Hello dear friends and Happy Thanksgiving to my friends here in the United States! I am SO thankful for each and every one of you!!
I am going to keep today’s post short so y’all can get back to all things Turkey day. I’m sharing my next project: our master bedroom!
If you scrolled all the way to the bottom of Tuesday’s post, or if you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen this photo:
Yep. That’s our ginormous sleigh bed, and that is me getting started on banishing the brown. After sharing our master bedroom last week when I was showing y’all what I did with these mirrors, I was more motivated than ever to make some changes in this space.
Here are a few photos from that post to refresh your memory:
There is just too much wood in here for me. The only piece I do love in this space is my night table that I picked up at an estate sale. If our whole set was this style, I don’t think I would be considering paint.
There are a few other pieces in the room that you didn’t see.
Here is my dresser:
And a lovely view of our unmade bed! #reallifeyall And I do normally have decor on my dresser, but I had removed it and then remembered I needed a before photo.
And here is my hubby’s dresser:
And that is his decor haha. It’s crying SOS.
My plan is to paint the furniture first.
Then I’d also like to do something with this chair:
It actually goes with the mini sofa in my office that I slipcovered a few years back. Here is part of it in this picture from my faux stone wall reveal:
You can see how I slipcovered the sofa in this post.
I will probably do something similar.
I’d also like to replace the ceiling fan:
Neither my hubby nor I use the ceiling fan, and I think a pretty light fixture would look much better.
I’ll need to update my mirror as well:
Then the fun part…decorating! I’d like to find something for this wall opposite the bed:
As well as something to go on either side of my dresser:
Maybe some candle sconces?
I also need something for above the bed and I have something in mind already, and I’d like to add a rug to anchor the bed:
If I can figure out a way to add height to this table so that it matches the height of my hubby’s nightstand, that would be great:
His name is Brian, by the way. I always refer to him as hubby. 🙂
I am also going to be on the hunt for some new things to decorate both of our dressers.
I hope y’all don’t mind hanging out with me in our master bedroom for a couple of weeks while I get it all done. I am really excited about finally doing something in here, and it is looking so much better already!!
Don’t worry, I have a whole new haul to work through, so I’ll be back working on those before you know it.
I’ll be back with the bed reveal on Tuesday!
UPDATE: See how the bed looks paintedHERE now!
Have a fantastic weekend!
XOXO,

I can’t wait either haha! Thanks and I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! XOXO
Julie says
I’m looking forward to seeing the transformation of your bedroom. I also think your bedside table (as we call them her in Oz) is just fine at that height.
Christy says
Thanks, Julie! This redo has been a long time coming! I appreciate your input on my bedside table. I might have to leave it as is, so I’m glad to hear your thoughts! XOXO
Sheila DelCharco says
I’m so excited for you! So Brian agreed to paint after all? Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Christy says
Thank you, Sheila! Happy Thanksgiving! Yes!! He agreed! I am so excited to be tacking this project! XOXO
Carla says
Happy Thanksgiving!
I can’t wait to see how you transform your master bedroom.
Christy says
Thanks, Carla! Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! I am excited to see changes in this room finally! XOXO
Denise says
Can I suggest a simple and cheap update – your lamp shades are quite old fashioned and would look better with a drum shade in a neutral colour and maybe the bases painted too.
Also take the fitted mirror off of your dresser and hang it on the wall (maybe on one side and add some art)
This will lighten the look and update it too.
Christy says
Thanks for the suggestions, Denise! XOXO
Kellogg says
I love it ALL but please don’t paint that round table!!! Its so pretty just the way it is! Maybe find another bedside table at the thrift and use that round one as a compliment to your chair!! Beautiful work!!!!
Christy says
I know!! I love that round table just as it is. I’m afraid it will stick out though, so I might have a tough decision to make when I get to it! Thank you!! XOXO
Christina in SW FL says

Christy says
I think so too, Cheryl! I can’t wait to see it all completed! Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! XOXO
Phyllis says
I can’t imagine tackling this large project just before Christmas! As well, I would have to place drop cloths everywhere. You are a great painter. Looking forward to seeing the process and the result. I know you will be much happier than buying a new bedroom suite.
Christy says
It’s funny, but I was imagining how cute our bedroom would be decorated for Christmas with all our furniture freshly painted, and that is what pushed me to get to it! I already bought a tree for it too haha. And you are so right, I will be much happier with this set painted than purchasing a new one! XOXO
Manelle says
Absolutely lovely antique bedside table. Leave height alone! Stack a couple of old books &place lamp on that. Much more interesting. I’d think twice before making so much white furniture in there. Balance charm w country look.
Christy says
Thank you for your thoughts, Manelle! I appreciate it! XOXO
Marie says
Happy cooking, happy entertaining, Happy Thanksgiving!
Christy says
Thank you, Marie! It was a busy two days of getting ready and over in a flash lol! XOXO

Maia says
I was just reading in a décor magazine a letter to the editor commending them on the fact that they now use the name “principal bedroom” in place of “master bedroom.” I’d like to suggest that it’s probably time that we all start consciously making this shift, me included!
