the table is magnificent now, Christy! I love the way you layered the flowers over the leaves, giving it even more dimension. I thought it looked pretty great after the transfer, should know you have more tricks up your sleeve. The stripes set it off perfectly. I can’t imagine it hanging around the booth very long now!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Marcie! It wasn’t easy to erase all her hard work, but it just didn’t work out, unfortunately. She was okay with it though! And I’m so glad you like the new look! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
So pretty with your signature stripes.
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! You know I have to throw some stripes in there LOL! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
This is so pretty…and the stripes are perfect for this table. Love the gold color!! Love the new DB transfer too!! xoxo
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! This is one that I was thrilled to see redone…it has been sitting around forever! XOXO
Monica says
Hello! Can you please tell me anything about the original piece? Age? Era? Thank you!
Christy says
Hi Monica! Unfortunately, I don’t have any information on this piece. It is still in my booth though, so I can check if it has any markings on the bottom the next time I’m there.
