Welcome back, beautiful friends! I had so many photos from our front yard landscaping updates that I decided I would share our porch area in a separate post, so I’m taking ya’ll on a tour of our front porch today! It’ll be a short tour since our porch isn’t that big lol.
If you were expecting to see the secretary desk today, I had my Furniture Fixer Upper days mixed up and that isn’t until next week. At least I was ahead instead of behind, right? So, I’ll be back with that next week!
On with the porch tour!
On Tuesday, I shared the updates we’ve made to our front landscaping this Spring:
Today, we’ll take a closer look at what’s up on the porch!
The hydrangea wreath on the front door is one I made a couple of years ago. It’s simple, but I still love it!
And how about our fancy number sign to the right of our door…
Ya’ll might remember that it started out as a small tray I picked up at the thrift store for $3! You can see that makeover HERE.
I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
The bold numbers are easy to see from the street.
The bench in front of my office window is one of the first things I purchased for the porch the Summer we moved in:
I found it on Overstock.com, but I don’t think the same one is available anymore. The planters on either side originally came from Walmart and were an off white color. We brought them with us when we moved and I spray painted them black.
This sweet kitty followed us from our previous house too…
He used to sit on our back deck railing.
A lucky curbside find!
I mentioned in a previous post that I had ordered something for the porch that I was waiting on.
I knew I wanted to add a set of table and chairs to the front corner as I’m usually on my own for breakfast and lunch, and I love to eat outdoors when the weather allows.
I got lucky with the chairs!
My neighbors were moving and had these out for their moving sale along with a table that was broken.
When the set didn’t sell, these chairs went on the curb along with table, and I snatched the chairs right up!
There are four in all, so I have two left.
That allowed me to splurge a bit on a pretty table for this space, and I found the perfect one on Amazon:
It fits perfectly into this corner of our porch:
It has really been nice these past few days with all the noise going on with the tile installation indoors, to have this space to retreat to. My hubby has been working from home in the mornings, and it even became his office for a bit!
After a coat of spray paint, the chairs look like brand new!
The seat pads are a tad small, but they’ll do for now.
I redid these two chairs a couple of years ago for around the corner on our side porch, and this is what it looked like out here then:
You can see how easy it is to recover your old outdoor cushions HERE.
But, we never sat out here and they were really just for looks.
My Favorite
Then came my favorite addition to our porch!!
This porch swing was my mother’s day gift last year:
That’s when I really started to enjoy this space, and I sit out here all the time!
I believe this is the swing I have.
I bought these cute green buffalo check pillow covers HERE last Summer when we could only shop online.
They were very inexpensive, and that’s all you need if you already have pillows you can cover. I purchased these pillow forms for mine. Each covered pillow ended up costing around $11…perfect for my budget!
Here is my morning view from the swing…
The other chair that was here got booted to this area on the other side of our house:
Not that we ever sit near the always-overflowing garbage cans, but it adds a little pretty on this side.
Potted flowers add instant charm…
I potted a hydrangea and some impatiens as they both enjoy this shady spot. The cat came from HomeGoods. I spied it there last week and had to get it!
The star of the porch is definitely the window boxes though.
I found these on Amazon also HERE. I paid $120 or so for the pair, but it looks like they have gone up. I think Lowes had them on their site also. These are the 36″ ones and they are just the right size for my porch.
Here is what I used to fill each one:
These are petunias. I used one hanging basket and one pot of petunias mixed with something else that I found at the Home Depot.
I had to drill drainage holes in the boxes first, but they are marked for you, and I put several small stones over the holes so they would drain properly once I added the soil.
And here is how they attach:
That metal piece can expand to fit a larger wooden deck railing also.
I’m definitely a fan! Now if I can just keep them watered!
I hope you enjoyed seeing a peek of the porch! It’s one of my favorite spaces in our home!
And here’s a peek of one of my other favorite spaces…the kitchen!
The tile is almost installed!!
Okay that doesn’t tell you much lol…here’s a better one!
Is it amazing or is it amazing? I could not be happier!!
If you forgot what our old tile looked like, you can see it HERE!
They should be finished completely by tomorrow, fingers crossed! I’ve got a lot of dusty clean-up to do this weekend!
I’ll be squeezing in a thrifty makeover to share on Tuesday though…this sweet little thrift store box:
UPDATE: Check out how pretty this box looks now HERE!
Have a wonderful weekend!
XOXO,
Don’t Miss a Thing!
