Hello sweet Friends! Anyone out there as obsessed with dishes as I am? One place I always check out at thrift stores is the dish aisle. Lord knows I don’t need one more single solitary dish, but just between you and me…I look at them anyway. Occasionally, some make it into my cart.
Today three such pieces are getting their chance to be more than they ever thought they could:
They became a sweet place to toss your favorite jewelry pieces:
It is perfect for earrings, rings, and bracelets, especially those pieces you use every day.
Look familiar? I shared one I created one very similarly last year.
The spindle pieces holding the dishes together were once candlesticks that I cut to fit using my miter saw…
I attached them to the china using (affiliate link) E6000 glue:
That glue takes about 24 hours to completely dry, but it works amazingly well!
I don’t think the bottom piece was originally part of this set, but it coordinates perfectly.
This could also hold make up!
Here is the one I made using a few aqua pieces in this very same way last year as part of my March Madness series:
That is one of the few pieces I kept for myself. It sits on my bathroom vanity and I use it daily. You can see more of it HERE.
It also got me a two page magazine spread!
Woot woot! It was fun coming across it at Michaels while traveling with GMC last Summer. My buddy, Nancy from Artsy Chicks Rule, snapped that picture. We were following the World’s Longest Yard Sale in search of treasures to furnish a Habitat for Humanity house for a very special family! What an amazing experience that was. You can read all about it HERE.
I made another one of these organizers that was very similar since I had a few more of those cool blue pieces, and that sold in my booth, so I knew I wanted to create another one with some of these pretty floral pieces I’ve been hoarding saving.
This is $3 worth:
It’s amazing what you can make for next to nothing!
Unfortunately I won’t be hosting my March Madness, 31 Thrifty Makeovers in 31 Days Series this year. I absolutely LOVED meeting y’all here every day during the last two Marches. I loved creating all those pieces to share, and it really got my creative juices energized! Plus I tackled a ton of items that had been hanging around my garage for way too long.
However, after all that time at my computer writing those posts last year, I ended up with a bum shoulder. That is the only thing I can figure that caused it. It is finally feeling good again so I don’t want to chance hurting it again. Don’t count me out for next year yet though.
Thanks for visiting today!
Meet me back here Thursday to see how I saved this antique table from my Mom’s attic:
Have a fantastic day! 😀
UPDATE: See how this neglected gem turned out HERE now!

That turned out really cute! I am sad that you won’t be doing March Madness this year, but I also understand. You and your post with all your AMAZING projects are still #1!!! I get up very early every morning, extra early on Tuesday and Thursday so I can have extra time to enjoy your post with my coffee, thanks for that.
Christy says
Aww you are so sweet, Mary, thank you!! I’m so glad to hear you enjoy what I share! XOXO

What a jewel of a piece. That would be great sitting on a table by the entry way to place care keys, loose change,( if anyone ever has any loose change now days) etc.
You got me inspired to make one for each of my daughters and I know my oldest grand daughter would like one as well.
Christy says
Thanks, Colleen! Yes, this would be great by the entry too! Have fun making them for your girls…picking out the pieces is the most fun part! XOXO

Great inspiration and you know I adore tiered displays! 🙂 My eyes are open to new possibilities! 🙂
First things first… you are taking good care of you and that is fabulous! 🙂
Thanks always,
Christina

Thanks so much, Christina! XOXO

I always find so much inspiration from you and your blog. I love this! What a great way to use three pieces of china (or other dishes). Not to mention a pretty place to put your jewelry!
Christy says
Aww thank you, Cecilia! That means a lot to me! 🙂
Paula says
This is a great way to use odds and ends of pretty china that often is lurking at the thrift shop. I hope your shoulder stays well. Sitting at the computer is surprisingly hard on the body.
Christy says
Oh yes absolutely! And yes, who knew you could injure yourself sitting still? Not taking any chances this time. 🙂
Marcie Lovett says
Great idea! Loved the earlier one and this one is cute, too. Always happy to see how turn to treasure and excited to see that lovely table next.
Christy says
Thanks, Marcie! See ya Thursday! 🙂

Can’t wait to see what you do with that pretty table of your mother’s. You have brilliant ideas! Can I ask if you got paid for the article in the magazine? I wonder if magazines PAY for ideas for their magazines. What a great honor! Heal, and I look forward to your more of your sensational ideas and blog.
Christy says
Thanks so much, Sherry! No I did not get paid for that magazine spot. I’ve made it into a few and there was no payment received for any of them. It’s kinda sad actually, but it’s still nice to see your work in print. 🙂

What a clever way to repurpose a sugar bowl! I love DIY tiered stands using bowls, trays, plates but topping it with a sugar bowl is even better – so pretty! Pinning and sharing.
P.S. Sad to see no 2017 March Madness but feel your pain (literally).
Christy says
Thanks, Marie! I love how this one turned out with the sugar bowl on top too! And yes I am quite bummed about not doing March Madness this year. I love doing all the projects for it as it is a great motivator to get things done, but my shoulder just can’t take the time it requires in front of the computer, and you know how long it takes to put just one post together, so you can imagine what it’s like putting one together every day! XOXO

Absolutely adorable!!
I’m currently in the process of cleaning out my parents home of more than 50 years. I’m finding all sorts of treasures but have no idea what to do with them, thanks for some cute useful ideas!
Christy says
Thank you! You are so welcome, Glenda! XO

How cute is that! I have said it before but I will say it again. You are soooo creative and talented.

Aww thanks SO much, Pamela!! XOXO

I know, me too!!!
Rose Lefebvre says
LOVE the turquoise tiered one!
Christy says
Thanks Rose…me too! 😀
Robin says
I so love your makeovers. You inspire me to makeover my thrift store finds. I will be sad to miss March Madness with you but so happy your shoulder is better.
Christy says
Aww thank you, Robin!! I am sad to not be doing March Madness either…maybe I need to start now for next year so I’ll have no excuses lol! XOXO
Cathy says
That piece is so adorable! And to be featured in a magazine? So very cool! I am really inspired to DIY by everything you create!
I have a question, did you paint a sewing desk w/ drawers in yellow underneath and white on top then distressed so the yellow came through? It was awhile back and I found a sewing desk very similar at GW, and wanted to paint it like yours…..if it’s yours. I could not find it in your archives, so then I couldn’t remember where I had seen it. Thank you!
Warm wishes,
Cathy
Christy says
Aww thank you, Cathy! The sewing table was not mine I’m afraid, but it sounds really lovely! Hope you find the original source! XO

I’m glad you mentioned your GMC-sponsored project during the World’s Longest Garage Sale last year. It was so much fun to track your progress and I’m so glad someone thought to film the reveal. But at the same time I noted it was a missed opportunity for GMC that they didn’t hire a film crew to travel with you. They could have easily pitched it as an HGTV special. Everyone I know would watch that!!
Christy says
I’m so glad you enjoyed our GMC trip, Lauri! That was such an amazing opportunity, but I think you’re right…they really could do so much more with it. Although it was stressful enough with our short timeline so I’m secretly glad there weren’t camera crews following us around ha ha! XO