I really look forward to your posts. Your work is very professional. I am so looking forward to seeing the beautiful sleigh bed painted – I think it will bring out all the carved bits – and to see the rest of the ttansformation of your…pricipal…bedroom!
Thanks for sharing all your charming and inspiring work with us!
Christy says
Thank you so much, Maia! I had never given that name much thought before…very interesting! My bed is finished and I love it! The paint really did bring out all the pretty detail. I am so excited to be tackling our principal bedroom! 🙂 XOXO
kira says
I’m shocked hubby let you paint the furniture!!! I thought he was set on it not being painted, you must have quite the powers of persuasion 😉 It will be gorgeous, thanks for bringing us along for the ride!! I can’t wait to see what you do.
Christy says
He actually gave me the go-ahead several years ago when we lived at our old house. He wasn’t particularly attached to it. It was just a daunting project, so I kept putting it off. I will tell you though that he now thinks it is looking too girly lol! Thank you, Kira! XOXO
Karen Thompson says
I can’t wait to see the bedroom once complete. I so want to get rid of all the wood in our bedroom too but haven’t been able to convince my husband of that just yet! I’m also jealous that you can paint with no drop cloths underneath everything, especially on the carpet! LOL Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Christy says
I can’t wait either, Karen! It is looking so good so far though! My hubby wanted to know where the drop cloths were as well lol. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well! XOXO
Gloria Wyssbrod says
It will be beautiful when you finish. We need our ceiling fans here in Tennessee. Lol I really love the mirrors wish I could find a pair that match. I have a few odds shaped ones I guess I could make thay work.
I lost my husband a little over two years ago. He wouldn’t have cared.
Christy says
Thank you, Gloria! My husband gets very dry eyes, so he can’t use a fan and I never have used one. I think if you can find two mirrors similar enough, that might work. I am sorry to hear about your husband. It’s nice when they are easy-going like that. Mine doesn’t care too much either what I do with our decor. XOXO
Karen Hanssen says
How exciting!!! You are such an inspiration!! May I have an ounce of your energy!!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! 🦃
Karen Hanssen
Christy says
Aww thank you so much, Karen! I do have a hard time sitting still haha! Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! XOXO
Lisa says
Hi Christy!
Happy Thanksgiving! I can’t wait to see what you do with your bed and dressers. I have a huge pine sleighbed and matching dressers and nightstands that have turned orange…yuck. I’ve been thinking about painting them for a very long time. Looking forward to your final post to give me the courage to just do it! (Love the free standing mirror, I have the same one, ha!)
Enjoy the many wonderful blessings of this day with your family!
Lisa
Christy says
Thank you so much, Lisa! If you decide to paint your pine, be sure to prime with a shellac-based primer first to cover the knots or they will bleed through over time. I know what you mean by them turning orange. I had a set of coffee and end tables like that. What a difference paint will make! I love that mirror ha! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as well! XOXO
Mary Kaiser says
Wow I know it will all be fantastic, everything you do is fantastic!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! I think it is so funny that all the years I have been following you that I never knew your hubby’s name was Brian. LOL I really thought his name was hubby!! I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!!
Christy says
You are the sweetest, Mary! You know I always appreciate your kind words! It just occurred to me as I was writing my post that I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned his name in seven years haha! I hope you enjoyed a very blessed day! XOXO
Addie says
Gobble Gobble Christy!!! Good plans for the room but you MUST paint those grapes purple!!!! That ceiling fan HAS TO GO!!! I would feel like an airplane was in the room. Ok….now I have to ask….All this right before Christmas??? It is flu season too!!! You GO GIRL!!!
Addie xoxo
Ps Why is the lettering on the new site in the comments so tiny?….I don’t know what the heck I am writing!!!
Christy says
Thank you, Addie! Purple? ha ha!! Yes, I agree the ceiling fan looks like something from space…all of our ceiling fans look like that! And the funny thing about doing this right before Christmas is that I was picturing how cute our bedroom would look all dressed for Christmas with a brand new paint job and that is what pushed me to do it!! True story! I didn’t realize the comment lettering was so small. I’m sorry about that. I will look into it and see if I can change it! XOXO
Christy says
Yay! I think I was able to enlarge the comment box text! Thanks for letting me know! 🙂
Addie says
YAy!!!! much better…..in fact giant. It was soooo tiny before.
Love it!!! thanks!!!! 😉
Christy says
Perfect! 😊
LeAnn Hileman says
Very ambitious of you, I’m anxiously awaiting the results. I too am burdened with sooooo much brown, a huge set my hubby acquired long before we married. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! And don’t work too hard afterward!
Christy says
I know, right? This project was very daunting because everything is so large! I am anxious to see the end results too! Maybe you could paint yours next?? 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! XOXO
Jo-Ann says
I love all your projects. Excited to see how it will turn out.
