Hello, my little rays of sunshine! Thank you SO much for all the love on the curbside french chair I shared on Tuesday! That little lady was so happy to have a fresh new look, and ya’ll totally made my day! Today, I’m back with a much more simple redo, a plant stand makeover.
Here is how I found this piece at a yard sale last weekend:

Many of the yard sales I stopped by did not have prices on their items. Although I don’t love that, I often get better deals that way, but the lady who was selling this piece gave me a price of $25!
With this yellowing, dated finish, that was too much in my opinion, but she said she paid a lot for it.
She also had a small floral arrangement, so I offered $20 for that and the table, even though I thought the table should have been more like $10.
She paused for a long time, and finally relented, but I don’t think she was happy about it lol. I thought she got a very fair price!
Clean
The first thing I did was give this plant stand a good cleaning with White Lightning using an applicator pad:

Then I swapped out my dirty water for clean water and gave it another wipe down.
Fill Gouges and scratches with Mud
The top had several small imperfections, and I filled those in with Dixie Mud:

It comes in brown, white, and black.
You’ll want to clean your piece before applying Dixie Mud since it is water soluble before it has cured completely.
Sand
Once that dried, I sanded to smooth using 220 grit sandpaper wrapped around an old sanding sponge for easier handling:

Paint
After vacuuming up the sanding dust, it was time for paint!
I gave the bottom three coats of Dixie Belle’s Cotton and the top got two coats of their Farmhouse Green:

Farmhouse Green is one of my absolute favorite summertime colors!
I used it on several cute projects like HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Sand to smooth
I sanded to smooth once everything was dry using 220 grit sandpaper for the base and one of these fine grit sanding sponges for the top since I did not want any distressing there.
Seal
To seal, I used Clear Coat in Satin, applying it with a blue sponge applicator:

Cutting the sides straight makes it easier to handle.
Yard Sale Plant Stand Makeover Reveal
Here is the big reveal of this little plant stand makeover:

The fresh white paint did wonders for that yellowing finish!

And adding this pull added a bit of character to the front…

I love this pull from Hobby Lobby, but I didn’t see any of these in there when I was hunting for fabric for my chair last week. I just had this lone one left in my stash, so this worked out great.

That green is so fresh next to the white!

I love a quick and easy project!

One more done!

If you missed the oak pedestal table, see that HERE.
If you missed the French Chair, you can see that HERE.
I’ll be back on Tuesday with this wall cabinet I also scored at yard sale:

UPDATE: No need to wait! See how pretty this piece turned out HERE now!
Have an amazing weekend!

Oh it is beautiful now! I love the color with the white! That is a nice size, and I love that it has a shelf on the bottom for a smaller plant! It turned out beautiful!!
Christy says
Thank you, Mary! I could see it by the door in a small entry also…lots of possibilities! Have a lovely weekend! XOXO

Christy, this little makeover was just what I needed to see after several gray, rainy days! Bright and sunny. The drawer pull on the front was the perfect touch to make it stand out. When I saw this piece in your “haul reveal” i couldn’t tell if it was a yellow painted piece or just yellowed from wear (doesn’t look that old)…anyhoo, you revived it and it’s a beauty!
Christy says
Oh yay! We are right there with you…so much rain for May, right? I think it was glazed to look that way on purpose as that was very popular at one time, but the fresh and summery feel is so much more happy! Thank you, my friend! XOXO
Geri Davis says
The little plant stand looks so much better! I’m going to have to try that farmhouse green on a project, I just love that color. I would have asked her for less on that little plant stand too, I try to not pay more than $10 for those small pieces also.
Christy says
Thank you, Geri! It is such a happy color! I figured I got so many amazing deals that day, that I would give in this time at that price, but yes, about $10 is what I would normally pay for this piece! XOXO
Kathy W says
Christy – the plant stand is so sweet now. I agree. The contrast of the white and green is perfect and the addition of the handle gives it that little extra touch of sweetness. Another thing I love about it is it’s small. It would be a cheerful addition to any room!! Because of its size, it will fit anywhere. It’s going to sell lickety split in your booth. Unless…someone wants to keep it ???? Have a great weekend!!!

