Welcome back, beautiful friends! If you missed my brand new HUGE haul I shared on Tuesday, you can see that HERE. The very first piece I chose to redo is this oak pedestal table I found at the thrift store for only $10.99:

That was too good to pass up, but it was missing part of the pull on the front and the top was looking pretty rough:

I’ve included a few affiliate links so you can find the products I love.
Sand
I started by sanding the top to smooth out all the scratches using my cordless Ryobi cat sander and 220 grit sandpaper:

Clean
After attending to those imperfections, I was able to move on to getting this piece cleaned!
For that I used my go-to cleaner for furniture pieces, White Lightning. I mixed one TBSP into a half gallon of warm water and gave it a good once over…

White Lightning is a degreaser and a deglosser and gloves are recommended. Be sure to swap your dirty water for clean water and give it another wipe down to remove any residue.
Paint
Then I was able to go straight to painting since I chose Caviar by Dixie Belle!

Caviar is a perfect, true black and makes anything sleek and elegant! I gave it two coats using my favorite Mini Angle brush.
Sand
Once it was dry, I sanded to smooth and distress a bit using 220 grit sandpaper:

Your dark painted pieces will look terrible when you do this, but I promise sealing them will make them beautiful again.
I just like to sand to give them the smoothest finish possible when using chalk mineral paint.
Seal
I cleaned away any dust and planned to seal with Clear Coat in Satin, but for darker pieces, I like to add just a drop of paint into it:

This gives a much nicer finish on darker pieces and greatly reduces the “ghosting” effect you get when running your finger across the surface of a dark painted piece.
I applied it with the blue sponge applicator which makes it so easy!

Especially on those curves!
Oak Pedestal Table Makeover Reveal
This was a super simple makeover that made a BIG impact!

I love the sophistication of this piece in sleek black!

So elegant!

The sanding reveals the wood beneath which I just love with black painted pieces, and how about those feet…

The satin finish of the Clear Coat Sealer is the perfect amount of sheen…

The Drawer
How pretty is that detail on the drawer?

For that, I used this Luxe Ornamenta Decor Poly:

These pieces are fantastic and they are totally flexible, perfect for these curvy pieces:

And, they’re super easy to cut to fit your needs. I cut this one down a bit to use as a back plate for this glass knob:

Then, I painted it the same way as the table, with Caviar by Dixie Belle:

I also sealed it with Clear Coat in Satin.
To adhere it to the drawer front, I used Quick & Thick Glue from Titebond:

It adds such a pretty detail!

See all the Decor Poly appliques I carry in my Etsy shop HERE.
The glass knob came from Amazon HERE.
And how about the inside?

Can’t go wrong with gingham!
I used paper to make a pattern on this curved area…

And then I cut my fabric to fit, adhering it with matte Mod Podge:

Love me some black and white gingham check!

And that is my very first piece completed from this humongous new haul!

This will pair nicely with this gorgeous Louis Chair that is still in my booth!
One down, only 56 to go ha ha!

So many of you were interested in seeing this huge french chair redone, so that is next:

Christy – what a huge improvement!! I thought there is no way that chunky oak table can become elegant. But, you did it!!! I don’t know why I was skeptical. I had to remind myself, you’re the Super-cal Gal. ???? Happy Mother’s Day to you!! I hope your “boys” spoil you on Sunday.

Christy, well, that was quick! Do you ever sleep? That table is stunning. I cant tell if it’s “end/side table” height but how cute in a cozy nook – of course, the gingham drawer liner adds that pop of fun! I noticed how many “fans” also liked that chair and I’m so excited it’s up next – woohoo!
Happy Mother’s Day to you, too! Hope you are treated royally.

Ha ha this was a quick one! I usually get my pieces done before Monday, so I can photograph on Mondays, but I mulched on Saturday after yard saling and it rained all day Sunday, so I couldn’t take my photos of my new haul until Monday. So,Tuesday was a work day! This is end table height and would be absolutely perfect in a cozy nook. Thank you, my friend! I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well! XOXO