Christy says
Thank you so much, Jo-Ann! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
OMG, 14 people on top of all that furniture renovation?!? You are a hardy soul, Christy! I think the old bedroom set is going to look great when you’re finished. It’s a big job, but it beats shopping for new. I know that bedroom will be amazing when you finish all your projects! Hope you and the entire family have a wonderful day.
Christy says
Thank you, Marcie! We had a great day and everything went well! This is a very big job, but I think I’d rather do all of this than bother with finding a new set, then decide what to do with this one, etc. Plus, the money I save on a new set can be used to decorate woohoo! Hope you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving, my friend! XOXO
Patti says
Yay Christy! I knew that set would look lovely in white! Can’t wait to see it finished. 😊
Christy says
Oh yes…it looks so good so far! I’m excited to see it finished too! XOXO
Kim says
Christy, what paint are you using? Did you have to prime? I know it will be gorgeous!
Christy says
Hi Kim! I am using Dixie Belle in Fluff…no priming required! I will be sure to share all the details when I share the finished space! Thanks!! XOXO
Kathy M says
Looking forward to seeing the transformation Christy!
Christy says
Thank you, Kathy! XOXO
Margie says
Oh that bed is going to be beautiful, can’t wait to see finished product. Lol I could NEVER paint without drop cloths all over.I can get paint on myself just opening the can. Happy Thanksgiving.
Christy says
Thank you, Margie! The funny thing is, I had paint all over my arms, but the carpet was spared haha! Happy Thanksgiving to you too! XOXO
Sue Duffy says
Can’t wait, Christy. Are you using white Boss on the bed before painting? Couldn’t tell what was in the DB jar.
Christy says
Hi Sue! I was able to go right to painting since this set is not a potential bleeder. That was a jar of Fluff. 🙂 XOXO
Linda says
I love your office! I like the bedroom set, but painting it would be nice, also.
Christy says
Thank you, Linda! It is a small room to the right just as you come in the front door, so I had to make it pretty! 🙂 XOXO
KitsyKeelSmith says
Hi Christy,
Your husband has great taste in furniture. I am all for painting furniture, in fact I do it quite a bit, but to destroy that beautiful burled maple or oak on the drawers makes me so sad. Could you possibly sell the set and buy something white? You could probably get a really good price for something so gorgeous. I have seen some fabulous furniture painted but with the drawer fronts left natural, It really makes a statement. Just my thoughts, hope you don’t mind me voicing my opinion. I love your blog and you have many very good ideas.
Christy says
Thank you, Kitsy! I always appreciate hearing other’s thoughts! A plant we had on my hubby’s dresser that leaked left an area that bubbled up, so I’m pretty sure it is not solid wood if that puts your mind at ease, at least on the top anyway. It is very well made, however, so I wanted to try to keep it. I could never get enough for it to cover the cost of a new set, and this just makes more sense to me financially, plus painting it will make it something I love. I do appreciate your thoughts! XOXO
Patty says
Oh Christy, you are my “hero” at furniture make overs!! I wish we lived closer so you could encourage me in person to get busy on my paint projects – which will have to wait until after the holidays. And you are a cook, too! 🙂 Can’t wait to see the finished room – one of the rooms that I also will be making changes to. Hoping you enjoyed your Thanksgiving and didn’t work yourself to death getting ready for the day! Thanks so much for sharing – you really are such an encourager! I will be ordering some Dixie Bell once I get the walls painted, so I can start on a few pieces of furniture.
Christy says
Aww you are so sweet, Patty, thank you! I would love to be able to encourage you in person. What if that was a thing? Like instead of a life coach, I was a project coach haha! Our Thanksgiving could not have gone better, thank you! I am so thankful that I have this blog to help encourage you, even if I can’t be there in person! Enjoy your weekend! XOXO
Sue Leake says
Excited to see the results!! You always hit it out of the park! Enjoy your holiday weekend.
Christy says
Aww thank you, Sue! I am excited too! Enjoy your weekend also! XOXO
Nanette says
Very excited to follow you updating your bedroom! Haha, I thought you had named your table when you said “His name is Brian, by the way.”
Christy says
Oh haha!! That is SO funny!! XOXO
Lizzy says
I’m looking forward to seeing the “after.” Those pieces will be beautiful in a lighter color. The side table you picked up at an estate sale is gorgeous. You are right to leave it be. I’m sure you will find the right light for the ceiling. I could see a big beautiful chandelier in there.
Christy says
It is looking so much better, Lizzy! Yeah I just couldn’t paint that table. I ended up swapping it out for a different one that was already painted. Still looking at light fixtures! XOXO
Robyn Wright says
How are you not needing some kind of floor covering in case of spills?! That’s what makes you a “professional”, eh? LOL! I LOVE the lamp shades on the lamps next to your bed. very pretty!
Christy says
Thank you, Robyn! I love the style of those shades as well! And ha ha… When I paint, I am usually in the garage and I use pieces of scrap wood to lift my furniture up off the ground so I can paint the legs properly and that’s it. So I did the same thing in my bedroom, not even thinking I should protect my carpet LOL! XOXO
