Happy Thursday!! It’s almost the weekend woohoo! Sweet friends, I’m back today with a couple of pieces from my new haul that I made over using glaze.
I usually sand a bit here and there to highlight the pretty details you’ll see on today’s pieces, but glaze is a another great way to highlight those details when you don’t want a distressed look.
I had a few requests to see what I would do with this set I found at the thrift store for $8:
At first, I thought it was a set of candle holders. I didn’t even notice that one of these pieces was a vase until I got home.
Also, the candleholder was damaged on the top:
Wood filler wouldn’t be an appropriate fix for this material, but I had another idea!
I pulled out my Amazing Casting Resin that I use in my decor moulds:
This resin is SO easy to use! You just mix equal parts of part A and part B together, pour, and let them set.
I mixed a small amount and poured it right into the top of the candle holder:
And after about 15 minutes, my candle holder was good as new!
I carry this product in my shop HERE AND I’ve added TEN Redesign with Prima Moulds as well! See them all HERE.
I was looking into adding either the Wood-u-bend appliques or these moulds to my shop and decided that the moulds are a better value since you can use them again and again.
Clean
Next, I gave them both a good cleaning with White Lightning before painting them in two coats of Manatee Gray.
Using Glaze
Then, it was time for the glaze! I carry eight colors of glaze in my Etsy shop:
Of course, of all the colors of glaze I carry, you know I chose the Whitewash lol.
Dixie Belle has recently reformulated their glazes and you can find them HERE. I liked the old version, and that is what I used on today’s makeover, but the new version is supposed to be even better. (I have not compared the two.) Find what’s left of the older version in the clearance section of my shop HERE.
I brushed the glaze on all over using my French tip brush to get it into all the details:
Then, I wiped it away with a clean, soft cloth:
That is it! Glaze acts as a sealer, so there is no need to seal after. (You’ll want to work in sections if you are working on a larger piece.)
Here is the plain painted version next to the glazed version:
The glaze highlights all those pretty details.
Once it was dry, I went over the raised areas with Silver Gilding Wax to add a little shine:
I chose gray to coordinate with the dated sofa table I redid recently, so I can display them together in my booth!
The After
The gray paint and glaze gives them a much softer look than the original black.
Here you can see the shimmer of the gilding wax…
Find the transfer I used to make that artwork HERE.
Even though they turned out not to be a set of two candleholders, I think they’re still pretty together…as long as you don’t set your flowers on fire!
If you want to see what else glaze can do, check out how I transformed this desk for Brennan’s room:

That’s one more done!

Those turned out great. When I get finally settled here and ready to redo some pieces I am going to order the molds. It will be fun to see the horse, too. Diana

Oh yeah, that’s a much softer look. I bet they look pretty with the sofa table.
Can’t wait to see the horse…I thought it was a rocking horse but nope. So curious to what you will do to it.
