Hello my dear sweet Friends! I am sharing my Christmas Home Tour today, but first I just want to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you for spending precious moments of your day here with me. I truly appreciate you!
As I was looking through my Christmas décor boxes, and looking at the same things I had last year, I thought my tour wouldn’t look much different this year. However I nearly forgot that we have hardwood floors as opposed to that old carpet this year, and my new white slip cover for my sectional is a much better backdrop for Holiday colors than my very brown sectional!
I already shared my dining room hutch which got a whole new look this year thanks to a little help from At Home. But the rest of my décor was all on me so although I made a few changes, I didn’t spend very much to do it.
Let’s start at the beginning…
Come on in…
If you visited before, you may remember that my front door opens right up to my staircase.
That tree was a lucky thrift store find. It was almost brand new and still in the Target box for $6! I found it at the end of the Summer, and figured surely I could use it somewhere.
If you look to the left, you’ll see my entry table, but I’m saving that for Thursday since it’s part of my One Space Three Ways decorating challenge. 🙂
Let’s keep going though, and you’ll see my tree in the left corner of my living room…
Now we don’t get too fancy around here with our tree, but it’s packed FULL of memories. I have ornaments that my kids made, ornaments that were on my childhood tree, ornaments I made as a child, and ornaments from just about every place we’ve visited. I also have several from my Sister and her daughters. They have made us an ornament every year since the girls were barely able to help, and the oldest in in her twenties now!
The right corner of my living room is where the fireplace is, and where my DIY Sweater Stockings made from Goodwill donation bag sweaters are hung with care…
I love how the red in the pillows really pops against the white. That’s why I decided to play up the red accent color more this year. The striped pillows are new from Homegoods, and the solid velvet ones came from Walmart.
I decided to beef up my garland a bit this year also by buying a couple of swags from Michaels and taking them apart to put through my garland.
Can you spy one of the little Music Sheet Birds my Secret Santa, Angie from Postcards from the Ridge, sent me last year? I still love them!
I also finally replaced my desert dish candle holders for these pretty mercury glass ones:
The only place I left the house to get Black Friday deals from was Michaels. They had great deals plus an additional 30% off I think, so many things made it into my cart which kinda looked like this:
Don’t worry…half of that didn’t make to the check out. The candlesticks are buried under all that and ended up being less than $30 for all four. I figure I can use them all year, so that makes them an even better deal!
Just to the left of my fireplace is this little vignette…
This table and mirror usually live in the corner where the tree has taken up residence.
I shared this little clock turned shadow box last week:
Cute gift idea, huh? Fill it with just about anything you can dream up.
This cozy handmade throw was a thrift store find in the Spring. I just love it…
And to the right of the fireplace…
This fella who was on my coffee table last year is hanging out on my sewing machine cabinet this year:
My cheapo gold shatterproof ornaments made a comeback this year as well as you can see. I used them in a few places. They are a great inexpensive way to decorate for the Holidays.
And this cutie I picked up from At Home made center stage on the coffee table this year…it’s the sweater. Seriously cute.
A sweet reader emailed me recently about my strategy for keeping my home clean with so many DIY projects going on.
I clean my house from top to bottom every Monday. By Friday it is usually a mess, but I don’t stress over it because we LIVE in our house, and deep down inside I know that come Monday, for one whole day at least, it will be clean again.
But I should have told her that it’s not usually me and my DIY that is the problem…I have two boys.
I can’t be straightening those pillows every hour, but that’s real life, y’all. 🙂
This is the cozy spot between my living room and my kitchen (I think you already know what happens to that pillow and throw)…
I love how my bold DIY mirror looks with the pop of red.
And here we are in the kitchen! (This got a bright new makeover in 2014, you can see that here.)
I found those beautiful red velvet poinsettias that I used to dress up my boxwood wreaths at Walmart. They are really pretty in person. Have you seen what Walmart is carrying in their Holiday décor section lately? I was pretty impressed.
This little tree on my island was so sad. He has been hanging out in my son’s room decked out in blue for the last few years, but I needed a little tree for this spot, so I swiped him for here and now he’s cute again…
(My son got upgraded to the old stair landing tree since I found my $6 Target steal 🙂 )
And to the right of my kitchen is my dining room…
I shared my hutch already, but I did add a couple of mercury glass candy dishes to the bottom of each side.
I felt like it needed a little something else there. I won’t share all of my photos from my Christmas Hutch again except this one…isn’t this wreath so pretty?
Ok and this one…
Just because it’s pretty. 🙂
I used the same DIY Dining Table Centerpiece as last year, just swapped out some of the gold ornaments for the pretty pale blue.
I like that this is nice and low so it doesn’t interfere with Christmas dinner conversation.
I kept this corner in my dining room simple with this pretty arrangement I picked up at a craft market on Thanksgiving weekend.
This was a steal at $30! I don’t think those sweet ladies made much money on this!
We have worked our way back to the front door. If you look up you’ll see my stairs are dressed for the occasion as well.
I went back looking for more of those pretty poinsettias for my stairs but they were sold out, so I found pretty velvet poinsettia stems at Michaels and just cut the stems off. They worked just fine.
That concludes my Christmas Home Tour. I am so delighted you chose to stop by for a visit!
And don’t stress about keeping the pillows perfect this Holiday season, enjoy it. 🙂

Paula@SweetPea says
Your home looks so pretty. I know in person it has to look like a Christmas wonderland. Your white cabinets, white sofa and hardwood floors do make your home look different from last year even if you use some of the same decor. I guess I’m boring, I like the tradition of using my Christmas things year after year but I do mix it up by finding new display areas (if I can.) If I visited your home, I’d spend a long time looking at your ornaments. I love handmade ornaments and if I see them on a tree, I can’t help but to admire them.
Christy K. James says
Aww thank you, Paula your comments are always so thoughtful. I did try to reuse most of what I already had, but I enjoy changing it up a bit from year to year. I’m looking forward to checking out your Holdiay home. I love how you decorate with cherished family treasures! XO
Patty says

Shanna Gilbert says
You’re home looks beautiful Christy! I love how your red pillows pop against your new slipcovers! The clock makeover is so cute! I actually bought a clock at a yard sale this summer to do the same thing. At least I think it used to be a clock, the guts are missing and it’s hard to tell. I love how certain ornaments bring back memories and it looks like your sweet tree is full of them!
Christy K. James says
Thank you thank you, Shanna! I really enjoyed decorating this year, and my favorite is always going through my ornaments remembering special moments of years past. 🙂
Addie says

Becky says
Absolutely gorgeous!!! I’m feeling kind of envious of you… but I’m remembering that this is an annual event, and I’ll have other years to do more decorating when I DON’T have a 2 week old baby… and 8 other kids to work around. : ) We have some nice decorating up anyway, mostly by way of my 14 year old who has some skills, hooray! I’ll come back to this post in the future for ideas. You hit the nail on the head here – enough without being too much! I love it!
Christy K. James says
Thank you, Becky and oh my goodness do I ever feel envious of you! My baby days are long gone and what I wouldn’t give to snuggle a 2 week old baby right now, although I’d like to keep my good night’s sleep ha ha! Enjoy these sweet days. Honestly, if I weren’t sharing my home with the world, I probably wouldn’t decorate half as much! Thank you for always leaving the nicest comments! Hope you and all of yours have a very Merry Christmas! XO