If you like what you see, there are several ways to follow along!
Mary Kaiser says
Wow your porch is so cute, I love it! I wish my porch was that big so I could decorate mine and I could have a porch swing. Thanks for sharing yours though, I love it! Can’t wait to see your new floors all done, how beautiful!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I fell in love with the porch when we looked at this house…they are hard to come by in our area. I’m told they might finish with the tile today…I hope so! Have a great weekend! XOXO
Cheryl Atkinson says
Christy, everything looks so pretty. I love the black. What a great place for morning coffee. I can’t wait to see what you do with that box because I have one shaped just like it.
Christy says
Thank you, Cheryl! I love to sit out there in the mornings! See ya Tuesday! XOXO
Lilly says
Christy, your patio set looks so adorable and goes perfect with your swing! But one of those photos gave me a tiny peek at your backyard and your arbor and of course some flowers. Soooo, now I’m soo curious to see your yard and flower beds. haha! Maybe you can give us a little peek at what you’ve done in your yard in this house soon?!!? 😀
Take care,
Lilly
Christy says
Thank you, Lilly!! The back yard is my hubby’s playground. He has the back and I have the front and we are allowed to do whatever we want in each. It’s a great compromise! His is much larger and still a work in progress though, but I’ll share it once he finishes with it! XOXO
Paula@SweetPea says
Your porch looks so welcoming! I would love to sit out there with you with a cocktail chatting away. I am in love with your kitchen floor. Looking forward to the reveal!
Christy says
Thank you, Paula! Mine doesn’t have the amazing view that your lake house does, but it would still be a lovely place to sit and chat the night away! They are saying they might be finished with the tile today…here’s hoping!! Have a fantastic weekend! XOXO
Denise Cox says
I’ve been awake since 3:30, but finally got up at 4 and now sitting out on MY teeny porch (but HEY, it’s a porch with lots of sunshine ALL day long …lol). I LOVE your porch, Christy, and a lovely job you’ve done !! You and I have similar tastes /ideas. I’d enjoy being your neighbor and sharing a cup of joe with you in the mornings… ☕😊.
Christy says
Wow, you are an early bird…I bet that is a great time to enjoy your porch in the quiet morning hours though! Thank you, my friend! It would be awesome to be able to meet on the porch in the mornings! XOXO
Christina says
Christy, I adore your porch!! Oh my stars, I want to sit on that porch swing with a huge glass of sweet tea! And have coffee in the morning at the corner table. (Sweet find with the chairs!) The window boxes are so pretty!! You rocked this as usual!!!
Now… your new floors… WOW! I adore them! Great choice!!!
Have a wonderful weekend yourself!!
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Christina! I have really enjoyed that table since we got it! Glad you like the floors…I am thrilled with them so far! XOXO
Cecilia says
I absolutely love your porch! Makes me want to refresh my small front porch! I always wanted a large front porch…I think that’s one of the things I love the most about old houses. Yours reminds me of those. Curbside finds are the best! What a great spot to enjoy some quiet time.
Christy says
Thank you, Cecilia! You are lucky to have a porch too! And I almost took those chairs right out of my neighbors hands as he was taking them to the curb lol! XOXO
Mary says
Super cute!! I have the same cement stretching cat!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! And yay…I love that little fella! XOXO
Gin says
Beautiful, You are so talented
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Gin! XOXO
Meg says
Oh my Christy I love how you have decorated your porch. It is so comfy and inviting. When can I come over for coffee? Curious about what sun exposure your porch gets. NSEW? You are so thrifty just like me. I love this about the authentic you!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Meg! You can stop by anytime! Our porch gets early morning sun and then it’s shady the rest of the day. And I do love a deal! I’ve always been thrifty and no stopping anytime soon ha ha! XOXO
Janice Holt says
Everything looks beautiful on your porch and yard. I’m assuming those are Wave Petunia. The more they grow, the prettier they will be but I’m sure you know that. In love with the flooring also. I ordered small size of the dried sage to see if it’s the color I’m looking for (think it is) and if so, will order a larger size. Have a great week-end.
Christy says
Thank you, Janice! I think they are wave petunias. I just love them! Your package is on its way! Enjoy your weekend too! XOXO
Karen Thompson says
Love your porch! It looks so inviting and relaxing. (TIP: I use cut up pool noodles in bottom of pots instead of rocks so they’re not so heavy) Your floors are going to be fabulous, can’t wait to see the final AFTER pics.