Christy says
Thank you, Kathy! I always sell pieces I paint in this pretty color, so I don’t expect it to last long either. Ha ha you know I want to keep all the things!! XOXO
Terri DeWerff says
Love seeing your projects- first thing I look at on Tues/Thurs!
Christy says
Aww that means so much to me, Terri, thank you!! I appreciate you following along with me! XOXO
Cecilia says
What? No transfer? Lol. Seriously though, it looks so much better. I love that green and the fresh white is so much better than the yellow (I remember a lot of furniture was painted that color. Why? Ha) The pull is the perfect finishing touch, too.

Christy says
You know me so well ha ha! I did decide to keep it simple this time. Yep, this glazed finish was very popular for a long time! We probably all had it lol. Thank you, my friend! XOXO

good morning Christy, I have a question. I noticed you choose DB satin topcoat more than gator hide. Obviously you’re the expert, but if someone were to use this table for plants, would satin protect it enough? Super cute project!
Christy says
Well now I just knew someone was going to ask that lol! Gator Hide is water repellent, so if you overwater your plants regularly, that would be the best choice, but Clear Coat is till water resistant, so as long as you wipe up any spills shortly after, it will be just fine. Great question and thank you! XOXO
Jeanne says
She definitely got a deal. That was overpriced! However, you made it look like it’s worth more now. Nice job. The chair from last week was a plus. I love following you.
Christy says
Yes, I agree! And you are the sweetest, thank you so much, Jeanne! I love having you following along with me! XOXO
Rhonda says
Amazing transformation! Love the cheerful green.
Wondering if you have ever thought of redoing a flat wear box with a man in mind? Father’s Day is coming.
Christy says
Thank you, Rhonda! That is not a bad idea! I’ll admit I don’t consider the men very often lol! XOXO
Amanda says
Love it! So fresh looking. <3
Christy says
Thank you, Amanda! Ready for summer! XOXO
Fran says
Sweet table. I have one that I will use to put my Mothers Day colanchoe plant in a new home.
Christy says
Thank you, Fran! I had to look that plant up. They are quite beautiful and look easy to care for! XOXO
Marcie Lovett says
A few years ago I worked long and hard on an antique plant stand to create a finish similar to your before photo, Christy ???? It didn’t last long before I painted over it, coincidentally, in green! Your green and white combination is so fresh, just right for bringing some cheer to an entry or sunroom or for adding a touch of color to a neutral room.
Christy says
That’s so funny! That glazed look was quite popular for a long time, but yes, now it is fresh and ready for the warm months ahead. Funny that you painted yours green too. 🙂 XOXO
Barb says
I really enjoy seeing what you do to all your projects but today’s refinishing of the green and white plant stand is outstanding! I hadn’t decided on the color to use on my next project but now I’m going for the green and white. Thanks for sharing all your work.
Christy says
Oh I’m so glad this one inspired you for your next project! This color combo is so fresh and inviting. Thank you so much, Barb! XOXO
Michele M. says
That spring green is such a fun bright happy color! I love those little tables – there’s always a perfect spot for them somewhere. I sure can see this in a covered screened porch or 3 season room. Very cute.
Christy says
It really is such a happy color! And you are so right, this table can be popped in a corner just about anywhere…a sunroom would be ideal! Thank you, my friend! XOXO
Lizzy says
What a perfect little table now! So pretty.
Christy says
Thank you, Lizzy! XOXO
Linda says
Love your color choice paired with the white. Cheerful, just lovely, such a versatile piece. Good you could haggle somewhat. Ha, if she saw it now!! I, too, look forward to your weekly updates. They make me ???? .
Christy says
Aww I love that so much, Linda, thank you! Yes, if she could see it now, she might want it back ha ha! XOXO
p says

I reallly like that drawer pull. It gives it some weight and detail.
Think I need that green…. for hmmm – Something happy.

She went from plain to beautiful. Love the color choice with the white. Great job as always.
Christy says
Yes! Thanks so much Debra! XOXO
Robin says
It is a fresh take for the table. I totally understand the seller’s reluctance. It’s hard to take a reduced price when the original purchase price was high. She probably had it priced @ 75%-80% from what she paid.
Christy says
I understand also. She only had a few items in her driveway, so it was likely she didn’t have much experience with yard sales as well. That’s why I didn’t lowball her. Win win though…she undloaded it and made a little money back, and I got a super cute piece for my booth! XOXO
