Hello sweet Friends! Up for a sweet (and easy!) DIY Easter sign? I created this about two years ago out of a few fence pickets. Today is our last installment of Trash to Treasure Tuesday {Best of the Archives}, and I thought this would be fun to reshare!
If you’re just joining us, instead of sharing a brand new trash to treasure project just one Tuesday this month, we decided to dig through our archives and reshare some old favorites every Tuesday this month! So far I’ve shared my Farmhouse Hutch, a gorgeous set of French Provincial Chairs, and sweet little Rosette Stool that was almost a big fail.
Here are my fence pickets before:
I never pass up a good pile of curbside fencing! I find so many uses for that old fence picket stash.
This time, it was a whimsical Easter sign, perfect for Spring! (See how much I love you, Spring? I made a sign for you and everything.)
I thought this would be fun as my last re-share for the month. A fun touch of whimsy to welcome Easter!
And if you happen to have a fence picket stash of your own , this project is free. Those are my favorite!
If not, go a couple of houses down at 3:00am with your hacksaw and get ya some. (Ya’ll know I’m kidding right? Do NOT do that!) You can easily pick up a couple of newer pieces at the home improvement store to make one.
I started with two narrower pieces for the bottom two parts…
I painted them with Country Chic paint in Elegance since I had it on hand at the time and it’s a perfect Springtime color.
Then as I do for all my graphics, I printed the words I chose in the reverse. See more info on this method HERE.
I positioned them and penciled across the back of each letter…
Leaving a transfer of my letters behind:
Then I painted them in with acrylic paint using a script liner brush…
I cut them to size and touched the ends up with paint, followed by a little sanding. I sealed them with a matte spray sealer.
For the very sophisticated bunny head, I drew out a pattern and traced it onto the wood.
I trimmed it (the rain was stopping me from cutting my wood first), then sanded and sealed as well. All three pieces got screwed to a post I saved from an old yard sale sign I used the Summer before. It already had the tip cut in to a point so it was perfect. I just gave it a quick coat of white paint.
I kinda like the signs a bit wonky like this, but you could leave them straight as well…
I was lucky to get a tiny break from the rain that weekend so I could snap these pictures.
I was hoping for a sunshine and flower filled backdrop that day, but no luck.
This is what that area looks like when Spring finally does its thing:

And from the street looking to the house…

But no, and it was fffffreezing that day…even the bunny thought so.
My trash-lovin friends are each sharing a favorite transformation of their own today:

I’ll be back on Thursday sharing what I did with this thrift store find:
Hope you’re having a sunshine kind of day where you are! 🙂

Hi Christy,
I love all the stuff that you do, but in this case I’m particularly interested in the boards you used for your signs. I have a ton of old cedar fence boards that I scored on Freecycle. I tried painting a sign on them, but the rough texture, even after some sanding, did not produce a very good result. Yours look so much better! Do you have any tips for getting clean lines on the boards’ rough, uneven surface? Thanks, Marilyn
Christy K. James says
Thanks, Marilyn! Awesome score! It helps to sand them a bit after painting, but before adding your letters. Hope this helps!

Very cute on its own, but add the scarf and it’s PERFECT! Haha!