Christy says
Thank you, Karen! And thank you for that tip…I’ll have to remember that for next year! The floors might be finished today…so exciting! XOXO
Jackie C says
Beautiful. Shutters would be the perfect accent. Your brick home is beautiful, but I keep thinking and picturing ‘ROMABIO’ !!
Check out their instagram and also romabio.com
It’s the most beautiful transformation and I think right up your alley.
Christy says
Thank you, Jackie! I do love the white-washed look on brick. It would be gorgeous on our home! XOXO
Cecilia from Georgia says
Your porch and landscaping is so welcoming and the flower boxes are awesome! I love your porch ceiling with the arches. I’m glad you could see past the ugly when you bought this house because it is really a gorgeous place now!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Cecilia! I’m glad I could convince my hubby that this was the one! XOXO
Angee Cox says
Good morning to you beautiful friend 🙂 I love how cozy and beautiful your porch is! I would sit in the swing all the time too😍 thank you for being such a bright spot in my day! Bless you and your family 💗
Christy says
Aww thank you, Angee! You are the sweetest!! Enjoy your day, my friend! XOXO
Becky says
Your porch spaces are absolutely beautiful! So peaceful looking. And the flowers and plants…! It’s finally past frost risk here, and I hauled a million houseplants out to my decks yesterday. 😊 I love a porch or deck full of plants and comfortable furniture. 😊
That new floor is fantastic! Can’t wait to see the end result!
Christy says
Thank you, Becky! Oh your plants will love the fresh air and sunshine! The floors are almost done and they might even finish today woohoo!! XOXO
Nancy Sharp says
I love your porch. I especially love the way it goes down the side of your house. Eating at that table would be a treat for me. You’ve influenced me to use my Lanai more before the our weather gets unbearably hot and humid.
Christy says
Thank you, Nancy! And I love that!! Last summer I was able to enjoy the early mornings on my swing before the heat settled in…after about 10 am, it gets too hot for sure! I’m hoping to enjoy some breezy morning breakfasts out there this year! Enjoy yours too! XOXO
Celia says
Christy you did a beautiful job, I love everything you did to your porch. A really good decision was painting your front door black, so elegant! And your kitchen floor, ooo-lala it’s gorgeous ! I want that! Is it porcelain?
Christy says
Thank you so much, Celia! Yes, I might have forgotten to mention that the floor is tile! It looks so much like wood lol! XOXO
Sue Mellette says
OMG! I love, love your porch!!! What a beautiful, charming and serene place to just relax, think, have coffee or wine in the evening. I love the black and white, and the plants and flowers you added just provide the finishing touch. I am usually not a fan of swings, but I love yours and what a thoughtful Mother’s Day gift!! I hope you enjoy your porch for years to come! This post has given me lots of ideas for our patio! Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Sue! I’m so glad you found some ideas for your patio! I loved my mother’s day gift for sure as I had been wanting a swing since we moved in. I’m hoping to use that area a lot this summer! XOXO
Denise Zdziennicki says
Wrap-around porches are my FAV! Wish I lived closer so we could hang out on your spiffy porch my friend! 😉 And your tiles are GORGEOUS!!! XOXO
Christy says
Yes!! I SO wish you lived closer!! We could sit not the porch and chat for hours! I fell in love with this porch the moment I saw it, and I’m thrilled that I can take full advantage of it now. The tilers are almost done and might even finish today woo hoo!! Thanks, my dear friend! Have an amazing weekend! XOXO
Karen Moore says
Wonderful space. Everything is perfect. You might consider drip for the window boxes. Last year I put all my pots on drip (and I have a lot) and it’s a game changer.
Christy says
Thank you, Karen! Drip? What is this you speak of…I’m going to look it up!! XOXO
Karen Moore says
You might want to check out Garden Answer on youtube. She has a great gardening channel with tons of pots and they are on drip. She discusses it on some of the videos.
Christy says
Yes…she’s the first video that came up when I searched for it. Very helpful! I have quite a few planters that need watering, so for now, I’ll just pull out the hose. I will definitely keep the drip irrigation in mind for the future though. Thank you!! 🙂
Char says
I’d love to sit with you on your front deck. It’s beautiful! I particularly love the black and white stripes and a pop of celery green!
