What Today is and my Next DIY Adventure

Welcome my sweet Friends! Do you know what today is? It’s my birthday yippee! Do you know what month usually boasts the most births in the United States? No not September, it’s August, but pretty close! In my family, September is by far the busiest month for birthdays with me, my son, my sister, my dad, My grandfather (resting in peace now), my niece, and two nephews.

Anyway I wanted to put something fun together for my birthday, but I am way more excited about my next DIY adventure, so since it’s my birthday, can I just share that instead?

See this stack of fabric:

That’s four bolts of white bull denim washed and ready to go…for this…

The big brown beast!

I used to have white carpet and a couple of pairs of small sticky fingers roaming around, so the brown made sense. Now that I have my new hardwood floors (see them here), and the small sticky fingers are a bit bigger and much less sticky, I am ready to go lighter and tackle slipcovers for this big thang!

Although people say that a white slip-covered sofa is perfect when you have kids because you can wash the slip covers. There’s no way they’re easier than no maintenance because your sofa is the color of dirt.

So that’s how I’ll be spending my birthday and the next several days.

UPDATE: My slipcovers are done! See the big reveal here now!

If you missed my last birthday, you might enjoy this post I shared last year, Guess who’s turning…how old??, which is a fun look at 43 random facts about yours truly. 🙂

Hope you have a great day!

I’ll be back Thursday sharing what I made with these:

UPDATE: See what I made out of these treasures here now!

See you then!

Happy, Happy Birthday!! Like you, we have loads of family birthdays in September…7 in fact! I applaud you on making covers for your (large!!) sofa…I hope you do a step by step. I need to do them for two chairs and am truly scared to try…BTW…put it off until tomorrow and enjoy the rest of the day!!

    • Thanks, Diane! I tried to find a step by step for a sectional slip cover and there isn’t much out there, so I just might have to share one. We’ll see how it goes. And I did take the day off LOL! 🙂

  8. Christy, I can’t wait to see the couch! Happy Birthday girl! My birthday was Sunday- 37. My son’s is the 23rd! I knew I liked you more for just your incredible DIYs ;). I really can’t get over your age! You don’t look a day over 25! What’s your secret? Have a great birthday. Oh and I’m curious what you’re going to do with the random wood.

    • Thanks, Heather! Isn’t it funny how you sync with people and then realize later that they are Virgos too…then you think, oh that’s why I like them so much! That happens all the time lol. Thanks for being so sweet about my age…I am definitely feeling it these days! 😉

  9. Happy birthday dear friend!! I can’t wait to see that slipcover- you are one brave woman!!

Happy happy B-Day Christy! May you have loads of health and happiness DIY’ing in the year ahead! You have guts tackling that huge couch, but I’ve seen you modifying it before with your no-fear attitude, so I’m sure it will treat you nicely again 😉 Looking forward to Thursday’s post!

Well happy birthday…..I had one yesterday…turned 65…..how did I get sooo old??? Good luck on the slipcovers! Enjoy your day!!!

  13. Firstly a very Happy Birthday to you…I just celebrated my 69th in August. Secondly, YOU ARE VERY BRAVE….I have almost the exact same sofa in a toast colored chenille and would love to make some but I don’t think I’ll have the nerve to start it….how many yards do you need for your sofa? I have been collecting all sorts of fabric, mostly shabby chic with roses, stripes etc all in the same color scheme for years and was going to use this to make a slip cover but the “chaise” part of the sofa really appears insurmountable…

    • Thank you, Suzanne! I have been putting this project off for far too long because it is very daunting. We’ll see how it goes though. I bet a slipcover made from the beautiful pieces you’ve collected would be lovely! I have purchased 32 yards, but I don’t think I’ll need that much. I’ll post those details if this works out. 🙂

  14. Happy Birthday Christy. Can’t wait to see the slip covers and what you made out of the wood pieces.

  15. Happy birthday!!! Get that beast!! Xo

  16. Here’s wishing you the happiest of birthdays and all the stamina you’ll need to complete the slip cover!! Best to you!!

  17. Happy Birthday Christie, hope you have a lovely day and get spoiled rotten!

  18. Happy, happy birthday!! Here’s to many, many more happy and healthy ones. I am so looking forward to your major project. After those floors — you can do anything!! Enjoy your day. Hugs — Denise

  19. Happiest Birthday Christy!!!! Wow, what a project!! Rock on!!! My first thought was about the image of washing an entire bolt of denim…….. then ironing it. lol I know you are going to do a stellar job of the covers and the brown beast will be a white knight. 🙂 Have a wonderful birthday every day!

    • Thank you, Christina! I am really excited about this project! I pulled the fabric out of the dryer and immediately rewrapped it onto the bolt, smoothing it as I went. Hoping that saved me from having to iron it. We shall see! XOXO

I bet you asked for a new saw or a drill for your birthday or maybe a trip…..to Goodwill!!!!
    Have a good one!!!!

    • No worries, Sue! My post was schedule to go out like usual, but I didn’t realize it never sent till later in the day, so it was sent late. I appreciate the sweet birthday wishes just the same though! 🙂 XOXO
