Hello my friends! Today I am sharing a hydrangea wreath that I made for my front door. But didn’t I just make a shell wreath for my door a couple of weeks ago? Yes I did! This is actually my Summer wreath from last year. I shared it as a guest post for Between Naps on the Porch then, but never shared it here. I thought I’d share it in case shells aren’t your thang. 🙂
This wreath was super easy to put together and could easily carry you all the way through until the Fall.
I wanted something with some presence for my entryway last year and the Hydrangeas were perfect!
You can see how my planters that I recently updated looked last year. They actually didn’t look too terrible at the beginning of the Summer, but they had just had it by the time the warm weather rolled around this year.
Remember I painted them to coordinate with my new shell wreath:
So fresh!
Here’s how easily this Hydrangea wreath came together…
First you’ll need a few things:
- Grapevine wreath
- Floral wire
- Wire cutters/Needle nose pliers
- Hot glue gun/ glue sticks
- Burlap ribbon
- Stems as seen below
For my wreath, I knew I wanted Hydrangeas because they remind me of Summer. I chose the others because they remind me of wild flowers. All of my flowers came from Michaels. I used three large hydrangea stems from their Spring collection and two of each of the others from their everyday blooms.
I started by cutting the miniature daisy-like stems apart like so:
Then I added them to the grapevine wreath, using hot glue to secure in place.
I did the same with the smaller hydrangea blooms:
They were added next.
I also cut apart the purple stems.
Then I added those also.
I love seeing a wreath come together, layer after layer.
Finally I cut my large Hydrangeas down and because they were a bit large, I used floral wire to tighten them up a bit underneath like so:
You can see the difference here:
Then I secured them in place. One…
Two…
Three!
To give it a bit of texture, I also added burlap. I cut two pieces that looked like this:
Then I twisted the end, added a little hot glue, and tucked each in place on either side of the hydrangeas.
A piece of wire was added as a hanger and it was ready to go! I used a command hook to hang it on the glass panel:
I made it to match my Petunias and the Geraniums in my window boxes!
I still need to fill my window boxes for this year.
I already had the burlap ribbon and the wreath, which was a 75¢ thrift store find originally adorned with Fall flowers. The flowers were about $30, but still much cheaper than purchasing a ready-made wreath. And I was able to cusotmize it to the colors and style I wanted!

I do love the simplicity of this hydrangea wreath though!
I hope you’re inspired to break out your hot glue gun and get your wreath-makin’ on! Summer’s on its way!

Very pretty! I like the cheater way you added the tails of the ribbon in. I always use the whole thing and then work for awhile trying to figure it all out.

Thanks, Stacey! The cheater way works great. 🙂

That’s beautiful Christy. I love hydrandreas, I have about seven huge bushes in my back yard. I’m always trying to do something with them. I may give the real ones a try. With the sun beating down on my front door they propably won’t last, but I guess that will give me a reason to do something else! ;-).

Thanks, Heather! I love hydrangeas! I wish there was a way to keep them looking as pretty. My dried ones tend to really fade over time. For now I’m just enjoying them in vases! 🙂

Beautiful, Christy! Yesterday as I was working in the yard I was thinking about making a Hydrangea wreath and today you are posting your gorgeous one. I like how you added lavender and daisies to yours.

Thanks, Nancy! I love a pretty floral wreath for Summer. The shells were a fun change, but I’m sure I’ll be back to florals next year! 🙂