Christy says
Thank you, Char! I wish I could invite you all over for a cold drink!! XOXO
Patty says
Porch envy here, Christy! 🙂 Just lovely – looks like you (I can picture you enjoying that space – although with all you do, I can’t imagine you get enough “off” time out there). The kitties make it even more special💕
The kitchen floor looks amazing! . I know you must be thriled and such a treat for you not to have to install it!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Patty! When I want a minute to myself, that is the first place I head to! And YES! You don’t know how true that statement is…we do everything ourselves, and having our tile installed for us was the biggest treat ever!! XOXO
SallyJoJo says
Can you tell me what you use to hand your wreath on the door? I love that it isn’t visible
Christy says
Hi SallyJoJo! I used a command hook. It works great! XOXO
Addie says
Lovely porch!!! Nicely done. I too would have my morning coffee out there…but I would scare the neighborhood kids in my pj’s and crazed A.M. hair!!!
You live in a VERY nice development…..love your street lights to…charming!!! Very nice…EXCEPT that HOA won’t let you hide the garbage cans!!!…REALLY???…..that doesn’t even make sense. You should go to their meetings and propose a solution with “guidelines”….they LOVE guidelines/control…their stamp approval. Get signatures!!! GO GIRL!!!
Christy says
Thank you, my friend! I feel so blessed that we were able to buy in this neighborhood. That was thanks to it being a rental for years and looking like an axe murderer lived inside and all lol…we got a bit of a deal! And if there were more hours in the day, I would be all over the HOA! XOXO
Shelly says
Love your porch! How long can you keep a hydrangea bush in a pot? I would love to do that!
Christy says
Thank you, Shelly! I’m not sure, actually. Last year I bought Mini Penny Hydrangeas…they are a bit more petite, and I had them in the planters on either side of the bench and they did great! Unfortunately, I dumped them at the end of the summer to replace them with mums. I plan to keep this one potted over the winter though, so we’ll see how it goes! XOXO
susan says
The porch is so pretty! And I love that you bought a bench and didn’t make one 😆
Christy says
Thank you, Susan! Ha ha..yes the instant gratification often wins lol! XOXO
Constance Colvin says
Christy you rock! You’re a ball of energy!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Connie! XOXO
Rose Lefebvre says
Hope my next home will have a great porch! I would love to have a sitting area with a couple of rockers! Loks so nice!
Christy says
Thank you, Rose! I hope you have one on your next home too! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
I can see why you’d be out there all the time, Christy. I love a porch swing! Actually, I love everything about a porch. Sweet deal on the chairs – they look perfect with the rest of the furniture. I’m still trying to get up the nerve to recover my patio furniture. Maybe reading your post again will help spur me on. Oh, and, yes, the kitchen floor does look pretty amazing.
Christy says
I do love swinging out there, and it is hard to get up and get back to work lol. The chairs were just what I needed…I’m so excited about those! Yes, reread the cushion cover post. If you can sew a straight line, you can totally recover your cushions! They are about 90% done with the floors…lots of cleaning happening around here tonight ha ha! XOXO
Michele M. says
Love love love your porch. It is amazing and I would be out there as much as possible. You have decorated it perfectly! I love the black and white with bits of lime green – so crisp and fresh and awesome.
GREAT score of the freebies. You sure are good at spotting treasures!
Christy says
Thank you, Michele! I am planning to really enjoy my porch this summer! And ha ha…I almost took those chairs right out of my neighbor’s hands as he was putting them on the curb…so glad I was home to grab them! XOXO
Donna Nance says
Wow, I can see why you love your porch! You “find” the best stuff and do amazing makeovers.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Donna!! XOXO
Nancy @ Artsy Chicks Rule says
Your porch is so pretty! Love the new window boxes…and the kitchen tile!! I need to come see it in person sometime…miss you! xoxo
Christy says
Thank you, my friend! The tile is complete and after a day of cleaning the dust off of just about every surface, I am in love!! I hope you get the chance to see it soon…miss you too!! XOXO
Tracey Baxter says
Hi Christy, you are such an inspiring lady. I am working on improving my home by painting doors, furniture and pottering. Your home is gorgeous, well done and best wishes, Tracey 🇦🇺
Christy says
Aww I appreciate that, Tracey! Thank you! Have fun tackling your own home! XOXO
Leslie says
Wow, your porch is just gorgeous! You have made it such a peaceful and relaxing space. I’ve never had a big front porch, though it’s one of my dreams. I used to have a big screened back porch and deck, and that porch may have been my favorite room in our house.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Leslie! I really enjoy that space. I have always wanted a screened-in porch! XOXO
